Hats and hats and hats and hats….

Seeing that I mastered the hat for Freida a few days ago, I got to thinking about all the hats I have made or some I’ve bought and decorated. I’ve done LOTS and LOTS and LOTS. I was busy today and didn’t have time to do any sewing for a new doll, but thought I could give you some eye candy on top of a few dolls heads… This will just be a slide show for you to enjoy! I’m trying to decide which doll to sew for next…

Oh, but first, Anne, from New Zealand, commented yesterday and I missed seeing that it was pending in my dashboard. She was talking about being super busy with her Block of the Month Quilt group. You should go back and read it… it was interesting how it works…

Okay, now to some beauties wearing hats! :o)

Well, as I was looking for more hats, I realized this could be the longest post ever, so I decided to end it here… I probably have 5 times as many hats that I didn’t show… but hopefully these will give you something to look at…

I hate to ask, but ANY favorites?

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

OH, EASY for me to find favorites!! The two Little Darlings in purple, in the first picture of that group!! They are my absolute favorites. I really love the blue cowgirl hat further down, too.

You are a milliner extraordinaire, Jeanne!!

Anne, I read about your block of the month thing–a LOT of work for sure, but what fun for everyone! When I was in a quilt group, we each had to make one block a month; after you had participated a third time, your name went into a drawing for the blocks that month. Later we refined it to where a name was drawn first and you could request a “theme” or something like “no pink” or whatever….and still later, we could give each person a little chunk of fabric to incorporate into a quilt block, so our blocks would go together. Nobody ever did anything like you are doing for your group, though, Anne; they are fortunate to have you, because that is a Lot of work!!

And then your sweatshirt project…you really have your hands full right now! (Your winter sounds a lot like ours most years in the Seattle area–cold and damp. Ugh!)

What beautiful hats, Jeanne! And you made the straw hats too, right? I remember a lot of them, and marvel at how beautiful they are, along with the appropriate flowers and ribbons. My favorite hat? I don’t have all day, but Felicity’s hats are really beautiful and a favorite of mine.

I did read Anne’s comments from yesterday, and all I can say is you certainly have full days, Anne, with all the things you are doing! You are one talented seamstress!

  3. Sissy Lingle on the GA coast

My goodness, Anne, what a busy lady you are, and so talented. The quilt blocks are enough and then the sweatshirts!! I hope you will send us some photos of those!

Jeanne, your hats are amazing as always. I love making the straw ones on a hat form in Little Darling size. Yours are decorated so beautifully.

  4. Oh my goodness. I am at a loss for words!
Each one of these is a gem! I can not pick a favorite. I see you put effort into each of these adorable hats! I love this hat show today.
    Thank you Jeanne

  5. Joy in northern CA

Had to quickly take a look at Anne’s post from yesterday. Wow, so interesting. And even though the weather has been miserable, she keeps very busy and even makes sweatshirts. Something I’ve only attempted once. 🙁 Take a look if you get a chance.
I didn’t see her post yesterday, although I looked because I wanted to tell her that here, in northern CA, we have a 737 air tanker, the Marie Bashir, (it’s huge) stationed at McClennan air force base in the Sacramento Valley for the summer. It is really helping with all of the lightning caused wildfires we’ve had lately. It’s from New South Wales, Australia, which when you check the map, is just across the sea from Anne’s New Zealand. So nice for us to have that big bird. 🙂
Thanks for sharing your great post, Anne.
Now onto hats. Wow, what a great variety. So many fun ideas. If Jeanne had a hat booth at one of the conventions, I’m sure that she would pay her travel expenses and convention fees as well. Just a thought. 🙂
Another hot day for us and with smoke too. Guess the wind has changed. But, it does mean that I might get those silly sleeves finally sewn back onto the doll dress I had to take apart because of my sleeve error. So something positive. 🙂

  6. Wow!!! Hats !!! You certainly have made some clever designs and beautiful hats, Jeanne. So many to look at. I see one or two of ones I got from you. The dresses near the end are just wonderful to see.

Everyone stay cool – the heat and humidity almost makes me sick.

I know what you mean about the heat and humidity making you feel sick. I cannot walk at the park in the summer because the heat and humidity get to me. It’s a mile long walk if you go the whole way and there is nowhere to sit down. I love when it’s cool and sometimes have gone around twice then just for the joy of being outside. It happens so seldom here.

I always check back to the previous day before I read the current days blog. You miss a lot if you don’t do that if you’re like me who doesn’t check in often during the day. I read Anne’s blog and immediately went back to bed LOL. Thinking about all she does and will be doing tuckered me out. I take it that she is doing well since her surgery since it sounds like she has regained her energy. I would definitely love to see the sweatshirts when she is finished. I’ve bought several of those type of shirts for my grandkids but have never tried making them myself. I made one for one of my H4H dolls and it turned out real cute but have never made one larger than that.

My grandmother and aunt would have loved seeing Jeanne’s hat creations. They loved millinery and back then everyone wore hats, especially to church. I’ve not had the best of luck at finding hats that actually fit the dolls I bought them for and I haven’t yet tried making any of the straw hats though, but I have made some fabric hats that turned out cute. I love all the hats but the one that really grabbed me was the yellow outfit on Isabel (I think). I loved that the fabric of the dress was repeated as trim on the hat. Sweet outfit but it would be hard to pick an actual favorite. love them all.

I watch “Murdoch Mysteries” which takes place from the 1890s into the early 1900s and of course everyone wore hats everywhere back then. Some of the hats are exquisite but there are a few that could sure use a touch of Jeanne’s ingenuity. But then not everyone was able to afford a nice hat but they were still expected to wear them.

  8. So nice to hear from you, Anne, and your quilt blocks sound lovely. I’m so sorry about your cold and damp winter.
Oh, HATS!!! I love hats and wish I had lived when they were any everyday thing. At least my dolls can wear them as often as I wish. So many pretty ones. The last two on Felicity are my favorites.

  9. Anne Coldron Christchurch NZ

your hats are amazing Jeanne I love all of therm. I used to love hats as well but after I arrived here I found that nobody wore hats to church (not fashion hats anyway, they might wear beanies in the winter lol) and hats were confined to weddings. I think even wedding hats have disappeared too for a lot of guests. ah well that’s fashion for you.
Thank you for all the nice comments. I will certainly try to send photos when Seb comes.
Yesterday I spent quite a long time writing my comment and when I got to the e mail section to post it I realised that my granddaughter’s e mail had come up automatically. Usually it is mine so I had to change it. When I hit the ‘post comment’ button the whole thing disappeared, I was pretty upset about that and complained to kai. I don’t think she knew for sure what she had done, I certainly didn’t.
I just checked and the same thing will happen again, for some reason her e mail is now my default e mail and I don’t know how to change it back. Sorry Jeanne it will go into your pending again.

Oh, Jeanne, each of your hats is a joy to behold, and your color matching of the hat decorations to the colors in the dresses is perfect. I’d love to be the proverbial fly in your sewing room to watch you create such visions!
If I have to pick a favorite hat, it would be the last one (Felicity style/green and white dress) because of the beautiful fabric used in the mob cap and the because the hat decorations (apple blossoms?) remind me of the decorations in my mother’s bridal veil of 1939!
