Two new pieces for Freida’s outfit…

HI everyone,
Joy, your Zucchini Casserole recipe looked good and since it’s on my blog, when I go to the grocery store, I can pull up the recipe and make sure I have everything. Thanks!

Okay… I made a few changes on Freida’s set…

One being, a new skirt. The first skirt was made from the same denim fabric as the denim sandals… I used it on the sandals because it was a super fine denim and I didn’t want any bulk. Using it on the skirt, however, wasn’t such a great idea… it didn’t have any body and so it looked sort of limp on Freida’s body.

Sooo… I found a different denim, a little bit heavier and something with a little bit of character. I also drafted a different A-line skirt… one that was flared just a bit more than my first. This one turned out much better…

I stitched it with gold thread and added an antique bronze metal button in front. The back closes with snaps.

The next thing I wanted to make was a hat for Freida with some “color” to it. I wanted to use the hat pattern that I had made Freida back in the Fall… the baby pattern with the tie on the front that I reduced and made work. This one…

I found my pattern pieces , but not the actual pattern after a LONG search in my sewing room. I looked EVERYWHERE and finally found the pattern pieces in a protective sleeve with shoe patterns. I cut out the new hat, because I had the pieces, and knew how to sew the crown together and get it topstitched, but I could NOT for the life of me remember how to add the ties on the end and tie the knot. I looked online for the instructions to the pattern but could only find the pattern… It’s this pattern.

I tried one set of ties but absolutely could not tie the knot the way I did on the hat Freida has on above. So tomorrow I hope to go to the fabric store and find this pattern, open it up and see the directions on how it is done. Usually I can figure things out like this, but this one has me stumped. I was just about ready to make a long denim piece like the “two” pieces I have on the ends, and tie a knot and just tack it on, but I know that’s not how I did it…

Sooo… I just have a little part to show you… it looks crazy on Freida’s head like this, but maybe you’ll get the idea.

I am “almost positive” it goes together like this, but I just can’t get the denim tie ends to work.

So stay tuned and see if I can get this solved…

    First of all, thanks Joy for posting your recipe. I may have to try that, despite the chilis!! 😂 (I’m don’t have asbestos taste buds, I’m afraid….and I learned long ago that when somebody says “but it’s not really hot”, they are talking about in their own mouths, not mine!! LOL) But I’m thinking it would be good for a potluck, and I also think it might be easy to divide it in half and just make a smaller dish (8″ square) of it. Perhaps it would freeze well, too?

    Jeanne, that new skirt does hang better–I see what you mean. The denim has the distressed look that’s so popular right now, too. And I do like the fabric for that hat–hopefully you can figure out how the tie works (or find your directions)!! I’m sure you can.

      Charlotte, I don’t like spicy much either, however, a small can of mild chilies adds just a dash of flavor and isn’t hot at all. 🙂 I think the zucchini and cheese covers it up. And yes, I often freeze leftovers.

    Maybe we will get a translation of what Georgina said, but I cannot read or speak French! It’s all Greek to me!đŸ€Ł

    I really like the new skirt, Jeanne, and I see that it holds its shape better than the original, but both are cute! Now see, if it were me sewing the hat, I would just take the easy way out, and tack the bow onto the front and not bother anymore, but that’s not you! A “real” seamstress would do it like you, and take extra time to do it to your satisfaction! I like the idea of the print hat, which can probably be used for other outfits too.

    Well, the heat is gone, but boy did we get socked with rain yesterday! I think Dorothy will find cooler temps when she comes to Kansas City, and hopefully, drier weather! At least, I’m hoping!

        I took French in high school and understand a little still but my problem is I need to refresh my vocabulary. I understand the grammar of what she is saying but lose on some of the words. I order patterns from Les Cheries de Vaniline and they are in French. Sometimes I translate them but sometimes I just leave them in French as a refresher course.

        Thank you, Rosemary! My daughter took 4 years of French in high school, 4 years in college, and so a scholarship to a summer in France. She doesn’t live here at home anymore, so I have no translator!

      Dear Linda, thanks for this update. I am hoping for good weather also. We will be doing a few tours on Monday and Tuesday. The convention opens on Tuesday night and we will probably be in the hotel for most of that time. So much dolly fun to come!

      So, Linda, did you figure out translate? If not, put your curser on what you want translated and right click. Up will come some items. Choose translate to English. Click on it and the French will turn into English. 🙂

    Jeanne, I have no doubt you will get the outfit all straightened out, and it will be as adorable as all of the ones you make.
    We are headed home today. Last night was a wonderful birthday dinner out and there were at least 20 of us, I lost count. They brought some gifts, which I had asked them not to, and also a cake. I did hate to say good bye to them all. I will send photos to Jeanne as soon as I can get my photos together and others that are sending to me. Have a nice day and cooler for you all.

    Thanks for the comments on the Zucchini/Jack casserole. For Anne, I looked up substitutes for jack cheese and came up with Colby, Havarti, which I love, Gouda, Edam, or mild cheddar. I didn’t think to mention that I use sharp Cheddar in the recipe, bad me, but Tillamook, Sharp Cheddar is all we use around here. 🙂
    Yesterday, we took out a 20ft privet hedge, probably 10ft high. Other person used the reciprocating saw to cut it about six inches from the ground, and I stripped and cut it up into about 6″ pieces. You can fit more in a yard can doing that. It’s on our neighbor’s property, but she isn’t able to do that kind of work and was going to hire someone. Of course, we wouldn’t allow that, so went to work. Neighbor is going to have her gardener dig out the stumps. It actually came down pretty quickly, but the cutting up took much longer. We had a huge pile in our yard and in hers as well. But, we worked four hours in the morning, until one and then we both needed a break. Got some lunch and ran an errand and then were back at it. We filled our yard can, neighbor’s cans, and then took three smaller cans in the truck to our other house and filled the yard can there. Good thing they are picking up today because we are out of room for dumping. So, later, other person was wiped, but I went back out and filled another smaller can. Then, other person rallied and came out and cut up the main stalks that are too big to cut with pruners or loppers. I think we probably have another hour’s work to complete the task. Hopefully, today if I can get other person to help. 🙂 In my opinion, much better than cleaning the house. Ugh

      I forgot this morning to mention that the hat pattern would also be very cute on the Meadow Mae girls. Wish the pattern came in their size because there are so many cute pieces. Like a dress, pinafore, etc.

    Love the new skirt and the hat will be adorable.

    Right now I am waiting for Sean and family to show up. We are going to Splashway water park today. I am covered from head to toe in swim attire. Long sleeve rash guard shirt and swim leggings. I have my sunscreen and a cute bucket hat. I’ve already had a spot on my nose frozen and I’m not risking any other problems. But I must say I do look good. I also rented a cabana to get completely out of the sun but I told Dionne I would watch Azure some in the kiddie area so she can do some slides with her hubby and the older two so I needed to prepare for that and maybe a couple circuits on the lazy river.

    I think I hear the city outside picking up limbs from Beryl. It will definitely take them more than one day.

    Jack cheese is sold as Monterey Jack here. I also love Havarti, Smoked Gouda, and also Smoked Mozzarella. Yum!
