My Meadow, Mae in her new hat!

HI everyone,
I hope you had a wonderful weekend. I managed to get a “little” bit of sewing done tonight and you’ll see it in just a minute.

I’m hoping you can see the corduroy fabric a little better in these pictures. I moved my lights a little closer to Mae when I was taking them. There’s a fine line in showing the aqua color and then washing out her skin tone to almost white… So, I played around a little bit and think there might be enough “good” pictures that you can rest assured it is in the aqua family… not gray!

Also, I tied some rayon ribbons on her braids, and even though “I” can tell you they are a perfect coordinated match, I think they are too big… it’s the first thing I see when I look at the pictures, so I’m thinking of finding something more toned down and narrow.

Okay, let’s see what I did… If you click on any picture, it will enlarge.

Still no shoes yet, but she’s got a hat! I added a ruffle to a pattern I drafted for her and made it like Bitty Bethany’s. The inside is lined with pink and white check… like the bodice of her romper.

Here is a close up so you can see the felt flowers and leaves…

Here’s that button I was telling you about which was added to her pockets. My picture isn’t the clearest, but I think the button area came out focused…

My aqua bench was pretty handy to pose her on since her outfit kind of matches it.

Here are a couple more pictures just so I can prove to you that this fabric is SO SO pretty!

I laid her on her blue sleeping bag in my dolly cabinet… I hope she has a good long nap…

Thanks everyone,
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. That hat is sure cute on Mae! I really like it with the little ruffle and all.

You’re right, the ribbons are too big, and because they’re a little deeper shade than her sweater (in fact, in the last couple of pictures on My monitor, anyway, they almost look orangey or coral!), I think it makes them seem too prominent. Narrower/paler ribbons will be the way to go, I think.

Yes, that aqua bench is almost a perfect match for her corduroy! So cute.

What a cute little hat, Jeanne! Love the little ruffle!

Well, only the 4th and 5th closeup pictures of the hat and pocket show up on both of my monitors as aqua blue, none of the others do. Iā€™m sure this is frustrating for you, but I felt I had to tell you. I know you want the colors to show correctly, and rightfully so, since it is a darling outfit, and it has to be what a person sees on the screen. How about taking it outside in the sun! We should have plenty of that today!

It really is a darling outfit and I hope you can get others to see what you see.

  3. Good morning happy Monday everyone.
Jeanne, this has is super adorable. I love it, and the embellishment flowers and leaves. Everything looks lovely. Corduroy is such sweet fabric!!
How did you finish off the edges of the sweater? serging turning pressing and tacking? It looks so neat!
I hope everyone has an enjoyable Monday

    1. Rosemary, as I recall the bottom of the doll sweater was also the bottom of the sweater from which it was cut, so I’m assuming whatever hem was already in place. Not sure about the sleeve hems, though.

      1. good thought. also the collar. I need to find an old sweater…
but then I DO have 100 piles of fabric of all sorts…. :-/

Well, hello, Mae! She is so adorable with those cute little braids. Love the hat design too. The little blue bench is a perfect perch for Mae, especially since it’s color goes so well with her romper. I too, would love to see some outdoor pictures in that beautiful yard of yours. Oh, and will Mae have a little pet? Hope so.
Any word on a surgery date for George? Did Rebecca and Karn arrive? Maybe I missed that.
Looks like a cloudy day here, but since it’s my eye appointment day, no matter.
Have a good one everyone. šŸ™‚

    Dear Jeanne,

I am praying for good health for your husband and strength for you.

I love Mae’s hat. I think the outfit is just what she needs to make her way, in fashion, through one of the corn mazes which spring up at this time of the year.

Here is the information I wanted you to have about the newest Ruby Red Fashion Friend, Noelle. My friend Martha Boers has been collaborating with Rudy Red Galleria to create a doll for this line. As with many of the dolls, she is a limited edition.

Here is a link to RRFF website.

My local doll club will be taking a road trip next month. I will email you that information.

I got notice of the new doll the other day. She is lovely. So Martha Boers is a friend of yours. How nice! And how much fun for her that she gets to collaborate with Ruby Red Galleria. Looking forward to more news about your road trip next month.

Dear Barbara, hello. Martha and I were in an online doll group years ago. She has a blog site called Antique Lilac where she tells stories using her dolls. Like Jeanne, she sews beautiful doll clothes but just for her own dolls.

A friend in my local doll club is getting the doll so I will get to see Noelle when she arrives. She is a pretty doll.

I’m definitely seeing another doll being the one that got away. First it was Dumpling Bailey and now Moppet Mae. I missed out on Bailey and anyone selling one will probably want more than I can afford. The moppets are already out of my dolly price range.

Mae is such a precious little one and I know you are over the moon to be able to sew for her. This outfit is adorable and so perfect for this time of year. I love her little hat. Can’t wait to see what she will be wearing on her feet. She looks so sweet on her little “matching” bench.

Well I’m just finishing up on several days of dressing my dolly girls for fall/back-to-school. No matter how many clothes they have they don’t always have the right thing for the right time. Doing this gives me a chance to see who needs what so I don’t do too much for one and not enough for another. Keeps peace in the dolly room. I do have a few designers that give me a hand with ready-made along the way so no one does totally without: Idreamofjeannemarie (when I’m lucky enough to win an auction), Cottontail Doll Designs for my RRFFs, and Hand Made Y’all for my Wellie Wishers and the clothes also fit my H4H girls. All lovely wearing attire. I mentioned the dress with the interesting sleeves on the drawing board for my Ann Estelle Sophia, and dresses for my Mini Hanna twins, but I noticed that there are a few others who could use a wardrobe upgrade so I will not be lacking future sewing projects. Then we will come up on the holidays and I have a few that need something for that. The one thing I can’t ever seem to get around to is making costumes for Halloween or the dance recital I keep wanting to create. Maybe some day.

    1. Barbara, one year my Molly wanted to be a ghost (she already had cowgirl and clown costumes, you understand!) so I found a sort of gauzy white fabric that was semi-sheer, placed it over her head and figured out where to draw the eyes, and how long to make the thing, took it off and hemmed it up and colored in or cut (can’t remember which) the eyes, and it was done! Easiest costume ever! (She now also has a nurse costume. That girl!)

I won’t be getting Noelle because I had to make a decision today about an 18″ doll. I mentioned I was changing all my doll’s clothes and that included my two 18″ MA dolls. Since they cannot be restrung like most dolls, per Kathie when I sent them to her, they are awkward to handle. Kathie did her best but her efforts have disintegrated since she did them and it pains me to say but I just don’t want to sew for them. Sooooooo, I got on the AG website to buy a new 18″ doll. After much rumination I’ve decided on Truly Me 122. I started out wanting a historical doll but #122 just spoke to me again and again and I could not convince myself of any other. So sometime soon I will get my new 18″ doll. Not sure what her name will be as yet but I’m sure something will come to me before she arrives.

    1. Oh, she has a very sweet face! I can see why you wanted her, Barbara! The name that popped into my head when I saw here was Andrea.

We just got back from 200 mile trip to the airport in Jax, FL, to pick up my older son. Stopped at Cracker Barrel for dinner and the grocery store for things he likes to eat for breakfast and lunch. I handle dinner. He will be here until Thursday and will have some work to do ( he is a free lance in advertisement), and will help me with some things in the yard. I will be busy.

    Love the hat, Jeanne!

    Hi Jeanne,
The outfit is adorable! I have this pattern… one day I’ll find the time to make it. Fingers crossed. I’m so very sorry to hear hubby needs more surgery. Praying for a good outcome!
Laura, I’m sorry to read the heartbreaking news of your sweet kitty. Praying that your other fur babies are a comfort to you as you grieve your loss.
Karen, thank you for the lovely thank you card. Please tell the girls their drawings are beautiful!
