DON’T FORGET: Ruby Red Fashion Friends Doll set, “4th of July Fever” ends this evening on Ebay. If you haven’t seen it, check it out by clicking the picture at the right side bar or you can click HERE.
I worked at the Food Pantry today and it cut into my evening “sewing” time… I’m not complaining, but just wanted to let you know I “almost” “nearly finished” “just needed a little more time” and I would have been able to finish Ruby Red Fashion Friend, Violette’s, skirt! Maybe if I had not fixed any dinner (spaghetti), I could have gotten it finished, but it’s okay… I’ll get it completed fairly quickly now!
I wanted to see if I could turn this into a cute little skirt, instead of adding the bib, and I think I succeeded. The reason I can’t stay up late is because I’m going with some ladies Saturday morning to a Honey Bee Festival about an hour away from here, and I have to get to bed. I’ve never been to a Honey Bee Festival before, so I’ll have to take some pictures and share with you, what it was like… :o)
Okay, back to Violette’s skirt. I wanted to make it the way I did my rompers, where it closed underneath and then the front of the skirt flipped up and covered that part. I did it with velcro… one piece on each side that hooks together and then the yoke of the skirt is folded up to cover the “not so nice” parts. Like this…
…so it looks like this now…
Snaps and buttons will go where the pins are right now…
I debated about possibly putting buckles on the sides where it flips down, but a small buckle might drive the winner crazy… so snaps it is!
Here is the back… nicely topstitched using my Singer Featherweight sewing machine. I’m LOVING that thing! I’ve made the jeans and this skirt using the Featherweight for everything except when I had to serge something.
Here’s another closeup of it…
…and one more of Violette, just because she’s so cute!
Well, I really do have to get to bed…
See you Monday…
Blessings, Jeanne
I see you have another bid on Fourth of July Fever!! Yay, Jeanne!
This skirt (skort? can’t tell if it’s divided or not) is turning out really cute. I agree, it’s really too small to do buckles on the sides; that might work for the American Girl dolls, though, as they are a little bigger.
I finished the nightie I was making for my sister-in-law (we’ll be seeing them Tues. and I’ll give it to her then), and have picked up the one for me again. Tonight I got the front skirt gathered and pinned to the front yoke. Small progress, but progress just the same.
Russell is settling in nicely here, although he did rather hint that he could use a short-sleeved t-shirt now, since it got to 80 here today! I’m sure I have “a few” pieces of boy print cotton interlocks left from sewing for a son, 4! grandsons, a great-grandson, and 4! nephews over the years!!
That skort is just darling, and I bet it will be done in no time! I love the way you fixed it to close up, genius, Jeanne! At first I thought it would look too bunched up in the front, but no, it looks very smooth and fits so well! Now, what color buttons? Probably would be good to have some that would go with a variety of tops, so maybe whte, although colored ones could be cute too, since the blouse has various colored dots. It clearly looks like a skort to me, not a skirt!
I am anxious to see what a Honeybee Festival is all about. My grandmother raised honeybees and I remember eating honey right off the comb!
My goodness, Charlotte, you certainly do have a lot of boys in your family!
Yes, we do, Linda! That’s probably why most of my dolls are girls!! (on the other hand, I have no skill with hair whatsoever, so it’s probably just as well I didn’t have a girl!! 😂)
Dear Jeanne, you will be finished in no time. Violette is such a wonderful model. I can see that she is well behaved.
I love the velcro closing in the back. I always vote for ease of getting doll clothes on and off.
I echo Linda. I am looking forward to hearing your bee story.
Such a clever way of closing the skort. It is so “finished” looking and clever. She is a great model…looks good in everything.
Enjoy your day at the Honey Bee Festival!
How interesting. I was just watching a program on how someone is making hives from old logs. Much more natural and humane according to them. The old box hives apparently have a very high mortality/disease rate while the logs have some bees that can live for years. I’m sure it will be a fun adventure.
The outfit is cute. Can’t wait to see if finished. Glad your Featherweight is treating you right. I’d love to see how you cleaned and oiled your machine. 🙂
Hope those in the hot zones are keeping cool. Have a nice weekend everyone.
Ten Ping’s little set seems to be a bidding war between two bidders with one stray bidder in between. It will be interesting to see which of the two win or if someone else does.
Violette’s skort is really cute and goes so well with the top.
The Honey Bee Festival sounds like great fun. Just saw that Ohio has one as well. I love bees and plant flowers to attract them. They were all over the catmint this morning.
