Your “Question for the day” is about dolls!

Hi everyone….
It’s question time again and will be for a few days probably. I just might have something to show you in a day or two.

So this is my question for today…

From the exact spot you are reading this blog post, tell me, can you see any dolls in the room you are in? If so, can you describe what or who you are looking at?

If there are no dolls in sight while you are reading this post, go to the closest place where there ARE dolls and can you describe what you see?

That’s todays assignment!!
Let’s see who does it!! :o)

Thanks everyone,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Hi all,
    ne
I replied to a few messages on yesterday’s post–Rosemary’s and two of Barbara’s–if you want to look.

Well, from where I’m sitting I see my Leneda ballerina doll (from Leeann.ca) and I know not far from her are two or three other Leeann dolls, but they are put away at the moment. And I also see Kirsten’s trunk , which I know has Kirsten inside it. And a tote FULL of Leeann clothes!!

Has George had his surgery yet, Jeanne? Or do you have at least a date for it? Keeping you in prayer.

I always check back to the day before to see any new comments and saw yours. I love the comment about the Halloween ghost. Too funny. Yes I think #122 has a lovely face and coloring. I read many of the opinions and they all said the same thing. Andrea is my daughter’s name so obviously I love the name and I surprisingly don’t have a doll named Andrea (it was the name of many paper dolls and dolls when I first heard the name when the Andrea Doria sunk LOL). I was thinking of Drew something. Andrea Drew, Drew Andrea. Hmmm….

My answer to the question for today is “Yes”! Early in the morning, like 3;00 or so, I am downstairs in the office, which is open to the family room, where I have a big long shelf for Josefina and Kaya. The way the computer is located, that shelf is straight ahead on the right. I have all of their things on that shelf, Josefina’s trunk with her clothes, plus accessories inside, her nightstand, school desk, loom, and oven with her food. Next to her is Kaya, who for the moment is upstairs with the 40’s girls acting as their teacher! I have her food, campfire, dog and sled, and a pony there too. I have a few little Indian artifacts scattered around for her, so both of them have company and feel at home!

If I’m not downstairs, and watching tv, well that is a no brainer, since my tv is in the room with both the 40’s girls, and modern girls. Mollys kitchen and bedroom are also in there, so I see nothing but dolls while watching tv! My hubby is in the family room watching his tv, since we don’t usually watch the same things. I have another room with Felicity, Cecile and Kirsten in it, so you can’t get far in this house without seeing dolls!

  3. Sissy Lingle on the GA coast

I am in our din where the tv and our MACs are. On the couch is my moppet Mae in the nautical dress I have finished for a client. She is waiting for me to finish 2 Nautical outfits for boys for the same client. My moppet Pia is on the table by my recliner, wrapped in fabric. That is where I do my hand work. Pia is the model for the boy outfits.

I can’t see the ones in my living room, but there are a LOT there.

Keep us posted about George, Jeanne!

  4. I am in the van at school, so the closest “doll” I can see is Lilly eating toast 🙂 She is wearing a pink, white, brown, and green flower and leaf dress. Dominic is behind me and had a hiccup. 🙂 The other “dolls” left and were wearing uniforms. One of the uniforms was navy blue. I don’t remember what kind the others had on. Off to home! There is a chance we look at puppies today! (My sweet, sweet Cocker Spaniel passed in the summer.)

    1. Sweet adventure Karen!!
      Lovely live dolls
enjoy your adventure to look at puppies.
Cocker Spaniels are indeed really sweet dogs. I know you have many nice memories

    2. Linda in St. Louis

Karen, you sound like a busy young mother this morning, which I am sure you are! Love to hear about the little ones, and your “big” school girls! Looking at puppies, that’s all you need!🥰

    3. Barbara in SE Texas

Great comment Karen. I always thought of my children as dolls and dressing them was great fun since when they were small I made a lot of their clothes. Later not so much since I don’t sew blue jeans and t-shirts. So sorry to hear about your Cocker. We lost our Chelsy two years ago next month. They are absolutely amazing dogs. Will you be getting another one or something else or you don’t know yet?

      1. Karen from Kentucky

Thanks, Barbara! I am sorry to hear about your Chelsy. I think Cocker Spaniels are one of the best kinds of dogs that there are. But this time we are leaning towards a Yorkie or a Yorkie mix, since that is what my husband prefers, and he will probably be putting more time into caring for her than I would because of the new baby.

        1. Barbara in SE Texas

I have a friend who wouldn’t have anything but a Yorkie she loves them so much. She lost her beloved Yorkie a few months ago after many years of being together. She didn’t wait long before getting another but I have to laugh because it’s got a whole different temperament than her previous one. Kind of like the difference in children. She’s crazy about it though but it keeps her hopping and she’s my age. I hope it’s not a scam. That happened to my son and daughter-in-law once when they were looking for a Cocker. In addition to losing the money they were so sad to not have the puppy.,

    4. Hi, Karen, you have some of the best dolls as well. I’m sorry to hear about your sweet Cocker. Looking at puppies will be fun. Pets are wonderful! Please share photos when/if you get a little furball.

    5. Elaine M. Hoffman

Hi Karen, I am so sorry for the loss of your Cocker Spaniel. I lost my 17 1/2 year old Westie Lilly-Pup in 2021 on Thanksgiving night in our bedroom on the floor. She died naturally, I didn’t take her anywhere to put her down. It went pretty fast from 6-10:30pm. She was having labored breathing. I applied for another Westie, a puppy this time and my husband wanted to name her Ellie which in Scottish means Bright Candle and also short for Elinor which was my Grammie’s name. Ellie is 2 years old now and she is the sweetest pup. I love her so much.

      1. Karen from Kentucky

Hi Elaine, Thank you very much! I am very sorry to hear about your Westie Lilly-Pup. She sounds like a wonderful friend. I am sure you have a lot of memories with her.
Ellie sounds very special and has such a meaningful name. I am glad you are enjoying her! Thank you for sharing <3

  5. Oh Dolls.
I do have some small special souvenir dolls from around the world in my curio. The curio cabinet is about 6 feet tall and has 5 shelves. We bought the curio from one of my husbands friends many many years ago when he was down sizing.
These dolls are ones I have had since I was a child. My father traveled the world as an auditor (not many people wanted this position but my dad always brought back presents!!!!) Jeanne. I will take several photos and describe them. I will send them to your email address. I will also go upstairs and get Felicity, Samantha, and two more AG dolls with the names Christina and Elizabeth. long story. At present they are napping in a covered box with pillows and blankies
I will do that today. It is very cloudy outside but I can get some good pictures
    Happy Tuesday every one.
I hope all of you are feeling great. Hubbs ordered pizza last evening, something we have not done in ages. I had the worst heart burn last night until about 3am. I slept on 3 pillows, but at about 3am I was able to snuggle down in my bed. Funniest thing ever. I guess I need to go to the doc and get an upper GI scan.
I usually make home made pizzas with Naan bread and not eat so much. I admit, we gobbled that pizza. bad idea.
    Love all of you

  6. My doll room is downstairs and I’m sitting in my bedroom working on some paperwork so can’t see them and Barbie’s and Miss Revlon’s, one Tonner, a couple of Shirley Temples and a two Madame Alexander’s.
However, in view is: a used AMG Molly’s plaid jumper which I just washed and another homemade blouse my sister made for Molly. They’re drying in our bathroom. Linda: like you, I’ve been buying a few jumpers for Molly and her friends here and there – all for their school uniforms! I think I have 5 of them.

    1. Linda in St. Louis

Wow, five school jumpers, Paula! I stopped at three since I have only Molly, Ruthie and Susan as the dolls who wear them. However, I do also have three of Molly’s camping outfits and three Girl Scout uniforms, so they can all go camping together, or have a Girl Scout troop! Those outfits are getting pricier everyday!

  7. Joy in northern CA

I’m sitting in a corner of the family room in the dark as I read this post. The overhead light went out, and I haven’t had time to move things around to bring in the tall ladder to switch out bulbs. There are eyes staring at me from all around just catching a glimmer of light from the slider outside door on the other side of the room. I might add, many many eyes. In fact, it is kind of spooky. It’s even dark outside this morning as the fog has rolled in as well. The eyes belong to Ruby Reds, Natterer kids, Meadow girls, and lots of others.
Running late today as I didn’t sleep very well. Had to get up and put in eye drops with a flashlight as I didn’t want to wake other person.
Jeanne’s idea for a post has been a lot of fun. Have to come back later and read it more thoroughly. Keep up your strength Jeanne, and George too, of course. We’re all pulling for you.

  8. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, I am in my office (second bedroom). There is one doll in residence here, Timmie (Madame Alexander).

What I see also is the small closet filled with doll dresses! There are dresses for Caroline (Kaye Wiggs Holly), Emily Louise and sister Sophie (Gotz Happy Kidz), and Satoe (Adora). The dresses take up all of the hanging space. I have storage boxes and bins on the shelves above and a lateral file cabinet below.

I am waiting for one of the producers from an HGTV decorating show to knock on my door and offer to send one of the hosts to help me organize. Hmmm. I will let you know if that happens (laugh).

    1. Elaine M. Hofffman

Hi Dorothy, I am in love with the HGTV Channel 112 on our Dish Network home improvement shows like Unsellable Houses with the twins Leslie and Lyndsey (not sure if I spell it correctly. I love House Hunters, My Lottery Dream Home, Bargin Block, Help, I wrecked my house, No demo with Jen with the long red hair, I love all of those shows and that is mostly what I watch in the evenings besides Hallmark and Great American Family channel. I also love the Maine Cabin builders as well. I wish I had the energy to demo and create gorgeous spaces like these people do on their shows for myself. I know it is very hard work, but it looks like so much fun. I love the kitchen and bathrooms the best on the creativity that they use for each of these spaces don’t you?

  9. Elizabeth in Texas

There are seven Ruby Red dolls on display in my art/sewing room, as I mostly sew now for this size doll….love their sweet expressions!. Also, reclining in two Hobby Lobby beach chairs are two Barbie dolls who appear to be chatting with each other….one is a curvy Barbie and the other is a flexible, jointed Barbie.

There are two Wellie Wisher dolls, one American Girl doll, and two 18 inch Heidi Ott dolls in the closet as I don’t have a single surface to display them in the art room! I did sew many outfits for these types of dolls for my Granddaughter when she was a little girl, but I am really enjoying sewing for the Ruby Red dolls, and would love to have an Etsy Shop for my Ruby Red ensembles! I also made many complete bed sets for the Wellie Wisher dolls that were themed to the chosen fabric prints. My original Barbie dolls and Vogue Ginny dolls are also stored for lack of space to leave them out!

My Granddaughter is in her last year of college now so I still sew outfits for my Great-Granddaughter, who just turned nine. I made her a Barbie Costume shop complete with Halloween outfits which included costumes for a Princess, Pirate, ghost, Cowgirl, Queen of Hearts, and two different long Witch gowns with capes and decorated witch hats…she and her Birthday party friends had a ball trying on the costumes!

I also work on dollhouses and furniture to go with them, create my own greeting cards needed for each year, craft art dolls, as well as work as an artist….currently doing a watercolor of a black Puma for my daughter’s upcoming Birthday, since she loves animals and especially cats. She has nine cats and four bunnies!

    1. Barbara in SE Texas

Wow Elizabeth you are a woman of many talents. What part of Texas do you live in? Your Costume shop sounds like a wonderful idea, especially for a birthday party.

    2. Oh, my, Elizabeth. Makes me wish I were a little girl and you were my grandmother. But then I remember that my own grandmother – years and years ago – made a entire wardrobes for my and my sister’s dolls (we each had only one), using wonderful patterned feedsack cloth and her own super-power of crochet trim. Those with creative grandmamas are very lucky!

Sadly I spend hours on my computer in my study with no dolls for company. But, since my dolls are all in my sewing room, I can go stand in the doorway and see them all. I have a TV stand in there that used to have a TV on top but it is obsolete for streaming TV so I gave it to Skyy for his games. The stand has a large top so most of my dolls are on that (RRFF, Sylvia Natterers, Paola Reinas, Betsy, Barbara and Linda McCall and Jane Tonner, plus my 1952 Toni Doll, Animator Cindy Ella, my two rescue dolls, my RRFF Minis and my two 18″ MA dolls. My Effner Little Darlings and L’il Dreamers sit on the top of my Singer treadle machine next to the TV stand. My Effner Heartstrings, Tiny Betsy, Paola Reina Minis, two Lissy dolls, Vintage Ginger, Modern Ginny, 8″ Shirley Temple, Meadow Lolla, Blythe, two Bonekas, Skipper, Stacey. Kruseling doll, Ruby Bridges and my H4H dolls are on the bookshelf on the right-hand wall near the TV stand. Hopefully I haven’t left anyone out.

    1. Barbara in SE Texas

Left out my two Wellie Wishers, Camille and Kendall. Didn’t take long for them to inform me of that. They are also on the top of the TV stand.

    2. Elaine M. Hoffman

Hi Barbara, You have a Blythe Doll! Yeah. I have two now. I broke down and got Dear Forest Deer for my birthday/Christmas 2023. I also have my first one that came nude and bald some years ago and I purchased a porcelain doll wig for her. Right now on that doll I have a Kemper doll wig on her head and it is Danielle in Auburn with bangs. I love Blythe dolls don’t you? I wished that I could find more sewing patterns for them that are like Italian Renaissance and English Tudor costumes. Do you know about Stitch by Stitch with Lily on Youtube? She is a South Korean woman who started her channel on Youtube during Covid. She give us free PDF sewing patterns for Blythe dolls every other week. You’ll love her channel. I call her Professor because she is like a Home Economics Professor teaching us sewing for our Blythe Dolls.

      1. Barbara in SE Texas

I only have one Blythe doll but I love her. I have tons of sewing patterns for her but haven’t made her much so far. I’m definitely going to check out Stitch by Stitch with Lily on Youtube to get her expertise. I had never heard of Blythe dolls until a couple years ago and now it seems many of the sites I check out for doll things have things for Blythe. I’ve also found sites for accessories for her. There is one site where I bought a bicycle that is so detailed it’s amazing. I tend to use it for my 8″ dolls though because Blythe is so top heavy I’m afraid she’ll fall off and hurt herself.

  11. Thank you for the sweet comment, Ingrid. I was also sorry sorry to read about your precious kitty, Madison.
Congrats on getting #122, Barbara. I’m guessing she’ll be your very first AG.
I’m in my bedroom at my desk because that’s where my laptop usually is at the moment. On my lap, on my bed, and on my velvet covered swivel rocker chair are the BEST “dolls”. They are solid black or combinations of black, white, gray, and brown with soft fur, long tails, the sweetest faces, bright eyes, and pink tongues.
My six PC/AGs (all renamed except Felicity, but I’ll give their original names for ease – Samantha, Felicity, re-wigged Nellie, Josefina, Caroline, and Marie-Grace are standing on the glass door bookcase . One RRFF, Anaelle is inside. My other two RRFFs are in their boxes under the bed so I can’t see them.

    1. Barbara in SE Texas

Loved your description of your best dolls. They sound so adorable and cuddly too. Definitely good company. My two 18″ dolls are Madam Alexander but they were made unlike any doll Kathie had ever seen, and she’d seen many, so they can’t be properly fixed. I decided to go the AG route this time because I started out with the idea of getting a historical doll. I just couldn’t resist #122 and since I don’t collect that size doll but wanted one to sew for since I have boxes of patterns, and I like making more modern attire, she seemed the way to go. As for RRFFs I have Bella, Sara, Hanna, Maya, Kayla, Stella, Freida (Naomi Ruth), Anaelle, Sydney, Bailey, Callie, Mini Sara, two Minii Hanna and a Mini Bailey due some time.

  12. Elaine M. Hoffman

Hi Jeanne, As I am reading this post to the left of me as I am writing on my computer on my roll top desk in our study area, I see my Santa from Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer Movie from the 60’s and Baby Rudolph as well. He use to say Santa, Mama, Papa, Goodbye with batteries in him. A little ways away from Santa and Rudolph is my Pleasant Company Kirsten Larson in a Lanz of Salzburg flannel nightgown that I sewed for her long time ago. So long in fact that the elastic around the wrists of the sleeves has stretched out. Behind me in my Danish Teakwood wall unit I see my Hummel dolls Hansel and Gretel in their lederhosen and dirndl looking adorable. To the left of them on the cradle that I built for my son when I was stationed in West Germany back in the 1980’s and had tolepainted by my instructor Frau Ursula Born, sits my largest Nuremburg Angel with blonde hair and wax face and hands and she is wearing the prettiest long dirndl in calico pink with a long hunter green calico apron and she has criss cross chains on her bodice of her dirndl. She is built on a brass cone to be placed onto a Christmas tree on top. I believe she should of had a brass scroll for a hymn to sing from, but she came with a little woven basket on her left arm. Her hair is braided up in a very Bavarian hairdo. Her face is very angelic and I just love her at the height of 13″ tall. She is so beautiful to me. To the right of me on my end table I see my Snuggle Buns Remco 1965 vinyl doll dressed in an adorable bonnet and little dress that flares out with tulle underneath and she wears tiny little German shoes that tie in an off white/ivory color with rosettes on the top of them and she has tiny little crocheted socks too. I had a doll like this when I was a little girl for Christmas under the tree. She has blonde hair and had blue eyes that turned green over the years due to them being acrylic. Back then, they did not have too many brunette dolls, mostly blondes. That’s all I can see at the moment.

    1. Barbara in SE Texas

Wow Elaine you not only see many dolls but all of them are definitely special to you. I would love seeing pictures of some of them sometime. Your descriptions are very detailed.

  13. Marilyn in Colorado

My dolls are in another room. This one is filled with books. Someone mentioned the uniform for girls today — jeans and tees. I found an Etsy seller who sells themed tees — favorite rock bands, Swiftie shirts — in AG size — mostly short-sleeved tees — you can choose your shirt color. If you message her about something you want, she may have some ideas. Julie wanted a Kamala tee, and Carlotta (Evette) wanted a Maryland flag — neither was shown on the Bellas Divas Etsy site, but the seller sent me some ideas. At about $12 each, they make inexpensive, original presents. Lindsay and Isabel are Jewish and were very pleased to get menorah-themed shirts, and Kit loves the Swedish trolls on her God Jul shirt.

Nice question. Keep taking good care of all of you.

  14. Jeanne.
you can email me at rosemarybolton at icloud dot com and I will send you a few pictures. They are not great. I need to “venture into the basement” to find the clothes and so much accessories. but I did manage to get some outside pictures

  15. Wow. I look up from my computer in my office and there are dolls everywhere.
To my left is my current Maru & friends display: “Dolls as Other Dolls”. There are 33 dolls in 5 tiers there; 6 are 20″ Marus, 2 are Effner Little Darlings, 7 are little (4″ or smaller) dolls acting as dolls’ dolls, one repainted 8″ Robin Woods doll, and the rest are 13″ mini-Marus. I don’t think you want me to list all the “other dolls” they are dressed as, but it was a fun project to conceive and implement. (A couple of my favourites are the 20-inchers dressed as “Movie Barbie” (in pink gingham) and “Just Ken from the Oscars”.) Behind them I can see most (4 14″ dolls- one boy, 3 girls) of my RubyRedFashionFriends grouping. Beyond that I can see my 18″ Monster High dryad doll.
Below the Maru display is a short filing cabinet within easy reach which is currently topped with a needs-much-TLC American Girl doll that I am repairing and redressing as a Russian Snegurka (Snow Maiden) for a Christmas display.
Directly in front of me, on my art table behind my computer, are a Robin Woods 15″ doll and a Tonner Imperium doll, both stripped of paint and waiting face-ups. Beyond them are a series of bookcases. On the top shelf of one sits my Ashton Drake Effner Alice in Wonderland. The shelf below her houses some of my Tonner Ellowyne & Friends dressed in Steampunk style: 3 females and 5 males (one of which is actually a Tonner Harry Potter adopted and dressed by the Steampunk crew. )
To the right are my tall filing cabinets topped with my 5 Tonner Evangeline Witches: two of the Oz line (Glinda and a ooak Wicked Witch), my ooak Winter Witch, my Queen of the Night witch, and my lovely Earth Witch Angelique.
There are more dolls below the RRFFs that I can’t actually see (my computer is in the way), and still more on the bookshelves behind me. My dolls make me very happy.. and make my office very crowded.
