My day was filled with as much time in my sewing room as I could get… and I did get some results! YAY! I left you last with a corduroy dress and jacket for Noel, my 10″ Boneka doll. Today I added 3 more pieces to the set! DOUBLE YAY!
Thigh highs are fairly quick to make so I found a piece of nice white stretchy fabric in my stash and made a pair for Noel. They just slip up her legs and are thin enough she can wear most shoes with them…
“How about a nice slip to hold out my dress?” Noel asked.
“How about this one?” I replied.
“What kind of shoes am I going to wear?” She asked again…
“How about I make you a pair of rose colored leather boots? I replied again..
I hadn’t ever drafted a pattern for a pair of boots for her, so these were my first attempts… nice enough to add to the set…
“Can I try it all on now?” She asked…
“Of course you can.”
She liked it very much! I guess she smiled when you weren’t looking! :o)
“Now can I put the dress back on to see how my slip holds it out?
I also pulled some of her hair back in a clip to make it a little less “fluffy!”
“Now the jacket?”
I don’t really have any fabrics that go with the first jacket I made, so I think I’m just going to include it with this set.
Now I’m going to bed and going to read your comments… I haven’t looked at my blog all day…
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
WOW!! You got a lot done, and any pink-loving little dolly is going to be thrilled if her mommy wins this for her. The petticoat and thigh-highs are the perfect “underpinnings” for the dress, and those rose-colored boots are fabulous! The blue jacket is pretty, but I really do love the pink one best!!
Barbara, if you’ve never done silk ribbon embroidery before, prepare to be “hooked”!! It’s so much fun! My main tip is to start with a fairly short piece of silk ribbon (about 12″). It doesn’t seem like a lot, but if you make it too long, you could end up with knots–it’s definitely not quite as easy to manage as cotton floss! Do be sure you use the silk ribbon that is made for embroidery, too; regular ribbon is too thick. And, of course, check books and online tutorials for the right way to thread your needle (it’s a different technique) and end off the embroidery. I’ve done quite a lot in the past, and I know Jeanne has, too, so don’t be afraid to ask questions, privately if you prefer!
We got a little dusting of snow tonight, and it’s getting very cold. They got several inches of snow about 25-30miles north of us, though! This cold snap is only expected to last a few days, rather than a week or more, like right after Christmas.
Charlotte, thanks so much for the encouragement to try ribbon embroidery and all the tips. I’m definitely not afraid to ask questions and will probably do it here so others can benefit. I’m going to pull out my ribbon embroidery book and read up on the technique before I invest in the supplies. I do think I have some ribbon for embroidery that I bought when I bought the book. Hopefully I will be able to find it.
I love all the new additions, Jeanne, and also Noel’s hair pulled back to look more tamed! Perhaps a pretty bow back there where you placed the clip would make the whole outfit complete? That slip is a showstopper!
It sure is funny that my desktop is showing the background of the corduroy as gray, but yesterday’s pictures were blue! The pink is perfect though. Maybe you should just disregard what we are saying about what the colors look like, since you are the one who actually sees them!
That might be a good idea to put the blue jacket along with this set to make it more versatile, and maybe, just maybe, whoever buys it would have another dress it would also go with!
Are you ready for more rain? I surely hope things stay dry there in your house, because it looks like we are getting more rain outside!!
I think she needs a hat to go with the outfit! I love your sewing endeavors.
Your shoe making has hit the top of the mark. Love the pinkish with the outfit. Little Noel can have another outfit wearing that absolutely beautiful slip and a lace top for spring. I think the blue jacket would look great with jeans for another look. So many fun things going on for her.
Didn’t receive even a drop of rain around here. All went around us, but we’re left with very cold weather. Fortunately, I covered my porch plants as it is frosty again this morning.
Had fun yesterday seeing the grands and celebrating birthday number nine. Brought along a special new outfit for her Sara and a couple of Glitter Girl accessories. Love the breakfast and beach sets. Lots of fun things on Amazon. π
Thanks, Joy, I’ll try to dig them out and share them sometime soon. All the clothing I saved is stored and I have to find out exactly where those outfits are in the boxes. I’m not sure if you read it correctly, but the outfits were for my daughter when she was young although I do hope to make something for my dolls with that ribbon embroidery. So I hope it’s okay it isn’t for a doll.
I got that you made for your daughter. π I would love to see those and something you might make for one of your dolls. I think a RRFF or AG girl would love a pretty blouse with the collar ribbon flowers. π
Wow. This outfit is totally fetching! I always love your ribbon embroidery; it appears you are inspiring some other sisters here to pick it up or get back to it. I should get back to embroidery and watercolor painting. Sigh. That pink slip is eye candy. I do like Helenβs idea of a hat with an embroidered ribbon flower on it. I wish this was a RR outfit, but my purse thanks you that it is not. ππ
Congratulations to the lucky winner of Swedish Sweetness. She sure got herself a honey of a set and price. It was really one of your best, Jeanne.
As for those pants! Holy Hannah! Headache extraordinaire in my estimation. You are such a good person to repair things for friends, Jeanne.
Good luck to wet basements, wet roofs, and no wet at all in CA. So happy you had fun with the grands yesterday, Joy, and so happy your granddaughter is getting into dolls, Barbara!
Dear Jeanne, what a pretty ensemble for one of Noel’s lucky cousins. I am sure she will be sad to give it up as I can imagine her twirling around in her lovely dress. You will have to promise to give her a sweet treat.
I wonder if you or any of the Sofa Sisters took advantage of the free searching on Newspapers.com over the weekend. I did! I have been working on family genealogy for a few years. I found so much information this time. I enjoy watching the PBS series: Finding Your Roots. There was another TV show that used to be on called: Who Do You Think You Are? That was another fun genealogy program.
Goodness Dorothy in PA and the World, you are so well informed. I didn’t know about the Newspapers.com free searching. But I do belong to ancestry.com and get a monthly update. I have a second cousin in PA who still lives in the area where the family is centered (that would be my mother’s mother’s family and the area is Bloomsburg) and has not only done extensive research but has a lot of the original pictures and documents. And I have received some very interesting facts by contacting another cousin who is my age. I found out that one of the cousins my mother talked about was the illegitimate son of my grandmother’s sister, but he was raised by their brother who never married. Then my great aunt went on to marry and have another son. I don’t know if either of her sons every knew the truth. Gotta check on that. Families are nothing if not interesting.
Missed that for Newspapers.com. Please let us know should they do another promotion. I too am a genealogy enthusiast. Been researching a long time. Have met up with lots of cousins and had fun finding new information. My grandfather’s side was from PA and Wales. π
What a wonderful ensemble Noel’s outfit has become. I love the idea of including the blue jacket because in truth I could not make up my mind which I liked best. You are becoming quite the cobbler, Jeanne. The boots are perfect. I can’t wait to see if you go for the hat.
I’m about to return to sewing again but the girls have slowed me down on that. So many were still wearing their warm winter clothing and wanted a change. To make sure I got the picture, they all went into drama queen mode. Do you know how noisy it can get in a tiny room when over 30 dollies are panting at the same time and acting like they are taking their last breath? Well I got most of them changed but I took a second look and realized I hadn’t done the H4H bunch yet. Will do that today. Sewing tomorrow?
I hope you get all your leaks fixed – forever. And I’m doing a rain dance for Joy. I’ve never been too successful with that here, but I’ll do my best. We haven’t had a problem this winter but summer here is very dicey when it comes to rainfall. Sometimes we hope for a hurricane to get some rain. That shows how desperate it can become at times. One of the things we loved about our property when we bought it was all the beautiful trees. After several years of drought a few years ago we have lost about seven of them. You just can’t afford to water full-grown trees. Once the rains started coming again, the damage had already been done and once they began absorbing water limbs started falling off right and left.
I haven’t checked on the amount of snow in Kansas. We rely heavily on winter snows to provide subsoil moisture for the spring crops. But I haven’t heard from our farmer that they’re worrying so I guess they’re doing okay and I know the Midwest has been getting snow.
I think I know who won Swedish Sweetness and what a wonderful deal she got on a wonderful outfit.
Noel looks so pretty with her fluffy slip and new boots. Both jackets are really sweet, but now the rose one is just perfect and this from someone who definitely prefers blue to pink.
So far this is taking shape to be so adorable. Both jackets and the boots and the pretty slip! Bonanza!
This is going to be a treasure for someone. All the pieces they’ll be getting — wow! I don’t know about a hat — one that works with all that hair might not work for a doll with less. The bow Linda suggested might work very well — or a simple hat that can be easily adjusted with ribbons that tie — or 2 simple hats — one of each color. Think how happy the winner will be. Or two headbands.
