My hubby wanted me to go out of town with him today… not too far away; about 25 miles away, to Sam’s Club… which led to Harbor Freight, then Menards, then to the Feed store…then “I” got to go to a thrift store…and on the way home, there was stopping at Aldi and a stop at the church to check on something. Needless to say, this cut into my day and especially my sewing time. But I was happy to be with him! I bought one 3/4 yard remnant of a pretty aqua print fabric for $1.00 at the thrift shop. I think you’ll be seeing it this Spring!
Maybe you think I’m stalling about showing you which fabric I chose??? You might be right. I kind of went against the majority, who chose the first print… the white one with the smaller purple and lavender flowers and decided on the second print… the one that looked like a field of violets!
Now hold on… it’s VERY pretty and rich looking in person… I just have to get my lighting right. It truly does look wonderful with her shoes… like it does in this picture.
Actually, in person, ALL of those fabrics went super with the shoes I made… it’s just that my lighting wasn’t the greatest.
Anyway, I wanted to make a dress that wasn’t just something with lace at the waist, with floss running through it and tied into a bow… So I decided to do a little twin needle pintucking on the bodice…
Kinda messy? Yep, it starts out that way…
The back looks even worse when you just getting started…
But if you trim the thread ends carefully, not pulling them, you end up with a bodice like this…
I used some skinny Washi tape, crisscrossing two pieces to make my first two rows even at the neckline… I peeled the tape off after I got the first two rows crisscrossed, and then it was just a matter of keeping my presser foot exactly in line with the row before it…
I chose Ruby Red Fashion Friend, Frieda, as the model this time because she told me she hadn’t modeled anything since that blue and green batik romper last summer! OOPS! She’s happy now… and although I didn’t get much done, she still wanted to show you what parts ARE done…
She is the darkest skinned doll of the RRFF’s that I have, so she looks really pretty in this violet color.
She told me I needed to show how HER legs with the shoes, as opposed to Sara’s legs… so here goes…
I hope to get more done on it tomorrow…
See you then,
Blessings, Jeanne
Well, even though you didn’t choose the fabric I thought went best with the shoes (that first one), you did choose my favorite fabric! And I love the pintucking on the bodice. I wouldn’t have thought to do that, and it really adds a nice touch.
Good to see Freida modeling again, too!! Mine is jealous, as I haven’t made much for my dolls lately. Ron just seems to be needing so much of my time lately. But tonight I Did get to spend an hour in my sewing room! Yay!! It felt wonderful.
Oh Jeanne, I’m not upset at all because you didn’t choose what I had mentioned! I actually liked them all and it was matter of just picking one. I love what you picked, and how unique the stitching is you have done on the bodice! I have an idea that the first piece will be used for something else with this outfit, from your title!
I never felt the colors of the material didn’t match the leather of the shoes. My monitor shows them as a perfect match.
Freida looks so pretty in this color! Dark haired dolls show off vivid colors best, I think, and she certainly does!
I can’t recall who said it, but they have been dressing their dolls for Valentine’s Day. Let’s see those pictures, please!
That was me that has some of my dolls dressed for Valentine’s Day. Now I have two requests for pictures, you and Joy. I’m just trying to decide on a good set-up. I don’t have much in the way of Valentine themed display items that come to mind immediately. Guess I’d better start looking.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen twin stitching done this way. I like it a lot. The white stitching matches the shoe flowers too. 🙂 The fabric is perfect, and Freida wears it well. 🙂
We had frost again this morning. Didn’t think to cover the plants as it hasn’t been this cold early for awhile. Hoping they are okay. 🙂
You’re two for two with me. I have a Freida (Naomi Ruth) and the field of violets was my favorite fabric. And I love the use of the twin needle. I’ve had twin needle capability on several machines but have never used it. Really need to give it a try. Now I’ve got tons of ideas running through my head.
You have a Menards. How lucky for you. We got the windows for our addition from them but we had to go to Wichita, Kansas. Menards was the only store in the country that had the windows we wanted in the size we needed, and Wichita was the closest store to us.
I so want to get back to dolly sewing. I’ve got several new patterns I want to try out and some new fabric. But I’m staying disciplined. This weekend I need to make the curtains for the addition and next weekend I have to do the pillows to go with my new settee cushion for the breezeway. I’ve been waiting for the construction to be completed before I redecorated that area. While Chelsy was alive that was her domain and maintenance was an issue. Now I’m up for something a little more dressy.
Never had time to comment yesterday, but the field of violets would have been my top pick. I love violets. We have four different wild varieties and then one I bought. I also like a certain violet candy (as well as their rose and another brand’s elderflower). I request it as a birthday gift.
Very pretty design on the bodice and Freida wears purple well.
We broke the high temperature record yesterday in Ohio. It was 64 here. maybe Chuck was wrong. 🙂
I thought all of the prints looked good with the shoes too…but I LOVED the double needle treatment and I may try it.Something for my Freida who only has her original clothes. 🤗I’ve had a package of those needles forever and not used them🫢
Off to do laundry my favorite chore …NOT🙃
I chose a different fabric first, but this is the one I liked best with the shoes, so I won! (I can usually find a way to say I won.) My newest AG has light brown skin, black hair, and a lavender sweater and looks beautiful, so I think this is going to be another winning combination.
