Oh, I wasn’t talking about a pearl necklace! I meant pearls on her dress!
See…
I wanted to make her Easter dress special and what could be more special than this?
I started hand sewing the pearls on as soon as I got home from the Food Pantry.
Each pearl is sewn on separately from the others and knotted on the back.
I will finish sewing the pearls on the bottom of the bodice after I stitch the skirt on.
Hopefully, the next time you see this dress, the skirt will be attached.
I guess we’ll meet again Monday morning!
Have a great weekend!
Blessings, Jeanne
I love the little pearls you’ve sewn to the bodice. It makes a nice, effective embellishments on the pintucks. Great idea!
Last night I got a whole hour in my sewing room–yay! Made some progress on the current project.
In other news….my dear husband has agreed to go into respite care for two weeks, starting the end of Feb., so I can go to sewing expo!! It has taken a while to bring him around to the idea–at first I suggested just the three days I’ll be gone, but then I found that most places have a 2 week minimum, so I said, well, maybe I could find a place that will just do one week. And then I got to thinking, if he stays in the full two weeks (which we would have to pay for but could “check him out” any time), I could get some other things done in the house, perhaps even get a walk-in shower put in during that time! So, I have been making calls and visiting places, and he seems to be accepting it (finally! At first he threatened to “walk home”!!) because last night he got out his little date book, and wrote it in!! I am thrilled. It will be my first real break (other than a few hours here and there) in three years.
And… yesterday we got flowers!! From our former daughter-in-law, Sarah, mother of Isaac and Lily. We’ve had a very good relationship with her for many years, but this is the first time she ever did anything like this. I called her immediately to thank her, and we had a real good visit.
I think the vacation for Ron is a good one. Sounds like you have been able to check out places as well for the future. Glad you were able to do some sewing as well. 🙂
You need the break and Ron needs a change. He will miss you but he may just enjoy the difference.
Charlotte, I didn’t realize there was such a thing as respite care. I only knew about adult day care facilities and most I’ve heard of are limited to days and time. Our church does what’s called the Gathering Place for people who have forms of dementia but it’s only for a few hours once a month. Not much time to get things done if you are a full-time caregiver. It sounds like a great place for Ron to hang out for a couple weeks and meet some new friends in a safe, caring environment. Next best thing to your tender care. Have fun at Expo.
Can’t wait to see what creative endeavors you bring forth during those two weeks.
Charlotte,
Flowers, respite care, expo, sewing all sound like what you need. Three huge cheers from CO.
You got me, Jeanne, with the ”pearls” in the title, and made me think it was a necklace, but oh my, how pretty those pearls are! They must be twice as pretty seeing them in 3-D, as in real life! This dress is going to be a stunner and I’m not sure I would have the patience and skill to do all those tiny pearls, and get them in perfect lines!
Good for you, Charlotte, to be having a little time to do what you want to do!
Last thing I would have thought. Great idea. Looks like you know how to string pearls as well. 🙂 Another thing to add to your resume. Finally got in a trip to Joann’s yesterday, and was looking at trims such as what you have on the sleeves. Very little selection. I may have to resort to buying online in the future. I know that others have mentioned a place in PA that has sewing notions in small scale, but I can’t remember the name. Any other places I can check out? Anybody?
Rubyredtoys has the latest Siblies up today. Y2K fluorescent colors and a very cute sculpt. 🙂
Home Sew
This is the place Joy! Love their stuff!
Thanks for the reminder, Jeanne; I used to order from Home Sew fairly often, back when it was a paper catalog. They always had cool stuff! Will have to check their website tomorrow.
I see Jeanne mentioned my very most favorite place for trims, especially for dolls. It also happens to be in Bethlehem, PA, the town where I grew up. My mother bought from this shop back when it first opened. I was in ninth grade.
Thanks so much Jeanne and Barbara. Writing down the name so I won’t forget again. 🙂
What a great idea putting pearls on the bodice. It looks great against the purple material. It’s much more dressier now. I love it so far and can’t wait to see what else you do.
Charlotte, it’s great you could work out something with Ron to get several things done as well as enjoying a sewing expo.
Pearls ! What a surprise . They are a great addition the the already pretty bodice! I have a Freida too. Love her coloring. Sadly she is still in the box but not for long. 4 dolls to fix ahead of time to sew.
Have a wonderful ❤️Valentines Day Jeanne ❤️and all you wonderful
sofa sisters.❤️
What an awesome dress this is going to be! I love the pearls and admire your patience in sewing them on. One thing I notice when I win one of your auctions is that the items look much bigger on my computer than they actually are. I’m trying to imagine the size of this bodice in person. Looking forward to seeing this outfit evolve.
Our rowing machine has now been set up but I still need to link it to the wi-fi so I can see how to use it. It fits perfectly in the new laundry room with room to spare. It is very sleek. I have something I want to wear for Easter that I haven’t been able to wear for awhile because it is too tight in the waist so I guess I’d better get cracking. Losing inches these days is not as easy as it used to be.
Oh yes. What a sweet design. With 33 pearls they must be miniscule. I’m looking at one of my Rubys and seeing how small the bodice area is on her dress. Going to be a very cute dress and perfect for spring/Easter.
I love the pearls! What a great idea.
