Someone got a new doll… not me…

We are back home from the hospital. I’m just going to share this one snippet and move on to other things. Five years ago my hubby had to have his bladder removed due to cancer. A stoma was created on his right stomach area. Probably for the last year it has given us so much trouble due to leaking urine. The surgery last week was to repair his stoma, but it had retracted into his skin too much and the doctors had to fashion a whole new stoma from a piece of his intestines. They put this new stoma on the left side of his stomach. So he has a 3″ deep hole where the old stoma was, that I have to daily pack with new gauze for 5-6 weeks, a 6″ row of staples down the middle of his stomach, and then the new stoma in the new spot. Needless to say, this was not a simple surgery, and it’s not a simple recovery.

I am sure in the coming days, I may or may not have a post every day. If there is a post, I may have had a less busy day, if there is no post, just realize my day was too full to devote to my blog. This won’t go on forever, but for a little while. (I wrote this post while my hubby was sleeping!)

Okay, enough on that… let’s move on to something dolly related…
REALLY DOLLY RELATED!

One of the Sofa Sisters was blessed to receive a new Ruby Red Fashion Friends doll.

This was the email I received:

Hi Jeanne,
Well, I did it! I went down into the Ruby mine and found another gem. 😁

As always she gets a name change and a new identity. Meet Marsaili Éilis Angharad Fairyhill. (Formerly Dorothy!)

She’s my little Scottish, Irish, and Welsh woodland girl with names and meanings to match. Marsaili is Scottish/Gaelic and means “pearl”, Éilis is Irish and means “pledged to God”, and Angharad is Old Welsh and means “much loved”.

Her little hedgehog, Buttercup, is her constant companion and loves to roam the woods with her as she picks flowers and searches for fairies.

Thank you for letting me share her.
Blessings,
Laura

Now wasn’t that a great way to start your week? I thought you’d agree!

Blessings, Jeanne

Oh, Jeanne, I’m so thankful you and George are home from the hospital–and that it wasn’t cancer again! I had been praying that it wasn’t. I did wonder, however, if it had anything to do with is previous surgery, and it turns out it did. What an ordeal you have Both been thru on this!! Prayers continue for complete healing.

I sent you the peach pie recipe and a picture of one I made a few years ago. I just made one last night, in fact, and it’s delicious!! Anyway, you might be able to use that as part of a post one day, and I do have some other pictures I might send, too.

Laura, congrats on the addition to your dolly family!! I love that you choose names so carefully, and with such meaning, too. I love names, and have about 9 or 10 baby name books–most are pretty general, but I do have a Scandinavian one, a Hebrew one, and an African/American one!

Anyway, your little Marsaili is just beautiful! I had thought to get Dorothy, also, but in the end decided against her; now I’m wondering if I should have!! Oh, well….it’s not that I Need another dolly!!

I’m sorry that I didn’t get to the UFDC sales room last Friday, which was the “public” day, but I had another appointment, and it would have meant I’d be gone from the house far too long for Ron. And…this weekend he fell twice in 24 hours–no injuries, but it took him Way too long to get up, even with my help, so we have come to the conclusion that it might be time to see about somewhere else for him. We had a long talk Sat. night, some about that and some reminiscing….

    1. Morning Charlotte,
Yes, I was planning to use your peach pie recipe this week sometime.
I am so sorry your hubby keeps falling. That has to be so unsettling.
Thank you for your prayers continuing!
      Blessings,

    2. Thank you so much, Charlotte! This is only the third Ruby that has gotten me, but I was smitten from the moment I saw her (she has painted lip creases and a darling Cupid’s bow) and had her name worked out pretty fast. PC Felicity is the only one who kept her original first and last names, but even she was graced with two new middle ones. I enjoy changing their names as it makes them uniquely mine! Like the other two I bought, I kept going back and looking at her a few times each day over a few days so I knew she was one for me.
So sorry that Ron keeps falling. That would be so upsetting. I’m sure you will find the best solution.

    3. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Charlotte, I am so sorry to hear this news. I am continuing to remember you both in my prayers. I know that your faith will lead you to make the right decision, even though it might be a difficult one.

  2. Linda in St. Louis

What a stressful week you had Jeanne! At least you are now home and hopefully, enjoying your own bed, if nothing else! Prayers continue for George that he continues to heal without complications.

Oh, I just knew who it was that got a new doll, from the background of the pictures! Yes, Laura, since that’s where her pictures are usually taken, by that beautiful piece of antique furniture! Congratulation’s on your new Marsaili! My goodness, you do give unusual names, Laura, and I wonder how you can remember them! Is your daughter’s name that unusual? Marsaili is certainly is a sweet addition to your collection!

So sorry to hear about Ron falling again, Charlotte. Yes, maybe it is time for him to go where he is able to be taken care of and kept safe from falls. You can’t be expected to do everything!

    1. Morning Linda,
We were up on the 7th floor of the hospital, so we (oops, “I”,) got a birds eye view of St. Louis.
I much prefer the “view” of my back yard!
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

    2. Thank you so much, Linda! LOL, Yes, My Victorian hall tree is almost always my background so it was a giveaway the minute you saw the second photo. The bench is the perfect place with the scrolled wood behind.
I love unusual names and yes, I do remember all of them as all of my dolls had at least a six month gap between each purchase to commit the names to memory.
My daughter’s name is Audrey, and it was very uncommon when she was born in 1989. I loved the name the first time I heard it as it was my sweet elderly neighbor’s name when we moved across the road from her when I was 12. I decided then and there it would be a daughter’s name. Didn’t know of Audrey Hepburn at that time and had never heard anyone named it before. Unfortunately, it is far more common now than either of us would like. Same with my name, my mom knew an elderly lady at church named Laura, never heard it before and I was always asked if I was named because of the Little House tv show that began when I was six! Umm, no.

  3. Jeanne, you and your husband are in my prayers! My husband had to have a stoma in 2016. So far we have had no trouble. I am so sorry for all that you have had to go through. You both are in my prayers.
I love following you on your blog.
Take care and know that we all care!
    Love, Helen

    1. Hi Helen,
Wow… I had no idea! I’m glad your hubby has had no troubles… I’m looking forward to my hubby healing and hopefully being trouble-free!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Marilyn in Colorado

I’m like Linda — I really like that beautiful piece of furniture. It shows off your dolls nicely.

I was surprised that George was cleared to go home so quickly, but his doctors know that he’ll have great nursing care and that the food at your house is better than at the hospital. They also know from treating George that he knows how to recover and that he has a great deal of common sense.

My skin doctor’s receptionist looks surprisingly like my newest doll, AG Isabel, so I took Isabel in to prove it. Everyone agreed. That a major doll company has produced a doll that looks like a real person is a nice compliment to the person.

    1. Hi Marilyn,
I saw a doll on someone’s Facebook post and she looked so much like Deb’s granddaughter, I sent her a picture.
We could have stayed another day, but my hubby was ready to get out of there. He called me. “Jeanne, Medicine Woman” yesterday.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Karen from Kentucky

Dear Jeanne, It is good to know what the surgery was for. You are both in my prayers. May his recovery go smoothly.

Laura, Marsaili is beautiful and her name is lovely. It sounds very thoughtfully chosen. I used to have a brown Angora rabbit named Buttercup. May she bring you much happiness.

    1. Hi Karen,
I have been out feeding and getting fresh water for the chickens, so I thought I’d take time to answer a few comments.
      Thank you for your prayers.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Joy in northern CA

Glad George is home and on the mend. I’m sure the first couple of days will be difficult for him, but hopefully, there is some health care provided for a bit? I know Jeanne is very capable, but having some one in the medical field around occasionally would be so helpful. And that time might also give Jeanne a well deserved break. Hope those in Jeanne/George’s church are bringing meals for awhile too. I’m sure George, is happy to be home and can eventually get outside to visit his flock.
Laura’s, Marsaili, what a wonderful name, is sweet. Her friend Dorothy, living here, is waving! Laura, my great grandmother was born in Wales. 🙂
Sorry to hear that Ron keeps having falls. Maybe having a health care person come in for a few hours a week would give Charlotte, time to get out, do errands, and maybe even get together with friends while Ron has someone there to be sure he is safe. Just a thought.
It’s been toasty around here, but will be slightly cooler today and much so tomorrow. So happy we put in that AC unit. 🙂
So, we had a bit of a backyard mystery. I went out to water day before yesterday, and found the hose had been left on the lawn. I thought that other person may have done some late night watering of his tomatoes. When I was done watering, I made sure I had the hose off of the lawn by the side of the path as usual. Well, yesterday, when I looked out, there was the hose back up on the lawn. We immediately thought we had a water thief. Happens in our area with the drought of past years. Went out and watered as usual. When I came back inside to the cool zone, I looked up racoons. And there was a pic of several playing with a hose and sprinkler. So, guess we have been having a racoon party in our backyard. From my viewpoint, since the path where I put the hose in sloped downhill, with the nozzle uphill, if the smart racoons drag the hose over to the lawn, they can get all of the water left in the hose to come out and get a drink. Good thing they don’t know how to turn on the faucet, but I wouldn’t put it past them. With the weather so hot, guess they have been enjoying some water. Not that I don’t have several water stations in the yard as well. This morning. Hose is in place, so guess they took the party elsewhere last night. 🙂 If they touch other person’s tomatoes, I can’t be responsible. Probably have to construct a large cage or something around and over them. Does George have any problems with critters getting into the garden?

    1. Joy, we have lots of raccoons in our neighborhood, a few less now though because the people that fed them have moved away. They climb the railing on our porch to try to get to the hummingbird feeders. They leave mud all over the railings. They shake the bird feeders and spill all the seed. We did get a higher feeder stand and moved it away from the tree so that ended that.

    2. Hi Joy,
Home Health was offered to us, but we tried it before and it drove us crazy. There is only one stoma care nurse in the 6 surrounding towns and trying to get help from her is almost impossible. We had them come before and I knew more than they did. We decided it wasn’t necessary… and are both okay with me doing all the things they would do.
Some of the ladies from church are going to bring over some meals…
What a funny story about the raccoons… you know how kids love sprinklers…
I also loved your last escapade. You’ll have to send me pictures of your
      latest dolls.
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. Joy in northern CA

Can definitely understand the refusal with only 6 trained in your area for care. But, please take care of yourself too. Maybe a friend can drop by and give you time to run errands etc. Just some alone time. 🙂
If, I get finished with the Hawaiian theme outfits I’ve been working on, maybe I’ll try for a pic. Way too hot to take any dollies outside lately. Our high was 101 yesterday. Way beyond my tolerance.

          1. Joy in northern CA

Wow, one nurse. Definitely need more help in your area. Thinking of you and George.

    3. Thank you so much, Joy! Marsaili is waving back to Dorothy. How neat about your great grandmother. I too, have Scottish, Irish, and Welsh. This little lass seemed absolutely perfect to have as those parts of my heritage.
How cute about the raccoons. We have three water stations in the yard as well as the kitty water bowl on the porch. I often see raccoons at dusk finishing the last leftover bits of the day’s kitty food and drinking from the bowl. Had a couple of possums also. Thrilled to have those as they can’t get rabies (body temp too low) and they love ticks and garden pests.

  7. Jeanne, we continue praying for you both. So glad he is home. Don’t you worry about the blog, we are faithful and it will get going when you are able.
    LOve and hugs!

    1. Thanks Sissy,
It feels nice to just be answering some comments for a change. The chickens have been fed and watered, the eggs collected, a load of laundry is going, I’ve boiled some eggs, made Reuben some scrambled eggs, changed the gauze in my hubby’s old stoma, made myself an egg sandwich, took a shower, and am debating about dinner.
Thanks for being a faithful reader!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Jeanne, I am so sorry to hear about all the problems your husband, George, has had, but glad to hear you are home! You will be in my thoughts and prayers as George gets better!

I love Laura’s new doll with all the pretty red hair! I had thought about ordering her but had just ordered a new Grace doll from the Virtual Doll Convention. I am trying to limit how many dolls I buy, ha ha!

    1. Thank you Terri,
It IS nice to be home… :o)
That little redhead certainly is a sweetheart isn’t she?
I have to have restraint too… they make such adorable dolls… unseasonably to want them all!
      Thank you Terri,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. Barbara in SE Texas

Doubling up on my prayers for you and George, Jeanne. He has definitely been through a lot with much recuperation to go. You are definitely an amazing couple. Hugs to you both.

Wow, Laura. You covered all my bases with your dolly name and what a pretty (colleen, lassie she is). I’m not sure what young girl is in Welsh. I’m Irish, Scottish and Welsh. My Welsh connection is Owen and Evans, my Irish McHenry and Mac an Bhaird or translated son of the bard of which one of the iterations is Ward which is my biological surname. My Scottish is Ale but that seems to have been changed or modified from something else. I read that a lot of Scottish people altered their surnames if they were connected in any way with Bonnie Prince Charlie in order to stay below the radar of those who were looking to prosecute his supporters. Since the name in Scotland is rare I suspect that may be what happened.

I found out yesterday that Betsy’s cousin Linda may not be showing up for at least another two weeks. In time for the first day of school but I’m afraid she’s going to miss the summer splash party photo shoot. I found the cutest official Linda swimsuit for her but she is slow in arriving. I’m being patient. The woman that had her for sale on eBay is in the process of some kind of construction and the box Linda is in is not readily available. I totally can sympathize with this because it was I think mid-April before I could take down my Christmas tree because I could not reach the storage area due to our construction. Since there is no idea when something will sell after you list it on eBay I understand the problem. Her present mommy and I are staying in touch.

    1. Joy in northern CA

Oh, the pool party! Can’t wait. 🙂
And guess what? I have Evans in my family as well. Mine were in Cheddar, but from Bristol, and Wales too. Might be funny if we had a DNA match. 🙂

    2. Thank you for your prayers Barbara! My hubby has been such a trooper with all he’s been through.
We are managing one day at a time… sometimes one hour at a time!
I need to get out our family tree information and find out more about us.
I’m sorry upur new Linda doll will be late in arriving to you. It’s so hard to wait on a new doll that’s coming. I hope she arrives earlier than expected.
      Thank you Barbara
      Blessings, Jeanne

    3. Thank you so much, Barbara! If correct according to a Welsh site I just checked Geneth means “girl, lass, damsel, maiden. Yes, I know we both share a Scottish, Irish, Welsh connection.
My Irish is Sharp, Gearan (O’Géaráin) and my Scottish is Wallis (Wallace), and the Welsh last name(s) are unclear because my dad failed to ask his mother. We are trying to research back ourselves, We have the places, just not the names so there is probably another I am missing.

  10. Kathie from Omaha

Gosh…Hope George heals quickly. Guys seem to have more issues… I know my hubby does too. You are a hood nurse but now you have to do the daily things that George took care of as well.🤔
Laura….what a darling RRFF she gushes with personality. You are quite the photographer too! There is something about red haired dolls that is so appealing.
Off to Costco to see if they can get these latest hearing aids adjusted. The first pair I had were pretty good and these were supposed to be better but not so much. Sometimes they don’t charge all the way and they screech when I stand by my kitchen cabinets or bathroom mirror…so annoying. Anyone have hearing aids that actually work…voices and restaurants seem to be the worst problems

    1. Hi Kathie,
I was packing gauze in my hubby’s old stoma site and he told me I was a good packer! Not the greatest compliment he’s ever doled out, but I’ll take it.
My hubby just got some new hearing aids, but he hasn’t really had them long enough for me to recommend them yet. They are the rechargeable kind and he certainly likes not having to fuss with those tiny batteries.
      Thanks Kathie
      Blessings, Jeanne

    2. Linda in St. Louis

Kathie, I have a Resound hearing aid, and it works like a dream! I got mine through an audiologist though, not from Costco. I can’t really wear a “normal” kind of hearing aid, since my hearing loss is very severe, and not too many hearing aids are made for my kind of hearing, or what little I have left!

  11. Dear Jeanne,
Thank you for letting me share my Marsaili. I’m so sorry for the stressful week you have had. What a major surgery that was and yes, a long recovery to be sure. Prayers for healing for George with no further issues. Certainly don’t add more stress by worrying about a blog post. If Marilyn’s idea of sharing dolly photos works, fine. I personally think that would be fun as we all choose different dolls and do different things with them. We could also chime in with random dolly/other questions ourselves.

    1. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Laura, I am happy to meet my new niece Marsaili Éilis Angharad Fairyhill. I will pretend that she has an additional middle name that’s invisible. I am sure you can guess what what is (laugh). She is a cutie. I am sure she is happy to be home.

      1. Thank you so much, Dorothy! LOL to the invisible name, Would it be Dorothy by any chance? 🙂 I changed all my doll’s first and last names except Felicity. It’s just something I always do to make them mine. Marsaili is most pleased to have you as an Auntie!!

    2. Laura, your little Marsaili is very pretty… but I might be just a little partial to redheads. :o)
I have a few ladies who have sent me pictures, so I have a few ideas already.
I think some slideshows might be in order too.
      Thanks Laura

      1. Thank you, Jeanne. Yes, I know why you are partial to redheads. 🙂
Great, sounds like some more dolly or other fun is in store.

  12. I’m late today –
Jeanne, it certainly has been an ordeal for both of you and George and it’s great that you are both home. Even if it might be a rough recovery, I’m sure George is much happier recuperating in his own surroundings. I’m sure you too can rest better.

Laura!!! Love your new RRFF. She’s so pretty and I love that red hair- with all those sweet curls. Her name is really beautiful and the meanings are unique. I can see you and the kitties looking at her and deciding what fits this pretty little girl. Great choices and ancestry! Beautiful pictures!

    1. Thank you so much, Paula! I thought I’d just surprise you by letting you see her here first instead of telling you about her ahead of time. Much more fun that way. 🙂 Yes, the kitties were most interested in the new little girl and she was delighted to meet two friends just her size.

    2. Hi Paula,
We are both much happier at home, but Reuben just might be the happiest of all. He was really thrilled to see us when we got home.
      Thank you
      Blessings, Jeanne

  13. Anne Coldron in Christchurch NZ

Jeanne you and George have certainly been through the mill. I will keep on praying for you both. You really do have to take care of yourself as well.

Laura your new doll is lovely and such beautiful names. Love your pictures.

Charlotte, it is a really hard decision you and Ron have to make. Fortunately I never had to make it for my Dad. He did have a few falls but at least two were when he was out walking on his own. His problem was always his eyesight, he had macular degeneration, so he would miss seeing something that tripped him up.

Laura, I named my daughter Samantha and when she was at school Bewitched was being shown on TV here, so she was always having people asking her to twitch her nose! It was even worse when they found out she had a brother called Darren!

    1. Thank you so much, Anne! Too funny about Samantha and Darren. Hope your winter has been more pleasant than our summer here.

    2. Hi Anne,
I am doing my best to take care of myself as well as my hubby.
That is too funny about your daughter and son named Samantha and Darren… who would have ever thought that might happen….
      Thanks Anne
      Blessings, Jeanne

  14. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, prayers continue. Please build in time to take care of yourself also.

    1. Hi Dorothy,
I am taking time for me… just look at all the comments I got answered!
      :o)
      Thanks so much
      Blessings, Jeanne
