My 9 year anniversary of writing this blog is TODAY! I have been so busy it even escaped MY mind…
Yep, 9 years ago, this very day, I began this journey and couldn’t have done it without YOU! Thank you to everyone who reads my ramblings each day! Some of you meet with me over coffee, some with tea, but however and whenever you catch me, I hope it brings a smile to your face. That’s been my goal from day one! I even had 5 comments that very first day! Sally was the very first one to ever leave a comment on this blog! Then it was Christine, my sister, Cindy, Jeannie B. and last in for the day was Sissy!
After the “continued” questions, I’ll show you that post again, if you missed it.
Also, today is a big day, so please keep my hubby in your prayers for this surgery.
We are still doing questions as I’m tied up for a few days… You can answer these and chatter about anything you like if you want!
Question 1:
What your favorite room in your house and why?
Questions 2:
If you have to pick any character in a book, movie or TV show, who is most similar to you, who would you choose OR if you could pick
any character to BE… who would you choose?
Here is my first post from 2014.
Hi… I’m Jeanne and I’d like to welcome you to my newest and very exciting adventure…. “I Dream of Jeanne Marie!” I still can’t believe it… a very dear friend created a website and blog for me and I’m looking forward to seeing where it takes us! I have high hopes and want this to be a fun place where you can come and enjoy some pictures and see what’s happening in my world. I’ve been making a list of things I want to talk about and show you so I hope you’re all ready for some fun. I even have some tutorials and sewing tips planned!
I’ve been sewing since I was 6 years old… and for the last 52 years I’ve been trying to perfect my skill. My mom caught me cutting up my pajama bottoms so I could use that shirred elastic at the waist for the Barbie dress I was making. I still have that dress. Want to see a picture? I guess even WAY back then I had a “thing” for Regency dresses! I think I have improved just a “little bit” and hope you can see the difference when you take a peek at this Regency dress, finished last year.
I majored in Clothing and Textiles with an emphasis on Apparel Design. I just never dreamed I’d be making and selling doll clothes instead of people clothes. I have the best job in the world… doing what I love with all my heart… sewing, and especially sewing for my dolls. I’ll introduce them all to you very soon. Thanks for stopping by, Blessings, Jeanne
I’ll see you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
Congratulations on nine years of your blog, Jeanne! That’s quite an achievement. It was fun to read your first entry. I think I came upon your blog a year or so after you started, but I’m really not sure. I feel like we’ve been friends for ages!
I will definitely keep you and George in my prayers, and his doctors/medical team, also. You haven’t said exactly what the surgery is, but it sounds like it’s a rather serious one the will keep you pretty busy for several days.
The first question is easy for me–my favorite room is my sewing room, even though it’s a hot mess right now! I’m one of those who has to have “everything out” or i forget what I have!! I’m sure if I were ever to REALLY clean it out and go thru every single thing, I would make lots of exciting discoveries!! 😂
The second question…hm, I think the character most like me (in a way) is Augie in the book Wonder. He has a severe facial deformity (which I do NOT have) and learns how to handle people’s reactions to it when he goes to a real school for the first time in 5th grade (he was home schooled before). For me, it was my size that made me obviously different (on a good day, I am 4’6″ tall), and it took me a lot longer than it did Augie to figure out how to handle the comments and stares because of it!
Before I forget, in reference to sprinkler bottles mentioned yesterday: 1–my beverage of choice is still RC Cola, only I buy it in cans now! 2–when my brother was in kindergarten (in 1952–he just turned 76) the whole clase made sprinkler bottles for their moms for Christmas; the teacher started with beer cans (which were shaped rather like bottles) spray-painted black, and the children decorated them with gold paint. As I recall, the one Paul did had some zigzags around it and maybe something else. When I was going thru my folks’ house after our dad died, I found it and gave it to Paul. Mom had kept it all those years!
Oops, that should be “the whole class”!! (I Thought I had proofread my reply!)
Congratulations, Jeanne, on your 9th anniversary of this wonderful blog! My days would not be the same without it, I have made some wonderful friends through it, and most of all have gained a precious friend, YOU! I distinctly remember you saying that you would start the blog, because we were communicating before that, and I cannot believe that I didn’t add to the comments that first day. I always try to comment, since I feel you are like a friend who “talks” to me, and it is just not nice not to “talk” to you! It certainly takes a lot to keep the blog going, and I appreciate it so much! You certainly did a giant leap from Barbie’s dress to Elizabeth’s dress!
Now then, the questions. My favorite room? Gee, I have several! My kitchen is a good start. I do so much in there and spend a lot of time there too. When we have guests, we always wind up in the kitchen. I dress my dolls on the dining table, and it is also where I sew, which unfortunately, is not too much. Then of course, I cook there too! My kitchen. Is fairly large, includes the dining area, a tv and has a lot of windows and is always such a cheery place to be!
My two doll rooms are next, and I spend a lot of time in both! They were my children’s bedrooms, but dolls have taken over now. Since my hubby and I watch different tv shows, I watch in one of the doll rooms on my own tv, and he is in the family room. I always have the rooms decorated with the various activities my dolls are doing, and both rooms cheer me up!
That second question has me stumped, because I never thought of that before, and
I need to do more thinking! But, Charlotte’s comment on her brother’s gift he made for his mother, the sprinkling can, made me think of when I was a Brownie, and we made a Mother’s gift for our mothers: a laundry basket! How glamorous! We had to find a bushel basket, then lined it with oilcloth on the inside and painted decorations on the outside! How would that go over nowadays?🤣
I’m thinking of you as I write this, and know that you are at the hospital now, and hope and pray everything works out for George. You have all of us pulling for you, whether we comment or not, and storming Heaven today. Keep strong and know you are not alone, dear Jeanne!🙏💕
Alors bon anniversaire et bon courage pour votre mari.
I will be thinking of you and George for sure. It’s good that his surgery is now going to be done this time. I pray the surgery and his recovery both go well for him.
Congratulations Jeanne on the anniversary of your blog! I believe I found you in 2015 I think? I was amazed at the beautiful and detailed clothing you made for our dolls. As well as how professional your sewing always was and still is!
My favorite room(s) are always the bedrooms. I like to decorate them with themes and I have a thing about bedspreads and the pillow shams and decorative pillows on the bed. Usually I like the guest rooms the best because they stay the nicest – not used like a daily bedroom! Hah!
I don’t know off the top of my head who I remind myself of but my traits and beliefs are this- I’m very loyal to my family and friends- I would defend them, especially my children, like a mother bear would. ( oh- that’s who I remind myself of – a bear!).
And I will stand up for any animal or creature who’s abused – whether it be physical or financial EXCEPT for mosquitos! Although maybe bear wouldn’t do that. 🤔
.
Congrats to Jeanne, on a job well done! No one else can brighten the days of so many and keep coming back for more if we suggest changes in her lovely creations. 🙂
Remember to take care of yourself too, Jeanne, we need you to be strong for George. I’m sure he will come through his surgery with flying colors and be back to his chickens very soon.
Can’t believe how my latest delivery went yesterday. I had a doll and a couple of outfits coming from Samantha’s, UPS. Well, fortunately, the strike was settled or who knows where my package would have ended up. Anyway, it was out for afternoon delivery, so after checking the Follow the Truck, I found that the truck was far away. So, we went on an errand and after returning, I decided to make potato salad. Every so often, I’d stop and go and check my package status as the truck traveled around town. Finally, finished the salad and cleaned up. I knew the truck was getting close, and I wanted to keep other person out of the kitchen so he wouldn’t look out the window and see the truck. We were both in the living room watching the news. The AC was on, but I thought I might have heard a truck. Talked louder. Ha ha. Got engrossed in a story on PBS, and finally, other person went into the kitchen to put the pizza in the oven. I checked my package status and could no longer see the Follow the Truck. Darn. Where did that truck go? Then, I saw a note from UPS, Delivered! Ran to the bedroom and looked out the window. There was a huge package propped against the porch pillar. Guess I did hear the truck. How am I going to get that into the house? Will other person see it while he’s in the kitchen? Back to the kitchen.. Pizza in the oven. Peeked out the kitchen window and discovered that it was impossible to see the package from there. Whew! So, now what? Other person on the couch. Package on the porch. Me, pacing. We had dinner watching tv. Package still on the porch. Cleaned up. Fed the cat from next door. Put out food for our bird friends. And still other person remained on the couch. I sat down as well. Other person finally got up and headed into the bedroom at least an hour and a half after the delivery. Grabbing the only opportunity for the whole evening, I opened the door, pulled in the big box, closed the door, and dumped the slightly dented box into the doll room. Other person returned to watch tv, and didn’t move until 11:00. Good thing I used that only break to haul in the loot!
Keep cool everyone.
But, you got it in undetected, Joy, and that’s what counts. 🙂 🙂
Sounds like what we always joked was a “Calgon Day” even though we never bought. the stuff.
Joy, I love your attempts to get those packages inside secretly. You are so funny!
Whew! Another successful delivery and doll rescue! Why was this such a big box? Bigger than usual doll?
Prayers for George that everything goes smoothly and he is soon on the way to recovery.
Congratulations on nine years. I joined the doll board in July so I know I would have found you by early fall of 2014. I remember that all white Regency dress you made for Elizabeth.
As to my favorite room, it would have to be my bedroom as it’s the one room I can decorate entirely as I wish and have my favorite things in there. Close second would be the sunroom with its pale Wedgewood blue walls and white trim. I call it the room of perpetual summer, but it works well to add accents of yellow, green, red etc depending on the time of year.
Not sure what book or movie character I would be, But I also am loyal and HUGE animal lover who wants to protect God’s creatures. Maybe a bit like Sara Crewe in “A Little Princess”, befriending Ermengarde and feeding the mice in the garret. I loved that book as a child
Jeanne, I was the last one on the first day? I am honored! I don’t think I have ever missed one of your blogs, and have always enjoyed them and learned somethings too.
You and George are in my prayers.
As for my favorite room it is our screen porch. We eat our meals there at least 9 months out of the year. Even in the hot weather there is a ceiling fan over head. Our bird feeders are right outside and the Painted Buntings are there from Spring to fall. We have a lot of them now that the young are learned to use the feeders. The males are so gorgeous with their colors of red, blue, green and yellow.
Sissy, your favorite room, your screened porch, reminds me of my childhood home, that had a large screened-in porch off the breakfast room. My mother moved the table and chairs out there in the spring and we ate there daily all through to the fall until it got too cold. We had a huge honeysuckle bush planted right next to it, and there were always birds hopping around among the branches. We had a studio couch out there and some outdoor chairs, plus our TV, and that porch really was an all around favorite room of ours. I remember when we would have a rainstorm, my mother hurrying to lowered the canvas awnings we had inside. Such fun memories!
🙏🏻for you and George. Keep us informed 🫶
Favorite room is our sun room off the kitchen. We are using it everyday. Has two walls of windows and a door to the patio where there is a table, chairs and a big old glider that came with the house my parents bought. The house was built in 1920 so it is over a hundred years old and this glider is 6 ft on and the back can go down to be a bed ( which we used on a screened in porch in the summertime)
Hummm book character ? That will take a minute🤔
Geez..forgot to congratulate you on your Anniversary!
I think I found you fairly soon.. I love your tutorials and explanations and picture stories. I have learned so much and the Sofa Sisters are such an amazing group! Thank you, thank you for your blog!
