American Girls Rebecca and Elizabeth are sharing a pair of Vintage made Pantalettes…

REMINDER:
Don’t forget… tonight (Saturday), the dress set Stella was modeling on Ebay, will end. I enjoyed making this one SO much and it’s kind of special because I made my first pair of “decent” leather Mary Jane’s and a fun purse! I will miss seeing Stella smiling at me with her shoes on and her purse on her shoulder, but it appears some other Ruby Red Fashion Friends are wanting it. Stella took it off with no problems…telling me, “It’s okay, I know there will be more for me to model…” If you want to see the auction, you can click on the picture at the right side bar, or you can click HERE

I think it was Kathie who gave me this wonderful remnant of the bottom of some vintage dress with such pretty lace and tucks on it. I’m not positive, but I’m pretty sure it was her. I think I used part of this piece on something once before… maybe another pair of pantalettes, but I decided to make another pair and use them under this dress. The fabric is a creamy color and matches the lace on the bodice… (Joy, you thought it was white? it’s not, it’s cream… I could show a picture of it on a white piece of paper and you could instantly see that it’s cream.)

The fabric in this remnant is so delicate… it truly was like sewing a kleenex. The pantalettes have a wonderful design and even though it’s not seen “very much” it’s still there if the wind catches her skirt. The fabric was so delicate, I decided to just stitch some lightweight soft stretch elastic to the top edge of them… I think a casing with elastic running through it would have been too hard on this fabric.

This IS vintage fabric and there is one tiny pin dot of “age” or “rust” on the front of these pantalettes… but it couldn’t be helped. The winner MAY be able to turn them around backwards if it really bothers you, but it’s hardly seen…

This is a little bit better picture of Rebecca than last night’s shots.

I know a few of you wanted to see Elizabeth possibly model this dress… well, I dressed her up in it and she looks lovely as always…

She’s all neck and looks so graceful.

Here she is in the pantalettes… I thought Elizabeth was my “fattest bottomed” doll, but Rebecca was a bit chubbier than her…

She started to fall over once and I caught her, but it shifted her necklace to the back and in the rest of my pictures it doesn’t hang down in front but it covers the seam in her neck… and that’s okay too.

I have missed fiddling with Elizabeth’s hair and will have to do something nice for both girls hairstyles and accessories.

Thanks everyone,
I’ll see you Monday,
Blessings, Jeanne

Well, those pantalettes are just Extra special, Jeanne, since they are made from vintage fabric and trims! Just lovely.

You know, Rebecca looks good in that dress, but I think it’s even prettier on Elizabeth! Just brings out her “peaches and cream” complexion.

I see that “Almost Summer” has four bids now–congratulations! Maybe there’ll be a last-minute bidding war–I wouldn’t be surprised!

In response to Dorothy’s (in PA and the world) question yesterday, about the lace–I’m sorry, Dorothy; I misunderstood.

Technically the lace Style is “edging”. When Jeanne uses it this way, it’s called an “overlay”, because it is laid Over the fabric. Hope that helps!

    1. No matter who wears that dress it will be lovely. Elizabeth likes wearing it too and she is stunning in most anything. I may have sent you that fabric for the pantaloons. Slips from that time were so elaborate. Imagine all that lace inserted and a zillion tiny pleats or tucks to be hidden under a dress?
Well it has been in the mid 90s one day this week and this morning it is 48😵‍💫 The pansies are happy but the tomatoes like it hot!
Found a Tiny Terri Lee at an Estate Sale yesterday. She is cuter than the full sized ones and has all her original clothes. So she gets cleaned up today.

Not sure why my comments landed on Charlottes message 🥴🤔 but Happy Saturday Charlotte😉

    2. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Charlotte, thank you so much. Overlay, that makes perfect sense. I don’t know why I really wanted to know that. Hmmm, maybe it will turn up in a crossword puzzle and I will be proud of myself for remembering.

  2. Linda in St. Louis

Wow, those pantalettes are stunning, Jeanne! They certainly are one of a kind, which makes the whole outfit very special! They make the dress look “finished” and give it a Regency vibe.

I have a different opinion of who looks better in the dress than Charlotte. I like Rebecca in it best because of the contrast with her hair and the colors of the material. While Elizabeth does look good in it, I feel that her light coloring kind of washes out the colors of the dress too. That’s just me, and I am sure others might think differently. Just a difference of opinion.

Well, here we go again, a rainy day to look forward to. At least we aren’t getting snow, like Marilyn!

  3. Joy in northern CA

Always fun to see Elizabeth, not that Rebecca isn’t pleasant as well. Wouldn’t want to hurt any dolly feelings. 🙂 Loving the fabric and the girls are modeling it so nicely. I guess when I mentioned hoping that the pantalettes matched the lace color, I should have said white. Cream to me is always slightly off white. But, that is just me. 🙂
So, has Jeanne ever made a Hawaiian dress for the girls? Long, flowered with a train and maybe ruffles? I love that style and somewhere in the past saw a pattern. I’d love to see a dress like that. Maybe down the line, because it would be so lovely for summer for the modern girls. Photos on the green carpet for sure. 🙂
Well, the twins arrived at Mather airbase in CA from KY yesterday and then went to Sacramento. This morning, the tracking shows they were taken to Oakland and then driven north to Santa Rosa. Yay. That is a feat because in the past, packages have hung around in Sac for days. However, tracking still says Monday delivery. But, they have arrived and are ready to hop on a truck the last few miles to get here. Maybe they will persuade the driver to bring them today. Except, there is no plan to escape the eagle eyes of other person. Woe is me.
Hope everyone has a great weekend with no snow, heat, or torrential rains. Here, just some smoke from a hopefully under control fire on the north coast. 🙁

Good luck, Joy! Can’t wait to hear if you successfully pull it off “Mission Impossible”.

    2. Linda in St. Louis

Joy, American Girl made a Holoku dress for Nanea, very pretty! There are a couple on EBay, but I don’t think you can get it from AG any more. Of course, if you can sew, that would be a good way to get one.

    3. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Joy, thanks for the update. I can’t wait to hear how the “mission” plays out (laugh).

Hi Dorothy in PA and the World,
Yes, I know the costumes are not period in P & P with Greer Garson, but it was the first Jane Austen movie I saw as a young pre- teen before I knew a lot about historical fashion so I can overlook it.

Rebecca and Elizabeth both look lovely in the dress and pantalettes. The fabric is equally beautiful on brunettes and blondes. looking forward to the hair embellishment. I enjoy seeing all your creations, Jeanne, but my favorite by far are the Colonial, Regency, pioneer, Civil War, and Victorian/Edwardian eras. The older, the better.

    1. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Laura, now you have me thinking. What was my first Jane Austen movie? It was probably P&P with Jennifer Ehle.

I do like the version of P&P that you do. I remember reading that Colin Firth was reluctant to play Mr. Darcy because he felt that he would fall short of the performance of Laurence Olivier. I think they both did an excellent job with their roles. And they both had beautiful leading ladies.

  5. Sally from Colorado

Jeanne, what beautiful fabric. It reminds me of the little peach rosebud fabric of a LD outfit and the AG regency you made long ago that I so, so love. This is just stunning. And those pantalettes? I wouldn’t worry about the spot. Anyone who wins this should be thrilled to the core to have vintage fabric pantalettes. BTW, I like it best on Rebecca, too. My poor Rebecca is languishing in a box with several AGs that will be heading to the consignment shop, sooner, I hope, than later.
Been enjoying everyone’s pictures and comments. Thank you all for sharing.
Lately we have had very warm temps, but last night, we got 8” of snow. We were supposed to go to the Springs today but they got 13”. So home we have stayed. It is almost half melted now, but a hard hit on the Iris that were about to dazzle. Dazzle won’t be happening this year. But we sure needed this moisture. The creeks were running low to dry here in town.
    Have a super weekend.

      Hi Sally,

Poor Rebecca. Your getting rid of your AG’s? I have a feeling that you probably had PC/AG dolls certainly back in the early 1990’s when I was buying them for my daughter and sneaking in clothing and accessories that I wasn’t sure she was as thrilled with as others, but that I loved. Well, that was my rationale for buying them along with things I knew she really wanted I wouldn’t come to the realization that adult could have non-childhood dolls for well over a decade. I hope your girls find lovely new homes.
Glad to see you back on the sofa with us!

      1. Sally from Colorado

        ❤️🙏
Laura, my enthusiasm for the AG’s raged for many years. Then I moved on to the Little Darlings. Now I have RRFF overrunning the house (50 already here and Anna, Lisa, Louise, Venus and Petunia arriving between this month and August. You could say I got “the bug” really bad! ) Sadly, I have a ton of AG’s, too. I think 10 or 12 will more than suffice! I am so happy you are still having such fun with yours. If my dolls go to homes where the owner has fun with them, that will be a real pleasure for me.
Yes, glad to be “back” with all you lovely sisters!! Thanks so much.
        🙂

When I first saw the pantalettes, I thought, “There will be people bidding just to get those pantalettes.” Then you added the dress. I thought, “It couldn’t look nicer, even on Elizabeth,” but it does look just as nice. I am looking forward to seeing their hairstyles. Hm — could one model a simple bonnet and the other a pretty hair ornament?

Our weather was like OmaKathie’s — 89 one day, 44 and snow the next — there was little accumulation here, but up the mountain a little, a friend got 10″. I’m hoping for more today and in the high mountains — snow is much nicer than fire, and spring runoff helps feed the Colorado river and the Southwest. I always feel that we are somehow responsible for getting them water.

Good luck on Stella’s dress. I have high hopes for it.

  7. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, you have made another wonderful ensemble. Both of your models look adorable wearing it.

  8. Barbara in SE Texas

It’s 5:44 PM here and this is the first I’ve been on my computer today. Don’t know if anyone will be reading this but I just had to comment on the incredibly beautiful pantalettes. It’s almost a shame to hide them under the dress. I like the dress on both Rebecca and Elizabeth. They both bring out something different in the outfit.

I love hearing about everyone’s weather. At this time of year here in SW Texas weather is pretty predictable, although our weather this May has been hotter than usual. I was glad to hear there was snow in Colorado. It gave me hope that we might get some cooling off here from it. I’ll have to check the ten-day forecast. I think we are supposed to get some rain early next week that might have a cooling effect. Or it just might contribute to what we call “air you can wear”. But May a few years ago we had a serious cold front come through late in the month. It was a beautiful, sunny day but terribly windy and the windchill was enormous. It was the day of our church Spring Fling. Many of the vendors packed up and left early. It was difficult to keep their items from blowing away and it was so cold a coat and gloves weren’t even helping.

I keep an eye on the Bethlehem, PA, weather (where I grew up). This weekend they are having a heat wave. It is 90 degrees right now and sunny. Tomorrow it is supposed to be 88. A lot of people there do not have A/C but I could deal with that when the nighttime temps are in the 50s as they are there – rather than the high 70s and sometimes 80s as they are here. I looked ahead and next week they will be in the 60s and 70s again. I can live vicariously.

    1. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Barbara, it’s hot where I am in PA also. Well we can’t blame Phil. He said we would have 6 weeks of Winter weather and we did so now Summer is here (laugh).

I love that you keep an eye on “home.” I am sure one day you will get back for a visit and we will have a tea party, a dolly tea party (smile).
