How about Mae’s sweater now???

Hi everyone,
I worked on Mae’s sweater today and think it’s pretty cute now… I hope I’m not the only one! :o)

I tried to pick up some of the colors in the corduroy fabric used for the romper and added a cluster of silk ribbon and embroidery floss flowers on her sweater. I think “some” of my pictures look better than before. Again, these pictures were taken at night with just my lights shining on her… I’m hoping daylight and even outdoor light will make the color pop like it did in Bitty Bethany’s pictures…

I also tried taking pictures in different lighting… but I’m not sure if I remember which one is which…

I added some tiny aqua buttons to the trim on Mae’s pockets.

I was going to work on a hat for her, but ran out of time…

Yesterday we went to St. Louis for a doctor’s appointment for my hubby. Sadly, he is going to have to have another surgery… not really what we wanted to hear, but were pretty sure it was inevitable. So my time is limited right now and I have to pay attention to some other matters for a bit. I’ll do what I can on my end to keep the posts going so you all can still chat…

After his appointment, and on the way home, we stopped at a huge Thrift store called Savers. They have just about everything you could want or need there. As I was walking around I took a few pictures to share with you…

Just about as soon as we went down the first aisle, I spotted this vintage? antique? really old, (not a reproduction, but really old) doll house. It was a square house made from old wood and the front part of the house swung open so you could see the insides. The front stairs going up to the porch and a table and 2 chairs were inside. The table had a missing leg… but I thought it was really interesting. It was pretty dusty and dirty but was only $6.99. No, I didn’t buy it…

Then I came to that LONG wall that has all kinds of things in plastic bags. They have them pretty well sorted out… Kitchen items, small toys, tea cups, pencils and pens, tablets, cards, and some sweet little porcelain dolls. There were quite a few… here are a few pictures…

I think with a wig, this little girl could have been pretty sweet!

Here are some more…

Back in the furniture section I saw this classroom for a doll. I’m guessing it was for an 18″ doll like the American Girl dolls, but had never seen this before. It was plastic and had a brick “look” to it on the outside…the side door opened, the clock looked like it worked, there was a button for a bell to ring, but it didn’t work. The shades went up and down on the windows and the board could be written on. It was $9.99 and would have been a great buy for some little girl to play with, but it was about 24″ x 24″ and too big for a prop that I would only use occasionally…

I totally forgot about looking to see if I could find the class room setting on Ebay… I did find it… It’s by Our Generation and this is what it looks like with some or all of the extra pieces… pretty cute, huh?

Doll School Classroom

Well, that was our day in St. Louis…
I will see you Monday…
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. I love the embroidered flowers on Mae’s sweater! So pretty. I see you’ve added some aqua buttons on the sweater, too, but I couldn’t see them on the pocket trim, for some reason.

Oh, dear, I am so sorry to hear that George will be needing surgery again. Definitely not what you want to hear. Know that we here on the sofa will be keeping both of you in our thoughts and prayers.

What wonderful things you found in that thrift store! The little house must have been quite charming when it was new. Those small porcelain dolls would make nice accessories for some of the larger dolls, I think! And, yes, that schoolroom is wonderful, and would be a lot of fun for kids to play with!

How sweet the sweater looks now! Love the embroidered flowers, and blue buttons! In fact, the buttons really do look blue, unlike the romper corduroy, which still looks gray on my monitor, no matter if I am on my computer or iPad. I sure do hope you can get the blue to show up, because it is just beautiful when you can see it as it actually is. You sewed buttons on the pockets? I too, cannot seem them! Maybe a side view would show them better. All in all, it is such a cute little outfit! Next, maybe a ruffled hat like Bitty Bethany’s?

Oh no, I’m so sorry that George is needing another surgery. We will be here for you through thick and thin, please know that! George is the bravest man I know, and we will be praying for him, so let him know.

Savers, well there is one close to my house, in Crestwood, but I am sure you probably went to the one in Fairview Heights, Illinois on your way home. My gosh, what an inventory they have! All those dolls and some are really cute! The dollhouse must have been a treasure for some little girl long ago! That schoolhouse must be fun to decorate and play with for children, but you certainly must have room for things like that, and I sure don’t!

Lairs, I wrote to you on yesterday’s blog kind of late, so if you didn’t see it, you might want to check.

Dear Jeanne, I will be praying for your husband and for you.

You always find the best dolly things! The charity shops around here rarely have dolls and if they do, the dolls are in very bad shape.

I sent you a direct email but don’t worry about it as you have too many important things upon which you need to focus. I will share the information.

  4. Jeanne, the sweater looks so good, and the outfit over all, just perfect
Best wishes to your hubbs, I hope the surgery is an easy uncomplicated procedure.
I will be praying for him and you too!!
    Friday again. !!
Your trip to the thrift shop was superb. I love little dolls, yikes.
This shop looked neat and tidy!!

Very sorry to hear that George, needs another surgery. Hopefully, it can be scheduled soon and will be a quick recovery.
I absolutely love that adorable vintage little dollhouse. So wish you had sprung for it. I would have bought it from you. 🙂 And believe it or not, I actually have that school room from Our Generation. I bought it along with the Veterinarian’s Office, and a great boat from Facebook Market Place several years ago. Took up most of our suv getting it home. So, it is big. I gave the Vet Office to a couple of girls around the corner who have two pups and parents who are both nurses. According to their parents, they loved it and had a ton of enjoyment from it. It came with all of the accessories. I’ve managed to pick up a few extra desks for the school as well. Our Generation has a lot of sets that make great backgrounds for scenes if you have the room. 🙂
Almost have that simple dress done for my CL Meili. All of that piecing to get a decent collar and sleeve took me extra time. Glad it is almost ready for her to wear. I’ll send a pic when it’s finished.
    Take care Jeanne and George

I have had such a crazy week with interruptions and appointments (not medical) that I don’t know where I left off on the blog. I read it then when I start to comment someone needs something else or it’s time to go and I never get back to it. But I do remember the conversation about the sleeves. I saw that book by Rosemarie Ionker but I never thought to buy it because I have so many patterns, which is why I wasn’t aware of that particular way of doing sleeves. The dresses that were done like that look very pretty. The process is tricky huh? Well I’ve done a lot of tricky things in the past, so I’ll be brave and try another.

I am so sorry about George needing another operation. Will definitely be praying that all goes well and for a quick recovery. We on the sofa can entertain ourselves while you are doing necessary things.

I love that schoolroom and have been looking for a prop for a more old-fashioned school set up as most things on eBay are more modern like the background and desks I already have from I think Our Generation. I love that one and it’s amazing how the desks I bought to match fit in so it doesn’t look like most of the scene is on the background. I have been wanting to do a 1950s era photo shoot with the girls in dresses from that time and saddle shoes. I have everything I need but the set up, but that one does look huge and I’ve already pretty much taken up all the room I have for props. I see where you can buy the accessories themselves but I’m having trouble finding a background that works.

I like when I hear that people north of me are cooling off. That usually means we have potential for some cooling ourselves. I remember last year when Sean and his family came here for the Boo Bash on Halloween, they thought it was cold and I was very comfortable. But there was one year when I took Sean trick or treating when we had a front come through and he was trick or treating from the car. I’d park and he’d do a few houses and run back and get into the warm car and we’d move on. At this time of year the weather here is more unpredictable than usual but usually our very hot and humid days are behind us for the year.

Jeanne, I am so sorry about George. Praying for a good result! Take care of him and I hope we can find enough things to share to help you out. I have an order for Moppet sized Nautical outfits, one for girl and 2 for boys. I it is taking me a long time but I will l send photos when they are done.

I wish we had shops like the ones in your area. We have a thrift shop our church runs but not much in the way of fun things. I loved the little doll house.

  8. Thank you, Linda and Sissy for your kind words.
So sorry to hear that George needs another surgery, Jeanne.
