I tried… really, I did, but couldn’t get this set for Kirsten listed on Ebay in time for it to end at a decent hour… BUT… I did get all my pictures uploaded this evening and I’m working on my listing… so it’s coming soon, maybe even Wednesday evening. I’ll keep you posted!
I finished her apron…
The trim I used for the apron’s waistband wasn’t very long, but it worked… The back can be tied in a square knot and will hold it in place. I didn’t want to use velcro, and thought this was the best solution…
I made some little ties for her braids…
She needed a slip, so I just made her one of my tulle slips…
Then I decided she needed a shawl… so I made one of those… out of my favorite drapey fabric… (I’m almost out of it and don’t know what I’ll do when it’s gone… I’ve used it SO many times!)
It can be draped around her shoulders in a few different ways…
I will do my best to get this listed and you can come back and see if it’s at the right side bar…that’s how you know it’s listed… until I “officially” tell you and give you the link…
I’ll see you tomorrow… Now I need to go read your comments and see what was being talked about today…
Blessings, Jeanne
Kirsten looks just wonderful in her new dirndl! I especially love the apron; the lace is so delicate. She must be helping her momma serve the Ladies’ Aid meeting, since it’s obviously her “good” apron!!
To answer a question Barbara asked yesterday: *I* wear aprons! I’m really short, so, especially when I’m frying something, I use a full apron to protect my clothes, since the countertop is 5″ ABOVE my waist. Fortunately the stove top is recessed–a couple of inches lower than the countertop–otherwise I don’t know how I’d manage.
I keep my apron on if we are having spaghetti for supper!! 😄 Somehow it never fails–if I’m wearing a white/light sweater or top, the spaghetti sauce sees it as a bulls-eye!
I do have a favorite pattern I use for my aprons. I originally made a couple for my late mother-in-law, and after she went into assisted living, I got them back and started using them. A lady in our church asked if I would make an apron for her, and, since I didn’t have much time just then, I gave her one of the aprons I’d made for Mom, and then later I made her another one. I’ve also made myself another one. I am going to have to make another apron, one of these days, as these two won’t last forever!
Dorothy, please tell Charlotte Noelle I hope she is being good so the Easter bunny can bring her lots of chocolate eggs! 😊 Also, tell her I’d like peanut butter inside my chocolate eggs (just in case she should happen to see the Easter bunny!).
Dear Charlotte, I will definitely pass that information along (chuckle).
I love peanut butter and I eat it often. Truth be told, I cannot eat chocolate any longer. I ate enough of it in my childhood, though, so I am alright with not having it now.
Hi Charlotte,
I’m glad you like Kirsten’s new dirndl… she does too…
I used to make a new apron for friends when they were getting married. I’d machine embroider their name on the front…
Chocolate peanut butter eggs sound SO good right now…
Thanks Charlotte,
Blessings, Jeanne
Kirsten DOES look like a sweet little mother’s helper in this adorable dirndl, Jeanne! Actually, I think this is one of my top favorites for Kirsten, or really any of the dolls! I love navy and white, or cream, together, and this just knocks it out of the box with that delicate crocheted lace edging on the apron!
I also like the fact that you made ribbons for her hair using the dress fabric, since all of Kirsten’s ribbons are usually woven, not actual ribbons as we know them. That pretty cotton waistband of the apron is so pretty against the navy bodice!
That shawl….it is perfect for her, and it looks familiar! I have an outfit you made, a dress and jacket for Betsy, made from that very piece of fabric! The petticoat is just the thing to make it stand out!
Now a name for this delightful creation, unless you already have one, maybe Swedish Sweetness?? Let the suggestions begin!!
Hi Linda,
Its one of my favorites too…it’s simple, but very sweet looking in person… my pictures look kind of gray and a bit drab…in person, the navy contrasted with the cream is very obvious…
Whenever I see the shawl fabric on my shelf, I always remember that dress I had Lian model,, then that seller sold it and you bought for your Betsy…
Thanks for the name…I have used it before, but who cares…
Thanks Linda,
Blessings, Jeanne
Dear Jeanne, the ensemble is adorable. I am guessing that there are several American Girls (and other 18 inch dolls) pointing to the computer screens in their Mamas’ houses and saying “oh please, oh please, oh please, I want that outfit.”
The weather has not been too bad. Phil had predicted 6 weeks of Winter weather. I am glad he got that wrong. We were going to send Phil out of state but I guess we will keep him now. It would be too difficult to try to train another groundhog anyway (chuckle).
Hi Dorothy,
I hope you’re right about all the dolls pointing to the dress and the saying, “yes Mama, I want that one too.”
Poor Phil, he has a hard life with all us critics on what he predicts!
Thanks Dorothy,
Blessings, Jeanne
Good morning,
Once again, you have woven your incredible Kirsten magic, Jeanne. This is very much a winner, but, I do have one criticism. That tie in the back. It appears awkward, bulky, and will not be that easy to untie a knot. I would have a hard time. I would suggest doing a snap close with a button on top of the snap. Less bulky and easier to handle. Just my two cents.
Supposed to get snow here later this afternoon and tonight, maybe 1-3” which helps. This has been our pattern…coming in little bits and gone in a couple days or less. We’ll take it however we can get it. Right now? Clear, brilliant blue sky and sun. Typical Salida.
Yesterday my second Shai Hoffer custom RR arrived and hubby never heard it. Safe, sound and happy. I will have to take a picture of the two girls with and without their friend Rozen…three sweet redheads.
Beeen really enjoying the pictures and comments lately as always. Marilyn, congratulations on your new sweetheart. A winner, but then, aren’t they all?
Have a lovely day. Alina, hope you are getting better, and Sylvia, we WILL meet in 4 years or less. We have a date!
Hi Sally,
It looks like the date I heard on the Downton Abbey: A New Era movie was wrong. It seems we’ll have to wait until May 20 when it comes out in theaters. I just watched the trailer and it certainly looks intriguing. Violet Crawley, Dowager Countess of Grantham has a secret.
Hi Sally, you’ll be happy to know that I took your advice and changed the tie in the back to a snap with a button. I agree with you…much better.
Thank you.
We are supposed to get rain and very strong winds, like 40-50 mile an hour winds tomorrow and then it’s supposed to start getting cold and tomorrow night supposed to get down to 16. BRRR!
Congrats on another doll making it to your house under the radar…
Thanks Sally,
Blessings, Jeanne
I think Kirsten and her family are taking the wagon into town today as supplies are needed. I’m sure they will stop at the local mercantile and just because Kirsten is such a good girl, she’ll be rewarded with a stick of sugar candy. Maybe she needs a basket in case her family decides to stop in the meadow on the way home to pick some wildflowers which will later be displayed on the dinner table. A busy day ahead awaits Kirsten. 🙂
I’ll call her dress spring bouquet. So sweet. 🙂
Hi Joy,
Well, I did “sort of” use your storyline…Kirsten did go to town…and she “found” a basket…but no flowers…
I like your dress name…”Spring Bouquet” and don’t think I’ve ever used that before… I’ve saved it to my list…
Thanks Joy…
I can’t wait to see your new girl…
Blessings, Jeanne
I was just looking at an ad for flower seeds — Joy is right — Kirsten needs a basket of flowers and maybe a flower wreath for her hair. Maybe a red bow at her neck. Midwinter is past — it’s time to start thinking of spring. If there aren’t many flowers available, and there probably weren’t, maybe evergreen branches with a few flowers?
I agree with Linda that the fabric bows are just right. And that blue and cream is such beautiful material. Did you make her stockings?
Hi Marilyn,
Well, Kirsten has a basket, but no flowers…it was a different kind of basket…with a lid…
Mid winter might be part but I still mentioned it in the listing on Ebay…lots of places are still in the deep freeze!
No, I already had her stockings…she keeps them on most all the time…
Thanks Marilyn,
I hope you are enjoying your new Corinne!!
Blessings, Jeanne
To answer Barbara’s question yesterday. I wear aprons, not always for cooking, but always for baking. I love the old-fashioned way they make me feel and remind me of baking with my grandmother. She would always put on an apron before cooking/ baking. She also would wear one out to the backyard as an easy way to gather the tomatoes, green beans, salad greens, etc.
Kirsten’s apron is so pretty, It’s such a shame that the tie is too short to make a bow. IMO all aprons need to tie in bows. The shawl is lovely and the matching bows for her hair are very nice. Love the navy and cream and the sweet ruffled blouse.
I agree about some flowers. There are winter blooming flowers- snowdrops, Winter Aconite., Hellebores, Witch hazel, and one of my favorites, Glory of the Snow.
Hi, Laura,
Thanks for keeping me posted about the DA movie. When we went to the theater for opera last month the poster still said March 18 as does Google; we shall see. And NO surprise that the Dowager has a secret! And lots of witty comments. Very glad she hasn’t died yet.
As for aprons, I wear one all the time in the kitchen. I’m a slob when I cook and bake…or to be more delicate, I have a propensity to get something on me that is always VERY obvious!
And you feel the same as I do about the back of Kirsten’s apron. The rest of the outfit is “hot diggitydog!”
Hi Laura,
I know what you mean about the spring tie being too short…I was so hoping I could make it have a bow, but I did take Sally’s advice and added a snap and button…
I have a few aprons in my stash too…but don’t use them very much… except like you, when baking…
Thanks for your sweet compliments on Kirsten’s set… I enjoyed making this one.
Blessings, Jeanne
Kirsten looks darling!
Thank you Joy,
Blessings, Jeanne
Kirsten’s dress is lovely. Do you think she could use a touch of red, maybe in her shawl? Just a thought.
Another thought: I took a picture of three RRFF dolls with new outfits on, not realizing Hannah had a black mark on her face that almost looked like ink! Horrors! Of course water did nothing. Then I dipped just the smallest corner of a Mister Clean sponge in water and gently rubbed it. Surprise! It was much lighter. I let it dry and rubbed it again with the sponge and the mark was gone! It had no effect on the skin tone of the doll. I’m going to try it on a mark made by the dye that came from a shirt when I received one of the dolls. Hope it works as well.
My Hanna has stains on her legs from her mesh leggings. I will definitely try your remedy.
Lucky call on the Mr. Clean, but should any marks be on coloring like cheeks, it might also remove that. Those dreaded leggings stains can be removed I understand, but takes a lot of work. Everyone I know uses the white zit cream which has benzoyl peroxide in it I think. It is applied and covered with clear plastic. Then the doll must sit in the sun with other body parts covered for several days. The cream must be reapplied until the stains are lightened and finally disappear. I’ve also heard that a bright lamp can also be used. I haven’t had to do the process myself, but it happens a lot. I’m sure Google can explain it better than I can.
Hi Joy,
Yes, everyone be careful about using Magic Erasers on doll faces…it can wipe out that blush easily..
Hi Susette,
Well, if Kirsten gets a hint of red in her shawl, it will have to come from her new owner.
I’m glad you were able to get the black mark off of Hannah’s face… I LOVE those Magic Erasers for lots of reasons…cleaning dolls legs and arms the best!!
Thanks Susette,
Blessings, Jeanne
What a darling outfit this dirndl has turned out to be. Perfect for a lot of occasions. I love Kirsten’s matching hair ribbons! The apron is the crowning touch.
Dorothy in PA and the World, whenever I travel north I always make an excuse either going or coming to go through PA. While I haven’t done that in several years I’m looking forward to doing it when heading for my daughter and her family in Maine. I will be sure to drop in for a visit. Will we be having tea?
Charlotte, so there is someone who still wears aprons. Super! I really need to start a new tradition for me. My grandmother always wore an apron as did her friends of that era. But they all wore housedresses too and took care not to get things on those so they would not look eternally sloppy. I guess when women started wearing things like jeans and t-shirts we got away from worrying about getting things on our clothes while we cooked. But I have managed to mess up a few tops that I love while cooking. An apron would definitely have prevented that from happening. I have some really cute apron patterns. Guess I’d better get busy. It would be a great use for some of my fabric stash..
If I had a Kirstin she would have to have this outfit. Everything about it is so good on her and matches her sweet personality.I had to take a breath when I saw that first picture of the whole thing together. Really a show stopper🤗.
My hubby wears an apron more than I do..I should,,,yesterday a spray of Pam squirted sideways and talk about a bad grease spot! Will take two washings!
Enjoy your Wednesday😉
Thank you Kathie,
You are so kind with your compliments!
My hubby and I got matching aprons for a wedding present…with our names embroidered on the front… we still have them.
Blessings, Jeanne
Dear Barbara, yes tea!!! If not, then we will have lunch somewhere.
Thank you for your kind words on Kirsten’s outfit, Barbara!
How fun that you might be having tea with Dorothy! :o)
Oh no, now we all have to make aprons…. :o) to keep us from being slobs!!! :o)
Thanks Barbara,
Blessings, Jeanne
