I did something VERY fun today… a friend called me and asked if I would like to go to the Quilt Show in Paducah Kentucky. Well, of course… how could I possibly say no? We left a little after 8:00 Wednesday morning and just had the best day… the sun was shining, no rain was in the area, but today was the first day the show was open to the public and they estimated 30,000 visitors were in town. We certainly believed it. It was wall to wall people everywhere we turned once we got within a block of where it was held. Did that deter us? Not in the least little bit. There were over 300 vendors selling fabrics by the yard, fat quarters, all kinds of new sewing gadgets, long-arm quilting machines, and then there were ALL the hundreds of quilts competing for top prizes… I just counted and I have 59 pictures on my phone, so I’ll have to wait and show them tomorrow, hopefully, after I have sorted and edited them.
I was VERY good… everything I bought fit in a small bag… about the size of a gallon zip lock bag… 3 fat quarters, 1 pattern and 3 pieces of vintage trim! :o)
It was fun to hear of all your memories (and purchases) of the Daisy Kingdom fabrics, patterns and dolls…
For today, I’m showing you Emmie’s new dress… you can see right away, I changed her wig… I think the platinum blonde one made her eyes look like she was an alien or something… I didn’t like my pictures of them…
So I found this brown wig and I think it will be better… it makes her look a little “softer” and more sweet!
I finished the sleeves and bodice, then hand hemmed the skirt of the dress and finished off the inside work on it. I found one 10mm wide piece of white silk ribbon and added a bow at the front of the dress.
Then I just posed her a few different ways… I hope you like how it’s turning out…
I kept thinking this fabric looked familiar…and realized I had made Nyssa one in the lavender version of this Daisy Kingdom fabric…
She was in a wedding and was pooped out after the long day! Since I didn’t have much to show today, I thought you might enjoy seeing these pictures from the archives…
I’ll see you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
I’m so glad you had a fun day in Paducah! Ron and I went to the quilt museum there on one of our trips to KY (our son was living about an hour away from there at the time) and enjoyed it very much. Would love to go back some day.
You were much better than I would have been, I’m afraid!! Such restraint!! I’m sure we’ll probably see those goodies show up at some point.
Oh, I like this wig Much better on Emmie than the blonde one. It was a cute wig, but just didn’t seem quite right on her somehow. And I love the bow that you added at the bottom of the applique; it really makes the dress complete, I think.
I love Nyssa’s dress, too! Such fun to see the same fabric in a different colorway. Of course, you know me–I prefer the purple!
You certainly had a fun day at the quilt show, Jeanne! I have never been there, despite the fact we lived in Kentucky for a year, and our daughter went to Bellarmine College there too. We have gone back and forth through Kentucky many times, but never saw any quilts! While I love to see old fashioned quilts, I Iove the modern ones too! Someday we will get there, and I hope to see your pictures tomorrow!
Oh, I can’t tell you how much better Emmie looks in the darker wig! I love it and the way the dress is coming along too! Love that bow at the waistline! Everything about it is just perfect!
That sweet dress on Nyssa is darling! I just wish that poor doll would smile! 🙂
So glad you had that great day! I have always wanted to go there, I have my great-great grandmother’s bible and it says she received it on her wedding day in Paducah, KY.
I love the new dress, going to the Daisy Kingdom store in Porland, OR was such fun. I remember buying some dresses for my 4 year old granddaughter and getting fabric to match to make some for her 2 year old sister. I still have some of the fabric I bought there, 21 years ago!
What a neat story and such a treasure to have your great great grandmother’s Bible.
That shade of blue is traditional for blonds, but I’ve always thought it looked especially nice with dark brown hair — you proved my point. The blue is really beautiful, and he fabric, judging from Nyssa’s outfit, is the perfect weight for dolls.
I love hearing about the Paducah show. Paducah was the nearest big town when my grandmother was growing up Kentucky in the 90s. I’m looking forward to your quilt exhibit.
Emmie’s dress is really sweet looking. The bodice trim and the bow are perfect. I, too, like Emmie in the darker wig- it makes her look softer but the blonde wig is a nice styled wig for a change once in awhile for maybe a different doll.
The purple material is very pretty too in that design. Nyssa’s pictures of a long day at a wedding are cute – the one with her shoes off especially! I agree with Linda though, I wish she would smile but since she was tired after the wedding, I get it.
I think our family and friends went through Paducah, Ky. on our way to a lake where we enjoyed a week on houseboats. Can’t remember the name. Our children were little and we spent a lot of time out on the water. The scenery around the lake was beautiful. I just happened to come across an old picture of some of the older kids sitting on on the side of the houseboat in their life vests. It was a fun busy week.
Wouldn’t it be cool if we could change the expressions on our dolls faces and not just their wigs? A new concept in doll making? I remember those fabric dolls that you could turn inside out and they had different faces depending on which way you turned them. Your houseboat adventure sound like so much fun.
Can’t wait to see the Paducah photos. I’ve always wanted to go there. 🙂
Marilyn, my great great grandmother was born in KY. Wish I knew where. 🙂
How fun, just saw that Sissy has KY vintage relatives as well. 🙂
Oh I so love this pretty little dress. And Emmie looks so good wearing it, especially in the brown wig. She does look softer. But the blonde wig with the pigtails would look cute with a sporty outfit.
Your trip to the quilt show sounds like a lot of fun. Can’t wait to see the pictures. I’m like Charlotte. I would have had to have a wagon for all my purchases. I think that’s the difference between buying for personal use and buying for a business. You can’t overindulge or you’d never make a profit.
I love Nyssa and wish I had one. She looks so good in everything you make her. I love fabrics that have different colorways and if I have more than one of the colors, I often use more than one of them in an outfit. Nyssa’s dress is really lovely.
