If I can’t sew for dolls, maybe I can sell some…

I FINALLY heard back from the hospital about my hand x-ray. They said everything was normal looking and there were no fractures or deformed areas… Then about 15 minutes later, the doctor who had seen me, said he’d like to see me on Thursday and do an ultrasound on my hand. He said he would be pushing and pulling and bending it a little more than he did last week… eek… but he thinks maybe I have a ligament problem and he said the ultrasound would help him see if that’s true. I told him I just wanted my hand to get better so I could use it!

In the meantime, I have lost 6 subscribers. Boo hoo… I guess they were tired of looking at chickens and eclipse and flower pictures… after all, this is supposed to be about dolls. SO… I decided tonight I would do “something” dolly related… and guess what, it is? I have a few dolls I’m going to sell… and I got them photographed… at least my pointer finger still works to touch the button on my phone camera.

I have an Isabelle doll who was a wreck when I found her, but she’s very pretty now… I even found a little ballerina-like dress for her.
Her hair was a disaster, so I washed it and it was better, but it had all these little hairs that were curling up and not looking smooth. So I used a ceramic flat iron and smoothed them out and curled it under just a bit at the bottom.

Isn’t it pretty now?

She had some shine marks on her face, and I thought she was much too pretty to leave them that way, so I used some Micro Mesh sandpaper and sanded them down, then I sprayed her cheeks with Mr. Super Clear and let it dry. Then I used my chalk pastels and added the blush back in to fill in where the shine marks had been sanded down.

She has a few marks on her legs and her toes probably could use some extra Magic Eraser…

She has fairly tight legs… they aren’t floppy and it helps when she has shoes on…

She will be on Ebay Wednesday evening…

Then I decided to sell my Leah doll… she’s very pretty, but I have my dark headed Chrissa with blue eyes and my newest Kate (Kit) with blonde hair and blue eyes for my modern girls. So Leah is being rehomed!

She has beautiful hair and beautiful skin…

I’ll start off with the only real flaw I see on her and I didn’t even see it until I started taking pictures of her…

See it?

The paint has slightly faded off her top lip, but it’s hardly noticeable…

Her legs are fairly tight… but she can still stand on her own… again, especially with shoes.

All of her fingers and toes are perfect…and her cloth body is clean and in good condition. I notice no smells on her.

She has very beautiful hair…

I have two outfits for Leah… both of them are American Girl and made especially for her… this sweet romper looks wonderful on her…

The other outfit was her meet outfit. It’s a mini dress with a pair of lime green panties under it. Included is her compass and slip on sandals. I don’t have her purse.

She has a darker skin tone and she looks wonderful in bright colors… and both of these outfits are!!

Leah and what I’m including with her will be on Ebay Wednesday night as well. If you’re looking for a doll for play or to fix up, I’ve got some more coming… so stay tuned.

Thanks everyone,
I will see you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Oh, Jeanne, I’m so glad to hear you’ll have an ultrasound on that thumb area, and finally get some answers. Then they will know how to treat it.

Isabelle and Leah are both beautiful dolls, but I think Leah is truly outstanding, whith her beautiful hair!! That puts her over the top for me!

Jeanne, it’s nice to hear that nothing is broken! I had a torn ligament in my foot, which healed on its own, and took quite some time for that to happen. But it did heal even though it was an 1 inch tear, and surgery was advised. Never had the surgery, but it would probably have healed faster.

Two beautiful dolls! I certainly am not I. The market for a new doll, but I am sure you will have no trouble selling these beauties!

  3. these two will sell in a “New York Minute” haha I have never used that analogy in my life! Anyway, I guess I was just thinking about Ebay and how you can buy just about anything
Both of your dolls are beautiful.
I am hopeful for your thumb and your self that is attached to it.
Injuries are so annoying. I really hope yours can heal up perfectly

Well, guess the X-ray reading people were out watching the eclipse and couldn’t get their work done in a timely manner. That’s just crazy. But, so glad you finally have a reading and that your doctor is going to do an ultrasound. Knowing what exactly is wrong will be so helpful. Be thinking of you tomorrow.
Your sanding and sealing job on Isabelle looks professional. Good work. I’m sure the dolls will sell quickly.
Here, I had a successful dolly delivery yesterday. Although, for awhile there, I wasn’t so sure. I had a delivery coming from HK. RRFF Aurora. Of course, the time frame with FedEx was most of the day, so had no idea of the exact arrival time. We had to do some errands, and I had actually forgotten about the delivery. When we returned, I was walking up the thirteen front steps ahead of other person and there by one of the porch posts was the obvious dolly box. Horrors! However, right behind me carrying the shopping bag, was other person. Panicked, all I could do was stand in front of the post/box and hope he wouldn’t notice that box. Surely he would see it. So obvious. But, because he was carrying the bag and opening the door, he somehow missed it. Both inside and other person heading towards the kitchen, I opened the door again, stepped out, and grabbed the box from it’s easily seen location and pulled it beside the door. No time to try and park it under the bench as other person would have easily seen that move from the kitchen window. Back inside, I could not think of any way to get the box inside safely. Other person was parked on the couch near the door, and it was getting close to the time to leave for my eye appointment. No way to get that box inside safely. Then, time to head out. My mind twirling, I came up with a plan. I went out the door first and stood in front of the box while other person locked the door. Then, I feigned searching my purse for my phone. Other person started down the steps. Part way down, I called to him that I was missing my phone. He was just below the sight line so I grabbed the box and put it in front of me by the door while pulling out my keys to get back inside. I dropped the keys in my flustered moment. Somehow grabbed them and got the door open. Other person was now getting in the car. Bent down and picked up the box and went inside. Took that box immediately to the secret hiding place, came back, went out the door, and locked it. Down the steps and into the car. Told other person that I had found my phone. Other person didn’t notice anything. What a lucky break. Dolly remains in hiding, but hopefully, she will climb out of her box and join the others soon. 🙂

Joy, thanks for the story, I love reading your cleverness at getting the box past your “other person”. It really is too bad you can’t save these stories to show him someday when you both are old and could handle it.

Jeanne, Relieved to hear that you are not dealing with a fractured thumb. However I am finding fractures heal more quickly than torn tendons and ligaments. Isabella, the ballerina, looks ready for your prime time showing tonight on eBay. Some lucky buyer will snap her up.

Speaking of dolly rehabilitation; has anyone had an issue with loose limbs on a Effner Little Darling? I have dressed and redressed my Abigail so many times that her left leg is feeling very loose. This has not been an issue with other types of dolls because I knew where to send them for tightening. Even Ruby Red Toys has announced the opening of a doll hospital. Suggestions are welcome.

Another delivery caper from Joy! Always a fun read and so glad to hear of a successful ending. I haven’t purchased one since Constance but Eden did call my name on Saturday. I love an Alpine folk costume.

Happy midweek everyone. Stay safe in the latest round of storms to hit the southeast. We are braced for tomorrow.

Thank you Jeanne! You are a “dollsaver”! I was very distraught because I love to dress the Little Darlings and they cost a mint.
I haven’t tried it yet but have bookmarked the tutorial. Yes, there will be a run on these rubber bands in my small town!

Some dolly mothers are going to snatch up these beautiful dolls quickly I’m sure. What wonderful doll restoration, Jeanne. I wouldn’t know where to start. I’m not in the market for any 18″ dolls but if I were these two would certainly be up for consideration. Nice outfits too.

Another successful episode of Dolls of our Lives. Good job, Joy!! Nice to know you haven’t lost our touch.

Boy did we have a storm last night. It woke me up at 2:15 a.m. Tons of thunder and lightning. The lightning was flashing so often I actually thought at first it was the strobe of an emergency vehicle. I went to the kitchen to check the weather on my phone and saw most of the worst was to the east of us. If what we got was not the worst, I’m glad we didn’t get the other. I noticed that a light was on in the garage so I went to shut it off and realized the garage door was open. When the storm came in evidently it caused a power glitch and it opened our garage door – which I know was closed because I checked before heading for bed. Then I noticed my alarm clock was flashing. The storm lasted for about two hours off and on – actually more on than off. I was glad when it stopped so I could get back to sleep. There was a possibility of hail and tornadoes. David slept through it all. I don’t know how he does that.

  7. Jeanne I am so very sorry to hear about your hand. I pray it heals and you are able to get back to your beautiful sewing you love so much. I always look forward to seeing your creations. God Bless

  8. Glad that you finally had the hand checked out and it’s been taken seriously. I had been losing feeling and control in my left hand it was even “wasting away”and my doctor didn’t seem concerned. When I saw another filling in doctor at the same practice and I mentioned my hand again, he ordered X-rays, then EMG (very uncomfortable) and I ended up having surgery on my elbow because a nerve had become pinched! I experienced no injury or anything so since you fell and there was some kind of injury I’m very glad you’re having serious attention given to it.
Both your dolls are adorable and new homes will come quickly. I really like Leah’s sandals. As soon as your hand recovers I think copying them would be wonderful. Maybe a ribbon or leather loop in the back to hold the elastic? Just saying, when the cobbler is back . . .
    Have a great day all.
P.S. instead of group suggestion while you’re working on an outfit how about a wish list project using pattern and dolly pictures? Remember when you recreated the blue and tan dresses from the photo someone sent. I think early 1900 era.

  9. Good to finally get some answers on your thumb. Yes, from what I’ve heard torn ligaments and tendons take a long time to heal.

Both of the dolls are very pretty and I remember both for a certain reason. Isabelle was the the GOTY when I joined the doll boards, so she was the first I got to participate in discussions about her instead of just seeing the doll in the catalog/online. Lea was sold at the Kohl’s right outside of town so I got to see her and the Wellie Wishers prior to finally getting to our AGP store which of course is now gone. I have been to the original Chicago store back when Kirsten and Felicity were still on the floor..

Nice dolly save, Joy! You haven’t had a caper in a while so glad this one was successful.

  10. I enjoyed seeing the eclipse pictures you posted yesterday, Jeanne, and Laura’s also.
Glad your doctor is also closely looking at your hand too.
Your two girls are very pretty. Isabelle’s face really looks nice and both girls have beautiful hair. I think you work magic on the dolls you come across second hand.

Joy, I love your doll delivery stories! This one was genius! When you write them, I always hear the Mission Impossible music!
    Fast work always.

    1. Joy in northern CA

Haha, I do think I heard that music when I dropped the keys while trying to get the door open again and stash the box before other person looked up from the car. Thanks. 🙂

Jeanne, I am so glad you are going to get further info about your thumb. Who knew how falling out of bed could cause such a mess. I know you will keep us posted and prayers will continue.
