Glitches even happen to doll blogs, I guess…

Hi everyone,
I’m so sorry my post wasn’t able to open for you Wednesday. It wouldn’t open for me either, so there was nothing I could do. Karn looked at it and decided it was server issues, so I just decided to wait it out, and when I checked again later in the afternoon, it was working again. I am going to call and see what the problem was. It was a little alarming to me, and I’m sure it was to you too. There wasn’t any way for me to let you know things were a bit wonky.

I’m not sure why, but the ladies who read my blog from their email, and not off my regular website, seemed to be fine… They commented about the pictures of all those dresses, telling me about their favorites. So again, I’m sorry about that… I wasn’t able to attend to it today, because we were heading out the door when I did discover it… We went to Cape Girardeau today and made it an all day affair…

I think we hit every thrift store in Cape, and Rebecca even discovered a new one that turned out to be the best of all. It was huge and the prices were very good. Rebecca had a stuffed bag full of stuff she thinks she can resell. I found some extra things for the baby shower this weekend, and my hubby found some things he uses for his business…and it wasn’t even a tool!! :o) I think Karn found a few things too, but I don’t know what they were.

We had a few “moments” in Cape today… Karn and Rebecca wanted to go in a shop, so we let them get out and we stayed in parked car, just a few stores down from the one they went in. After a few minutes, we noticed a guy standing outside the door of that shop. He had no shirt on and was waving and calling out to the people and cars as they drove by. He had a bouquet of flowers in the other hand. He had on a pair of shorts and shoes but that was it… After a few minutes of watching him, Rebecca called me from that shop and asked if we could come around the corner of that shop and pick them up…the owner said they could go out his back door. The manager of that shop said that man had been harassing customers and yelling at them if they went into the man’s shop. The man had called the police about 30 minutes earlier. Rebecca ended up calling the police again and told them what was happening too. We pulled out of our parking spot and drove right past the man in front of the shop. He yelled something at us and gave us the peace sign… Kind of strange, we thought. So we pulled around the block and found the stairway Rebecca said they would be coming out of. We parked the car and waited for them. As we sat there, a man started walking toward our car, with kind of a funny grin on his face and his fingers kind of waving like. When he got to the car’s front headlights, I told my hubby, as quietly as I could, “ROLL UP THE WINDOWS!!!” He did instantly and when the man came to my hubby’s window, my hubby waved to him and said “No!” and started the car… Then he walked on past our car… I’m sorry, he was really scary looking to me… and I’m sure he was wanting money… But we were on the back side of this building and he caught us both by surprise…

So when Rebecca and Karn got to the car, they had their story to tell about the man in the front yelling and we weren’t going to tell them about our episode, but on the way home we did. Karn was ready to never set foot in Cape again…

We had a nice lunch and decided to head toward home… We were at the last stoplight leaving Cape and a pickup truck ran through a red light and slammed into the car in front of us… right in front of us… we all saw it happen. The lady in the car in front of us was immediately on her phone and the lady in the pickup didn’t look like she knew what she had done. She was afraid to get out of her truck, because the lady in the car was SO mad at her. We waited for a few minutes but other cars had stopped, so we drove past her and asked her if she needed us for a witness and she said no… so we went on.

As strange as the day had seemed, we thought surely that would be enough drama for the day. But we had one more thing happen. We had stopped at a stoplight and some young man was riding his bicycle and coming toward the way we were going to turn. We were about 10 feet away from him and he must have hit a bump or something because the lid flew off his soda and his drink spewed all over his arm and it looked like most of it was gone. He stopped his bike and spread his arms open wide and you could just read his mind… “WHAT IN THE WORLD JUST HAPPENED???” I’m sorry, but we all just burst out laughing… It was like something on bloopers… We all tried to keep from laughing in case he saw us, but it was just so funny and I think we were relieving some pent up stress… Anyway, it was good to end the day with a laugh instead of a crash!

So that was our day… NOW to something dolly related… we gotta have that, don’t we?

I am continuing with some more DETAILS on my Doll dresses! It just amazes me what you can do with silk ribbon embroidery, brooches made from buttons, ruffles, lace, ribbon, decorated hats, felt flowers, beading and more… I hope you’ll enjoy these close up shots of some of my past work on a variety of dolls.

I will see you tomorrow!
Blessings, Jeanne

Oh, my goodness, Jeanne, when you have an adventure, you have an adventure!! Or three…..

The man outside the shop may have had mental health issues, but it could still have been dangerous. I’m thankful nothing worse happened! If we ever are sitting in a parked car, it’s with windows up and doors locked, always. You just never know. And then witnessing that accident…and after that, the soda incident. I’m glad at least there was that to laugh at!

Some more lovely details. My eye, of course, is always drawn to the lavender ones. although I do like Felicity’s beautiful hat with the green dress, and that white Regency dress is absolutely stunning.

I saw my eye doctor today–after a few days of my left eye bothering me, I finally called. It’s just an infection, and is being treated with antibiotics. At this point it’s primarily just uncomfortable.

Oh, I meant to add, Barbara, so glad your Ellowyne is there now. I’m looking forward to seeing pictures!

When I was sitting here reading your blog in the parking lot, a white car backed up and came close to hitting us! I think I am going to be even more leery of strangers in town now! That is good that you guys are getting to go shopping for fun. Nice to see the details on the doll clothes!

Interesting episode with the strangers. Around here, there are so many homeless because of our weather that we see things like that often. Most store owners have security so that is helpful. Those seeking money often plant themselves on turn lane concrete areas in the middle of intersections with signs requesting money for this or that. Then, they go up and down the line of trapped traffic hoping for a handout. Strange, but many do give them money. We do not as the money goes to drugs. They have places to eat for free. When they are planted on the sidewalk at a shopping area, near fast food restaurants, they often will have a food request on their sign. They really don’t want the food, but money, as behind bushes, there are lots of tossed food items. They always leave the litter behind. They can get help from social services and will be given a comfortable place to sleep, but most would rather sleep on public property outside in a tent because they don’t want to follow rules like no drugs/alcohol in a facility. As to the police not responding at the Cape, if it is like here, there just aren’t enough officers to take care of things like that. If the person had been hitting your car with a brick, or physically assaulting someone, I’m sure they would have responded quickly. These people need mental help, and there are not enough services or consequences to help those that don’t want it. Sorry for the rant, but it is a chronic problem in so many areas now.
Glad you found a fun store for shopping though. Hope Rebecca makes lots of profit on her finds. Very glad that the red light runner didn’t hit your vehicle. The red light runners are rampant around here. It you are first in line, it is important to wait several seconds after the light turns green to wait for those red light runners to go through. Cameras are helpful, but don’t prevent an accident. So is our world now.
All of the details on the outfits are wonderful. It’s the Jeanne Marie touch and lovely.
Took a break from the weeds yesterday and went to Costco to get gas. Prices are very high right now. I think $5.29, and that was at the cheapest place to buy gas here. How are the gas prices in your area? Curious.

We don’t have the homeless problem here in town but we are in Houston a lot and they do. There are signs under the freeways “no camping”. There is always someone seeking help at almost every stoplight. I do not give money because the city asked everyone not to. There are plenty of services for people who need help but most on the street corners have addictions and that’s what the money goes to. In downtown Houston the Episcopal Diocese runs a shelter called Lord of the Streets. For the price of attending a church service they can get free food, a place to sleep and other services the homeless might need. No alcohol or drugs allowed. Our gas around here is still between $3.00 and $3.50 per gallon and we thought that was horrible.

Joy wrote exactly what I was thinking! I might add that Carbondale has a population of 21,717, in Jackson County which has 52,000 residents Where I live in Garden Grove the population is 170,000 while Orange County, California, has a population of 3.1 million. Carbondale probably has its resident character, drug addict or mental ill resident. Multiply that proportionally and you will always find more in any larger town or city. California is ā€œhomeā€ to 1/3 of the homeless population in the entire United States, so we do have more than our share, but I still like living here better than anywhere else.

Just a couple of tips: Donā€™t hesitate to call the police as it will get more attention than just one call. Walk straight out and ignore the person. Stay within sight of other people. Never go around the corner or out a back door as someone even scarier is probably out there, which leads to being careful where you park your car. If you are alone, wait until someone else is leaving too or ask the owner to watch while you get to your car. Your horizons will shrink if you let one experience color your outlook on the world.

Beautiful details! The Jeanne Marie touches.

Texas, especially southeast Texas, must be home to whatever homeless that don’t live in California. Like you we have weather that makes living on the streets easy. In the winter when we have cold fronts come through that make it impossible to live on the streets, the shelters open their doors to allow more occupants than usual. But normally most of their beds are empty.

What a scary day you had. I’m glad you arrived home safe and sound. David and I were at Wal-Mart the other day. We had backed out of our parking place when someone backing out of another space didn’t pay attention and backed into David’s new truck. It did some serious damage to the passenger side of the bed of the truck. The insurance company of the person who hit us is dragging their feet even after admitting the fault was their insured’s. They offered David $875 to fix it and then said he could keep the check if he decided not to get the truck repaired. Obvious that’s not going to fly. The adjuster never showed up in person only saw pictures and the truck is only 18 months old so a slipshod repair will not be acceptable. When David told them the $875 wasn’t going to fly they told him to go have a quote done where he wants to have it repaired and have them call the insurance company. When David said he’d have them call the adjuster said she couldn’t deal with the body shop directly. It’s like dealing with someone braindead. They asked us not to contact our insurance company unless there was a problem. I think there is a problem.

I just love seeing embellishments! They’re all so beautiful. You have such great ideas on making hair adornments, especially hats.

I agree with Susette about the insurance. Your company should take care of all of the details.
And I was going to mention, that here, it isn’t uncommon to find a group of tents and residents that actually have propane tanks and bbq’s. Heaters too in cold weather. Crazy huh.

  6. Susette from Southern California

Barbara, call your insurance company immediately! Taking care of this for you is what youā€™re paying them for. Donā€™t talk with the person or the personā€™s insurance company yourself. It can complicate things for your insurance company.

  7. Oh my, what an experience. I am glad you got home safe and sound. Every photo is beautiful but my favorite is the green one on Felicity. You do beautiful work.

Dear Jeanne, I am glad all is well with you and the family. Oh my goodness, that is the kind of adventure that no one wants to have. I am glad that the ladies in the vehicles were alright even if the vehicles were damaged.

I am loving seeing the details in your outfits. You are truly the Queen of beautiful little touches!
