Hi everyone,
Thank you SO much for all your kind compliments and encouraging words about Violette’s new outfit. I am SO smitten with her… she is just adorable… even my hubby said so, and he usually only comments on the smiling dolls!
I told you I had something else to go with this set and most of you guessed it was a hat… and you were right. We had a great photo session and LOTS of pictures were taken! I better get started showing them to you… :o)
But first, I think it was Linda who mentioned the shoe laces on the boots looking kind of wild, so I took a length of the waxed thread I stitched the boots with and ran it through the eyelets… because it’s waxed, you can kind of shape the loops and smooth down the ends if you like. I can send along both sets of laces for the winner if they like. I guess she could also have white laces in her boots too, couldn’t she?
Oh well, onto the pictures… I thought I’d show you the sketch I’ve been working from. Remember when Rebecca was home a few weeks ago and I told you she had figured out what I should make for Violette’s debut outfit? Well, she couldn’t draw it, but she described it to me and I roughly drew what she had in mind. This is the sketch I scribbled down and have been looking at for inspiration this last week…
I made her a beret that matches her skirt… (that’s what Rebecca said to do, and I followed her to the letter this time!) :o)
I think I’m going to have a REALLY hard time picking pictures for her Ebay listing… I like them ALL!
Here’s the back of the beret…
One more…
BUT WAIT! That’s not all..
I decided to make her a solid black beret from some ribbed corduroy I had too! She looks just as sweet in it as the houndstooth check…
I “might” make one more thing for this set, but I’m not positive! Keep watching to see… My Saturday and Sunday are packed, so I’m not sure if I’ll get any time in my sewing room, but I’m hoping so!
I’ll see you Monday
Blessings, Jeanne
That waxed thread looks great as her shoelaces! A better scale, and more “shoelace-looking”, if you know what I mean.
Of course, she can have other colors of shoelaces! The shoes I’m wearing right now are black with bright pink and a tiny bit of turquoise, but you know, those plain black laces just had no pizzazz!! So I got laces that are black with glittery sparkles all thru them. Can’t have “dull” shoes! π
I really like her new berets. I think it was a really nice idea to make both the solid black and the checked ones, so the wearer has a choice. Also, if the recipient already has a black skirt (or a skirt with black and other colors in it), she can wear that blouse and the black beret with it, and that will give her a different look!
Oh yes, the shoelaces look so much better and in scale with the shoes, Jeanne! I like the way they dissappear into the shoes, rather than the other way around. Perfect!
Well, that beret is just adorable…….both of them! Rebecca sure does know how to design and envision whatever she is doing! Must have gotten it from “someone”! I just see a small differencewith her drawing in the sleeves, but with the ruffles on the material already, I see that that was the better thing to do with this set. All in all, this set is truly a spectacular one!
No, no RRFF dolls here…………yet. I’m waiting to hit the lottery first!!
How funny. When I first saw the checked beret, I was disappointed that it wasn’t black. Then, voila, there it was in black. π What a lovely outfit. I think she’s ready to head to the library to pick up some weekend reading. Have a delightful weekend, Violette. π
Dear Jeanne, oh, la, la! I love the berets! Violette is a sweetie. I was sorry to miss her sale.
This outfit is truly wonderful! The blouse is perfection and the skirt, boots and bag are absolutely lovely. I know Violette’s voluminous hair presents hat-making challenges. I like the idea of the berets but, to me, the over-size opening to accommodate all that hair looks very strange. And the berets won’t work well for other Fashion Friends moms unless they have a Violette, Maya or another 14″ doll that has loads of hair.
Hi Cheryl,
I think I have solved the problem of the bigger hair dolls needing a bigger banded hat!! Stay tuned… I think you’ll be happy with the results!!
Blessings, Jeanne
This outfit started out great and just keeps getting better. I love the two choices for the beret and the shoelaces look great now. Have you told Violette that she doesn’t get to keep the outfit yet? Obviously you’re still in control of your sewing room. My girls would make a big time ruckus If I tried to take away any of their outfits. I even made things they could share but they ended up belonging to someone totally. I actually mixed up two of the Easter dresses for my RRFF and they informed me of my mistake and told me what they had on didn’t suit. even though I told them they looked great. The only control I maintained was to tell them I’d fix the problem next time but for now it is what it is. I’d already spent three days dressing them all.
Wonderful! Great call on those laces, and Charlotte, your feet must be fun to look at!
Like Cheryl, I just saw those wide expanses of the beret bands to accommodate all that hair. May I suggest putting in some elastic that will allow the beret openings to expand for tons of hair, but will make the bands nipped in for doll wigs not so voluminous? Overall, this outfit rates as outstanding. π
Good hearing from Alina yesterday! π
Going to be a lot of dolls rolling in here. I just have my fingers crossed that the majority arrive before I go off on a trip with our three boys. No hubby, no wives. Just Mom and her boys for a week which was their idea. Love it!
Have a great weekend, sisters. And Dorothy, from time to time, please remind us how many days until May 1. Youβre a dear!
My dear Sally,
It seems we were on the same wavelength about the doll hats!! :o)
Blessings, Jeanne
Thanks for answering about the ruffles, Jeanne. That is great and a very convenient way of having ruffles for outfits.
Aww, the berets are just darling and having a choice is wonderful, plus the black would go with other outfits as well. The waxed thread is really nice for the boots. .
Really sweet schoolgirl outfit! The beret may need an adjustable button loop somewhere for those girls with less hair. If you checkout βJadeβ of the RRFF site she wears a similar skirt and vest with a pink beret (!) and white knee socks. The vest is double breasted. What I like about the black beret is how it co ordinates with the ribbon and buttons, so any other color/pattern will be perfect. Like wool shorts too. But I digress itβs what I enjoy about your blog, how sofa sisters can chime in.
π I’m sure Violette’s outfit will sell before you can get it posted! Very sweet!
