Snaps and Shoes and a Slip for Molly

Hi everyone,
Today was one of those days when the things I did were pretty much hidden.

The dress is now hemmed… it doesn’t show, but it certainly improves the look of the dress. The snaps and buttons are sewn on the back, but they are hardly noticeable… in fact, I forgot to take a picture of them but here is the front.

The slip is made but I had the dress on Molly before I thought to take a picture…except for one with her dress pulled up.

I just pulled her hair into two ponytails for now, but I plan to braid them. I took them down because they were uneven looking.

I found a pair of red slip on shoes that I might use. I think Molly needs a pair of new white socks, don’t you?

Well, that’s it for me… I’ll see you Monday!
Blessings, Jeanne

Molly’s dress looks wonderful, Jeanne! And yes, she needs some white socks to go with her red shoes!

My first American Girl doll was Molly, and for a year or so, I would take her to work with me (I worked in a doll store!) and she would model the clothes that were for sale. I’d write a little story to go with whatever she was modeling that day–going to Grandma’s house for Christmas, having a sleepover, her first piano recital, etc. I heard that people looked forward to seeing what Molly was doing that week!!

Eventually, of course, her braids needed to be redone, so I gritted my teeth and took down her braids. I think I had to braid them four or five times to make the braids come out even halfway even!! I am so Not a hair person!! God knew what He was doing when He gave us a son!! Hair cut short, a quick comb, and we’re done!! 😂🤣😂

Very cute, Jeanne! I am glad that the dress isn’t too full, since we did not wear them like that in the 40’s, yet we did have somewhat full skirts, and yours looks perfect for Molly!

Yes, white socks for her and what else? As far as braids, well, I learned to braid on my dolls when small, and then I had a daughter, and I braided her hair on occasion, but I had no qualms taking down my Molly’s braids, since I was an “old hand” at it already! I always felt that a doll isn’t really yours, if you don’t fix her hair or change her clothes! So much for some people who buy a doll and then just put it on a shelf! How do they feel like it’s theirs? I do think Molly looks kind of cute with her hair like that!

Stay cool everyone, in this heat this weekend!

I totally agree with you on what it takes to be a true “momma” for your dolls. The only doll I have that just sits on the shelf and looks pretty is my Shirley Temple “Baby Take a Bow”. She is porcelain and seems more fragile to me. And while I do dress my other dolls (the total is now somewhere around 70+ and growing) on occasion and for occasions (if they have the clothes) I am totally useless at messing with their hair. I do comb it but doing hairstyles well, there’s a wig for that. But I do sew for them – a lot. So I guess that can make up for not being their hair stylist.

Oh, I love that, Barbara!! “There’s a wig for that!” Yup…if my own hair were that easy!!

  3. This dress is really sweet. Molly looks very pretty, and the red shoes are perfect!
I have not braided doll hair or daughter hair in ages, but I bet I still can!
    I hope everyone has a nice week-end.
It is going to be 95º in Northern Virginia and I am staying inside. Sewing, cleaning downsizing and packing. No rushing.

Molly looks very festive. I like her with two ponytails. A little different.
Sounds like it’s going to be hot just about everywhere this weekend.
    Keep cool if you can.

This dress is so cute. As I’ve often said, Molly is one of my favorite AG dolls. Some little white socks would be perfect and her slip really makes the dress look nice. I still have not mastered the knack for creating those slips even though I have your tutorial. Most likely it’s the fact that working with tulle is not my strong suit, but I really need to get over that. I don’t mind lining things with it but really working with it I’m not very good at.

At this time of year here “hot” is a given. LOL . But we are still in the mid 90s, but with a heat index of 100. I’m hibernating. I’ve been watching the weather in Bethlehem PA and their temps are near ours right now. But their humidity is lower and they at least have a break every few days with their temps in the 80s.
And their nighttime temps are in the 60s and some nights in the 50s. But a lot of people there do not have A/C, at least central A/C. I’ve been watching their real estate lately and a lot of homes on the list have no air conditioning. Here a nighttime temp can still be in the 80s but never below the high 70s in the summer so it never cools off. A/C is a matter of survival here. Some people who can’t afford the cost get donated window units and put them in the living area and that’s where they all sleep at night. At least they can sleep doing this.

Oops. Hit the wrong address. Here’s the right one so you’ll have me in the right location.

  6. Molly looks cute in two ponytails. A new look. I also braid hair on my dolls when young and then on my own hair. When I had my hair long I could do a French braid on myself. Then of course when my daughter had long hair I had a blast doing regular braids, one or two French braids. inside out French braids, French ponytail, ropes, flipped ponytails etc, etc. even did many of those styles on my daughter’s dolls for her except regular braids and ponytails which she did herself.
It was 92 degrees before ten this morning so after the usual outdoor kitty care I am staying in the rest of the day.

Just a quick note for those of you who might check back on the blog over the weekend.

Ron is OUT of the hospital!! He is back in his room at the adult family home, and it has been fitted with an electric hospital bed and an oxygen concentrator, as he still needs some oxygen at times. He is still very weak, and I doubt he’ll be going out for dinner with me in the near future, but hopefully I’ll still be able to get him to doctors’ appointments and the like. His next appt. isn’t for another month yet.

He lost 10 pounds or so while he was in the hospital so is down to 132 now, which really isn’t enough. However, his eating is starting to pick up a bit as his swallowing gets a little stronger. He slept a fair bit today, but it was an unusually tiring day, what with the ambulance company getting him and moving him and all that.

Thank you all for the continued prayers, and the good thoughts and encouragement. We really appreciate them!

Thank y’all for welcoming me back. So silly that tried so many things and all we had to do was get a new router for our wifi. Live and learn. I am so happy to hear that Ron is out of the hospital and will pray that he gets better soon.

I have made a patriotic outfit for my Mae and will send photos for Jeanne to display when she wishes.

I love Molly’s outfit. I almost bought her when I first saw AG dolls. She is from my era and all her extras brought back memories of my childhood.

So glad to be back on the “sofa” again, Y’all.

Sissy, you’re back!!! So glad to see you here again. Funny, how it’s usually the simple things that end up being the solution! I’m so happy you got all the straightened out, and now life can get back to normal for you.

Thank you, Sweetie! I still remember our visit in WA long ago. So glad we can keep up this way.
