Some Easter memories and treasures…

Hi everyone,
I received some pictures from a few readers and wanted to share them with you. The first group of pictures are from Sissy… she has a 16″ My Meadow Mae doll and has 2 different Easter sets for her. I think you’ll like both of them. They look so soft and little girlie! :o) Thanks Sissy! This was her email…

Here are a couple of photos of outfits I made and sold for Meadow’s Mae. I just loved the old fashioned print on the apron fabric of the dress..

The Jumper is made from a vintage Daisy Kingdom fabric. You probably remember when they had those printed out fabrics that had a bunny you could make and its clothes? I bought a bunch of them and love to use the prints to make clothes for my dolls. I used the little heart prints for the pockets.

I do remember the Daisy Kingdom fabrics very well and made a few of them myself! I’ll have to dig out my pictures… they aren’t on my phone but just pictures in my stash somewhere. Thanks for sharing…

The second person to share pictures with me is Laura… she has some things to show us that are very special to her… I hope you’ll enjoy seeing her treasures. This is what Laura emailed me…

I don’t know if you have posts planned already or if you were looking for Easter type. If so, I thought I’d share my Easter/ spring treasures that I shared last year again for anyone who missed them. 😁 It’s a mixed arrangement of things, some very old and some from my childhood.

From left to right a vase that belonged to my grandfather’s family in Germany. We’re fairly certain he brought it with him when he immigrated in 1927.

The little short vase/bowl in front sat on my grandparent’s coffee table for as long as my mom and I can remember. She thinks it was the first knick knack they bought when they got married. Probably a dime store special.

The flocked bunnies were mine as a child as well as the fliegenpilz with bugs music box. My great-aunt sent that from Germany to me.

1940’s- 1950’s ladies will recognize the Devilbiss perfume atomizer my mom had as a teen.

The paper egg was made in West Germany. My great aunt gave it to me as a young child. She was born in 1901 and received it as a small child one Easter.

The little bunny is actually a Hummel. It’s been around forever as well. I’ve never seen another Hummel figurine like it., just the typical children like the other ones we have.

The vase with the lavender in it and the small painted Victorian one sat on the ledge above my grandmother’s kitchen sink. My grandfather would always bring in small flowers from the yard for her. They held snowdrops, scillas, tiny daffodils, forget-me-nots, lily of the valley, roses, holly etc depending on the time of year. The paper cross was an Easter Sunday school gift my mom received.

The hummingbird egg was the last Easter gift my grandmother gave to me. She had bought it months before and my grandfather gave it to me on Easter after she died in January. It’s super precious to me.

Finally, the painted glass and pewter vase belonged to someone on my grandfather’s side. Sadly, we’re not certain who as we can’t match a middle name and there are two Carolines. It is engraved 1861. All my photos should enlarge with no problem. Thank you for letting me share.

I’m late sharing from the tea set posts, but thought I would now. This is the Meissen tea set that belonged to my great- aunt (maternal grandfather’s sister). She always called it a tea set although the spout is really more for coffeepots. She never mentioned a cup being broken so I think this was intended for tea with one good friend. It is the “Blue Onion” pattern which really isn’t onions at all but asters and peaches.

The Meissen mark on the bottom which is crossed swords. This set is marked with the mark used in 1815, so it dates between 1815 and 1924 when the next mark was introduced I assume.

Blessings,
Laura

Thank you Laura, AND Sissy! We had sewer problems today (ugh) and I was hoping to get started on the next dress, but *alas* I was helping my hubby outside and in the basement…

Blessings to you all,
See you tomorrow,
Jeanne

Jeanne, I hope by now your sewer problems are over. I am wondering if the clog is perhaps really close to where the line meets the city sewer line, and you might need a longer “snake” to find it. I hope it won’t involve digging up your yard!

Sissy, I love the outfits you made. That old-fashioned print on the apron is darling, and I love what you did for the pockets on the Daisy Kingdom romper. (I remember Daisy Kingdom very well, and have been in their store in Portland, OR, a number of times while it was still in existence. It was always a fun and tempting place to shop! Downstairs was the main fabric area, plus a lovely ribbon department, and a big button department, too. Upstairs was, as I recall, formal wear or perhaps home dec fabrics (maybe both) plus their “outlet” store!! Ah, yes, large bags full of stuff came home with me more than once!!)

Thank you, Laura, for sharing your treasures and their history with us once again. I love your tea set (although I do agree, it looks more like a coffee server to me). I will try to remember to get out my tea set and take a picture. Freida has her new dress on and is impatiently waiting her turn to model, too, but of course there’s not daylight in the middle of the night, so she will have to wait just a bit more! And then…Joy will get a bunch of pictures! (I’ve been saving up…)

    1. Thank you so much, Charlotte.
I, too, remember Daisy Kingdom. My daughter never wore any of the fabric although I thought they were sweet, but preferred plain or flowered fabric for pinafores. We did have a number of the patterns. A friend of mine dressed her two girls (one my daughter’s age and one a year older) in their dresses and pinafores for years.

Maybe it is too early for me to think clearly, but I was under the impression that you, Jeanne, made those darling outfits! So, it was Sissy! What adorable outfits on a darling doll, Sissy! I love the way you cut out the pictures from the fabric to use! That bunny on the bodice of the apron is darling! The romper is SO cute, with the little heart pockets! And those perky bows are the cherry on top! You are an excellent seamstress!

Laura, as always, we can count on you to show your treasures you have so lovingly kept and display in your lovely home! What a treasure trove of memories, and so wonderful that you seem to know the “stories” about them!

That Blue Onion tea set is beautiful, and I think it could even go with today’s settings! Pair it with plain white dishes with yellow place mats or tablecloth, a beautiful spring flower centerpiece, and there you have an Easter or spring table setting! Love the tops of the creamer and tea pot, which are flower buds!

so sorry to hear you have sewer problems, Jeanne, on top of all this rain we are getting! Hope everything works out!

    1. Thank you so much, Linda! I really love the flower buds as well. We never use the pieces, just display them in the spring and then the rest of the year they live in the curio cabinet, but can still be enjoyed.

  3. Hi Jeanne,
I have never written you before, but I’ve been reading your blog for years. I am always inspired by your little tiny dresses for the little girls. I finally have my own tiny doll, Eveianna, a L’li Dreamer doll. After sewing for American Girl for so long, the 10” doll dresses are very different! I am finally getting used to the little sleeves. Now I need to figure out how to attach the pictures! Lol.
    Happy Easter!
    Judy

    1. Hi Judy,
Thank you for letting me know how much you enjoy the blog…and congratulations on receiving Eveianna! She is really sweet! As far as pictures go, you can send them to my email…which is up at the top of my blog under “contact me”. Let me know if you have any troubles…
Hope to see something from you soon.
      Blessings, Jeanne

Judy, I also have an Evianna. I’m not much for drafting patterns myself and I keep hoping some of my favorite pattern people will have patterns for Evianna but not so far. So I was wondering are you doing the patterns yourself or, if not, what doll patterns are you using?

      1. Barbara, I have a Boneka pattern. It needs to be slightly bigger in the back and the cuffs need to be wider.

I have a few Boneka patterns too. I never thought of trying those. Thanks! And thanks for the heads up on the needed pattern adjustments..

Loved seeing Sissy’s Mae. Love those Meadow kids. What adorable outfits specially cut to show the great vintage print. Fun. 🙂
Laura’s family treasures are wonderful. So nice to have special memories of family. The Meissen set is lovely and so nicely displayed on that gorgeous inlaid table. 🙂
I’d love to see Judy’s girl. She will have to send an email to Jeanne with an attachment for those. 🙂
Looks like I may get the belt finished today for the other Easter dress I’ve been working on. Yay. I also have two of the peek inside eggs finished as well. I think we might have a clear day, so perhaps I can get a photo of them and the girls. 🙂 Always late as usual. 🙂

    1. Thank you so much, Joy. The inlaid table is actually one of a pair of antique ones that my dad found and gifted to me just like the Eastlake bookcase that I used for my Easter treasures and other displays. I don’t mind “adopting” other antique furniture to go with the family antique stuff I have if It’s lovely. 🙂
Looking forward to seeing your dolls and dresses. I definitely remember the peek inside eggs. Who cares if they are late… it prolongs the fun.

Sissy, your Mae looks so adorable. I love the bigger Meadow dolls but they remain a bit out of my price range. The outfits you made are so cute. I always loved the Daisy Kingdom patterns and fabrics and made several for my daughter when she was little and made mother/daughter dresses for us one year at Easter. I still have the remains of several of the fabrics and the other day I ran across some of the pre-printed collars for the doll clothes. I plan on making something using them soon.

Laura you are so blessed to have so many things to celebrate memories. I have nothing from my family but David’s mother was really good at saving things and passing them on. Unfortunately I don’t have a really good place to display them since I don’t have a china closet or hutch so they stay in boxes in the closet hoping I will have someone to pass them on to in the future.

Jeanne, I hope your sewer problem has been solved. We’ve had so many problems with roots in the lines in our mobile home park that we bought our own sewer machine a few years ago. It has saved us a bundle both for the park and our home. Before we bought it I called a plumber who was just a few miles down the road. This was several years ago and they wanted $300 to just bring the machine onto our property. Add to that the manhours to operate it and it was ridiculous. I have no idea what it would cost today.

Looking forward to seeing all the pictures from my sofa sisters. I will be sending a picture of the three girls who got Easter dresses this year (Evianna, LD Greer Adele and Siblie Sydney). Greer Adele has a coat and coordinating dress outfit. One of the patterns from one of my Russian friends.

    1. Thank you so much, Barbara. I do definitely treasure the things I have. Unfortunately, we lost a lot of family things to my grandfather’s second wife who auctioned off the houses’ contents a few days after the funeral and then vanished. I know he would have never expected that to happen. It had been willed to my mom and me, but we were unaware until we returned a couple of weeks later to an empty house and a complete shock. My grandfather and grandmother saved so many neat things and to have someone else take them away was very sad. My grandfather was just lost without my grandmother and I guess an easy target.

      1. Barbara in SE Texas

This is so sad. Sounds like something my sister-in-law would do. That’s why David’s mom packed up a lot of stuff and gave it to us long before she died. She knew what would happen. Shel also gave us her piano. She had bad scoliosis due to meningitis when she was a teenager and could no longer sit and play comfortably. After Mom passed away David’s sister was trying to figure out what happened to the piano. David and I played dumb. She told us she asked Mom about it one time and she said she couldn’t remember having a piano. Dumb like a fox.

  6. Loved seeing the pictures from Sissy and Laura! The outfits Sissy made are so sweet and fit so well and yes, didn’t we all love the prints from Daisy Kingdom? I remember making my first three Granddaughters dresses from those prints one Easter.
Laura you can show those pictures every year…love seeing them and the stories that go with each item. The Tea/Coffee set is wonderful. Hope you have the stories written down for each item.
Jeanne…Good luck with the sewer problem….yuck..Never a fun project. Seems we always had problems at Christmas…so finally just had the drains cleaned out the first of Dec every year😳😉

    1. Thank you so much, Kathie. How very sweet of you to say. I do have the stories written down.

  7. I have enjoyed the last couple of days seeing the pictures everyone has sent in.
I didn’t get around to commenting on them but it was interesting and fun to see the photos of others. It’s also fun to know we all share the love of our dolls and their outfits.
Sissy, thank you for sharing your pretty doll in her adorable playful outfits. She really portrays a toddler and it portrays how little ones sure like pictures of characters on their clothes. Sweet outfits as well as the stuffed bunnies.

Laura, your treasures are so unique. And the fact they are family heirlooms make them even more precious.
What a blessing to hold the very items your relatives held and enjoyed at one time. Each seem so delicate. The vase is beautiful!! I like the other one on the other end too.
I like how sweet you have your bunnies nestled together. They almost look real. And the girl figurine – so delicate.
The tea set…is beyond words. How special is that. How unique that the flower is where you pick up the lids ! Just a beautiful set. Thank you for sharing your treasures- Easter items and the tea set. Tea sets are so much fun.
And Jeanne, your lovely RRFF outfit is so pretty, soft in color for spring and the hat and purse are perfect additions. The handmade hat you made just blows my mind. I love the lighter color and the flowers you chose on it are beautiful.
It’s been fun seeing all the pictures sent in the last couple of days. Thank you.
Hope the sewer problem is fixable.

    1. Thank you so much, Paula, for all of your sweet comments! Yes, tea sets are so much fun.

  8. Hi Sissy, your Little Mae is just the cutest thing. The outfits are just precious on her. I love the heart shaped pockets and her sweet bunny friends. thank you so much for sharing.
