Hi everyone,
Rebecca and Karn DID make it here Friday afternoon and all was well. I didn’t get everything I wanted done, done, but she’s family and I know she won’t judge me for not getting my bookshelves dusted or my sewing room in tip top shape.
Reuben was SO SO excited to see them…
Friday evening I gave her the birthday present I had been saving for her. I can’t tell you what it is yet, because I haven’t gotten a picture of it yet, but I will. But it was well received!
Then Saturday evening I was just going to let Karn open a present since she had opened one… well, one thing led to another and we had full blown Christmas that evening! It was nice seeing them be thrilled at what they received. I’ll have to tell you more later, because there is MORE to the story and I need pictures… that I don’t have right now.
Today after church, they wanted to go antique shopping in a nearby town… so we took off and went to 3 different places. Karn and Rebecca found a few little things, but my hubby and I came home empty handed… but that’s okay, as I’ve been trying to purge a little bit.
I took quite a few pictures and thought I’d share them with you for today.
See if you recognize something you used to have or something you wanted!
Anyone need any dolly appliances?
This chandelier was as tall as I was…
My hubby spotted 2 Singer sewing machines… this 15-90. I looked up the serial number on it and it was a Centennial 1951.
…and this Singer was a 128 model, made in 1949, a black crinkle. It had the strangest gadget on the front… I think it was the bobbin winder.
These dollies greeted everyone as you came in the door.
This one had the prettiest blue eyes.
Have you found something you’d have bought?
Here’s your last chance to find something! Oops! I think my hubby photobombed the picture!
Well, that’s it for today.
I’ll see you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh, my, Reuben certainly was one excited pup!! SO happy to see his girl, I’m sure!!
What a fun bunch of pictures today!! I’m still fighting this bug, so haven’t been out much at all this week; nice to have some fun things to look at. Those dolly appliances are so cute, and I’m betting late 1960s as they look like they are trying to be “copper-tone” color, which was popular then (my 1968 kitchen has that color stove–UG-LY!! 😂), but I’m sure some dollies would love to play house with that set!!
Those vintage sewing machines were really something. I’m not positive, but you could be right, about that being the bobbin winder on the front of the black crinkle machine. Sometimes those bobbin winders were kind of odd. My mom’s first New Home machine had the bobbin winder on the back–you practically had to stand on your head to wind the bobbin on that thing! Very awkward. I don’t think I ever did get real comfortable using that bobbin winder!
I think the little dolls on either end of the first dollie picture are both Nancy Ann storybook dolls. They have that “look”.
Thanks for the vicarious shopping fun!!
My Husqvarna Viking Sewing/Embroidery/Quilting machine has the best bobbin winding set-up I’ve ever had. When the bobbin runs out you just pull the thread under the foot and up to the winding mechanism, put the empty bobbin on the winder spool and push it against the winder and touch the screen that comes up. You have speed choices and you just touch start and the bobbin winds without having to unthread the machine or have an extra spool of the color you’re using. When the winder stops you just cut the thread, put the bobbin back in and you’re ready to get back to sewing or embroidering. Usually if I’m embroidering I have several spools already filled but occasionally I do run out when doing a large design and this bobbin winding set is very handy.
My Viking #1+ has this feature, too, Barbara, and I LOVE it!!
At one point I almost lost my 1+, when the needlebar bushing broke. The big sewing machine “chain” in town wouldn’t touch it (I’m sure they would have liked to have sold me a new machine), but eventually (it took a few months, during which I used one of my other machines) found someone who could replace the bushing. Since it is a generic part, it could be replaced. The needlebar, on the other hand, is a Viking part, and Viking no longer supports that 1999 machine. The first time I sat down at my repaired #1+ to sew, I cried, I was so happy! That machine is like an extension of my right arm.
Bless his little heart, Reuben is so happy to see the kids!! His Christmas wish came early!
That chandelier was awesome, lucky the person who has the ceiling height for it. Since it’s sold do you think it’ll be up for Christmas festivities? There was a rug with roses on it I’d love to have. Thanks for sharing.
Dear Jeanne, wow, what lovely pictures! I loved the dolls you highlighted. I probably would have bought the little Madame Alexander.
The antique stores had so many lovely things. I am thinking I should go out to the ones we have here more often.
I can’t wait to see your early Christmas photos.
I know Reuben is saying this is the best Christmas ever. He is so cute. He has puppy exuberance all over again. So sweet!
I’m in the middle of building my village right now so I’ll have to check out the pictures of the antique shop later. But from what I could see it looks like a great place. Can’t wait to see all the Christmas gift photos.
Late today. Looks like a really great antique coop. Did you think the prices were reasonable? Curious. I’m sure I would have found something, although not sure I would pay the prices unless it was something very special. I’m sure Rebecca was looking at that long-horned cow print. Jeanne may have mentioned before, but what address do you use to look up the sewing machine serial numbers?
Another cold day here, but we have sun so that helps. 🙂
