This will be “Questions” week… and then we’ll get back to dolls!

I have made up some scheduled posts, so I could concentrate on “other” things this week…(I remember once before doing scheduled posts and things went a bit wacky… I’m hoping that doesn’t happen again!) I hope you’ll find something in my questions to comment about…and if you don’t like my question, bring up a new topic and I’m sure you’ll get some responses… Thank you everyone, and please keep my seat on the sofa warm! :o)

Question 1:
If you started a business, what kind would it be?

Question 2:
What’s your hidden talent?

Simple and easy peasy, right? If you want to play along, we’ll see what kind of answers we get!
I’ll see you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

1–Hmm, if I started a business….well, I ran thru some “obvious” choices–a fabric store or a bookstore, for instance–but realistically I think it would be kind of fun to be a wedding designer/planner–you know, coordinating the clothes/flowers for the attendants, helping the bride choose a suitable gown, etc. I’ve always loved weddings, and I remember when I was still fairly young, peppering my dad with questions about what the bride wore (“well, it was white”), colors for her attendants, etc. Back in the late 50s thru the 70s at least, wedding write-ups in the paper were full of details (the bride wore….her maid of honor wore…), and I devoured them! Just loved that.

2–Hidden talent? I can find typos, misspelled words, punctuation errors, and grammatical mistakes in just about anything I read!! I guess I should have been an editor!!

    Praying for you both, Jeanne.

Oops, I meant to clarify, for those of you who don’t know–my dad was a pastor, which was why I would ask him about the weddings he performed!! Some of you know that, as it’s come up before, but newer sofa sisters might not. Sorry about that!

This will never happen at my age, Jeanne, but I would have loved to be an interior decorator or designer. I have always loved to change things in a room, look at floor plans, and still do. I still look at other houses as a “what would I do with this” situation, and am always trying to improve my own house. HGTV continues to be one of my favorite tv stations, to no one’s surprise!

As far as a hidden talent, it is so well hidden that I can’t really tell you much! At least I can’t find it!!

Prayers for you and George today!💕

Linda you need to buy one of the Punch Home Design & Landscape programs. You can design the house and decorate it and also landscape the yard and see it through the windows of the house. I’ve been buying these for years and upgrading as they go along. I save the designs to a flash drive. My husband’s new venture of building houses allowed me to buy the architectural version that has lots of bells and whistles, including a pool design and fireplace wizard. All of them have CAD furniture design capabilities, but I haven’t really gotten into that. There used to be a site called Punch Alternatives where people would design things and you could download them to your design but it kept getting hacked and the woman who ran it quit doing it after her biggest contributor passed away. Some of the things are now on the design programs but unfortunately not all of them. But watch out, it can become addictive.

If George’s surgery is today, please know that I’m thinking of him and hoping for an excellent outcome. Jeanne, please take care of yourself. Hope you have a friend or family member there with you as well.
Here, we went through a hot muggy day yesterday which is unusual for us Actual clouds in the summer. Very rare. Hoping this is the last day of high heat so I can get back to that yard and ivy and blackberry clearing. It’s been too hot to do anything much out there other than water lately.
As to a business? I suppose had I taken that path, it would have been an architect. I can remember as a child drawing house plans in the street with chalk while sitting on the curb. I still can’t pass one up in a magazine without trying to change it around. Maybe Linda, and I could have been partners in the firm. 🙂

Joy, me too. See my comment to Linda. I used to spend hours in my room designing houses. One day my mother came in my room and asked where I got the picture of the lovely house. She looked closer and realized I had done it. I did it by eye and using a ruler and the proportions were perfect. It’s way more fun now that I have the Punch design program.

        🙏🏻 for today Jeanne.
There are some very talented Sofa Sisters in this group! I loved to do Tole painting and the gals in that class have remained friends ever since…we meet every month to jabber and have lunch.
But I had an idea I wanted to make…. I wanted to design a toilet paper holder that would be built into the wall and would hold one of those big TP rolls like in a restaurant. Just the slit or a small area would be visible and the roll would be in the wall. Wouldn’t that be so easy?
Poor Charlotte probably shakes her head at my posts because I often don’t follow grammar or punctuation. Linda for sure your arranging talent shows through in your doll photos😍
Barbara those two new dolls will be such ones to add!
My other person is waiting for me…must go🤭

Oh, Joy, I loved to draw house plans, too! I even used to buy magazines that had house plans (probably when I was a teen/early 20s), just to study the layouts, etc. Such fun! I did think about becoming an architect at one point, but then teaching called my name….

I guess you can see what business I would have chosen by seeing my comments to Linda and Joy. Maybe they have room for another partner. We could have divisions in three different states. I actually get to be “in the business” somewhat these days since my husband plans on building houses on our acreage in Sealy. He will be using the SIP building method so the house plan was done by the SIP people but I got to put it on my computer using my Punch Architectural Program and David refined it and then had the design enlarged and copied and sent off to the SIP people for doing the plans he needs and the costing. I have done so many designs over the years of my own plus I used to buy floor plan books whenever we would go to Lowe’s. They don’t carry those books now but I have so many of them I don’t need more. I duplicate the plans with my program and decorate and landscape them. Since I’ve been collecting dolls I use them in creating scenarios and designing houses for them and their families.

Speaking of doll families. Betsy McCall’s cousins Barbara and Linda will be residing shortly in my dolly room. I’ve been collecting the “Welcome Back Betsy” clothes and ran across Barbara and Linda and couldn’t resist. Barbara wears Betsy size clothes and Linda fits the 10″ Ann Estelle clothes and patterns.

Also I was going to tell everyone who bought a Mini Sara about these adorable shoes that fit them. I have a Kruseling doll and tried her shoes on Mini Sara and they fit perfectly. Sadly I got them from an Etsy shop in Russia that is not on Etsy anymore and the ones I’ve found on Etsy now aren’t all that cute.

Praying for a successful surgery and quick recuperation for George. Also praying for a good deal of stamina for Jeanne. Big hugs to both.

Of course, Barbara can join the firm. I would be delighted and Linda, probably as well. I’ll bet we would have a great following. 🙂
Speaking of Betsy McCall, I also have Barbara and Linda, as well as Dru, and Friend Jimmy Weeks.
Good to hear that the Kruseling doll shoes fir mini Sara. I didn’t think to try them. The Kruselings are 9″, I think, and Sara 8″. What about the Little Charming dolls 8″ and Lil Dreamer dolls 11″? Wonder if their shoes/clothes would fit mini Sara and the Ten Ping group?

      1. Barbara in SE Texas

Thanks for the invitation to join the firm. I know we’d be a great success. I had no idea you had Barbara and Linda. Didn’t see the others you mentioned but Nosey was there but I thought I’d better quit for awhile. I ordered several of the outfits for Betsy and found two for Linda. The shoes I bought from the Russian shop (I can’t remember the name but I think you’d know it because some of us bought things from them) fit Mini Sara perfectly without falling off. I didn’t try the Little Charming/Heartstring shoes but I’m pretty sure the L’il Dreamer doll shoes would be too big and I didn’t think to try the Kruseling shoes on any of my other 8″ dolls but I think they would be too narrow. Mini Sara was wearing one of my Ginger dresses from Ginny Doll Creations and it fit fine, maybe a little lose around the waist but not much, but you have to check out that shop and see if she has any more of the adorable short sets. I’ve bought them for Ginny, Ginger, Shirley, my two Paola Minis and I bought two for Mini Sara and she looks absolutely precious in them.

Ha, ha, I am sitting here reading about all of us, Barbara, Joy and I having a Decorating, and Design business! Well, we can dream, can’t we? I’ll have to look into that program, Barbara, but then what would I do with it? I think my next stop is a retirement home!😊

    1. Barbara in SE Texas

Just in case, you can take the program with you to senior living as long as you have a computer. As for what to do with the program all I can say is if you ever get one (they have several) you will have a lot of fun coming up with things to do with it. You do the design in 2D and then view it in 3D and it’s amazing. You can do a walk through and it’s like being there. There are different price ranges so you could buy a cheaper version to see if you like it. When I started out that’s practically all they had unless you bought the professional version. But after I started with a basic version I wasn’t satisfied until I had one that would do more. With the less expensive versions you get items like pools that are already created and you just drag and drop. With the architectural version I can now create any kind of pool I want but I’m still trying to figure out how to create it, save it and get it into my home design. Still working on that.

    2. Joy in northern CA

I don’t think you’re quite ready for the retirement home. How would you do photos of your dolls there?
I don’t think my design influence would go over too well. It is not pulled together like yours. I remember years ago that I draped the bathroom ceiling with gathered fabric on rods. It lasted about a week when other person put a stop to it. I liked it though. 🙂

    Dear Jeanne, prayers continue.

Dear Sofa Sisters, I would open a tearoom, no surprise there (smile). All of you decorators could collaborate on its design. Of course, there would be an area where guests could place their dolls so that they could take tea too!

    1. Joy in northern CA

Oh yes. Staging areas with props for the dollies to be photographed. How fun. 🙂

    2. Barbara in SE Texas

It would be a good excuse to visit PA. Maybe I’lll fire up my home design program and see what I can come up with. Never tried doing a business but it should be fun.
