Tis the season to be shocked!

Is anyone besides me feeling the electricity in the air? I guess it’s the dry air that’s causing all the electrical shocks I’m receiving. I touch the frig and snap… I touch my hubby and snap again… It’s getting so I don’t even want to touch the light switch, because I’m getting shocked there too! And it hurts! :o(

It is 3 degrees here in Southern Illinois right now and the wind chill factor makes it feel like 9 below zero.

I really shouldn’t complain… Cindy and Tom were headed to northern Illinois where his mom lives and the temperature a few minutes ago was 14 below zero and the wind chills were running 35-45 degrees below zero! BRRRR! Now that’s COLD!

They left today and I’m trying to get all my things from the trip put away. I had a wonderful, wonderful time with my sisters and their hubby’s. We had excellent food and even more excellent fun! We always do!

So, I just have a few pictures to share today and hopefully I’ll be back at dolly talk tomorrow.

I looked through my phone to see if I had anything “dolly” related to share and I did find one picture that I think will make you laugh… maybe even out loud!

This was a picture I found on Ebay of American Girl, Felicity, and “OBVIOUSLY” the person selling her had no idea what was wrong with this picture! I bet YOU DO!
It made me laugh out loud too!

My Amaryllis finally is in full bloom and is VERY pretty!

I saw this incredible looking SAVORY roaster at a thrift store we were at and had to take a picture. I had never seen a green one like it. The tag says it was from the 1930’s and it was $65. It was spanky, as my kids would say!

We spent a lot of time in front of the fireplace at Deb’s house. Doesn’t it look cozy? It was!

Springfield, Missouri, got just a dusting of snow, but the temps and winds were insane…

Joy sent me this picture with the caption, “Here we see an abandoned Pontiac on Fremont Street after a New Year’s snowfall in Springfield, MO on January 4, 1948. Photo by Betty Love”

We would have had to stay by the fire if it had snowed like that!

It may have been terrible outside, but it didn’t stop us from going out in it… we hit some thrift shops and other places and my big haul was shoes… just like everyone was talking about in the comments from Friday’s post. I’m right there with you on LOVING shoes!

I first found the Skecher’s walking shoes and was thrilled with that… Then I found the brown leather clogs, the black leather booties, and the Croc’s at another place. I have never even slipped my foot in a CROC shoe before, but I’m a new convert to them. They are VERY comfortable. I had no idea what I’ve been missing all these years. I have them on right now and they won’t be my last.

All of the shoes I found were either brand new or looked like they had maybe been worn once! YAY!

Then on the way home, we stopped at another place and I found the suede/sherpa boots. They are fun too and fit like a glove. I was blessed to find some new things. I’m going to go through my closet and replace some old shoes with these new ones…

When we got back home last night, my hubby had made lasagna (Stouffer’s) :o) and had salad, Sister Schubert yeast rolls, and ice cream waiting for us. It tasted really good… and he even did the dishes today!

It’s nice to be back home but I sure enjoyed my short visit with my sisters! They are the best and I love them dearly!

Well, I’m going to get ready for bed. Can’t wait to sleep in my own bed!

I will see you tomorrow!
Blessings, Jeanne

I’m so glad you had a nice time with your sisters; I suppose since you talked a lot about the outings you and your sisters took, I had forgotten their hubbies were there, too.

Well, duh, sounds like someone was unfamiliar with Felicity’s accessories, and how they were to be worn!

Your amaryllis is just gorgeous; You sure have a lot of blooms!

That green savory roaster is certainly beautiful, and an unusual color, to boot! It could make a nice addition to a person’s kitchen!

What great finds you made (shoes and boots)!!

I’m getting really sleepy, so will head to bed. Our temps seem to be aiming for more normal ones, but we’ve been VERY cold around here (greater Seattle) lately. Friday night it got down to 13°, which is exceptionally cold out here. I’m thankful for my electric foot warmer and down comforter, on nights like this!!

That picture of Felicity sure did give me a laugh, Jeanne! I can’t imagine how in the world anyone would think that was a flattering look!

Your amaryllis is just beautiful too, well worth the wait. Mine is coming along, again, the other stalk is up and ready to open up soon, I hope!

Cindy’s fireplace looks so inviting and warm! I notice the art books on the mantle! I also have mine in the living room too. And the snow in Springfield looks pretty much like it does here, mostly a dusting. However it never made it above 3 degrees yesterday at the warmest (!) so the dusting is still there, along with patches of ice! And the picture that Joy sent, well, I saw that too, on FB, and thought of you, but then I saw it was from 1948!

Wow, what a great buy on the shoes! I’m lucky if I can find one pair in my size that I like at a regular shoe store! Shoe shopping is no fun for me at all!

I’m glad you had such a nice time with your sisters, but I can’t imagine going any farther north than here with this horrible cold weather! I hope Cindy and Tom make it there without any trouble!

    1. Poor Felicity! Was that a male person who did the listing? 🫣 If nothing else it gave us a good laugh☺️🤗
This cold spell is sure a nasty one. I went to bed in slippers and the sheet, a blanket, my quilted bedspread AND a fake fur blanket. It was soooo warm and comfy and yes I slept late!😍
Bonus on the shoes! Glad you like the Crocs….I have worn them forever. Started wearing them in the garden cause you can put them in the washer…. Then bought summer colors in the flat model.
Another funeral…this one is sad but not as traumatic. Guess it is to be expected at my age, 79, friends leaving us🥲

Just thought I would comment on your “shocking”. That usually does happen in winter, but maybe you need a humidifier, since that would put more moisture in the air. We have one in a combination with our furnace, and it really does help.

Very glad your sister didn’t have as much snow as in 1948. 🙂
Nice haul on the shoes. I too love Skechers. Have you tried the ones without laces that you can just step in without bending over? I see lots of Martha Stewart ads for them. After just tossing so many pairs of shoes, I still have three huge boxes to go through again to try and shrink the huge amount here. Taking forever. 🙂
And that poor Felicity. The laughing stock of the village. (

Dear Jeanne and Sofa Sisters, Happy Martin Luther King Day! I have been producing a play each year for the local MLK Holiday and it will be performed on Saturday. I am hoping that the weather holds. We are supposed to get snow on Friday night. I sure hope not.

Jeanne, I am happy that you are back home snug in your house and that you had a wonderful time with your sisters.

I guess I can add another “non” to my list. I am a non-shoe person. I can rarely find shoes that fit so I just wear my Reeboks unless I have to go somewhere fancy, then I wear flats.

It is cold here in PA. Come on May! Only 107 more days.

Cold here in SE Texas too. I watch the weather in Bethlehem, PA, and yesterday we had exactly the same temps here as they did.

  6. We had 6 degrees this morning and the real feel was well below zero. Spent time yesterday making more two insulated kitty houses for the yard for the outdoor cats we care for. Have three heated houses on the front porch with the food and water. Put out a new heated mat this morning to go with the others.
We only have an inch of snow, but the cold is far worse and lots of wind so blowing snow. Our heat inside is just not able to keep up either.
Glad to had a great time with your sisters, Jeanne.
Poor Felicity! My Felicity wants to tell her how to wear her round eared cap correctly.
Joy’s photo reminds me of the big snow of 1977.

    1. Forgot to comment on the shocking. We run a humidifier in the winter. It eliminates shocks and also really prevents you from getting colds or other respiratory infections.

What great shoe/boot finds. I need a pair of those Sherpa boots myself. I take such a common size that everything I want is always sold out in my size in a regular store so I can’t imagine finding anything in a thrift shop. I had a friend who took a size 5 shoe and she benefitted greatly whenever there was a shoe sale. Very few women wore her size it seemed. Your Amarylis is absolutely beautiful. Deb’s fireplace does look cozy. We don’t have a real fireplace but there is an electric one in our TV stand. I would love a real one but that was the best we could do and it does give a cozy feel to the living room.

Brrrr!!! In the low 20s here when I got up this morning but I’m sure it was colder overnight. Still only 25. I must confess it took me half the morning to finally get out of my jammies. I had on my fleece pjs so you know it is cold here. We set our thermostat to go down at night and I love sleeping in the cold but getting up takes a lot of courage when it’s really cold out. If it wasn’t for wanting to visit with David before he heads to his shop I would just stay in bed till the house warmed back up. Thankfully David can walk to his shop because we did have some precip overnight, still not sure exactly what kind, it looks like maybe both ice and a little snow, and the porches and street are icy. Sean opted to stay home today and I’m glad he did. This weather will continue at least overnight and into tomorrow. David and I are going for our anniversary dinner Thursday evening and the temps are supposed to be much milder by then with no precipitation.

I used to love buying shoes but these days not so much. I wear Easy Spirit Romy walking shoes and love them. They give me the room in the toe box I need and they have so many cute ones. I told the story of my dress shoes the other day. I do like to dress up for church and going out to dinner on special occasions like our birthdays and anniversary, when I won’t be wearing dress shoes for long periods of time. But yesterday I opted for warmth rather than style and definitely decided I needed to rethink my cold weather wardrobe. I need some warm boots and I’ve decided that I need to find some lined pants. Even if I only wear them a few times a year it would be worth it since these days my legs and feet don’t handle the cold well. Even what I thought would be warm enough wasn’t and I was so stiff I could barely move most of the day.

I was never a collector of the 18″ American Girl dolls but even I know what is wrong with the picture. Every time I look at it I can’t help laughing.
