I worked at the Food Pantry today and then this evening we were invited over for dinner at some dear friends house. The food was so spectacular, I just HAD to show it! They are from Singapore and Sylvia’s hubby teaches at the University! Now let me tell you, Sylvia is ONE GOOD COOK! She has helped me improve making the chicken for my stir fry and it’s noticeable! :o)
Tonight we sat down for dinner and it looked like something from a fine restaurant… Sylvia not only cooks very well, she “presents” her food excellently! No throwing it in a bowl and setting it on the table…(even for her own family!) each piece of chicken is laid in a row and stacked neatly in a pile. The asparagus and beef had slices of red pepper on top and was so pretty! Then her hubby’s favorite, “Tofu Pot” was less colorful, but very tasty, with chicken, shrimp and tofu cooked to perfection!
She takes pictures of the things she makes and posts them on Instagram, just for her own enjoyment, and I’m sure to share with her other daughter out in Massachusetts.
Here are some pictures of what we had… It was SO yummy!
The “Tofu Pot!”
The Asparagus and Beef…
Here are the Teryaki chicken wings…
Their daughter, Ashriel, made the dessert… It’s called Ondeh-Ondeh and I Loved it… it was made with mashed sweet potatoes mixed with some sweet rice flour… in the middle was a bit of brown sugar, then it was rolled in shredded coconut! It was served warm and you can’t imagine how good it tasted…
This picture was taken by me… (after we had already eaten some of them…)
A Japanese friend of theirs had a birthday last week and look at this cake Ashriel made for her… it is truly a work from the heart…
16 layers of crepes, tinted with Matcha, (green tea powder), with fresh cream and strawberries between the layers and topped with more strawberries and chocolate shavings…
Here is the Matcha…
Look at these layers… isn’t this gorgeous?
Well, I have certainly been blessed with some special delicacies this evening… anyone have anything this delightful?
See you Monday!
Blessings, Jeanne
What a mouth-watering post today, Jeanne! I can almost taste everything, although i must say, my hubby would not care fo any of it! If I made anything like any of those dishes, I would have to eat them myself, plus have to make somehting for him! Talk about picky!
Imagine if you went to a fancy restaurant and ordered all that! What would the bill be??You are lucky to have such wonderful cooks for friends who invite you over!
Do you eat with chopsticks? I certainly don’t use them, but wonder if you or the hosts do. How does one eat that beautiful 16 layer cake? I can’t imagine the time spent making something like that! Amazing! Actually, I wouldn’t mind a bite or two of each dish!
Well, my mouth is certainly watering! Especially that video, with the steam rising up from the pot! Yum! And everything looks so beautiful! My food never looks like that!!
Thanks for sharing all these wonderful pictures. (Now I need to see what kind of snack I can rustle up before I go to bed…!! Suddenly I’m hungry for chicken wings! LOL)
Wow, what a presentation. Linda’s husband and I are in the same boat. Although, I have branched out in my old age a bit. Anything with coconut will not head towards this one. 🙂
Can’t imagine the care and time put into this feast for the eyes. 🙂
Have a delightful weekend everyone.
Wow!! Such a nice presentation of serving delicious looking dishes! Your friend is obviously a good cook! How nice of them to treat you for dinner.
I would have to sit with Joy and Linda’s husband though. I’m ridiculously picky. No sea food at all. Very few meats. My family’s nickname for me is Mikey, after the little boy in the Life cereal commercials. “ Hey, let’s get Mikey, he hates everything!”
I would be thrilled to be invited to this wonderful dinner! I would enjoy every bite of my dinner. I lived in Japan for three years and never was treated to a more beautiful presentation of a meal. One of my daughters-in-law is Chinese and I gave her a hot pot that she uses often. I’ve never seen the many-layered dessert in any cookbook. Congratulations on a tour de force! Thank you for sharing, Jeanne ❤️!
It took me till now to find the post. It didn’t come today for some reason.
Lucky you! ….That was one totally awesome dinner! Yes,my mouth is watering! Love it all. The shrimp looked soooooo good! Those desserts are fantastic.
So glad you had a fun evening after working the food pantry all day😋😉
Wow! That’s some food — and you are right that presentation matters. My mom was good at that. She also said, “If you want people to ear your food, put a spoon in it so people won’t be afraid to mess it up” and “Take the first slice of cake so everyone can see the inside, and the rest will go fast.”
Oh wow….now I’m hungry! I love Asian food! Everything looked wonderful and I bet it tasted even better! Lucky you! 🙂
Looks delish! My hubby is the same as Linda’s. Sigh. Thankfully my children have “branched out” (especially my son since his fiance is a bit of a “foodie”) She even has gotten him to eat tomatoes! I made a cheesecake for Easter dinner, and noted (as I usually do) that the strawberries just weren’t like they were “back in the day”. When one of my daughters asked what I meant by that, I said “it used to be that the whole strawberry was RED!” Now it’s just the outside, and it definitely makes a difference in the taste. Sigh. I guess I would have to grow them myself these days, and I’m not much of a gardener. I evidently didn’t inherit that gene from either of my parents.
