Presto Chango for Noel’s Christmas dress

I tried several times to log into my blog today and it seems I was locked out like Joy emailed me and said she was. Finally this evening I was able to get back in. I have no idea what was going on…

I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving! Our day was only graced by Kristoffer but we still had a nice time with him. Rebecca and Karn are coming in a few weeks, so I’ve got to switch to hyper speed.

We got a call from Rebecca in the evening and eventually she got around to asking what I was working on.
She had seen Noel’s dress and wondered if I had finished it. I showed her the picture of Noel in her fluffy furry coat. When she saw it, she said, “Oh, no mom, you need to save that for something else, like a short skirt and a blouse set, and make something else for her Christmas dress.” We brainstormed for a little bit and decided one of my felt capelets might be the best thing.

That’s just what I did. I got started on a green wool felt capelet with the edges machine stitched in red… then I added a red braided cord to tie in the front.

I decided to give it a second layer up by her neck and serve as a collar.

Then I added some handwork and decided I was done.

Noel’s hair has GOT to be tamed, but I pulled it up so you could see it a little better.

I will have to decide on a bonnet or a hairbow and get that made…

I hope everyone likes the cape better because I’ve already convinced myself it goes much better with the dressy dress.

Well, it’s time to get to bed! Thats right, Jeanne, you’re going to need ALL you have to get those Christmas dresses made!!

Have a wonderful day… and if you go SHOPPING, don’t forget to save some $$$ for the dollies!! :o)

See you Monday
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. This is from Charlotte… she said she couldn’t get into my blog… oh dear!!!

Well, I wondered what happened, as I tried to comment on Karen’s post a little while ago (it’s 2:15 a.m. PST) and I could write it but all that happened when I pushed “reply” was that the blue box turned gray. Nothing. I tried several times, even rebooted the modem! Nothing. So….if this doesn’t work here, I’ll send it to you via email, Jeanne, and you can add it to the blog when you get up! (Looks like I’m locked out, so I am emailing it to you.)

So, first, to Karen: I had to smile, Karen!! I love KitKats, too, and I love ketchup on lots of different foods!! As a T-shirt I was saw said, “I like ketchup on my ketchup!”

Well, that cape is cute, but *I* really loved that red jacket and hat with this dress! Of course, I much prefer bright colors to kind of drab ones (which to my eyes the green, although a perfect match to the print, looks drab….) But that’s just me, and of course her ensemble isn’t complete yet, so that may make a difference, too.

Our grandson Isaac, his friend John, and I went over to Ron’s residence for a real family Thanksgiving dinner. Elizabeth had prepared both turkey and ham, and Many different sides, including a couple of traditional Kenyan dishes (she and her brother are from Kenyan). Two of the residents were out with families, the rest were with us, as well as the daughter, son-in-law, and grandson of one of the other residents. There were also three kinds of pies (Katie brought two and I brought one). For me one of the highlights was getting to hold and snuggle and feed that 3-1/2 WEEK old baby!!! Yup, I got my “baby fix”! All in all, it was a wonderful afternoon.

Thanks so much for trying to talk to me and for your sweet comments, Charlotte!! That is wonderful that you were able to enjoy such a young baby! Aren’t babies the best? 😀

I like her cape, Jeanne 🙂 and thanks for sharing Charlotte’s message!!

Charlotte, your Thanksgiving turned out to be really special. Another thing to add to your thankful list.

  2. Linda in St. Louis

I am able to get on here this morning. I hope whatever is going on is resolved now, Jeanne!

We too, had a wonderful Thanksgiving yesterday with both of our children and their families together for the first time in many years. The kids were all small or not born the last time we were together, so it was a happy occasion for us! The weather was beautiful and the sun was shining! We had the most wonderful meal made by our son in law, and the biggest, juciest turkey ever! Plus I didn’t have to cook, which made it so nice!!I did make a pie and a sweet potato casserole, but none of the big stuff was done at my house, with the never ending clean up to do!!

As far as that darling cape, yes, I do prefer that to the furry jacket, but like Rebecca said, you can use it for something else, or include it with the dress. And for sure, she needs a sweet little bonnet for the new cape to finish it off. I do like the band type hat like the furry one is, for her hair, to tame it and hold it back a bit.

Finally, a big “Thank you” to all who commented on my pictures from yesterday’s blog!

You said red didn’t show up well in pictures, but I thought your picture of the red jacket showed the furry detail quite nicely. The dress and jacket needed boots for balance. The dress and cape work fine with shoes. Since switching from the jacket was Rebecca’s idea, you might let her design the new outfit. I recall a previous Rebecca design that worked very nicely. It runs in the family.

I especially like the way you decorated the cape. The curving lines of beads are just right and go nicely with the beads on the dress. I liked the jacket, but the cape has a more dainty and delicate look, which suits Noel’s size.

I hope everyone had a lovely Thanksgiving with lots of leftovers (the part many people like best because the work is already done).

  4. I like the cape with the dress. I had thought the furry set calls out for a ski theme. All the pieces are Very nice. Now something white to pull out the lace is needed.

Well, here’s what I wrote for yesterday, as I was locked out until around 10:00 last evening.
Love Linda’s great kitchen photo of the girls with the most important ingredient of Thanksgiving, pie! What a perfect table setting. Love the 40’s girls all dressed for the special occasion, and so glad to hear that Betsy, has pardoned this turkey. Such a cute scene.
“J”oyful, to still be kicking. Hope everyone is having a wonderful Thanksgiving. 🙂

I like the cape style better than the red fluff because now, I’m able to see Noel’s neck. It also seems to go better with the style of the dress. I agree with Becca that the red would go with a different outfit. Maybe a cute red/white theme with shorts and a top with tights? Stripes and dots?
We had a wonderful day yesterday seeing the grands, their parents, and relatives. As we drove up, were greeted with the front lawn decorated with a blow up turkey, white Christmas tree and reindeer. The indoor tree was already fully and beautifully decorated as well. Time to get kicking on the decorating around here. 🙂 We also enjoyed delicious turkey and sides too, for the feast, and today, we’ll be enjoying a required turkey sandwich.
Hope my post goes through today. 🙂

I’m glad Rebecca spoke up about the furry cape. I thought it totally overwhelmed the doll but was reluctant to say so. This one is perfect.

We had Thanksgiving here two weeks ago as one son’s family lives in Santa Barbara and the drive to Orange County is a nightmare on the busiest travel day of the year! Pictures of the traffic standstill sometimes even makes the national news! So all was quiet but expecting the son who lives in Cypress, Texas, and family for ten days at Christmas. So we, too, will all be together for the first time in several years. Hope everyone had a lovely Thanksgiving. 🦃🥰

  7. We too had a wonderful Thanksgiving. My son and daughter-in- law out do themselves every year. The grands are now between 16-27 so they actually sit with the older crowd and we had lots of laughs We are blessed with good cooks so I’m still full…but did have to have a few bites of Pecan pie for breakfast.🤭
The felt cape is just the best accessory. All of what was mentioned above apply. You will find something to go with the red jacket. Maybe something Santa themed with candy canes? Is it big enough for a Little Darling? She may be a better size and not be overwhelmed by the fur?
Sewing today. I had to take my Bernina in… I was scared it may have an electrical issue but just a bulb and they didn’t even charge me to check it and replace it. Pays to have a good dealer☺️

  8. I never had a chance to check in yesterday, but I hope everyone had a lovely Thanksgiving. I too would have chosen the word Love- God and Jesus’ love for us, love of pets, and family. I enjoyed seeing your photos, Linda. You had a lovely table spread. Liked Betsy with the turkey. Turkeys pardoned here as well as we are pescatarians and have salmon or some sort of white fish with all the regular sides for Thanksgiving.
The green cape is so, so much better than the furry jacket. I commented Noel looked warm because I didn’t want to be critical. The green cape looks so sweet with the dress and shoes., far more elegant.

I was sure glad to see my comment to Charlotte go because I’ve had the “lockout” problem a couple times and know what that feels like. I’ve got to where if I write anything long, I highlight and copy it before trying to send it in case it doesn’t go and I need to send it later.

I love the furry jacket and hat but love the cape too. My tastes are definitely wide and varied so for me almost anything works. But I did think Rebecca had a cute idea for the red furry jacket and hat.

It was fun reading all the things my sofa sisters were thankful for using their first initial. Dorothy really had an advantage with her “D” for daughter and doll. “B” was a little harder. Even babies didn’t work anymore since my youngest grandchild will be three in a couple months and he is definitely no longer a baby. He has no trouble keeping up with his older siblings (13 and almost 12).

For the first time in years we belong to a church that has a Thanksgiving Eve service. Susette mentioned a traffic nightmare and our experience was certainly that. Even though we have a church closer to us, we go to a church in Katy where Sean lives so we can have Sunday lunch with them as much as we can – not to mention more restaurant choices and ability to run errands at places we don’t have here. It usually takes us 30 to 40 minutes to get to church so we left at 6:15 pm for a 7 p.m. service. We should have arrived in plenty of time. Not!! We live on I-10 west of Houston and traffic was so horrible going into Houston that we arrived at church a half hour late. Being late is one thing but being a half hour later makes it look like you have the wrong time for the service. We sat in the back so no one really noticed, except the priest and the others serving at the altar. We’ve gone into Katy on Christmas Eve and never had any trouble but I guess with the exception of those going to church on Christmas Eve everyone else is where they want or need to be. But singing in the choir I’m sure we’ll have to be there plenty early on Christmas Eve so there may be some margin of error.

We had a lovely dinner at son Sean’s yesterday with our other son and his girlfriend joining us. One thing David was not over the moon about when we started going to their home for Thanksgiving was the fear of not having any leftovers. There was so much food and the turkey was 21 lbs. so we all went home with leftovers for another meal or two. My grandson Skyy (13) loves to cook as does both his parents. He made a delicious cornbread that was more like cake. It was so moist and delicious, and we were lucky to be able to bring home a couple pieces.

Loved hearing about everyone’s wonderful Thanksgiving. Now the fun begins. Preparations for Christmas.
