Cindy and Deb and I took another day to do a little shopping. There are some great places in Springfield Missouri to do a little “damage!” We didn’t do much, but we sure enjoyed this one place… called “The Vintage Peddler!” We actually found it late Wednesday by accident; made a wrong turn on a street and there it was. We are coming back home Thursday morning, so we had to hurry through this store and look at all it had to offer.
It was definitely a “girlie” store with many many booths, but it was SO much fun and there was SO much to look at. It was one of the neatest stores we had ever been in…(I just heard “talk” that we “may” try to sneak in another peek there in the morning before we head home.) The vintage was mixed with new but was so well displayed…
Here is some of what we saw…
I’m having some problems with my phone, so I’m going to call it quits but will show you the rest of my pictures when I get home…
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
What a fun store! I would love to shop there, too. (Did I see a dollhouse in the next-to-last picture?!) I’m so glad you are having this “sister time”, Jeanne! Enjoy!
It certainly does look like a place to find most anything, Jeanne! Yes, I did see a dollhouse too! Are those Japanese lanterns all clustered together near the ceiling in the one picture? So pretty, and look up from those lanterns, are those pictures on the ceiling?
It certainly would be fun to go there with someone who likes to go through those kind of places. Michael doesn’t really fill the bill with that, so we pretty much stick to Bass Pro when going to Springfield. Then there is Grizzly’s, that huge tool place there too. Not my kind of place, but I just stay in the car for that one!
On a side note to Joy, Flat River!! Very close to me and yes, it is now called Park Hills. We drove through that on our way to and from college. It was in the middle of nowhere when your mother was growing up, I’m sure! It still is a small town, but has grown a lot.
My mother and family moved from Flat River to St. Louis, where my grandfather was the jailer for the city St. Louis. When my mother was in 3rd grade, because of the pollution from burning coal that was affecting my mother’s health, my grandfather moved the family to California, where his brother was the superintendent of the steel mill here. He had a job waiting which was amazing because it was 1930, during the depression. And that is how I ended up a Californian. 🙂
Interesting, Joy! I was wondering how you got all the way out there!
Spotted the dollhouse. 🙂 Very similar to the one residing here. And I love those blue birds on the branch. They looked flocked? That would be a fun spring display piece. Couldn’t read the price tag though unless it is that 250.00 one above. Way out of my price range if so.
Sounds like the “Sister’s Rummage Group,” is alive and active. Fun.
Well, here I go boring you with another doll caper. This one with a slight twist. Because I have signed up for UPS, I can sign in and then when the delivery truck is sort of close, up will pop a map showing the current location of the truck. Very helpful for those on the sneaky side. The delivery was scheduled for 11:00 to 3:15, so I checked and the truck was still pretty far away so we went ahead and did some quick errands. I kept my eyes open on the way back thinking I might spot the truck, but no, didn’t appear. After our return, I again checked the follow the truck, and it was actually parked in front of the house of an acquaintance several blocks away. And there it remained. Is the driver on a coffee break? Even refreshing didn’t move that truck. Map must be stuck. Other person was playing on his phone and laying on the couch very near the front door. Soon I heard snoring. Still no truck. I kept hearing noises and must have jumped up a million times running to the bedroom window to check the front mat for the suspect package. No truck, no package, and since it was after the 3:15 delivery window, the map disappeared. 🙁 Then, I heard “the truck!” Other person was stirring. Oh no. Still not sure if the package had really arrived, I tiptoed into the kitchen and peered out the window to see the truck driver going down the steps and back to the truck. Other person went into the office. Will he stay there or be back with something? I had to act quickly. The “Jaws” music began playing. Carefully pried open the front door and peered out. Down the steps and on the landing was the “box!” What’s with that? Not even by the door? Took a chance. Ventured out the door and down the steps. Snatched the box and was back up the steps as fast as a stealth rocket. Peeked inside the door and other person did not appear. Went inside, set down the box so I could quietly close the clunky door. No noises from the office. Grabbed the box and scurrying like a mouse, deposited it in a secure location far away. Sat down so I could recover. Heart racing. Hair on end. Couldn’t believe that another dolly had safely made it into the doll collectors lair. Unbelievable. 🙂
Hope Jeanne spots more treasures and has a delightful ride home. Thanks Jeanne for the great virtual shopping trip.
Joy, you ought to write stories for publishing! Mysteries stories, on the edge of your seat stories, and heroine rescues!!
Enjoyed the latest “ Josephine’s Safe Arrival!” Glad you have a good inside source to follow the UPS truck.
2 questions: wonder what the UPS man was doing so long at that house?
And… Are you happy with Josephine?
Dear Joy, oh my goodness, you could do dolly stand-up! Your stories are so funny.
I was envisioning every part of the story as you told it. I was thinking, Hmmm, if they make this into a movie, who will play Joy (chuckle).
Keep the boxes and the stories coming!
Hilarious! Think of all the exercise you’re getting. You could write a book “The Perils of Joy and the Dolly Deception”. Glad your new family member arrived safely. I’m with Paula, what exactly was the UPS man doing so long at that house? I’ve heard stories…
That is so very funny, Joy. I love reading how you smuggle the latest dolly in. I’m glad Josephine made it in without being intercepted by other person. Glad you’re able to follow the UPS truck and know when things arrive. Can’t wait for the next installment.
*** Came back to say that Jeanne should really have a side tab for all your dolly stories so we can easily access them again when we need a good laugh. I think there have been four chapters so far? Phanie, Anniversary couple, Dollhouse, and today’s or am I missing one?
Dear Barbara, I love that title! It sounds like it should be a Nancy Drew mystery.
Dear Jeanne, what a lovely shop. I am thinking shabby chic meets glam.
It does look like a place to find wonderful chotchkes.
I would love to have the opportunity to visit that wonderful shop. I will be going back and enlarging all the pictures so I don’t miss anything. I saw the dollhouse too. It looked to be in pretty good shape what I could see if it. Looking forward to seeing more pictures of your shopping excursion.
I live in an area with a lot of antique shops. We used to have a Bed & Breakfast with a pub and tearoom in Bellville (in the early days it was a nice hotel called the Town Square Inn), and for several years for our anniversary David and I would rent the “suite” in the B&B for a Friday night. It had a sitting room, bedroom with a large canopy bed and private bath with a toilet with the raised tank and pull chain. When the hotel was built the suite would have been reserved for only VIPs, a private bath for most being unheard of at that time. We would eat supper in the pub Friday night and lunch in the tearoom on Saturday. Then we would go around the square visiting all the antique and gift shops. We would have continued doing that for several more years but the hotel/pub/tearoom was eventually sold and is now business and retail space. The people tried to sell it as a B&B but had no takers. They wanted to retire so eventually sold it to whoever would buy it. I have no idea what they are doing with the hotel portion of the building. It had several regular hotel rooms and was kept as it would have been in the late 1800s-early 1900s. But since spending a day walking does not really suit us these days, I guess that part of the experience would be no more anyway, but we will always have the memories of experiencing life in the “good old days”.
My vanity installation is still in the process and hopefully today will see it reach fruition. It had to be stopped for a couple A/C jobs then the church had an electrical problem that caused the A/C units to shut down and our priest had an A/C problem at his house and wanted Sean to take a look at that. Anyway, the men are scheduled to put on the vanity top today and then there are a few final things like the threshold and the quarter round on a couple walls and some caulking. But going from a single sink small vanity to a longer double sink sure does change the looks of the bathroom since the bathroom is not all that big to begin with. But I’m going to love all the drawers and it’s a very pretty piece of furniture.
I hope you’ll share pictures of your new vanity when it’s done, Barbara!
Glad you had a fun day with your sisters! The store you went in sure looks interesting. I can only imagine the conversations you and your sisters were having! Love the baskets and pitchers in one or two of your pictures. I too, saw the dollhouse and wonder what it went for.
I have a modern ranch dollhouse like I did back in the 60’s and another two story but it’s laying in sheets in a box in storage, I need to look at them to make sure there’s no rust starting. They’re in an enclosed area but I’m sure there’s moisture in the air during the winter and spring rains. They use to be in my doll room but I ran out of space. I need to figure out something to bring them in out if the cold.
Did you girls get back to the same store? I guess the girls are headed back home. Glad you had that nice visit with them.
Looks like a great store. I reminds me a little of the one antique store we had and lost in 2019 and also the one in the next town. I absolutely love those birds on the branch.
Sounds like you had a wonderful time with your sisters, Jeanne.
What a fun get away with your sisters! Lots of things to look at in that store…another visit is in order for sure! Hope the trip home is a good one. We had “snow”….so hope it doesn’t follow you home. Loved that blue flocked branch of little birds! So different.
Whew! Another safe Dolly delivery! My heart is racing just reading about it!! Can we see her? Is it a RRFF.
