Oh me, Oh my… wait till you see these quilts!!!

Update on the painting…

Well, the priming was completed today… well, actually tonight… we got home a little after 8:00 and it was a long day… We started about 10:00 in the morning and only took a break to eat a sandwich I had packed us.

But…the good news is, we finished what we had planned to… and even changed our mind on the windows. We were planning on painting them the Accessible Beige so things would move along faster, but we decided to paint them white and they look SO much better. It was worth the extra effort! (My hubby went back home while I stayed there painting to get some semi gloss paint we had.)

The color is much prettier today than it was in my pictures yesterday. I think there was too much white showing around it, because when we got it all on the walls, it was very pretty… a light beige color and very cozy!

I tried to take a few pictures in the afternoon, but the sun was going behind some trees and I didn’t get the shots I wanted to show you…

There were a few spots that bled through from the spackling, but we used Kilz on it and think it will work.

There is no trim around the windows because they are plaster sills… here is that side of the window my hubby fixed… it’s amazing!!

Before…

and After…

We have to work faster than fast tomorrow to get everything done… (the bathroom will have to wait) but maybe not for too long…

Okay, now for what you’ve been waiting for… some spectacular quilts from Anne!!! All the way from New Zealand! Thank you Anne… they are absolutely gorgeous! I bet you see those words a lot in the comments!!! :o) Don’t forget to click on the picture to enlarge it…then you can zoom in on it using the Control key and the + key…

“Hi Jeanne
This is Sam’s quilt. It is all hand pieced. She called it Ashley’s Secret. Ashley designed it with a heart in the centre. Not sure if you can see it.”

“This is one of the ones I sold. This was called Elusive Butterfly. Made with scraps.”

“This was my quilt, again hand pieced. I started it on my trip overseas in 2019. It is very big and fits my queen bed with a good overhang. A nightmare to quilt.”

“My rearranged sewing room that is Sam pulling the quilt through from the back. She was sitting on the table you can just see her knees. NEVER AGAIN!!!!” (She called this one the Anaconda!)

“This is the second one I sold. This one is called Counting Flowers on the wall. Again all from scraps. They both went to the same lady who bought them for her two daughters.”

Thanks SO much, Anne! They are just lovely!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Jeanne, you’ve made wonderful progress on those rooms! I do like the white trim with the beige walls–looks so crisp and nice!!

Anne, your quilts (and Sam’s) are lovely! My favorite is the one you made for your own bed (the stars from hexagons). It may have been a bear to quilt, but it’s Gorgeous!! Thanks so much for sharing pictures!

Sally, yes, I did go and look at your reply. I hadn’t heard yet about Evangeline (Siblie). She’s really beautiful, and I love her hair (I love red hair!) but the description says she has “brown” hair!! So I hope they get that figured out!! However, I think I still like Minnie better. I will have to look at them again.

Okay, I will try to remember to send Jeanne some pictures. I know I have a blouse I can enter, and I’m trying to finish the apron in time. I have a smocked LD dress I could enter (but will put it on some much less expensive doll to show it!!) as well as perhaps one of the RRFF dresses I made. We shall see.

Our Evergreen Fair is in Monroe, but we do have several towns (including Everett, just north of us) that start with “ever”. Puyallup is where our annual Sewing Expo is held, and Bellingham is where I went to college (at Western)!!

Joy, our fair has published the fair book online for several years. Not my favorite thing. I did print out the pertinent pages for submitting entries to Open class, however. I have a couple of days yet before I have to take things out there. In the meantime, there are forms to fill out (and that means printing them off first).

Yes, I promise pictures of Gigi when she gets here!!

Wow, two projects that turned out to be just spectacular! That room looks like a new additon now, and I too love the crisp white trim around the windows, Jeanne! Do you also do the decorating for the room, like curtains and such, or does the church supply those? That is such a nice big window, I would hate to see it covered up!

Anne, I have nothing but highest respect for you and the beautiful quilts you have shown, both for you and Sam! I love those pretty, and cheerful colors, not to mention the pattern, of Elusive Butterfly! Just beautiful! Loved the picture of you and Sam working on the Anaconda! What a fitting name! We appreciate your talents and I can’t believe how much time and effort you both have spent making those beautiful quilts!

Forgot to mention, try as I might, I could not find the heart in the center of Sam’s quilt! Any hints??

Dorothy, have you heard from your friends how the UFDC convention was?

    1. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Linda, no but our club meets on Sunday and the delegates will give a report. That is always a treat because they bring in all of the dolls they have gotten at meal events and won in the helper room. Not to mention the dolls they purchased in the sales room. Then there is the special souvenir doll.

There is always much oohing and aahing at that meeting (smile). I will have to take a photo to share with Jeanne for the Sofa Sisters to see.

I haven’t heard where the convention will be next year. I am guessing it will be on the West Coast because last year it was in Maryland.

      1. Thank you, Dorothy! I’ll be sure to see what yu find out and would love to see the souvenir doll, plus any others! I’m sure they loved our steamy and wet weather!🥵

      2. Charlotte Trayer

Dorothy, I think I read that it will be in Bellevue, WA, next year–that’s only about 40 min. or so from where I live (depending on traffic, which can be brutal, of course)!

Linda the heart is the arrangement of red blocks in the centre of the quilt

Oh, the painting fairies are doing their work. Everything is looking quite spiffy. Glad you decided on white around the windows. Definitely helps to lighten the room. I can just see the girls arriving, not knowing about the renovations, and being thrilled to find a clean bright space. I’ll be thinking about you today. Hope you get everything done as planned. Hurray for Jeanne and George. 🙂
So wonderful to see Anne and part of Sam. 🙂 Can’t thank Anne enough for sharing the beauties of the quilting world. Sam’s quilt for Ashley is so special. Love the colors and the special heart is so creative. ❤ The scrap quilts are amazing. So many pieces and all coming together to make beauty. So glad you have photos with which to remember them. Such an appropriate name for the Anaconda. 🙂 Saving my favorite for last, your own queen quilt is in colors I adore. It is exquisite. It must brighten your day whenever you see it. 🙂 Thanks so much for sharing.
Yesterday, after much ado, RRFF Siblie Sunny, arrived to join her friends. The caper wasn’t especially daring, but fulfilling. Fortunately, SF Express handed over the package to UPS, which provides the wonderful, “Follow the Map.” So, around noon, I checked the map, and the delivery truck was pretty far away. Not knowing which route it was going to follow, I decided to go out and check the yard and water. When I came back inside, I checked again and now the truck was just two streets away. Depending on the route, it could be quickly, or another hour or so. By the time I came into the kitchen and looked out the front windows, the truck was parked across the street. Horrors! Other person was stretched out on the couch and not asleep. As I headed into the living room, I spied the delivery guy carrying a small elongated box heading up the walk. I started talking to other person about random things in a louder than usual voice hoping to mask the sounds of steps and thud of a box. Kind of strange what popped into my head, but as I talked, I thought I heard a noise, but kept on talking. I think I was putting other person to sleep. As I stepped back into the kitchen, the truck was still parked across the street and a huge box was being delivered to the neighbors. I waited until the truck drove away. Other person didn’t notice. So, I decided that I might as go out in front and water my potted plants. With other person still on the couch, I slipped outside trying to spot the box and do something with it. Scanning the mat, there was no box. I know I’d seen the delivery person with it, but where did it go? Certainly porch pirates could not have absconded with it so quickly? I decided maybe it was left at the bottom of the steps. Walked down there, but no box. Mystified, I walked back up the steps and still looking, there was the box, right by the door carefully hidden behind a large flowerpot against the wall. Good spot UPS! I pulled out the box and put it under the bench and then commenced careful watering. When I was done, I peeped into the kitchen window and not seeing other person, figured he was still flaked out on the couch. Decided to take a risk and picked up the box hiding it behind me as I came inside. As I turned to close the door, I hid it in front and then behind me again. Quickly into the kitchen, other person opened his eyes, but did not spot that beautiful box. At the hectic moment of arrival, the thought of the ringing of the doorbell or a knock on the door escaped me. So fortunate that neither occurred. Whew! Sunny is here and will hopefully be unveiled later today. Another successful dolly delivery. 🙂

    1. Jeanne, the room looks as most have said so far, crisp, clean and peaceful for excited students. A home away from home!

Anne, nice seeing you and Sam’s feet!
These quilts are stunning and I can only imagine the time and talent you have in making them. They are just beautiful and the heart is really clever.

Joy, it’s always exciting to here your doll delivery adventures. Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible has nothing over you!!! Glad your follies arrived safely! Love to see their pictures.

    2. Hi Joy,
Congrats on Sunny and successfully getting her inside to join the others. I hope you’ll share photos of all your RRFF’s sometime.
I really got a good laugh out of Paula’s typo “Follies” and I’m sure you took it as funny also. Our doll purchases really are a folly since we don’t always use common sense. Technically, it’s not our fault though. It’s the doll’s with their pretty faces, clothing, and accessories whatever brand they are. If that not bad enough. there’s always some little thing from elsewhere that seems to work with them.
Maybe I can dress some of my follies later. At least one of mine does serve an important purpose. My kitties love to snuggle with her for some reason. LOL

      1. Yes, the “ follies “ was a typo!!! lol. I could have sworn I te read (🔙 see?) it just to make sure I didn’t have a typo! Can’t win! 😳

    3. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Joy, thank you for sharing the latest dolly spy adventure. Perhaps the UPS guy is part of your “network” now and will hide all of the packages.

Maybe you can have some extra (fake) foliage put by the front porch so boxes can be hidden. Or maybe you need a bush with a trap door. I wonder if the website Spies R Us will have other such items (laugh).

        1. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Joy, we have to make each other laugh. Laughter gets me through these very trying times. Your accounts are hilarious!

I grew up watching Mission Impossible. Later I watched Leverage. I loved the idea of a spy “team.” One day I hope to visit the International Spy Museum in Washington, DC.

  4. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, my goodness but you have done a wonderful job. I keep saying that you could have your own home repair/decorating show (smile).

Anne’s quilts are exquisite! Each one tops the other. I wonder if she every makes little ones for doll beds.

  5. The house is really looking nice, Jeanne, and the white window frames are so much nicer than beige.

Oh my, Anne, those quilts are just spectacular.! Love the Heart on “Ashley’s Secret”, that was a very clever design job. Sam did a lovely job making it.

It’s nearly impossible to pick a favorite of yours. I love ‘Elusive Butterfly” for the ladybugs. Your bedroom quilt with the stars in the hexagons is gorgeous and your “Counting Flowers” is so colorful with the intricate diamond design as the edges.
I’m surprised Sam could let you part with them. I love the quilts my grandmother made, also from scraps.

    1. I forgot to say that it was so nice to see a picture of you Anne. Your talent is just amazing.

  6. Anne Coldron in Christchurch NZ

    Hi all
Jeanne for some reason I am not getting your posts any more. I am using the last one I received and then clicking on the latest post on the side bar. Not sure why it suddenly happened.

You and George’s work on the house is nothing short of amazing. You know what they say “if you need something done ask a busy person”. You really are super woman/man.

Thanks for all the lovely comments about our quilts. It was Ashley who designed the heart in the centre of Sam’s. In her quilters comment that is on the card at the side in the exhibition Sam wrote this.
Mum. “But they might not be able to see the heart”
Ashley: “That’s ok Mum, I know it’s there and it’s my quilt”
I forgot to say that my big one was called “Memories are made of this” (we had a bit of a song theme going). There are some pieces, unfortunately polyester rather than cotton, that came from some scraps left over from a dress I made for Sam when she was one. As she is now 51 that makes them 50 years old! Not all the pieces have a long memory but many do.
To go back to the Song theme, ‘Elusive Butterfly’ got it’s name because after the quilt was finished I wasn’t happy with it it didn’t seem to have enough quilting. I was running out of time so decided to add some free motion quilting. I have been to several classes but I never felt confident to actually use it. I cut out some butterflies from freezer paper a nd quilted around them and was reasonably happy with the result. I know you can’t see them they were white thread on white but that is where the ‘elusive’ came in.

Joy I always enjoy your long comments about your doll deliveries and ‘other person’ you are hilarious. So much fun

Just over 3 weeks to spring and we are in the middle of a really cold snap, the worst of a very miserable winter. July was the wettest on record in Christchurch. It was lovely yesterday but very cold, today it is raining yet again and still very cold. Roll on Summer.

    Have a lovely day everyone

    1. Barbara in SE Texas

Anne, maybe we could send some of our summer your way. We’re all getting pretty ready for fall up our way.

Ugh! Plaster. When I was in high school we lived in a house with lathe and plaster walls. My dad wanted to do some remodeling and what a mess that was. All the dust ruined a stuffed dog my boyfriend had won for me. There was no way to wash it and sadly it was no longer cuddly since the hair got really stiff.

What a great job you and George are doing on the house. I know the new users will be extremely pleased and grateful for your time and effort.

Anne, all the quilts are absolutely beautiful and what a lot of work went into them. So far I’ve only managed to make a crib quilt for my grandson even though I have great hopes of making others. I have everything I need to do it but just haven’t allotted the time as yet. You are so blessed to have a daughter who shares your sewing passion. My daughter sews but only when she specifically wants something like new pillows. It’s a means to an end for her where for me it’s my sanity.

  8. Joy Lynne Carter

    Paint job – A++. You two. 😊
Each quilt lovelier than the last one if that’s even possible?! Love the creativity.

  9. Probably too late to post but I hadn’t gotten your emails all week. You said you would be busy remodeling but thought there would be something from the Sofa Sisters…so I went to Google and opened your blog that way. I was so surprised to see everyone here🤗👏 So what do I need to do to be back on your list? 😳
The room looks just beautiful…clean, smooth walls and the windows are outstanding! Love the layers of woodwork and the white trim!.
Ann your quilting is stunning …I love the one with the heart..yes, I see it☺️ And the one with the stripe areas next to the appliquéd flowers is outstanding. Oh my…so much work!
Joy…so glad you had another successful delivery 🥹
Next years UFDC Convention will be inSeattle I was told. I’ve never been to the NW so maybe if my other person is doing well I may try to go. The St. Louis one was very good from what I hear…will see when our Doll Club members report in 🤗
