Well, sort of! I’ll explain in a minute, but first wanted to thank everyone for their sweet comments on the hayride. We have a goal in mind for the students who are here studying. We want to be a “Home away from home” for them and we’ve discovered the best way is with food and fellowship! They LOVE having American Friends and we just love them right back. It’s that simple!
Okay, so how do golf and sewing go together? Well first, let me show you some pictures… of my thread! I have lots of buttons and lots of thread, but I use them both on a regular basis. However, my thread was taking over my sewing room… it was everywhere…
…and it was driving me crazy. I wanted some kind of order to it… I already had made a thread holder (you can see that post HERE) and it’s behind the door as you come into my sewing room, but I needed a few more “shelves” to put what I had in bags and sitting on things.
Enter the old Thrift Shop here in town. I was down in the basement sometime last week and saw this…
In case you don’t know, it’s a golf ball display shelf. There are little grooved out spots for your golf balls to sit so everyone can see how many you have! :o) Well, I saw it as the perfect addition to my thread shelves and thought about 2 seconds before picking it up and buying it. I took it home and asked my hubby if he had any glossy or satin white spray paint and he did! So, he set up a couple of saw horses for me and this happened…
The green fabric used for the background didn’t quite turn completely solid white, but I knew my thread would fill in most of the background so I wasn’t worried about it.
My hubby helped me put it up this evening. It took longer for him to find some screws than it did to put it up…
I just added it to the bottom of the thread rack I made a few years ago. This was MUCH simpler and quicker. I started out sorting my threads by colors… blue, pink, green, etc… but realized I just needed to get the thread on the shelves and worry about color coordinating them later.
It was just perfect and I have a little bit of space for New threads! HA! I will probably find more in my room so it was good to have one row that was almost empty.
I have a piece of clear vinyl covering the top part and will buy another piece to go over my new “bottom section.” It’s wonderful for keeping the dust off the threads. I used push pins at the top and will figure out some way to add the vinyl to this bottom part. After a while it just conforms to the shape of the sides and works really well…
So that’s how golf and sewing go together…
Tomorrow I’ll have something for the dolls… YAY!
See you then,
Blessings, Jeanne
Once again, I forgot to check your blog before I shut down the compd uter last night. When I was still getting your blog twice, one notification would come about 1a.m. (my time), and I never forgot to look at it. But that stopped a few months ago, I think, so I have trouble remembering to check on Sunday nights!
Anyway, I did read your blog from yesterday, and the party sounds wonderful. I remember reading about it in previous years, too. It looked like everyone was having a grand time!
I knew you were going to use that golf ball shelf for threads!! I just knew it! It looks nice, hung directly below the one you made, and what a handy size! It should hold lots of spools for you! (And I think you really do have more thread than I do!! I have quite a lot, but you have me beat, hands down. I keep my thread in clear plastic lidded boxes designed for just that purpose, and I have another one for cones of serger thread. I got them at JoAnn’s years ago.)
That’s fun, Jeanne! The new shelves look kind of like a pretty quilt 😊
(I’m so tired, but I must get up. The kids are on break for All Saints’ day coming up.)
Yippeee.
First I was imagining that you discovered golf. ….. and that well, I do not know anything about golf but there seems to be, maybe I am wrong, a lot of standing around, waiting your turn, and that you managed to create a travel bag for your sewing. hahahaha (I just rolled out of bed)
Well, to see this marvelous golf ball display was kind of a surprise. why would someone want to display golf balls?
“anywho” I am thrilled that you discovered this with your perceptive eye and snapped it up!
Your idea of covering your threads with plastic is also excellent. I keep all of my threads in little drawers or yes, jumbled, I do have one of those racks.
This is a superb project, and you win big and it is only Tuesday!!!!!
Dear Georgina, thank you for helping me practice my high school French. I can understand exactly what you wrote. I would not be able to respond, though, without Google Translate (laugh). You have a nice day as well.
Dear Jeanne, you are truly a Jean-ius (as in genius)! What a great idea.
That was my first thought: Genius! I couldn’t have passed it up either.
Well, at first thought, I envisioned Jeanne, buzzing around the links in a golf cart with her clubs in tow. Wrong. Seeing that golf ball holder brings back memories. We have one. Belonged to other person’s father. It’s sitting in the garage filled with collectible balls. As I remember, he had several, but we ended up with just one. I do remember a bad earthquake where the room where it hung was filled with bouncing golf balls after the quake. Wasn’t long after that it was covered with plastic. Golf balls are kind of a fun collectible if you like golf. Not a golfer here. Courses all over the world have balls available with their printed logo.
Like Charlotte, I keep thread in plastic snap lidded plastic boxes that I store on shelves. They are sorted by color, so it’s easy to pull out the blue box or the red/orange box in a snap. Works for me and no dust. 🙂
Hope the weather people get it right today. I was out scrubbing the deck yesterday afternoon when I felt a drop or two. Wasn’t predicted to rain. Soon the drops increased. I grabbed a few things I didn’t want wet and put them under the overhang. Other person had finally come out to help with the work, but we ended up huddled under cover as it absolutely poured for a few minutes. I was already sort of wet anyway from spray, but we waited for it to let up before heading to the house. I was pretty exhausted by then anyway as I’d worked all morning too. Clear this morning, so we’ll be back at it when it warms up.
Still no blog today, so looks like I’ll have to resubscribe again.
Looks pretty on display and very convenient to choose just what you want. That was a nice fins.
Looks like my comment didn’t go through! How pretty the display is filled up with thread! Leave it to you Jeanne, to make things work in ways that they were never thought of!
I am enjoying seeing the trees turn colors, and leaves flutter down. However, the raking is about to begin in earnest! The blower helps, but today was a bit too windy to do much about the leaves. I tried!
Karen, why are your children out now for All .Saints Day which is Friday? This is only Tuesday!
