It’s all done, but I didn’t have time to get it listed on Ebay… possibly Wednesday evening I can get it on… I was a busy bee today… It won’t seem like that much to you, again, but it was to me… it was the time consuming stuff… snaps, hems, etc… the unseen things.
I was calling this an Easter dress, but I think it was supposed to be a “Year of the Rabbit” dress, wasn’t it?
Ten Ping’s Ultrasuede shoes were just a tad bit tight when I finished them last night… so I stretched them on a foot mold I had made from Sculpy…and it worked… Now she can wear them with thin socks or thigh highs… I also added tiny white leather flowers to the side of each shoe…
It’s easier to pull up these tiny little shoes on your dolls heels if you have a tab to help you… I added one to the back of each shoe.
Here are the thigh highs I made…
Several ladies asked about adding some lace to the hem of the skirt… I had already hemmed the dress when I remembered that, so I just added it to the hemmed up part and hand stitched it on… it’s a very soft Swiss Batiste lace and actually favorite style.. I only have about 5″ left… boo hoo…
I actually cut out and made a new jacket for Ten Ping. The one I had made was a good fit, but I didn’t have my snaps sewn to the back yet, and after I did, it took up too much room across the back of her bodice and “I” felt it was a bit too tight. This second jacket was stitched in the white thread again, but I did it a little bit closer to the scalloped edge…
Here was the jacket from yesterday…
…and here is the new jacket with white buttons sewn down one side…
Okay, the cat’s out of the bag… now you’ve seen her wool felt hat… decorated the same way as her purse…
I also shortened the purse strap by about 1/2″… I think it’s better too!, Thanks Charlotte!
So I think I covered everything I did… new thigh highs, new hat, new jacket, stretched her shoes, added lace to the skirt, sewed the snaps on the back, added buttons to the jacket, shortened the purse strap, and added flowers and tabs to the shoes…
Here are the rest of my pictures… Ten Ping was quite happy to show you how it all turned out…
It’s like a skating rink outside where I live. IF you step outside, you better have ahold of something…
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
Love love LOVE this outfit!! and in my favorite color, too!! That jacket works better for her, I think; hopefully you can use the other one you made in some other way? Maybe for Navi?
Her hat is perfect–that little organza bow is just the right touch. I love her thigh highs, too, and that gives her an alternate look with her dress. Yay, for shortening the strap to her purse–what a difference that 1/2″ makes!! Thanks, Jeanne!
Hi Charlotte,
I’m glad you approve of Ten Ping’s outfit… If YOU didn’t approve of it, I might as well give up sewing! I know you love lavender… me too!
I just got the set scheduled to go on Ebay Thursday night… and then hopefully someone will love it as much as your Gigi does!
Congrats on your new dolls! It’s always fun to hear when someone gets new ones… or old ones, for that matter…
Thanks for your kind compliments, Charlotte,
Blessings, Jeanne
I meant to add, Barbara, that is so interesting, about the Nigerian women wearing clothing to church that reflect the church seasonal colors! I’ve been to Swaziland and S. Africa, and I don’t remember hearing anything about that. Of course, it could just be that the churches we visited (one in Swaziland, one in S.Africa) weren’t liturgical churches: that is, didn’t follow the church “seasons”–Advent, Lent, etc.–or use things like paraments on the altar and matching stoles on the pastors. The Baptist church we belong to now doesn’t do that, I know. There’s just a plain cloth or perhaps a lace one on the altar, but no seasonal hangings. (However, I grew up in the Lutheran church–my dad was a pastor–and that very definitely does use the seasonal colors! In fact, I kept 2 or 3 of my dad’s oldest stoles, because the embroidery was so exquisite on them, I just couldn’t bear to part with them!)
Charlotte, it is a liturgical church the women belonged to. I’m on the Altar Guild at church and love doing it – until we have to change the colors. Sometimes that can be often if there is a special event in between or depending on the church season (we have a calendar that helps us out as you probably know). And the matching clergy vestments are exquisite.
Jeanne, I was one of those who said that no lace was needed, but now that I see it has been added, I can’t imagine it WITHOUT the lace! I guess I was imagining it with a different type of lace that would be too much. It is darling and goes so well with the whole outfit!
Everything you did yesterday was just the perfect thing! I love that little hat, the added flowers on her shoes and the buttons dancing down the front of the jacket! The purse strap is the perfect length now too, and the thigh highs finish the look! Ten Ping is ready for the Year of the Rabbit, plus the Easter Parade!
It was interesting to hear that Nigerian women wear colors that match the liturgical season at church! Being a Catholic, I should have more color in my wardrobe if I was doing that! Better look for some green for Sunday now! 🙂
Hi Linda,
I’m glad you like the lace added to the dress..,. because it’s a busy print fabric, I wasn’t sure if it would work, so I basted it on first, and then decided it would be okay… it’s a very soft cotton lace and I really am going to have to buy some more of it… it has been a favorite of mine for a few years. I sure hope it hasn’t been discontinued.
I just finished getting the listing ready for Thursday evening on Ebay. I hope someone out there is longing for a Year of the Rabbit set for their doll… or even an Easter Parade dress! :o)
One of my friends at church is from Nigeria… I’m going to ask her about this too… I found it interesting!
Thanks Linda,
Blessings, Jeanne
I love the lace around the bottom of the dress! I was one that asked for it and I am so glad you did! I love the whole outfit! Makes me wish I had a Ten Ping!
HI Helen,
I’m so glad you asked about the lace and so glad I went with it… I think it looks lovely now! Not too much, and not too little! Just right!
Oh, too bad you don’t have a Ten Ping… I’ve had mine for several years and LOVE sewing for her, even though she’s one of the tiny dolls…
Thanks again,
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh cute. Love the pics without the pantalettes. They showcase the shoes, thigh highs, and dress so well. And that hat is adorable. Is that pattern something that you concocted or a stock pattern? I might be able to manage making something like that for one of my tiny Meadow kids.
Sounds like it might be fun sliding around on a sled at Jeanne’s. Please watch it on that ice. 🙂
Thanks Joy,
I’m glad my blog posts are coming to your email again… sorry about the glitch… I guess that’s what it was!
The hat for Ten Ping is one that has been a trial and error for a few years… I can show you the pattern I drafted… if you like… It’s not very hard, but this wool felt was pretty challenging, as it was a bit thick… although it made a wonderfully sturdy hat… and with all that stitching, it really is sturdy, plus 2 layers on the brim.
It’s much too dangerous to be out in it, if you didn’t have to be… Kristoffer came over tonight and said he fell 5 times today at work… one of them was caught on his porch camera… he fell down the stairs and slid out onto the sidewalk… we watched it and it looked painful!
I’m not going out on it, until it’s melted… but we have a ways to go, because it’s pretty thick…
Thanks Joy,
Blessings, Jeanne
I just think this ensemble could not get any cuter! The Year of the Rabbit is the perfect name and it could be Easter of course. Loved seeing the back of the hat.. I always wondered how it got its shape. So you just measure the head and make the brim to fit the 4piece cap? They always add so much personality🥰
Good luck with the Auction👍🏻
Thank you Kathie,
I just got the listing ready to go on Ebay Thursday evening and did call it Year of the Rabbit… but mentioned in the listing, it could be an Easter dress as well.
Joy asked about the hat too… I’ll try to show a picture of my pattern…it’s one I drafted… and it’s easy but it’s probably my 15th or so attempt at getting a pattern that fits well… This one is slightly loose on Ten Pings head, to make way for fluffy wigs, if need be…
Thanks Kathie,
Blessings, Jeanne
I totally love this entire ensemble. The hat is adorable, the lace (even though I said it didn’t need it) is perfect, the length of the bunny purse is good now, the flowers on the shoes are a sweet addition and the thigh highs are a perfect alternative if it’s too warm for the pantalettes. I don’t have a Ten Ping but I do have a little lady who has her eye on this. I just bought her an Easter dress but she said she could use another dress too, especially when it’s part of such a wonderful outfit.
We’re still good to go on no ice. I remember once when I was young waking up on a Sunday morning to see our roads totally covered with ice. We walked to Sunday school so we went in spite of the ice. Not sure how we did it, but none of us fell. When we got home we put on our ice skates and skated the afternoon away in front of our house.
HI Barbara,
Thank you for your sweet compliments on Ten Ping’s dress. I had to refer back to the pictures of Ten Ping’s hat, in the blue and green batik set to see which pattern I may have used… Fortunately I had marked on my pattern, blue/green batik, so I knew which pattern pieces to use.
I am SO OVER all this ice… it’s just like a skating rink in my front yard… the brick sidewalk is very dangerous. My hubby chipped the ice off the 3 steps into our house, but the brick walkway is a sold slab of ice. I haven’t been out since Monday morning, before it all started. and I’m NOT going out until it’s melted.
Thanks Barbara,
Blessings, Jeanne
You have 5″ of lace left? What about making a simple sleeveless blouse with lace trim to go with the pants? Then Ten Ping would have a whole mix and match set.
This outfit is already darling. The print is the perfect size for Ten Ping, and the Year of the Rabbit and Easter season coming makes it even better.
HI Marilyn,
I might make a blouse with the lace on the bottom, and if one of the Sofa Sisters wins it, I’ll send it along! :o)
Thanks for liking this set. It is such a sweet set on Ten Ping. I love looking at her in it. This morning when I woke up, I went into my sewing room and had to take another look to make sure she still looked nice in it. She did! :o)
Thanks Marilyn,
Blessings, Jeanne
I am so sorry I didn’t get back to post comments yesterday! Jeanne, I just love Ten Ping’s outfit, everything you added just makes it perfect!
I wanted to comment on the post about the Nigerian women, we watch a TV show called “Bob ❤️ Abishola” and there are several Nigerian women in the show. It’s so much fun to see all the beautiful clothes they wear, fantastic colors, and the head scarves are amazing! The episode where Bob and Abishola have a wedding in Nigeria is wonderful!
