Blue doll dress… blue doll shoes, right?

I’ve always loved this fabric in my stash… who remembers this dress I made for the Kaye Wiggs dolls… Nyssa, in my case?

I thought I’d remind you, this pattern is one by Marsh Trent… of Trentsation on Etsy! She has wonderful patterns for lots of different dolls.

I’m going to show you a few of these pictures because my lighting was much better than it was tonight when I was taking pictures of Sara…

Theresa was the winner of this dress back in 2019, I think… and here is her little cutie in the dress…

Anyway, I wanted to use this blue fabric to make the next dress…and guess who got it? Yep, another Ruby Red Fashion Friend… Sara, this time…

I had a vintage hankie that had a corner done in lace and wanted to use just the lace part, so I cut around the sheer like hankie and used only the lace for a front collar insert on Sara’s dress. Like this… and then adding tiny white buttons.

Since Sara has blue eyes, I thought this would look wonderful on her.

I got quite a bit done on her dress… it’s not hemmed yet… and no snaps yet…

I did put a few pins in the hem of her dress to show something… yes, those blue shoes… but I’m not sure about them with this dress. Do they look too casual with it? When I made Nyssa’s dress from this fabric, I used white shoes and Theresa used white boots.

The leather is kind of a different blue…it’s not royal blue like it might appear… I had to look at a lot of different fabrics to find one that went with it… and this one definitely does, but I’m not sure about the style of the dress with them… Maybe I’m over thinking it… or maybe they will look better with some white thigh highs…

I laid the shoes on the fabric so you could see, but I’m not sure if you can tell…

Then I took a picture using my flash and it shows the fabric better, but not necessarily the shoes… hmmm… I’m sure I’ll hear some thoughts! :o)

Well, that’s it for me… time for bed…
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

That really is a beautiful piece of fabric, Jeanne, and I know my mom would have loved it–her favorite color was blue!

The hanky corner is just perfect as a collar on the dress, too. Very pretty.

I see what you mean about the shoes, and, much as I love them, I think you are right–they are a little too casual for this print/style of dress.

Can’t wait to see what’s next! (I see Chartreuse Fantasy has four bids now–yay!)

Good morning, Jeanne! That is an adorable dress, and yes, the colors of the dress and shoes match, but again, yes, I do see what you mean. I love that lace collar, and the little buttons dancing down the bodice, which make the dress look so delicate and dainty, but the shoes, cute as they are, don’t seem to give the same “delicate and dainty” vibe! Maybe a cute, casual, lightweight denim set would work better for them.

Sara looks so sweet in her new dress! Pretty, dainty, thigh highs would work with some white shoes. Let’s see you work your magic with this!!

  3. Here comes the can of worms . . . I like the shoes with is dress. I think blue accents on the dress are what’s called for. Maybe blue buttons instead of white buttons? I really loved the sleeves on Nyssa’s dress, the poof but then simple sleeve hem. I think blue trims the color of the shoes will be the cohesive look for this, blue sash, ribbons, blue beaded bracelet, blue flowers on a hat? I know you know . . . The lace at the neckline is perfect though. Can’t wait.

I remember that dress, because I bought that dress!

I think the blue shoes look fine with the blue dress – little girls wear Mary Janes with dresses, and these are color coordinated with the dress. White thigh highs will dress them up. But what do I know – my dolls wear boots with their pretty dresses. 🙂 Guess I have a bit of a quirky fashion sense.

    1. Ha! I was thinking if Jeanne thinks these shoes are too casual for the dress, she hasn’t seen what my daughter (and evidently others from her generation) puts on her daughters with dressy dresses – boots! Yes! For their latest Christmas photos, the girls wore dresses with sequins and boots!

Well, “Hello, Sara.” Love her in this blue print. I would prefer no buttons on the stomach and a nice sash giving the dress more of a vintage look. I always prefer shorter hem lengths as well. Even pinned up, it seems too long for my taste. 🙂 I think the shoes would work, but with lace anklets or thigh highs which would tie together the modern and vintage look. Those shoes are really cute. Maybe also worn with a pair of knee socks and Bermuda shorts. 🙂 Trying to think spring here.
My wayward RRFF Amelie, is finally here in town and supposed to be delivered today. She spent five days sitting in LA before finally being picked up. Then another three days midway in CA before finally heading north again. Love that tracking. At least she has been in rainy CA.
We’re experiencing more rain today. Hoping for a dry day soon. 🙂

  6. Jeanne thank you so much for sharing my Etsy shop for patterns. Your creations are always perfection! I left you a reply on your shoe post yesterday. I don’t know if you get a notification of a reply or just have to check.
    God Bless
    Marsha

    1. Hi Marsha,
I did see your comments yesterday and answered everyone but it was very late last night. (Actually early this morning!)
Thank you for the things you shared… I’ll keep looking at shoes and working on mine!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. The blue dress is lovely. I love blue, my favorite color. Even the sky was a lovely blue this morning with sunshine. It’s been a much sunnier winter than usual!
The lace collar is perfect. Love this type of puff sleeve style with puffs and narrow hem. Have to agree on no buttons and a pretty self fabric or wide ribbon sash. To me, all little girl dresses need a bow in back and tea length hem. The shoes are sweet, but the soles, contrasting color out-stitching, and dark blue look more casual. I think white would be nicer.

Boots with little girl dresses are definitely correct for Civil War, Victorian, and Edwardian eras.
Your doll look very sweet, Theresa. If she’s a Kaye Wiggs also, she looks more thoughtful and less unhappy. Maybe because she gets to keep the dress and Nyssa has to always give them away. Yep, that would do it!

Yes, Laura, that’s my Kaye Wiggs Missy. She does have a very sweet expression, even without smiling. I also have a Nyssa (in tan) – she didn’t get the dress because she was already wearing one made from this same pattern, only in green, that I had purchased from another seller.

    Hi Jeanne
It’s been a while since I chimed in. I love this Trentstation pattern you’re using. Blue is one of my favorite colors. I love the look and I’m really loving the sleeve. The band/cuff is so tiny and dainty, it looks so much better than the bigger bands some seamstresses use. I also think the lace and buttons are perfect. IMHO the blue shoes work wonderfully. I’m sure after adding some white tights you’ll love the way they look too. I wanted to mention something I’ve noticed on the shoes that have magnet closures. I have spent a small fortune on shoes and a handful of them have the magnets. I noticed they don’t hold well, almost like the magnet used isn’t strong enough. I don’t like the way the shoe looks on the foot. Because you can’t snug the strap down, so it makes the foot look wider and the tights look funny. The first shoes with the magnet closure I bought a few years ago have broken; meaning the glue holding the magnet in place has let go. So now I need to repair them which let’s be honest won’t happen! hahaha … Jeanne, I actually think you have a good idea with the snaps. two thumbs up!!!

What’s going on here… well still house shopping! Hubby and I went to see a two family in the country just a few minutes from here Sunday. My Dad didn’t want to go because he was losing an hour of sleep and 9am was too early for him to get out of the house. LOL Umm ok! When we got there the realtor couldn’t get into the house. The lock that the selling agent put on wasn’t unlocking. (I guess it was a good thing dad didn’t go) So fast forward to 3pm we finally were able to look at the place. I felt bad for the Alicia our agent, but it was just a quick ride for us. I’ll put the link if anyone wants to look at it. Hubby really liked it a lot. The yard is beautiful, but I think it’s too small and the stairs just might kill me. I can not believe the owners would smoke pot knowing people were coming to look at his house! Any ways I am still thinking about it. I think adding a bedroom with a sitting area and a handicapped bathroom would work. Offers are due today but I don’t like being rushed so if it’s still available Friday we may throw our hat in the ring.

    Have a great day everyone!
    Hugs
    Ingrid

Took a look at your maybe house. 1820? Wow, it’s a beauty. And with that extra unit sounds like it would work well for everyone. The only thing I noticed was in the kitchen, the stove is so close to the door. Seems like it might be an accident happening. I would probably move it to the other wall and put cabinets/countertop there. Wouldn’t break the bank to do that. Also looks like it has a nice freestanding garage as well. And the rooms look spacious. Thanks for sharing. 🙂

  9. When I opened your blog today and saw the Nyla I thought you had finished another dress already! Well you certainly have been busy! The picture taken with your flash makes the shoes match much better. Love the way that collar fits…just perfect!
Will be anxious to see what white tights do and any other pretty things you decide on🤗🤔😍
