Well, actually, truth be told, it was me who didn’t like the laces. I didn’t want it to look like that. All of them covered up too much of the print and it was too pretty to cover up… Last night at midnight they seemed like my only options. So this morning in some better light I started digging through all the places I have trims and ribbon…
Let’s just say I DO have lots of trims and ribbons… I’ve been sewing for a very long time…
My drawer is still this neat…
My silk ribbon stash…
Some rayon ribbon…
Sara was tired of all the searching and not finding the right color…but I just didn’t have the right color… the sheer ribbons didn’t work because the print showed through and most of my ribbons were too wide or not the right color.
After looking through all my ribbons and trims, I realized one thing… I probably should have made her dress sleeveless and then made her a felt wool jacket and embroidered some flowers on it! That would have been SO MUCH EASIER than all the searching I did. Next time I’m going to plan out the whole dress before I start.
So I gave up and told my hubby I HAD to go to town to see if there was some kind of a color that would go with this fabric. (Fortunately my hubby had a birthday card that needed to go out today AND Reuben was out of doggy biscuits.)
I found some ribbon at Hobby Lobby and brought the spool home. I sewed the buttons down the front of Sara’s dress and added the skirt. The snaps are all sewn on and it’s hemmed now.
…and so this is what it looks like with one of the ribbons tied around the waist…
…and this is a satin ribbon in a slighly lighter color…
I think I’ll include both ribbons for the winner…
The ribbon can be tied into a bow…but I’m planning on pre-tying a bow so it’s just a matter of snapping the back…
So I hope those of you who had their heart set on one of the choices I offered you yesterday, will forgive me for changing things mid stream…
See you tomorrow…
Blessings, Jeanne
First of all, congrats on another successful auction! I see that dear little outfit ended up with seven bids–pretty impressive!!
You know, Jeanne, you are absolutely right–the ribbon is Much better than something down the front. I think having lace down the bodice would have detracted from that beautiful print. Personally, I prefer the darker ribbon–it seems to pick up more of the blues in the print, to me, anyway, and the sparkle in the ribbon picks up on the metallic accents. It really makes the dress Sing!
Good choice ! I know what you mean about finding the right ribbon, it is a big frustration to me. The ribbons to me are all so bright today. I have some I have had for 20 or 30 years that are much more subtle but usually I donโt have enough for the project. It is a very small problem but it has to be right!!!!!! Now that is solved, on to the next step to a beautiful outfit! Have a good day!
Oh where oh where have the buttons gone? I can really only see them in the first photo. And, just to be picky, Is one of them off in alignment? I even held up a piece of paper because something seemed off. Maybe the tiny button sewed on top of another to bring them out more? I love the first ribbon. Great match and the print is such a lovely one. Sara looks radiant. ๐
Well, we broke a heat record yesterday, 89. Last day that it was this hot was in 1926. As I always say, crazy weather. Fortunately, this morning we have fog and it won’t be nearly as hot. The daffodils look pretty wilted. And on to possible sprinkles this weekend. ๐
Joy, I answered your question asking what size pattern I’m using for Evianna on yesterday’s blog. Right now I’m trying to resize a Wellie’s tights pattern to fit her. I used something I found on the internet to get the percentage and it worked for the legs but the foot is too small so I’m back to the drawing board.
TKS. I’ll go back and take a look. ๐ Did you see the dolls Magalie had up today? Very cute. ๐
I got the message from Magalie about the L’il Dreamers and went to her site. I saw that she is doing Bonekas too. Boy would I love to have one of them painted by her but they cost a whole lot more than her Little Darlings which I always felt were quite reasonable since you always get a darling outfit, socks and shoes with them. I wonder why the Bonekas are so much.
Oh goodness, I completely forgot to comment this morning! I too wonder where the tiny buttons are when you look at the dress as a whole. While I do love the ribbon at the waist, it just seems something is missing on the bodice or around the neckline. Maybe a little collar? I canโt quite put my finger on it, but it needs something!
For us, another day or rain and showers! Tomorrow is the end of that, and more trees and flowers are budding out! Now for some sunshine!
Maybe instead of the tiny buttons, a little brooch at the neckline? I think it would show better, and make a nice accent.
I love the ribbon, especially the first one. But I would include both because each one gives the dress a little different look. I’m having trouble seeing the buttons too. Maybe in person they show up better.
Joy, I hope you get some rain soon.
Linda I hope you get some sun. Maybe you and joy can work something out. If it were only that easy.
Another sunny and cool day here again today. i would love to have this kind of weather every day. It’s kind of like what we experienced in northern Michigan in August when we could sit in restaurants with the windows open and enjoy the breeze while we ate. No need for alfresco dining there.
Thanks for the great information on Evianna sizing. I have quite a few AE patterns. Just planning ahead. ๐
Dear Jeanne, I love the fabric. I like both colors of the waist sashes.
Doll shows and conventions are scheduled to take place in Summer and Fall. It is good to slowly move back to “normal” whatever that is with all of the things going on in the world.
Madame Alexander Doll Club – June 15 – Spokane, Washington
United Federation of Doll Clubs – August 2 – St. Louis, Missouri
Modern Doll Collectors Convention – September 21 – Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Personally, I love that the dress has puffed sleeves instead of sleeveless and hidden by a jacket. I like the first waist sash best. If this were mine, I would take the buttons off and make a peter pan collar in the same fabric and find a little charm either in the blue or a gold flower for a necklace.
The ribbon is much better.. however the buttons are lost in the print. You donโt need them as the beautiful fabric speaks for itself:)
Lovely, Jeanne!
Yesterday I was off to get the new Evusheld (or close) vaccine supplement for immune-system-impaired people. I wore a short sleeved blouse just for the shot, but it’s not a shot given in arms. If you need one, be prepared by wearing something suitable. It’s also 2 shots, one on each side.
Since I was out, I didn’t have a chance to vote for the scalloped lace — I hope it has another chance soon. It is true that the buttons don’t show a lot, but subtle details make outfits delightful. I’d leave them. I also like the puffed sleeves that show off your talent as a seamstress. You were wondering about a jacket — would a vest work? Or — you haven’t made a straw hat for awhile and they are always winners. The one thing that;s true is that you always come through. You’ve probably seen the direction you’ll go in before I got this written. I’ll see tomorrow.
