A few alterations on Julie’s dress set…

First of all, thank you to the winner of the dress Rozen and Sara modeled… If you are reading this, I appreciate your generous bid very much! There ended up being 672 views on the dress, and I am thankful for every one of you who looked at the dress! :o)

Now, on to Julie’s dress set. There was quite the mixed bag of thoughts about the dress… sleeves too long, buttons too big, skirt fabric too dark… what’s a girl to do? I am definitely going to have to take this dress outside… it just IS NOT showing up like I want it to be… I want you to see the fabrics the way I do in person.

Well, I started with the sleeves and did shorten them. I had already decided last night that they looked too long and was going to shorten them anyway…

This was them BEFORE…

…and AFTER…shortened about 3/8″.

I miraculously found 4 glass vintage buttons that were slightly smaller, so I changed the buttons too! I didn’t think I had 4 or 5 of the same kind in these glass buttons, but I did.

Then that brings us to the skirt… guess what? You’ll have to wait till tomorrow… my day got away from me and I didn’t get it finished… Oh, the skirt is on there, but it wasn’t hemmed yet and I wanted to wait until it was… so I put a piece of cardstock paper in front of it…

So what did I do today that kept me from sewing?

I was looking at more 70’s patterns in my pattern book and a few online, trying to decide on the skirt, looking at macrame chokers, looking for different buttons, looking for different skirt fabric, looking at Joann’s, looking at Hobby Lobby, and not making dinner until 8:00… eek!

So I’m heading to bed and hopefully, my mind won’t be racing as to what I should do…

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

First of all, congrats on the very successful auction of Sara’s/Rozen’s dress! Nice finish!!

Now as to Julie’s dress, I do like that the sleeves are a bit shorter; I think that, if the fabric had been really soft, like the cotton lawn you’ve used on a couple of things in the past, it wouldn’t have mattered so much, they would just have softly “puddled”…but with quilting cotton (which I assume this is), there’s more body, and they’re more likely to “pooch out” rather than softly puddle, making the length more noticeable.

But do you know…I never noticed the buttons yesterday! However, I do like the smaller ones better (now that some of the more observant sofa sisters have pointed it out! LOL).

Sneaky, hiding her skirt behind the cardstock!! But when I see it there, I’m rather hoping you used the light tan fabric for her skirt as well as the upper sleeves; I think it would be gorgeous like that. I know….some are liking the brown print better. Well, we’ll just have to wait and see!

Jeanne, the tiny tweaking that you did on the dress really make a difference, a good one! Not that the dress was awful, but I really like those pearl buttons better, and the sleeves look better too. As far as the skirt, before you mentioned that it was a piece of cardstock, I thought THAT was the skirt at first sight! I was pretty confused there for a moment! I do feel that the cardstock is easier on the eyes, more so than the dark brown. Well, nothing like waiting for a big reveal!

So, I guess I would have lopped off the sleeves even a bit more so they wouldn’t look so puffy, but definitely better. I know others like the buttons, but I’d like to see some contrast with black. And it looks like the top button has a chip on the bottom. 🙁 Instead of macramé for the choker, how about black lace? I’d like that as well. Can’t wait for the great skirt reveal. I like the fabric. 🙂
I’m still working on the Easter dresses for my RRFF girls. Woe is me. Late again. Thought I had it together, but the belts have been giving me fits,. Finally switched the decoration to the other and like it now. But, I need to find something I like for the first one. The shiny ribbon just isn’t doing it,
    On to Tuesday. 🙂

  4. Julie is looking pretty cute in her new dress. The sleeves do look better being a little less full. I definitely like the new buttons better, but when Joy mentioned a chip I had to enlarge and see. Yes, I think there is a chip at the bottom of the top one, unfortunately.
I, too, am hoping the skirt is the same as the khaki of the upper sleeves. Guess we’ll see tomorrow. We have had snow showers the past two days, but luckily it didn’t stay. This morning it was in the 30’s. brrr!

I actually liked the bigger buttons. Can’t wait to see what you’ve used for the skirt. I see a couple others liked the idea of the light brown floral you used for the upper sleeves. I really love that fabric.

David talked to his friend in Ohio last evening. I’ll have to ask if he mentioned the weather. Hard to imagine anyone in the U.S. is still getting freezing temps. Definitely will be a late spring for them.

Maybe the coral fabric made into a flounce at the bottom of the skirt with the lighter brown as the skirt? I have been thinking all day what you could have possible done, Jeanne! Can’t wait until tomorrow! I think you did open a can of worms with all these “suggestions”!

Congratulations on your auction of the Sara/Rozen spring dress. A lucky winner will have a Jeanne original! Speaking of Jeanne originals, I was catching up on the issues of Dolls magazine from the beginning of this year. In the Jan/Feb 2022 issue on pg 17, in the feature Collector Corner, is a photo of a collector’s dolls dressed for Christmas. MA Lissy is wearing an I Dream of Jean Marie creation! I am guessing this is the collection of a sofa sister. It was a beautiful Christmas scene. Kudos to both of you for being included in Dolls!

I spent a better part of the last two days searching for my senior prom picture. It was 1971 and I was wearing a chiffony long dress with long puffed sleeves. The print was Eastern inspired and the background color was brown! I remember wearing brown platform sandals with wooden soles. My hair was almost as long as Julie’s. I think I purged the picture when we moved. I can’t believe I don’t own Julie because all of her clothing and accessories remind me of my high school years, on second thought maybe that is why I don’t own Julie. : )

Debbie, the picture in “Dolls” was one I sent in. I meant to do the same for Easter but time got away from me. My MA Lissy loves her I Dream of Jeanne Marie creation and she looks so lovely wearing the beautiful outfit.

I guessed those were your dolls. Well done! Maybe a summer Collector’s Corner.

  8. I had to read your post really fast to see why you had changed the skirt fabric! So relieved to see it wasn’t fabric at all….you funny fooler ! Thank goodness ..that would be a disaster for the skirt. The top is pretty..so looking forward to the skirt!
This will be interesting to watch🤔😍
