I just read over the comments but it was too late to comment… thanks to everyone who keeps chattering away while I’m busy sewing. That makes me feel good knowing you are still there.
Yes, Linda, Bonnie is my mom’s sister…
Karen, you said your mom’s name is Bonita… doesn’t that mean “beautiful” in Spanish?
Sissy, an afterthought… I guess I could have tea or coffee dyed my lace… but I didn’t think of it at the time…
Anne… I think my crafting has expanded to TWO or THREE cupboards full!
Joy, you were the busy one today… sounds like you got lots accomplished though… We have an annual Apple Festival in the next town over… maybe Stella is going there.
Thanks everyone… for all your kind comments on my Aunt Bonnie’s sewing and her room. I should have taken more pictures of her house, not just the “things” in it…
Okay, it’s time to reveal what I was working on for Stella today… a pair of thigh highs and a pair of brown leather boots.
The thigh highs are just brown ribbed stretchy fabric… the fabric is slightly slick so a bit dressier than cotton. They are super easy to put on and long enough to catch on the indentation at the top of her thighs… they stay hooked on that and won’t fall down…
The boots are made from a medium soft brown leather and have copper colored eyelets that have laces running through them.
I’m going to wax my cording so the laces aren’t so “wild” looking. The wax will make them easier to tie too.
I did make one boo boo on the boots. I didn’t cut my leather for the sole long enough. When I was stitching them to the sole I didn’t notice it… there are the right number of holes to match up to the holes in the heel section, but when I put my pink shoe last in the boots when they were wet, it pushed out the back of the boot past the stitching. Stella’s heel still fits down in the boot. In fact the boot is a little longer than her foot, but it just looks a little funny from the side… (I’m my own worst critic!)
Here is Stella with everything on…
You can see in this picture a closeup of the boots with the thigh highs and the jumper fabric…
Okay, I’m getting close on this set… but a little bit more…
Thanks everyone,
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
The dark brown thigh-highs and boots are just the right additions to this outfit, Jeanne! I don’t think the heel pushing out a bit is going to make much difference, as long as the boot still fits and all!
I wonder what that “little bit more” is going to be?! Maybe a book bag? That would be my guess. I carried a book bag when I was in elementary school. As I recall, mine was red canvas (or something like that) with brown trim.
I finally unboxed my RRFF Sandy last night. I’ve had her for well over a week, but although I opened the box, that was as far as I had gotten. I have to say, she has one of the prettiest faces I have seen!! Her wig isn’t my favorite, but I’m not crazy about really long hair, so that’s just me. The color (very pale blonde) is about like mine was when I was a kid (and well into my 30s, at which time it started getting darker; now, at 78, I am still waiting for gray hair–my hair is kind of a dark blonde now).
My hair color is weird these days. My hair used to be Chestnut but once it turned gray it’s lighter in the front and a darker gray in the back. Unless you knew me before, you would figure I just had very dark hair to begin with.
Now that I’ve seen a few Sandy’s, I wish I had ordered her. I wasn’t sure about the hair either, but I have seen it with the bang things brushed to the side and it looks great. Congrats on your new girl. π
The brown thigh highs and boots just hit the spot, Jeanne! That outfit looks like a very comfortable one to wear, and so fashionable to boot! Stella must love it as much as I do, so now we have to see where she is going to “show off”!
The boots look fine to me, no worries about that little extra slip up you say you had. If you didn’t mention it, who woud know? Yes, the laces do look a bit wild, but you said you would wax them, so that takes care of that.
I think an outfit like this for an American Girl doll would be cute too!
Charlotte, we would love to see your new doll,, Sandy! Her name goes with this outfit!!
love the stockings… they look great with the boots.
I am sure the pushing out in the back is because of the sewing ? Either case, if it really bugs you, could you moisten and reshape the boot in the back?
This outfit is super cute. I love everything about it.
I found a funny meme: a picture of a house maid, in uniform with white apron and cap, carrying a tray (brought down from the upstairs) and drinking the last remains of a glass of champagne. The period seems to be early 1800’s
Then the word of the day is Spuddle (17th century origin)
meaning “to work ineffectively; to be extremely busy whilst achieving absolutely nothing.”
it made me laugh
I’ve experienced some days like you mentioned but didn’t have a name for them. Spuddle. I like that. It will be fun to introduce that term in a conversation and see people’s reaction.
Just spuddling around here this morning. π Thanks Rosemary. Have to get a move on as the retaining wall guys will be back at it early.
I too am wondering if the boots can be rewet and shaped again? Love the ankle boots with the outfit. The thigh highs seem a little too dark to me because I really can’t see the boots very well. Perhaps off white? Maybe it’s because the outfit makes me feel very hot today as we’re having another heatwave. Ugh. I’m sure different lighting for the final photos will make all of the difference. And, I’d love to see similar boots with striped socks and shorts for the holidays. π Those holidays are coming way too fast.
Heading out to change my good front garden hose, just the right length, to another so the workers won’t accidentally burst my favorite. π
Have a hopefully cool day everyone.
Stella’s outfit just keeps getting better and better. The brown thigh highs are great and I love the boots with the outfit. Can’t wait to see what’s next. A bookbag? I remember them sometimes being where you had a handle or could attach a strap and wear it like a shoulder bag. I always wanted one but never had one. After buying back-to-school shoes and a first day of school outfit for each of us the budget didn’t allow for something like bookbags.
I would love to see Charlotte’s new doll Sandy. I get a little behind in the RRFF offerings so haven’t a clue what she looks like.
i will be starting on back-to-school outfits for my dolly daughters today. My first will be a cute dress for my Animator Cinderella aka Cindy Ella. I was going to call her Cynthia Ella but it’s too hard to say. The other rolls off the tongue. I have several pieces of pretty fabric where the prints are too large for most of my dolls but will work great for her. I found a pattern created by Jo Flitton (used to own Jo’s Doll Shoppe) that she created for the 10″ Ann Estelle dolls of which I have Sophie. I found the perfect fabric for one of the views and am still contemplating how to embellish the dress. Then I’m going to make matching dresses for my Mini Hannas. I think they’ll look adorable. The rest of the girls are lining up and jockeying for position with their fabrics and patterns so I’d better get moving.
I can’t wait to see your girls in their back to school outfits. Hope you can share when they’re done. π
Sounds exciting, all that sewing, can’t wait to see the results!
I never had the time to comment yesterday. Your Aunt Bonnie’s quilted pictures were lovely. Loved the house one with the clothesline and the wishing well.
Stella’s outfit in so cute. She will be very cozy. Cool here this morning in the 60s.
Yup, you’re right. Bonita means beautiful in Spanish. My mother only has one older sister named Shirley, and the rest after her were 5 boys. Marion enjoyed seeing your aunt’s sewing room, too. π
Stella’s thigh highs and boots go well with her outfit. They remind me I was supposed to fix Lucia’s school shoes so the one will stop giving her a blister. Lilly started saying, “babybabybaby”. It is fun to hear her say new words. She also lately started saying her own version of “please”. Sounds kind of like “eez” with a begging note to it π
I loved watching my children develop through the years. When my daughter started talking she always said flahsh floth for wash cloth. Finally one day I told her it was a wash cloth. Oh, okay. It was wash cloth ever after. I remember how long it took to break her of saying warmed down and cooled up. And the time she was telling me a story about a man who suicided himself. She was in late middle school then. And there was the time we were going through town and there is a lot of parking on both sides and in the middle of the street. She told me I should be careful or I might get in a collusion. Not too many funny stories about my son because he didn’t talk for a long time. He couldn’t get a word in edgewise with his sister so he became a good listener. When he finally did talk he spoke perfectly – except he did it with a British accent.
Dear Jeanne, Stella looks like an Orange Delight in her new outfit. I am sure she is very happy to model it.
Jeanne, love the outfit, fun seeing it come to live. Don’t worry about the boots, they look great!
Got company coming for Peyton’s birthday, even though it isn’t until next Wed. We have lots of cleaning to do!
Itβs adorable. Except for the boots, it looks a lot like the outfits we wore to school in 1968!
