Navi’s Christmas dress… TAKE TWO!

Wow! I was flabbergasted at the outcome of last night’s auction. (yep, I’m late again getting this written! It’s already 1:15 a.m. Saturday!) It was incredible and I am humbled that my dress was so popular. I was texting with my sister, Cindy, telling her a few minutes before it ended that it seemed like lots of people were logging on to see it end… so I started texting her how fast the hits were changing…ten minutes before it ended, I had 817 hits on it, then it jumped like this every time I refreshed the listing… 827, 844, 853, 861, 876, 887…and then 2 minutes before it ended, it was 915, 925, 953, 963, 990, and ended at 997 hits! So a very big thank you to all of you who were watching. I LOVE cheerleaders… as well as bidders!! There will be more to those bidders who lost out.

I got some wonderful pictures from Theresa and wanted to share them with everyone. This is Jennifer… another Ruby Red Fashion Friend doll… this is what Theresa emailed me…

I know some of the ladies asked to see photos of the Ruby Red Christmas dolls. I got my Jennifer yesterday, so took some photos to share. I was so surprised to get her so soon after the notice that she had been shipped! She sure is a cutie! The faux fur jacket and purse are just the softest fur I’ve ever felt, and the rest of the outfit is just adorable. She even has little earrings for her pierced ears. I’m very happy with this pretty girl. 🙂 I’m sure some of the others who got this doll, and also Scarlett, will be sharing photos and comments with you, too.

Thank you, Theresa… She is just lovely and I bet you are enjoying her SO much! :o)

Now, to today’s topic… I just read your comments and I hope I haven’t dashed any little “Twinkles” hearts who may have been secretly watching the making of Navi’s latest dress. I looked at it this morning and it just looked so “ordinary!” There was nothing exciting about it… so I decided to come up with something new. I know Rosemary Ionker has a pattern similar to this where you gather the sleeves up and sew them in like you were making a princess line dress. I have that pattern but didn’t want to copy hers, so I sat down with a piece of paper and tried to come up with something different. I thought the sleeves on Navi’s dress yesterday were like 2 little puff balls sitting on top of her shoulders… Maybe I made them too full, but I wasn’t feeling them, so I came up with this… a 3/4 length sleeve and a bit dressier. It might even be more slimming too. When your doll is only a hair over six inches tall, you really have to watch out for extra bulk when sewing for them. Any way you can cut down on extra fabric, it’s in your favor.

So this is what I came up with… it took me a few tries and even when it was finished, I made a few revisions on the paper pattern. I’d like to have just a few more gathers over the shoulders. I didn’t take any pictures along the way… (I forgot!)

I had some tiny white lace and used it over the seams in the bodice and then on the sleeve edges.

I did keep the 3 red buttons, but made way for a red glittery ribbon sash that velcro’s together in the back.

I tried making her a pair of white thigh highs, but her shoes are too tight to wear them. I need something thinner like “pantyhose” weight tights to cut up. I do have some, but they snag so easily, I hate to use them. I’ll figure out something.

I may use my little red bobbed wig too… this one has SO MUCH HAIR and it’s in those braided knots up on top, and there’s not a good place for a hair bow…

AND because I saw some of you asked for a picture of her reaching for the snowflake… here you go… :o)

…and one more… :o) :o)

Well, I seriously need to get to bed… who knows what my hubby has in store for the day! :o)

See you Monday,
Blessings, Jeanne

First of all, Jeanne, congratulations on the very successful auction of Victorian Charm!! It was a beautiful outfit, and whoever won it is going to be very happy, I’m sure!

Theresa, your Jennifer is certainly all dressed up for the party!! Her hair is so pretty, and what a darling outfit! I was thinking, if she put down her purse and put on some ice skates….she could be in an ice show!

Jeanne, I really like what you did with the new dress bodice design. It looks more comfortable, too. However, I think the belt is “fighting” with the buttons. I would go with a narrower belt, or maybe a ribbon, that exactly matches the buttons, and save the fancy belt for another outfit. The belt itself is cute, but…. (actually, I could see it used on a dress with a bit of sparkle to it, also….either one with glittery threads woven in or little sparkly dots on it, maybe even something like a shimmery lame’! I also thought velour, but I think Navi is too tiny for velour to look “right” on her, unless it’s very thin and lightweight.)

    Just my 2¢ worth!

Before I forget, as I noticed several asked yesterday, the doctors’ appts. went okay. The neurologist doesn’t Think the shaky episodes are actual seizures, but he did add a low dose of a different anti-seizure drug to the phenytoin/dilantin Ron is already taking. The cardiologist saw, from records we kept plus just looking, that Ron is still retaining fluid, so diuretic was bounced back up again, and he will be going for an angiogram in the near future. This can be done at the hospital near us (as well as any stents he might need); however, if he needs a clip on his aortic valve, that would require a separate procedure and a trip to the Seattle hospital. i expect a call next week to set up the angiogram appt. Stay tuned, and thanks all for your concern and prayers!

  2. Whoa.. am I only the second sofa sister today? Amazing.😳
I don’t think no matter how many Christmases I’m around that I will ever get started early enough. Part of the trees are up but not all decorated so it will be busy today. Maybe we should share Christmas tree pics with Jeanne?
Shopping so far has been on line..it has worked perfectly so far. These techy grand kids send me links with gift ideas and it has actually been fun😉
Navi could not be cuter. Love the new sleeve. Charlotte noticed what I did…the buttons fight with the cute belt. I like the belt but do you have some sparkly buttons… or maybe seed beads?
Congratulations on your Victorian outfit! Watching those last few minutes had to have been so much fun!
Some RRFF Mom is going to just squeal when she opens that box an has the bonus hat too!
Charlotte…Good luck with the med changes for Ron…hopefully that will help.
    Happy Saturday everyone

Thanks, Kathie – she fits in well with the other girls. Seems I always like the newest one best, until I get another one…

I did most of my shopping online this year too. I’m not good at walking the malls these days. I love shopping online because I can visit a lot of stores at the same time to find the best deals. In addition, my daughter-in-law has the grandkids do lists on Amazon and she sends me links to things she and Sean need. She’s good at finding deals and there are no great expectations, so this always works well. So far I’ve had no problems with getting things, often before the proposed date.

I like the new pattern for Navi’s dress. I’d also like it in RRFF size. Did you ever figure out how to put patterns on your Etsy site? And how is that coming? Will you be opening a new site? I was wondering because Becca’s Corner, above, still goes to your Etsy shop. What happened with that other person who purchased something and you had no way to contact them?
I like the dress length on Navi. I think thigh highs would be nice for her as well as little socks with lace tops or the tights that you have planned.
It was wonderful to see Theresa’s Jennifer all wigged and dressed. Great photos! My Jennifer also arrived yesterday but is standing around in her undies wearing a borrowed blond wig. We’ll see if I can tackle that new wig today. The Christmas girls are awfully cute. 🙂

    1. Theresa in Indiana

Joy – hope you get your Jennifer dressed soon. I’ve never seen a wig like hers, with the tacky substance on the inside of the cap to help keep it in place. I’m assuming she wears the same size wig as Little Darlings – I’ll have to get into my stash and see what other wigs look good on her.

  4. Charlotte, seems you and the doctors are on top of all medical issues. I hope you are able to keep the worry and stress levels for yourself down.

Theresa your pictures of Jennifer show much better detail of just how lovely this doll is. I would like to see Fashion Friends show photos like yours. I just wish they would have a site where you could see all the dolls no matter what country they are available in.

I like the alteration you made for Navi’s dress. The white lace right now seems out of place, too contrasting, so I can’t wait to see how you tie it all together. I thought you would accent the green since you shopped in the stash for fabric to match her shoes. A thought on the socks, how about footless thigh highs with matching ruffled lace at the ankles?

Thank you Dorothy – took the photos with my iphone 7. Amazing the quality of photos you can get with phones these days. 🙂

  5. Congratulations Jeanne on such a successful auction! Your creations are always inspired!
Navi looks so adorable..! I know how difficult it is to sew for these Tinies..❤️

I received my RRFF Jennifer yesterday too. I think she may be my favorite yet, with her darker skin tone, lavender eyes and rewigging possibilities. Right now she’s my Christmas Creole beauty but we both are anxious to see all of her new wig looks.

  6. Barbara in SE Texas

Wow! Another hit out of the ballpark on your Victorian Charm auction. Congratulations!

Theresa’s Jennifer is a striking beauty. There are so many of these dolls coming out that I can’t keep up with them all. I like getting the dolls unwigged and undressed because I have had dye issues, but I can’t seem to get Maya’s wig on like some of the pictures. I’ve tried a few things but it still has too big a split in the middle. I like it a little bushier on the top rather than just on the sides.

Charlotte, it looks like you have some good doctors looking after Ron. With that and your Florence Nightingale attention he should do well.

I think my poor Chelsy is having stress issues with all the upheaval due to David’s knee surgeries. I know I’m more stressed than usual. The other day I was in my study tending to household administration. When I walked into the dining and living rooms she had emptied David’s wastebasket that sits by his chair all over the two rooms. Her distribution of the contents was not random believe me. She worked hard to spread things out like she did. I almost wish I could have watched her do it. She is really smart and I can imagine her thought process. I asked her to help me clean it up (I used to tell my kids if you pull it out you can put it back), but she looked at me like “clean up what?”. This is unusual for her but she is a creature of habit, so I’m sure it upsets her that things are not normal right now. Unfortunately, we have another couple months before things do return to normal. But at least it’s not fish guts. Years ago David had a dog that got upset with him for something and distributed fish guts from the kitchen trash all over his mobile home. From then on he made sure to take the trash out every evening.

    1. Theresa in Indiana

Barbara – I didn’t have any trouble at all getting Jennifer’s wig on. I wonder if your Maya’s wig is defective in some way? Have you talked to the place you bought her from?

      1. Barbara in SE Texas

Hi, Theresa. I didn’t have any trouble getting it on but the pictures show more hair on the top. Maya’s wig is kind of flat on top. I’ll work with it a little more and see if I can loosen it up some.

      2. Sally from Colorado

A day late, but good morning, everyone.
Theresa, congratulations upon adding this gorgeous doll to you collection, and thank you and Jeanne for sharing these pictures. She is a stunner and you are so fortunate to have her. Well done!
And Jeanne, congratulations for the great auction results! And lucky winner.
Now about Navi’s dress. When you had the puffed sleeves (and had gone to all that headache of putting them in and with the elastic, too, for such a wee doll!) I loved it. Little puff balls are cute, but I’m not asking you to backup the car, (or outfit,) here. A few gathers at the top of the 3/4 sleeves would be cute, but the addition of the lace on the bodice and sleeves is lovely. Someone else mentioned little mother of pearl buttons and I would agree with that. Someone else, maybe a few, talked about the sparkly belt. I agree that it is too bulky and a bit overkill. Do you have any more of the shoe fabric left to make a thin belt that fastens with velcro in the back?
And finally, someday, I would love to see you add some flat lace around your necklines every now and then. It’s feminine and softens the neckline.
        My 2 cents.
Hope everyone is having a great weekend.
        Sally

        1. Theresa in Indiana

Thank you, Sally! I realized last evening that I may have had her wig on backwards… so I took it off and turned it around… it really seems to work either way. When I turned it around, all the curly curls were more on top of her head, like how they look in the Ruby Red Fashion Friends photos. The way I put it on, the curls are more on the back of her head. I think I like my way better. And she was so patient, she didn’t complain a bit! 🙂

  7. Linda in St. Louis

    Hello everyone! It’s a
Retry nice day, sort of coolish compared to yesterday, so we have been out cleaning up leaves for once and for all! Can’t have Christmas decorations s up and leaves all over !

Now for Navi’s dress. I am getting two different reds with the belt and the buttons. How would it be to have tiny pearl buttons instead? They would echo the white lace without too much distraction. And how about a tiny sprig of holly for her hair tied with a thin red ribbon?

Wow, that auction last night! I bet the last bidders didn’t know who won until it was over! The price went up like nobody’s business! Lucky whoever she was. Anybody here?

    1. Barbara in SE Texas

I’m not into raking leaves so I had my oldest son mow the lawn yesterday and that mulches the leaves. Now I can put up my decorations with less wear and tear on my back.

      1. Linda in St. Louis

Barbara, we also mulch the leaves with the lawnmower, but after that a couple of times, we still get more leaves from our neighbors, and our huge oak tree that drops leaves slowly. We blow them and get them in piles and then bag them and mulch around a big cedar tree. The end is near!

  8. Linda in St. Louis

Oh dear, that mispelled word is “ Really”!

I also forgot to mention Theresa’s Jennifer! What a pretty girl! Love those fur accessories!

  9. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, thank you for sharing Theresa’s photograph. Her little cutie is adorable and dressed perfectly for a Winter stroll.

Navi is so sweet reaching for the snowflake. The photo looks like the cover of a children’s book.
