Violette is quite the little fashionista! She’s been telling me all about what kinds of things she likes and hopes I’ll make her some of them in the future… I told her I would! But for now, let’s concentrate on the “first” one!
I finished her houndstooth check skirt with snaps in the back… leaving it open, sort of like a wrap around skirt. It will be much easier to dress your doll in a skirt open in the back, than it would be with one where you had to tuck the blouse in and pull it down to get it even around the waist.
Oh, and yes, Linda… I did continue the pleats around to the back!
I added two little black buttons on the yoke of the skirt…
You won’t be surprised at what I made from the red leather… yep, a purse!
This is what Violette said when I slipped it on her shoulder… “Ooooohhhh YES!” :o)
I have the top flap stay in place with another of my tiny magnets…
So here is the next clue… well, it’s actually 2 clues… I’m not sure which one I’m going to use yet… :o)
Here’s a close up of the fabrics…
Well, so far so good! No problems… let’s hope it continues! :o)
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
Samantha’s outfit is now up to SIX bids!! I smell a bidding war in the offing!!
I love that the pleats go all around Violette’s skirt–so much nicer that way. The buttons add a nice touch, too.
Her red purse is just wonderful, Jeanne–it’s the perfect size for her, and looks like a miniature version of a “real” purse, which I’m sure is what you were going for. Perfectly in scale!!
Now, as to the two fabrics…I’m thinking a blouse, and I really like the one with the ruffles, but even if you just used the ruffle down the center front of the blouse, I wonder if it might be a little too wide for the scale of the doll? It’s a little hard to tell. So perhaps the other fabric would work better for her, although the woven “plaid” design on that one looks a bit large, too.
However, you are the one with the fabrics in your hands, so you will have to take a look at how each one looks on the doll. Can’t wait to see which works out best!!
This outfit is really coming together. I like both fabrics..will be fun to see what you do with them. The purse is just adorable. Fits her perky personality too.
I love those crisp pleats, that go ALL around, Jeanne! Who would have thought otherwise?
The red leather purse goes so well with the black and white checked skirt! It does look like a “real” purse too! Just darling!
Now as to the white material, I am pretty sure that is for a blouse! I like the windowpane one on the left best, but like Charlotte mentioned, we can’t really see the scale of them, so that ruffled one is iffy for making a decision. Only you know, and will do what is best, I am sure!! I’m just not sure if ruffles and checks “go” together!
I can’t wait to see what comes next! A jacket, hat, boots??
For some reason, this skirt reminds me of a one that I had, way back. Dropped waist with four buttons on the drop and I think it was A-line. Maybe called a bandstand skirt? Anyone remember something similar? Regardless, this is a cute skirt and a perfect length. It’s hard to tell, but is the purse strap adjustable? Not all dollies like them that long or wearing them cross body. Maybe Violette will have a black velvet vest with gold trim over her new white blouse? Can’t wait to see the next feature. Almost like a movie isn’t it? 🙂
Have fun everyone. 🙂
I remember those skirts well. I loved them. I think you were the one who mentioned sewing for small dolls. How small? Kathy Anne Designs has patterns for the AG mini dolls and I think I bought patterns from a place called Merry Manatees (it was something Manatees. If you want to know for sure I’ll look it up.) I must confess I haven’t made any of them yet but they look pretty simple and very cute.
Thanks for the help. My latest Meadow kid, Nunnu is 4.7″, so very small. I’ve heard she can wear Barbie Kelly clothes, but don’t have any yet to try. I’m going to look for that Manatee place. 🙂
I ran into a pattern the other day for the Kelly clothes but now I have to try to remember where that was. I’ll try to remember.
Dear Jeanne, I love the skirt. It reminds me of a back to school kind of skirt. I can see a pretty white blouse with it and a blazer with a school emblem.
What an adorable skirt!! I do love houndstooth. The purse is very nice and will look great with the outfit. Is the white ruffled fabric anything like the one you used for the LD “wardrobe” that I won? If so I can tell everyone the size is perfect and it will make a lovely top. If it’s not I can’t make a choice either.
I’ve been rearranging and reorganizing my sewing room in preparation for unboxing my new serger. Since I plan on using it a lot, I needed more room behind my serger chair so I had to rethink some things. I decided I needed a different piece of furniture other than the sewing table I had been using for my previous serger to put it on. It has a lot of small parts so I needed something with drawers so I don’t lose things. Believe it or not I ended up with a small computer desk. To buy a dedicated serger cabinet would have cost me $1000 and up. And I didn’t really like the configuration of most of them. Anything cheaper looked flimsy. I wanted something where the serger would be in the center of the table and there would be drawers on either side. The one I settled on has four nice drawers to the right and a cabinet for the CPU on the left. That will make a great place for my serger thread. I bought a plastic serger rack that fits all sizes of thread and has removable posts. It will slide in and be easy to remove to choose my thread color. The desk will not be here till at least Friday so in the meantime I plan on getting some sewing done. A pair of silver jeans for my new Mini Maru Janeen Joy and I need to put the finishing touches on an outfit for Wren.
Still hot here. Anyone to the north have some cooler weather to send our way?
Hi Barbara, I remember when you mentioned your Scottish connection. Yes, I have Irish and Welsh to go with my Scottish and English and then I have a lot of German.
The red purse in the perfect complement to the houndstooth skirt. The white material is for a blouse. Maybe we were odd, but in the 1980’s we wore ruffled blouse with plaid skirts and houndstooth ones. In fact, I still have a couple of blouse that were not only plaid, but had ruffles as well. I, too like the idea of a ruffle down the center of the blouse and ruffled cuffs to dress up the skirt.
The skirt is looking pretty cute. White long sleeve blouse with ruffled sleeves and a vest, not a blazer? If only she had saddle shoes!!
