My Meadow, Mae and Ten Ping are sharing the limelight today…

Congratulations to Ingrid, who had a birthday yesterday… I saw it on Facebook, but let’s all wish her a happy birthday day here too!

Thank you again, Sissy, for those sweet pictures of your dolls dressed in those sailor outfits. I know everyone really enjoyed them.

I have to show you a picture Linda sent. It was taken back in 1972 when her daughter and son were 1 and 2.
She said it was kind of blurry, but you can still see how cute the sailor outfits she made looked on her kids, Jennifer and Brian. Okay, kids, here’s your 15 minutes of worldwide fame! (Oh, and her hubby gets his fame time too!)

Since I was working on those green shoes for Ten Ping, I took a little time today and tried to figure out what I might put with them. I decided on these 2 pieces of Windham fabrics. They are an olive green color like the boots and match nicely. I’m not exactly sure what I’m making but these are the fabrics.

I did get some cream thigh highs made and the boots look really cute with them.

Rosemary asked if the boots were a suede leather… I called it a flocked, because I wasn’t sure if it was suede, but it might be. I noticed something about it though. Since the design in the leather was pretty big, the flat parts, which are super dark green, look like a bit of glue got on the boot and turned it black. One of the areas is right in the front… and I don’t like that… but it does look worse in the picture than it does in person. Also remember these boots are only about 1″ long, so my pictures show every piece of lint and fuzz and thread.

I used that satin varnish on the soles and love how they look. I think that’s what I’ve been missing on “loving” my boots/shoes!

Next I spent a little time on Mae’s orange shoes. I wanted the heels to cup in “the way her heel does” and it was a challenge…

I also found a fabric that I will probably use for her… it goes wonderfully with her orange shoes and is very Fallish!

I also had this piece of lace that I might put with it… but I’m not positive. It might be too dressy for the calico looking fabric.

So that’s what I was doing today… not much in the big scope of things, but still I moved forward a little bit.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and enjoys the weather… and I hope none of my readers were in the path of the hurricane…

We did hear from my hubby’s sister… She was in a condo in St. Petersburg and was really pounded by the very strong winds… but today she was back home and even had power. She was very thankful.

See everyone Monday,
Blessings, Jeanne

Linda, your children are adorable in their little sailor outfits! I particularly like Jennifer’s red shoes!

Those fabrics for TenPing are perfect together, and will go nicely with those olive boots.

Jeanne, you are right; that lace is wrong for the fabric. It’a beautiful piece, but it’s too formal, too large, and too Pink! At least on my monitor, it looks sort of apricot color, definitely a lot of pink undertones. It probably wouldn’t be so noticeable if you didn’t have the orange shoes with it. If the shoes were black or brown, you could perhaps use the lace; otherwise, probably not.

I’m happy to say my Missouri Star Quilt Co. Countdown to Christmas box came today! I’ve gone thru everything to make sure all the pieces are there; now to wait until Dec. 1st, when I can open the first one. Can’t wait!

That is a lovely dress pattern. I hadn’t been sewing much for 18″ dolls but now that I have my new AG 18″ doll I might go ahead and get that pattern. She needs a Christmas/holiday dress and this one is lovely. Thanks for the “heads up” Charlotte. I haven’t gotten to my email yet today.

Oh my goodness, Jeanne! I thought you would just send the picture to Sissy of my children and husband!! My apologies to everyone for that blurry picture!

I love the green fabrics you showed with those darling green shoes! Green is my favorite color, and I love the way both of the fabrics look for fall. i absolutely love houndstooth check anything! I remember making a red and tan houndstooth check top for myself back in the day with gold buttons, and wore that to death!

Those little feet are Mae are so cute, curled up, but what kind of shoes does she come with originally? I wonder what the maker was thinking when they made those feet!

Now the flowered fabric you showed with her is darling, but why the lace? I don’t think it would work for such a young child, and it takes away the charm of the flowered fabric. I would prefer a gingham for the second piece.

My apologies, Ingrid for not saying β€œHappy Birthday” to you! May you have a good day! Hoping your hubby has a good outcome in his operation too!

    2. The photo is precious. Those outfits are adorable.
My mom, the amazing lady that was born with only a left hand, sewed many clothes for us and I do remember a sailor outfit that my brother had. I think my mom made a variation with light blue corduroy and even a hat!!!

Linda, you are quite the seamstress to have made those darling outfits! What a treasure the picture is! Jennifer looks like Shirley Temple! I’ll send along a screenshot I took of the picture with an iPhone which improved the resolution of the picture somewhat. Interesting.

The boots are so cute, but I think maybe a less shiny matte finish would be better for finishing the soles. Can’t believe you have to patience to make something soooo tiny. Congratulations! And the ones for Mae are just beyond! Did a new Mae doll have shoes on at all? Guess I could look it up.

  4. Good morning every one and Jeanne and Ten Ping and Mae.
You are correct, Jeanne, I think flocked is a better term. I know all of us at some point wore suede shoes and they were fully suede and there were no flat pieces. I love that leather Jeanne, so special and fortunate to get to work with that.
The shoes are perfect. Mae’s feet are so stinking cute. Am I the only one? good grief. I wonder over the next 5 months (honestly it might be longer before we move, they have not even started our “clump of houses” yet) if I clear out all of my works in progress, quilts… oh, so many, I might start a few dresses for my 4 AG dolls. My daughter wants me to hang on to them instead of give them to her daughters (let them have their own) and I think she knows I still love these dolls. All four of them are the original AG dolls from the 80’s
Anyway, where am I going with this? I hope everyone has a very happy lovely week-end. we are getting some sweater weather here in Northern Virginia.
My goal today is to make an appointment with Virginia Heart and talk about pills.
Grieving, anxiety worry? I feel shaky. BP is not horrible. My lovely NP-C Cindy started me on two pills to try. “baby doses” and wooo now my BP is really low. Our bodies making changes as we get older. So I am gonna set up some consult with the handsome Dr Pauley. Everyone of you have a joy filled week-end. I am hoping those suffering greatly from the storms (and storms of life) will find contentment.
Oh, one last thing, I love the fabric choices, Jeanne., even a touch of that lace would be fun. Take good care of yourselves.

I would not normally comment on something medical, however, I had exactly the problem with blood pressure being too low when I was first started on a medication for a heart condition. I had never had high blood pressure but was started on three, count them, 3, all of which lowered blood pressure. My heart was pounding out of my chest and I could barely move. I immediately changed cardiologists who changed it to only two but even that was too much. I take one a day and have survived for 17 years on the lowest dose of Enalapril. Always look up your medications on the internet and/or read the sheet of instructions that comes with it to learn what its effects are. Please return to your doctor or see someone else. Hope this helps and am counting on Jeanne to delete it if it’s inappropriate.

First thing I thought when I saw the fabric for Ten Ping, was how pretty. I vision a cute pair of nickers, bloomers, or whatever you want to call them that hit just at the knee for the hounds tooth fabric. Then, a jacket from the flowered either button up the front or a zipper. And worn with tights or leggings. Cute with the boots. πŸ™‚
For Mae, the fabric appears to go nicely with the shoes, but maybe something other than a dress. Maybe a flowered jacket and a pair of shorts? or something different than a dress for a change. Something that a little girl might wear for active play. πŸ™‚
I’m so happy to see the pic of Linda’s kids and her husband. Those outfits are adorable. Well, the ones on the kids anyway. πŸ™‚ Other person still has his sailor outfit from Vietnam. Does not fit any more. πŸ™‚
Foggy this morning with maybe sprinkles tomorrow. Guess I won’t have to water. Yay. Have a good weekend everyone.

Hi, Joy. I was checking out costume pattern ideas, although I probably won’t get around to making any, and I found something that might work for what you wanted. You do clever things and it might be a jumping off point for you. It’s on Pixie Faire. It’s a Liberty Jane pattern for 13-14.5″ dolls. There are I think four different ideas but the basic pieces and ideas might trigger a thought. One is called Little Alien and I envision a lot of possibilities with that one. Other than that I haven’t found much other than witch costumes.

Dear Jeanne, the outfits to come are lovely. My goodness, you make the best shoes ever!

I want to let you and the Sofa Sisters know that my friend Martha at Antique Lilac has made her wonderful calendars again. They make the perfect gift for dolly and art loving friends. Here’s a link to her website: https://www.antiquelilac.com/blog/calendars-are-here

Wishing everyone a nice October weekend.

      1. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Linda, I am happy that you like Martha’s website. I think of her stories as bedtime tales for doll lovers! You can click on past stories and follow them from beginning to end.

Dorothy, I’ve checked out her website and she does amazing things. I was thinking of ordering a calendar. Thanks for the October weekend wish. While the humidity is low (around 33%) and the temps are not too bad it still does not feel like fall but I can dream.

      1. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Barbara, I have gotten her calendars for gifts previously. I have also purchased several of her picture books, which are collections of her stories. She has won awards for her photography.

    2. Hi Dorothy, what a fascinating website. Thank you for sharing it. I clicked on a couple other random post and her photos are wonderful.

      1. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Laura, I am glad you like Martha’s work. She creates the most amazing stories. I especially like the Behind The Scenes photos where she shows us how she works her magic.

Wow, we have a lot to consider today. I love all the fabrics. I’m trying to discipline myself to use more solid color fabrics, but I still keep going to patterned fabrics, usually floral. So I love the floral fabrics you’ve chosen. And they all seem to go well with the footwear. I like the tiny houndstooth fabric but can’t really see that in a dress. Joy’s idea made me think of some of the Magalie Dawson patterns. She does a lot of “knee pants” and jackets. Great for the houndstooth.

I got the notice yesterday (actually from three different places) that the new L’il Dreamer is out. Her name is Lynzi. She will be coming in November. There are two other L’il Dreamers I don’t have (one is a witch and the other I can’t remember), but I prefer to buy the ones that are not “specific” in nature. Lynzi’s adorable outfit is once again designed by Magalie. Lynzi is limited to I think 200. Already put my order in.

Happy birthday to Ingrid a day late. But it’s actually better than I sometimes do. Hope you had a great one!

  8. I hope you had a wonderful birthday, Ingrid. πŸ₯°πŸŽ‚πŸ¨πŸ°πŸ¬πŸ’πŸˆβ€β¬›πŸ•πŸ„ So sorry I somehow missed that in yesterday’s post.
What a sweet photo, Linda. I love Jennifer’s red mary janes as well. I often paired red MJs with any of my daughter’s dresses that they didn’t clash with. Anything in blue, white or yellow was fair game. I have quite a few red doll shoes as well.
Well, Jeanne, Ten Ping and Mae are certainly the spoiled ones in your dolly cabinet. They keep popping out for a new outfit over and over.
I loved that Pixie Faire pattern because of the sheer sleeves. I always grab the Freebies before I do one other thing on Fridays once I turn my computer on.

  9. Sissy Lingle on the GA coast

Jeanne, I love the shoes and boots and the fabric to go with. I can’t wait to see the finish, but hope you are taking it easy on your leg!
I will send my last, for awhile, outfit to share.
    hugs,
    Sissy
