Quick Reminder: “Harvest Delight,” which Stella has been wearing all week is now waiting for the winner to be revealed! We’ll find out on Ebay this evening, as the auction is ending. If you haven’t seen the set yet, (it’s perfect for Fall), I hope you’ll take a peek… you can click the picture on the right side bar or you can click HERE.
I worked on the romper for Mae this evening and it’s so adorable… but I AM going to have to probably get some outside pictures as they just aren’t showing how absolutely beautiful this corduroy fabric is… It’s THIS SAME fabric that I made a dress for Bitty Bethany years ago. I don’t know why I can’t get my corduroy to show up as “pretty” as these pictures show it. It’s kind of an aqua blue, but not totally blue…
Okay, back to the romper… Here’s Mae trying it on… I am still very nervous when she stands in her bare feet! I just don’t want her to fall over… I would probably drop my phone to catch her.
Again, this is Marsha’s pattern on Etsy… click on the link for her shop… Trentsation
I used the Cluny trim on the pockets instead of using the accent piece for the top of the piece…and I added the trim to the high waist. I know several of you were concerned about the color of it, but it is a perfect match…
I feel much more at ease when I have Mae sitting down… here she is…
Here she is with that sweater on… I’m not done yet… don’t worry!
A few more with the sweater and then I want to show you something…
Marsha added some tips in her pattern and I wanted to share one with you… It’s regarding SNAPS… so listen up Joy! (She hates sewing on snaps!) :o)
I decided to give her way of sewing them on a try… and have some pictures to share…
Instead of sewing on the smaller thinner side of the snap… put the thicker side (for girls) on the right side of the back… and stitch it where you think it should go… like this… I put mine right on the edge, because I didn’t have too much extra fabric… maybe the corduroy was thicker… (This thick side is generally easier to hold and sew on.)
The next thing you do is go ahead and snap the smaller, thinner piece onto the thick side of the snap… like this… (sorry this picture isn’t the clearest… but I hope you can see it…
Now take a tiny bit of glue and put on the backside of the snap you just snapped in the other side…
Then carefully lay your left back side of your fabric onto the right back side and line up your trim or your waistline and push it down with your thumb for probably 20 seconds…
I tried to take a close up shot of what it will look like sandwiched between the fabrics…(The thicker side is sewn down and the thinner side is snapped into to with a bit of glue on top of it… then push your fabric on top of the snap…)
Next take your fingernail and carefully put it between the thin side of the snap and the thick side… and it will pop out of the thick side, hopefully without moving and be stuck to the inside back of the left side of your garment.
Then it stays in place while you easily sew the snap on… (Sew your buttons on the outside first…) I sewed 3 buttons on the romper but only used 2 snaps… the middle button is “just for looks!”
Here is the inside… No “blue ribbon” work here, but it was really a great way to sew on snaps…
And here is the finished picture of the back… my buttons look like they are sewn on crooked, but they are straight across… it must be the way the fabric is laying.
The pattern is a wonderful fit and very easy to follow…
Well, here’s one more look at Mae… she likes it!
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
Mae’s outfit is just darling, Jeanne! Thanks for sharing the new-to-me method of sewing on snaps. Clever! I’m going to have to try that in the near future.
HI Charlotte,
Thanks for your kind words about Mae’s outfit. I’m glad you like it.
I love that new way of sewing on snaps too. I used to just use a pin in the
center holes of the snaps… but it seems all the manufacturers of snaps have almost stopped making those tiny holes to slide a pin in. Dritz has the bigger snaps with center holes, but Hobby Lobby’s Sewology snaps have no center hole, and Prym has stopped making the center holes. I’ve used my leather awl to punch the holes bigger… so the glue might be my new way of adding snaps.
Thanks Charlotte,
Blessings, Jeanne
Yes, Jeanne, I see how pretty the blue looks in your pictures of Bitty Bethany! Also, the close-ups where you are showing how to sew the snaps on, that looks like a pretty aqua blue, but not the full size pictures of Mae. Maybe it. Is the lighting, switching over to a brighter light inside?
I was wondering g what kind of glue you used to cover the snap? Regular Elmer’s?. Only I could grow strong enough fingernails to do the job like you did! Mine break over nothing! Putting a necklace on requires a husband!! LOL
The little pockets on the sides trimmed with lace are so cute! Just the thing for putting little treasures in that little girls find! Can’t wait to see what comes next for the sweater trim,
HI Linda,
All the pictures I recently took of Mae have been at night, so maybe in the day time I can get some better pics.
I just used The Ultimate Glue from Hobby Lobby, but I think Aleene’s glue might work. I think Marsha said she uses Sobo glue…
I’m glad you are liking the outfit so far… I hope it continues…
Blessings, Jeanne
Dear Jeanne, the outfit looks so sweet on her. Mae looks adorable in every ensemble you create.
Thank you Dorothy,
She looks really cute in it in person… I’ll just have to get that color thing figured out.
You said a few days ago you sent me something in an email… I don’t think I got it… was it a note from you or something about something else?
I’ll check in my spam and see if I see anything there…
Thanks so much,
Blessings, Jeanne
I love the corduroy!! and that sweater.
Do you press it and teeny tiny sew the facings? the edges look so smooth and flat!!
Glue is wonderful. I have a dot glue bottle for gluing down all sorts of things ; labels on the back of quilts before I sew them down. sometimes an area of binding, to keep even. sometimes even pieces of quilt blocks for accurate sewing. Elmers is washable. Tacky glue is a bit …. overkill.
This outfit is adorable.
Happy Thursday every one
Hi Rosemary,
The sleeve edges and the bottom of the sweater were laid on and cut on the bottom of the adult sweater, so they already had a finished edge.
The rest of the sweater was “edged” with that Fray Block stuff. It hardened just a bit, which made it easy to fold over the edges. Since it was a really soft sweater… by putting glue around the edges and then turning them back, it created a really nice finish.
I’m going to try Barbara’s method of putting a bit of Fray Check on a piece of wax paper and then going around the edges of the sweater pieces using a brush dipped in the Fray check. I think that might work well for doll sweaters.
Thanks Rosemary,
Blessings, Jeanne
Love little Mae and her corduroy romper. So cute. Those little pink buttons on the back match perfectly. I absolutely love the idea of gluing the snaps. Now, if they only made a strong enough glue to just hold on the snaps without sewing, I’d be set. Ha ha I do think my problem with the snaps are large hands and and fingers. Trying to hold on to those micro snaps held on with glue definitely might help. 🙂 Will you be making Mae a hat the same style as Bitty’s? That would be so cute on her.
Believe it or not, we have leaves down everywhere. And yesterday we had some strange wind that didn’t help. Too bad the street cleaner came before the wind started. Lots of clean up to do around here.
Thank you Joy! I knew you’d like the glue idea for snaps! Marsha saves the day!
I was going to go see about a hat for Mae as soon as I did some comments.
We got down to 49 degrees 2 nights ago… it’s breezy here today but pretty nice…
Thanks Joy,
Blessings, Jeanne
What a terrible year this has been. Another of my precious kitties, Cassie went home to Heaven on Monday. She had FIP and sadly the medicine that works in 80% didn’t work for her. It has more success in kitties under 2. The medicine was quite new, it didn’t even exist a couple of years ago or less. I don’t know if I shared photos of her here, but she was a sweet, very tiny black kitty with a narrow ring of white around her neck like a pearl necklace. I rescued her in 2021 from the porch and she was eight at that time according to my vet. My other kitties are so sad as well. I do know she’s safe with my other pets until I see them again.
Oh, Laura. Very sorry to hear of the demise of another of your kitties. So heartbreaking. Our neighbor had to have her black kitty put to sleep last week. Illness and dementia. She has a nice memorial in her backyard reminding me that we have sites for two dogs and three kitties in our backyard. We’ll never forget them. Please take care.
Thank you, Joy.
Laura I am so sorry about your precious Kitty. It is only a week since I lost my Louis it feels longer. Thinking of you
Thank you, Anne.
Oh, Laura, I’m so sorry about you losing Cassie. I’m sure it was a shock and I hope this is the last of your kitty troubles. I hope you can think about all the joy she brought you and remember those times.
Blessings, Jeanne
Thank you, Jeanne.
Oh my goodness, Laura! How sad that you have lost another kitty! My condolences to you. Our pets live on in our memories while our hearts are broken. Peace to you!
Laura, I am so sorry about your fur baby’s loss. I am glad you do have some others so you are without any, but I know it is still very sad for you.
Jeanne, the outfit is looking so cute. I love the one you make for BB too! She is such
a cute doll and the outfit is precious on her.
Thank you for that awesome idea for sewing on snaps……that is the part of sewing doll clothes that I dislike intensely 🤪🤪
Adorable clothes 💕💕
