Hi everyone,
I received a nice email and picture from Cheryl, who recently asked me about the AG denim dress I had shown when I was selling doll clothes. She asked if she could buy it for her Zwergnase Malin doll… This is what she emailed me…
Hi Jeanne.
Well, it only took 3 weeks to get 3 new buttons sewn on the AG Denim dress, get it pressed and take a photo of Malin in it! LOL But what a 3 weeks it’s been!! A friend and I went to Syracuse, NY, for a 3-day Sasha doll Festival. We had a delightful time!
I found the wooden buttons at Hobby Lobby and really like them on the dress. Malin is happy because the dress matches her eyes and the buttons go with her hair. :~) I love the style on her. Thanks so much for selling the dress to me, Jeanne! It’s perfect!!
Cheryl
So happy you found some buttons you liked and especially happy it fit Malin! I can see she’s thrilled!
Another busy day around here, but I spent the evening in my sewing room and look what happened…
Here is the blouse I tried to make from a 70% reduced American Girl pattern… it was WAY too big in the neck area and the sleeves were actually too tight… hmmm…
When I saw it on her, I went straight to the computer and looked for a nicer fitting blouse… and that’s when I found Eve’s pattern… it was a no brainer and saved me LOTS of time…
I did change the sleeve and added a cuff with a few gathers… and I added some buttons today… with some Low Profile Ultra thin Velcro on the blouse. I didn’t want it sticking out even as much as a snap would…
It was easy to tuck this shirt tail hem into her panties and I had no trouble sliding her romper up…
Then I moved onto some boots for her… I didn’t know exactly what color I was going for, but looking through my stash of leather, I decided on this pretty brown pebbled one. I had a blue but it clashed with the color of her romper and I only had a bright yellow, which looked awful with the blouse… So brown it was…
I also wasn’t sure what kind of socks to put with them, so I just made a lace “sleeve” and slid it up her leg, then laced up the boots. Is that what you all meant by “socks?”
As I was taking these pictures, I realized I forgot to add the heel to her boots… oops… I’ll get that done tomorrow…
So this is what it looks like with the romper…
What else does she need now that you’ve seen the boots…
Thanks and see you tomorrow…
Blessings, Jeanne
Cheryl, that denim dress is a perfect fit for Malin, and the buttons are a nice touch. I can see why she likes it so much!!
Jeanne, that blouse (the original one, I mean) certainly didn’t work so well, with the neck too wide and the sleeves too tight! Not really a good look. The one you made is So much nicer–it fits well and looks beautiful with the romper! The boots are a nice touch. I think I’d be more inclined to use a soft knit fabric for the “socks”, though. I think it would be more in keeping with the entire casual outfit. (Besides, I would think that lace would make her legs itch! 😊)
Now, what’s next? A school bag to match her boots, or maybe a lunch bag or even a backpack? Or perhaps a sweater or light jacket to carry, in case the day turns cool. Fall will be here soon!
Sally, to answer your question, I did get a bit more done on the apron today, but not a lot. However, I got over to JoAnn’s and got the perfect off-white bias tape, so now I can Really get moving on it. Oh, and while I was there some pink denim jumped into my cart, and it will be nice for slacks for me, so some came home with me. It’s a bit more peachy a pink than I usually wear, but it’s a nice medium shade, the weight is what I like (not too thin, not too heavy), and best of all, it’s 100% cotton! (So much denim these days has Lycra in it–UGH!)
Charlotte, thanks for the update, and congratulations on the successful visit to Joann’s. Sounds like you’re really ready to get cranking, and I am SO looking forward to an apron pic, or anything you sew!
Is next month 4H judging?
Actually, 4H judging is This month! Entry day for sewing is the 20th, and for baking it’s the 23rd (and I’ll be there both days); the fair itself starts on the 26th and runs thru Labor Day, so I will probably be there at least a couple of days in there, also.
Charlotte, what do you think of the Siblie Gigi?
I think she’s cute! But pre-orders start at 7 a.m. my time (yawn), and I don’t know that I’ll be up in time!
That said, I actually prefer the Ten Ping Siblie (even though I own the RRG Gigi). I was bidding on one on ebay but she went for over $370, and I thought that was a Bit more than I wanted to spend! Maybe some day…
When Ten Ping Siblie was released for pre-order, I didn’t find out until 12 hours AFTER she sold out! Boo hiss….
First, I was puzzled about that denim dress you bought, Cheryl. At first I thought it was a dress Jeanne had made, and I couldn’t figure out why you were changing the buttons! Oh, it was from the sale Jeanne had from that bin of Goodwill finds! I do like the wooden buttons, they are perfect for the dress!
Yes, you did a wonderful job of changing the blouse pattern to fit Rozen, Jeanne! It has the perfect fit now and works so well under the romper.
Oh, I must say that I really like the lace “socks” within that outfit. Not all lace is scratchy! I think they look darling! If there is anything that bugs me, it is trying to get shoes or boots over a pair of socks, when the boots or shoes barely fit a bare foot! I think that sleeve thing is genius!
The boots are just the thing she needs and , gee is this a back to school outfit? A book bag would be nice for that! Maybe a triangle scarf for her head, or a pretty bow, …..or both?
Those are called “boot toppers”. Every little girl needs a little bit of lace. I think they look really cute. My Rozen saw the outfit and is giving me that look….. I said, “We’ll see…..” 🙂
Love the blouse and romper. The boots are awesome. I think she should have a little basket for collecting fall leaves, fall apples or something like that. Love your work!
Dear Jeanne, the outfit is adorable. I like the lacy sock tops. Brown is the perfect color for the boots. The Mama will be able to use the boots with many other outfits.
As to what to pair with the outfit, I think a book would be nice. I can see her wearing this outfit when she goes to the library for a meet the “children’s book author” event.
Cheryl’s improvements on her dress definitely enhance it. Her little cutie looks so sweet.
Elaine…your idea of a butterfly with this outfit is perfect. She could be holding a butterfly net😉
This is butterfly season…so many in our yard this week🦋
You whip out those shoes soooo fast! This will be another super cute ensemble!
I am thinking about September! I don’t usually love a romper but this on just fits the mood perfectly. The colors are great on Rozen but I can see this on Hannah too. I think the touch of lace softens the strong colors of autumn. Those boots are great, you are becoming quite the cobbler.
I am limited to my phone but see three emails from France, in French. I am thinking Iris and Petunia. 🤗 Always good to come home to new dolls.
We have found the rain. We have had thunderstorms every night. The first night I was in the restaurant powder room when the lights went out. Last night the power went out right after we ordered and never came back on. Thankfully we found a table elsewhere and were able to have my friend’s birthday celebration. We can’t get a drop of the wet stuff in NC.
Happy weekend to all!
How interesting. I too received several, actually four emails in French, of which I haven’t been able to track as of yet. I hope it is for Petunia. 🙂 Maybe our girls are traveling together. Hope they have good seats. 🙂
And no canceled flights! ✈️
Yes, Petunia and Iris have shipped from France. My Miss Louise is dazzling the customs folks in Queens right now. And tomorrow morning is Gigi.
The Russian exclusive offered in May was Talia and she caused a lot of noise on FB. I just looked at the archive page, and Russia had a Natalia in July. Interestingly enough, Talia was made for a Russian store, not on the website of “where to buy”, and the woman who owns that shop is the mother of the girl who won the doll creating contest with her rendition of the Fan Club Kelly doll.
So much for RR intrigue. 😖😆
The sophisticated outfits seem to go to Russia. I hope you were able to get them. Good bit of sleuthing going on there.
Well, Debbie, it now turns out, according to Derf, that RR will create another Talia with different colors in 2-4 months. They DO listen.
Cheryl’s, Malin, looks like she is all set for back to school. I like the new buttons as well. Glad it fit her. 🙂
I think the boot toppers are cute, but maybe next time I’d like to see a full sock with cotton lace around the top. Love that vintage touch.
Couple of dolls heading here, but difficult to track. They may surprise me which isn’t necessarily a good thing. 🙂
Hi Jeanne, It amazes me how fast you get things created, Wow! I think this little red headed girl needs a Butterfly in her hand. You can probably get them from Hobby Lobby. That would look so beautiful and add interest to your creation. Good Luck with this listing on Ebay. Love, Elaine
Thank you, Jeanne, for sharing the photo of Zwergnase Malin in the delightful denim AG dress you sold us. Many thanks, too, to all those who commented so approvingly on the replacement buttons. You’ve now seen the best of my sewing skills! LOL Thankfully, Jeanne’s blog keeps encouraging me to make a few items for my dolls.
I’ve loved all 3 of the Fashion Friends romper sets you’ve recently created, Jeanne! The blouse for the current one is truly wonderful. My Rozen is looking at this set very longingly . . .
Jeanne, Rozen is lookin’ rarin’ to go back to school. The toppers are cute and easy to put on, making the boots less challenging. As some have suggested, a school bag, a head scarf, and Elaine’s suggestion of a butterfly is awfully cute. Always fun to see each outfit evolve! 🥰
Hi Jeanne,
I just lost my entire comment…Dagnabbit! I should know by now that writing my comment in my email is better and makes for a less frustrated Ingrid. I’ve never accidentally lost what I’ve written and somewhere there is a spell check feature, if only I could remember how to use it! hahaha anywho…
I’m not familiar with Zwergnase dolls. I’ll have to research them. Oh dear I may be in trouble! Looks like this sweet girl of Cheryl’s is close to the same size as an AG. I like her face she reminds me of some of my childhood dolls. The denim dress fits well and the buttons are a nice touch. Thanks for sharing your sweet girl Cheryl.
Jeanne, I love this romper set. Practice definitely makes perfect! The shirt looks great and brown was a great choice for the boots, it makes them very versatile. Since you asked… I see Rozen with a big bow in her hair and a basket for leaf hunting. The colors say Autumn IMHO.
Thank you so much for the gift!!! I was floored when I opened the box! It’s such a pretty gift, I love the presentation. You make it hard to use it but I will because I LOVE chocolate brownies with nuts! Yum!!!
Soooo what’s going on at Ingrid’s place?? Well… Mom refuses to move. Dad says she doesn’t have a choice. I’m stuck in the middle. Mom found out there was a snake in our garage. She has a fear which I understand but now wants absolutely nothing to do with my house. So we are back to house hunting. In the meantime I am once again looking after my youngest Grand Dominic five days a week all day long, trying my best to be there for Mom and Dad whenever they need me. Recently there was a problem… Hubby and I call it the Microwave mess. Dad called saying his Microwave had stopped working. Did you check the electric panel Dad? Yes I checked it. So we drove the 40 minutes it takes to get there to find that it was unplugged… dad said he unplugged it because it wouldn’t turn on and he was afraid it might start a fire so he unplugged it. Smart move I said. Hubby plugged it in set the clock, heated some water and
it worked fine. We visited and left. Next morning another call… the microwave is not working again. This time we stopped at Walmart in our town (Lockport) bought an inexpensive table top model. Got to Mom and Dads, unpacked it and found it was damaged. The door wouldn’t open because of the huge dent in the side. (no the box wasn’t damaged) Seeing the look on hubby’s face hurt my heart. Poor hubby took it to the closest Walmart to return it for another, only to find the Niagara Falls Walmart service desk closes at 6pm! What?! It wasn’t even 5 yet. Hubby bought another and this one was fine and Dad was happy. Finally a working microwave and easy to use to boot!!! Wonderful right? Until the following morning. Dad on the phone again. He called the home Depot, talked to a guy because he decided he needed a Samsung model so that it matched all of the other Samsung Kitchen appliances. (shaking my head and feeling sorry for the Home depot guy that got stuck talking to Dad… he’s rather hard of hearing, refuses to wear a hearing aid and from time to time reverts to speaking Dutch and doesn’t realize it) We (hubby and I) realized we needed to make the trek once again to Grand Island. Six hours later hubby and Dad had visited three stores, located the same model that had pooped out on them after 6 years of use (don’t get me started!) and had actually managed to install it without to much trouble. We were both tried and after warming up some dinner I had brought for them we left. Fast forward two days. The power went out at Mom and Dads place and Dad couldn’t figure out how to set the clock, because of this the microwave wouldn’t work… Back to Grand Island… Half way there Dad calls and proudly exclaims he’s figured it out and we don’t need to come… but we were on the way and had dinner for them sooo we visited briefly and bid them good night.
I don’t normally post negative stuff but the microwave mess had hubby and I laughing out loud and yes hubby did return the dented one back to the store in Lockport. The service desk in the Walmart in Lockport NY is opened whenever the store is open!
Hugs to everyone!
Ingrid
That outfit is perfect on Rozen. Love the lace “socks.” The colors are great for early fall and that blouse is really wonderful. I like this for a market outfit, so I’d choose a fabric shopping bag as an accessory, and the butterfly idea is a definite. You figured out an easy way to manage a 3 cornered scarf for Lian, so maybe something similar for Rozen? The boots are exactly right. This is another winner.
By the way, the pockets on the blue overalls that came with the blouse pattern are a great idea for a different outfit.
