BEAUTIFUL flowers from Kathie…

My day was too full; too full to even get a headband made for Freida… (maybe tomorrow) so I was happy to see these pictures from Kathie… I think you will be too! She has QUITE the green thumb… unlike me who doesn’t! It was such a pretty day out today, I decided to share a little sunshine and “prettiness” with everyone… Kathie will narrate her pictures. I’ll get back in my sewing room Tuesday… :o)

My hostas… they are so happy!

My mom planted this in the mid 1970’s

This one is called Montezuma… was my Dad’s favorite.

This one smells amazing!

Some double petunias… Hope I can keep them blooming.

Mike saw this on Pinterest and made it years ago…

Hope these get bigger and fill in☺️

Japanese Iris’ are too thick so not blooming much🥴

Old fashioned climbing rose on the old clothesline pole.

African violet that seems very happy!

The red and white rose is called Double Delight.. not sure if it is because of the bi-color or because it is pretty and smells heavenly.

Mikes pole with flowers on it

Last peony to bloom…

Have lots of this color…

Best peony color😉 (I totally agree Kathie! Mine too!)

Has a big yellow center

The Begonias on the same plant… one single… one double😵‍💫

Thank you Katie… Your yard must be SO colorful… this is pathetic, but I wanted to take some flowers to my mom and dad’s grave today and I had nothing blooming right now… but fortunately my Magnolia tree was blooming, so I took some big green leaves and a bloom that might come out tomorrow…

Your flowers are just beautiful… thank you SO much for sharing your yard with us!

See everyone tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Wow, Kathie, your yard looks amazing!! You must really have a green thumb!! (Mine, on the other hand, is probably red–the opposite from green on the color wheel–because I seem to kill everything I try to plant! Well, mostly…)

My folks grew roses, too–Peace Rose for one, and I don’t recall the others. It was my mom’s favorite flower (the rose, no matter the color). The lavender one looks almost like the LaVon roses that Ron used to get me for our anniversary, usually in a corsage to wear to dinner that night. I wish they’d had them when we got married in 1974–they would have been perfect. The only lavender roses they had then were Sterling Silver, so I did have those plus white ones in my bouquet.

Your double petunia is such a pretty color!! And African violets–my mom used to grow those. Before we moved from Michigan, I think she must have had close to 20 different plants/colors of them. She had to get rid of a lot when we moved, but I think took cuttings from her favorites to bring to our new home in Seattle. Your peonies are gorgeous (we had those in Michigan, too), and it was so interesting to see both single and double blooms on your yellow begonia!! Thanks for sharing.

I’m glad to hear that some of you remembered when the POWs came home, too. It was a moment I’ll never forget.

Oh Kathie, what a beautiful yard you have! To see all those beautiful flowers when you wake up each morning must be quite the delight!

Jeanne, we can’t do everything, and I want you to know that you certainly have sewing as your “gift”!

Kathie, that pole with tipped containers that you found the idea for on Pinterest, well, how do you water that Kathie and keep the water in the container? I have a friend who bought one like that, but she couldn’t keep things watered well. It certainly is a cute planter!

I love the picture of your white picket fence with hostas and then the climbing roses growing up the pole! My childhood home had a pretty fence like that with pale pink climbing roses, and they have always been my favorite.

I am guessing that you have no problem with deer! Since we live in an area next to woods and golf course, we have had more deer coming around for “snacking” each year, as the area grows, with more housing taking up their habitat, so I have to be careful of what I plant.

Your peony’s are spectacular! Those begonias are too, and I have planted some but due to those little chipmunk creatures who find them tasty, they have quite a way to go before they look like yours!

Thank you so much for sending the pictures to Jeanne, and to Jeanne for showing them!

    1. We all have our own “talents” and you are so gifted😉 We all enjoy your pics so much. The pots on the pole have a liner in the bottom of each one but they do leak a bit to the one below it. You are right…no deer but rabbits, and the blankety-blank Wood Chucks! …and raccoons.😲

It’s fun to see your flowers, Kathie! We have some hostas and peonies, too. I love how peonies smell. Beautiful roses and lovely statue of Mary! Thank you for sharing!

Okay, Kathie, where are the weeds? Your garden is lovely and the grass so well kept. My favorite photo is the first, with the hostas and gazing ball against that lovely white fence. Beautiful. What a wonderful variety of color. Thanks so much for sharing your yard with us. It’s beautiful. 🙂

    1. Oh there are weeds but I mulch heavily so that keeps them away …mostly. We catch the grass when mowing so we pile it around any bare ground and under the plants☺️…and my daughter comes and helps weed too.

I remember when we lived in PA my parents would go out in the spring and do their gardening. They would mulch and then cover the mulch with cocoa bean shells and they didn’t have a weed all season. And the smell of the freshly laid cocoa bean shells was heavenly. Here we even bought ground cloth and the weeds managed to migrate to the holes for the plants and grow profusely there. Trying to weed around the base of a rose bush, even with gloves on, is no fun at all.

  5. What a beautiful yard! Thank you Kathie for giving us a tour of it. I especially like the first picture of all those various plants arranged up against your white picket fence. And your flowers all look so pretty and healthy.
I admire anyone with a green thumb.

Jeanne, I’m with you and Charlotte- there’s no green thumb on either of my hands. However, I do love and appreciate flowers.
My husband likes to grow plants and small trees that blossom with flowers – more like bushes grown like trees actually. He built a large stand where he grows vegetables and enjoys taking care of them. He is also successful with growing grape vines along side our house. The vines snd leaves are quite thick now . Recently, he discovered he had a visitor- Mrs. Mourning Dove. She chose a space way inside the thick leaves to make a nest. You can barely see her sitting in there.so she is well protected. We are happy she chose the safety of the our vines.

    1. Thanks Paula…loving flowers is good too and it sounds like your hubby does a great job with the plants and trees in your yard🤗

Dear Jeanne, thanks for sharing Kathie’s flowers. They are beautiful. She certainly knows her way around the garden.

Well only two days left in my favorite month. I will have to plan something special to do in June so I won’t feel so sad.

Ah yes, June 10 is World Doll Day! That’s special. Our Doll Club is hosting a tea on that day. Okay, now I feel better (smile).

    1. Gosh…May is the best…that is why my flowers look good but June is good too☺️..and yes Doll Day. We must celebrate!

Beautiful pics! A lot of work they’ve put in maintaining. Just lovely. Thankyou.

What a beautiful yard you have, Kathie. I like your gazing ball and little birdhouses on the fence. i have a gazing ball as well (purplish blue glass) and I love how the flowers are reflected in it. Your roses are spectacular. I love roses! My grandmother had a rose garden as well. I helped with everything when I was there. She taught my mom and my mom taught me. I like the water can and pot tower your husband made. Thank you for sharing your lovely yard.
I agree with you and Dorothy in PA/World, I love May, but also June.

    1. Thank you for the very nice comments. 🌸 My Mom lived here before we bought the house after she passed so some of her plants and bushes are still here. The early Wood Peony my brother gave her in the early 70’s. It blooms near Mothers Day.🤗

Oh, Kathie, your yard is so beautiful. Your peonies are so pretty and your roses lovely. They remind me of my mother. She once had a rose garden where she grew Jackson & Perkins tea roses. Our house always had vases of cut flowers around in the spring. I love the watering can and pot tower. It is so cute and clever. I’ve never seen anything like it.

I have nothing close to a green thumb. My son seems to be the one that inherited that gene, probably from my mother. I have trouble keeping houseplants alive. David once told me he bought me plants because he wanted them to last longer than cut flowers. He never defined “last longer” but I said so you buy me plants so I can kill them. But it does take a little longer.

My neighbor down the street has a front yard full of flowering plants but she has them in containers so the moles don’t get at them. But they have to water them every day when it does not rain. But it is their hobby so they totally enjoy doing it. They get out in the early evening when it at least cools off a little and they have flowers all summer.

    1. Awe thanks for all the compliments. I wasn’t going to do anything except a couple tomato plants and big pots this year but my daughter had other ideas so I’m glad she pushed me to plant more. Not having a green thumb isn’t all bad…it makes your life simpler🤭👏besides… you keep very busy with your dolls! Notice I haven’t shown any😲🤔

    2. Joy in northern CA

When you mentioned the moles, I had to tell you this. Yesterday, our neighbor came up our steps with her sweet little dog Winnie. Winnie was carrying something. It was a mole she had just caught out by the street from our lawn. She is one fast pooch. Guess it must have surfaced, and she spotted it. Of course, we had to praise Winnie for her catch. Funny, but she loves moles and apparently will eat them too, ick! But, won’t eat gophers. Other person says that I screamed when I saw it and ran towards the house. Oh well. 🙂

      1. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Joy, hmmm, it sounds like Winnie would serve as a great distraction for when you are expecting an, uh, special delivery. I say you invest in some doggie treats (smile).

Oh, and I would have been right beside you running towards the house and screaming (laugh).
