How to intercept a new dolly coming in the mail… WHEN YOUR HUBBY IS HOME! Yikes

Navi’s little dress set didn’t sell last night on Ebay, so I’m going to reduce the price and try selling it on my blog, if anyone is interested. This is just for US residents… sorry…
I am reducing the price to $50.00 with free shipping… and you will receive the dress with red belt, pantalettes, little peplum top, hair bow, green suede shoes, and sweet treat. The first person to say they want it, will win it. I can send you an invoice if you need one…

I can’t tell you how many times I have read this… Our very own Joy wrote it and it was just too good not to share with everyone. If you don’t get my blog posts where the comments can be added at the bottom, you are missing out on some really good sharing. All you have to do to remedy this is when you receive your email with my post, click on the blue title and it will take you to my actual website. This story from Joy is one of my favorites… probably because we have ALL most likely done something like this. If you saw it in the comments a day or two ago, it’s worth reading again. I even read it to my hubby today… :o) He smiled knowing he wasn’t alone!

Had a busy day trying to intercept packages before other person could find them. Phanie, from France, showed up with the mail and other person took a look and said, β€œDid you buy another doll?” I looked at the box and said, β€œI don’t know?” Nabbed the box and hid it quickly. Never heard another word. πŸ™‚ But then, I received a notice from UPS that the box from Hong Kong with Maya and Minnie in it was in the neighborhood. Quickly, looked at the Follow the Truck map and saw that the truck was close. Up and down the streets it went. Took a strange loop and just sat there. Finally moving again. Sent other person to the store for French bread and celery. Darn, no truck in his absence. Had to go to the other house and do some things. Thought for sure it would arrive in our absence and be sitting right in view on the porch. Got back and no, still not there. Back to the computer to check the map. Still going up and down streets all around us, but not ours. It got dark. Now what? Didn’t want to turn on the light as other person would become suspicious. The truck was now on our block. Back to the kitchen as the window looks out in front. There was the truck in front of the house. Other person was still watching tv of which I purposely didn’t complain about the loudness. Turned on the garbage disposal and had water running. Anything to disguise that dreaded thump of a package or footsteps on the stairs. Oh please don’t ring the bell! Couldn’t see in the darkness, but, thought the package was there. Decided to check and see if I was right. Told other person I heard the neighbors dogs barking. Opened the door just enough to check, and there was the package propped up against a plant. But, I couldn’t bring it in as other person was sitting just a few feet away. Hoping no porch pirates would appear, we ate dinner. Me quickly which is unusual. Doesn’t other person need to go into the office? or do something anywhere else?? Since we’d been talking about his grandparents old home in Denver, he’d looked it up and visited virtually earlier. Then, he remembered the great amusement parks that used to be there. I quickly suggested why not look them up and see if he could find the names? That worked. Off he went to take a look on the computer, and I sprung into action. Ever so quietly unlocked the door and turned the squeaky handle. Opened the door, snatched the package inside and like an elf relocked the door. Package in hand, I quickly stashed it. Hope to open the box and see Maya and Minnie today. Was completely exhausted after this caper. Must devise some new plans. πŸ™‚

I also had taken a few pictures of the Staff Christmas party the other night… Here are a few pictures of the food we had. We certainly didn’t need more…

…and one picture of me… I’m not good at selfies, but I took this and looked a bit sappy, but here I am anyway… so those of you who are new can see who is behind the writing on here.

My hubby had a doctor’s appointment today and we just now got home… I’m bushed and going to bed… so this is all for today… but I think it’s worth the read or re-read!

See you Monday,
Blessings, Jeanne

I enjoyed reading Joy’s “adventures” again! As I mentioned the other day, our front door is 7 steps down from the main floor, so I am well-hidden from Ron’s view if I need to look outside! When Scarlet came the other day, I brought her box inside and set it against the wall that would be behind the door if it were opened–he would have to kneel on the sofa backwards and look over it and down to see it there! LOL From there, it’s an easy thing to grab it on my way down to do laundry or whatever.

All that food looks just wonderful!! I’m sure at least some of those things were fixed by you, Jeanne! Our Pastor and his wife had their annual Christmas party tonight. I had planned to go, but my tummy had other ideas. I’m fine now, but we’d had a long and rough night last night, and think I was just exhausted. After I ran my errands this afternoon, I took a two-hour nap, then called the pastor to let him know we wouldn’t be there after all (Ron had already decided not to go, but said I could), and we just had some leftover homemade soup for supper. Tonight I’m back to normal.

That’s a very nice picture of you, Jeanne, and not “sappy” at all! I think we are all our own worst critics, you know?

    1. Hi Charlotte,
Well, it seems we all need front doors like yours…with 7 steps down…oh dear…then we could order as MANY dolls as our hearts desired!!

Yes, I took teryaki chicken, roasted potatoes and the carrot cake.

Thanks for the comments about my picture…I have NEVER been comfortable taking pictures.

      Thanks Charlotte,
      Blessings, Jeanne

That was a hilarious way to get dolls into the house, Jeanne…..and Joy! I thoroughly enjoyed reading it again!

Wow, all that yummy food! I am curious as to what are the round balls in the sleigh. Are they something to eat or just a decoration? All that food and good friends together make for a fun evening, for sure!

That is a very nice picture of you, Jeanne! You actually look about 10 years younger in real life than in pictures, I will say! You have such young looking, beautiful hands too, all the better to sew such lovely things!

    1. Hi Linda,
Glad you enjoyed Joy’s capers again…I might have to print it out and read it when I need a laugh!

Those are just decorative balls in the sleigh… and yes, we did have a nice evening…there were 18 of us.

Thank you for your sweet comments on my picture, Linda. I was looking for that picture of you and me when you and your hubby came to see my hubby in the hospital. I searched everywhere in my pictures, but couldn’t find it.

      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Joy and Jeanne, I had to take time to reply to this one! Oh, both my hubby and I laughed so hard! Joy, you should write it for Dolls magazine! I am blessed with a man who is very tolerant about my dolls, especially now that I have sold quite a few of my Kish Collection. Even when I was not selling them, though, he was just happy for me.

Jeanne, I am sorry your little outfit has not sold, maybe it is too close to Christmas? I admire anyone who can sew for the Twinkles. They only things I made for them have been done with hankies by hand. And now, Meadow has come out with those adorable “Sprouts”, only 4 inches tall! Have you seen the new Dolls Magazine, and her new Dumpling, Tia? She looks Oriental to me and I am so glad I have saved a lot of my Oriental fabrics.

Wishing all of you a very Merry Christmas, and now get back to cooky making. My sons and families are joining us in Crystal River, FL, where they grew up, for parties given by old friends and an early family Christmas time. They live far away, one in WA the other in NY, so I am so blessed they are doing this.

    HUgs,
    Sissy

    1. Thanks Sissy,
Wasn’t Joy’s story just the funniest thing? I need to read it every week to get my laugh in!!

I did have a lady email this morning who wants to buy Navi’s dress set…so all is not lost…

I know there is only one more day in the preorder to decide on Nunnu….I am still on the fence…there are so many ladies who make the most adorable things for the Twinkles and the fact that there are lots of OB11 clothes ready made, makes me question getting her.

Have a wonderful Christmas with your family!
      Blessings, Jeanne

Glad you had a laugh Sissy. Intercepting packages can be quite a challenge for me. πŸ™‚

What a delicious looking display of party food. Immediately, my eyes focused on the delightful sleigh decoration. I can just picture some of our dollies all posed right in the middle of the fine food collection. πŸ™‚ I’m sure the presentation was greatly appreciated by staff.
I do believe that it is so near the holiday that a lot are very busy or too broke to purchase your cute Navi creation right now from the listing. Hope someone here decides to dress their little one in a lovely Jeanne Marie creation. πŸ™‚
Loved seeing Jeanne’s selfie. I think it is a delightful photo worthy of a frame and should be displayed with the date. It is adorable. πŸ™‚
Rather embarrassing to see my rant again. I’ll just hide out for awhile. Maybe not. πŸ™‚
A friend asked if I had up my dolly tree, and I said no. I actually had forgotten about it. Last year I put it on the table. Maybe I’ll have to try and find it and put that up too. The other tree still stands fully undecorated, but has lights. πŸ™‚

    1. Hi Joy
Someone has decided they would like Navi’s little Christmas set…yay!

You have no idea how many ladies got a kick out of your dolly antics…that story will forever be etched in my mind and I plan to print it out for a weekly belly laugh.

      Thanks so much Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. I love the story from Joy, so funny.
Your holiday dinner looks wonderful. And I agree it might be so
close to Christmas for the Navi dress. But it looks so sweet.
I like that picture of you, Jeanne,

    Merry Christmas to all!

    1. HI Judi,
Yes, that story from Joy just might be the best read of the year…at least for dolly people!
I just sold Navi’s dress set! YAY!
      Thanks Judi,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. So glad to read Joy’s story again. That is just too funny. Joy, you are a fabulous writer and I can visibly see your antics in plotting the doll rescue. All you needed was stealth music. Maybe β€œ Mission Almost Impossible!”

Sometimes I think I need to hide my packages but in all reality, my husband doesn’t seem to mind me getting dolls. He seldom comments but doesn’t really understand my love for dolls. However, sometimes I do exactly what Joy does. Always planning the hoist! Ha ha.

What a spread of delicious looking food! I too spotted the sled. It looks like it’s just there for decoration?

Jeanne, your picture is just lovely! I agree with Linda, it is worthy of a frame. And such a lovely left hand. The very hand that helps the other hand create such beautiful clothing for our dolls. So glad you shared this photo with your sofa girls.

    1. Hi Paula,
It absolutely needed MI music as it was being read…it would take it to a whole different level. :o)

Whenever I happen to have a new doll coming, I’m always secretly hoping my hubby has to go to town, or that he’ll be working out at the chicken coop, but lots of times, he’s doing paperwork… right at the dining room table…ugh!!

Thanks for the sweet comments…I didn’t put it on here for compliments but some of my new subscribers could see who I was.

      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

Jeanne, You and the holiday spread look fantastic! I love looking at all the holiday dresses you have created for our dolls. Mine will have to wait awhile before they get new duds because I am having space issues. You could waltz from one end of our living room to the other but closet space is in rare supply. I have until Dec. 24th to get this figured out.
Joy and Charlotte, Laughing out loud! Oh the planning of dolly deceit; I better start making some plans of my own in anticipation of Alice and the one in the snow suit whose name I can’t remember. The closet space is shrinking even more : (
Sofa Sisters, Hang on to your sofas! We foolishly gave away our sofa before we moved. Yesterday we drove to “furniture capital of the western world”, High Point, NC, for a replacement. After jogging through 1,000’s of sq. ft. of showrooms we finally found one in a neutral fabric and traditional style – no prices displayed. When we asked the price we were told the sofa specifications would have to be plugged in before a price was revealed. The delivery would be 9 – 12 months from now, from a factory 1/2 mile down the road! Back to the outlet to love a discontinued model that was cash and carry. We can’t sit on the floor on Christmas!

To all the “dolly elves”, Happy Sleuthing!

    Debbie

    1. Hi Debbie,
Sounds like you had a different sort of caper…a couch caper…glad you were able to find one that was cash and carry…

Sounds like you are up to your eyeballs in sorting and organizing…

I hope you find time to enjoy the Christmas season without work on at least one day!

      Thanks Debbie,
      Blessings, Jeanne

    2. Joy in northern CA

Loved your sofa caper. Who would have thought a wait of 12 months? Maybe the fabric is coming from across the seas. We too have been looking for a new sofa and loveseat. Haven’t found what I like as of yet. I will certainly keep that wait time in mind. Thanks. πŸ™‚

Joy, your post was so much fun, I saw it yesterday but it bears more than one reading! We have a fun ad here that comes on at Christmas. A family with similar problems to Joy, how to hide courier packages from the recipients. The music that plays is “Tell me lies, tell me lies, tell me sweet little lies” and every time they tell a ‘white’ lie their nose grows. Great fun to watch (if you want to see it type in NZ adverts and the song title) and fits very well with Joy’s antics lol. Fortunately I have no significant other to hide my dolls from!

It is a lovely photo of you Jeanne. I am not so new that I have never seen a picture of you but I think that is one of the nicest. Glad you enjoyed your party.

Sam moved in with the children last weekend and the house is only just getting back to looking normal. Unfortunately her young cat is traumatised by my dog and mine is traumatised by her dog! I thought I had lost Luna yesterday, she came in late at night for food and Gizmo chased her before we could stop him, the next morning she didn’t come in for breakfast, unusual in itself, and didn’t come at all when I called her, again very unusual. Sam and I were both in tears and she didn’t turn up till nearly lunch time! What a relief. Pearl, Sam’s young cat, is still in Caitlin’s bedroom and won’t come out but Snowy is feeling quite comfortable now. Sam has given Caramel back to Greg, she was always going to but last Saturday when she moved he told her to take all the animals (he was pretty angry) then on Sunday he changed his mind. I think Caramel was very pleased to be home. Personally I wish he would take Gizmo but unfortunately that would break Ashley’s heart. Now I know why Louis was so thin when I got him (he and Gizmo were brought up together). Being the bigger dog Gizmo eats all the food! Louis is a grazer, he has meat in the morning but likes to graze on the dry food during the day, unfortunately there is never any food left for him to graze on! Gizmo is pretty old, about 5 yrs older than Louis, and has a lot of health issues so to be honest it might not be a problem for that long. He is no where near as smart as Louis and much bigger so I can’t even take him for a walk when I take Louis and no one else will come with me though hopefully Sam will when she has got herself more sorted.

The original idea was that Jonathan would sleep in my workroom but after 24 hours we knew that that wouldn’t work!! It wasn’t working for him and it wasn’t working for me! We went on line and found a caravan to rent which is now in the driveway. A much better (albeit a more expensive) solution! Unfortunately it only just fits and because of the power cable has to be closer to the house than we like so there is barely enough room to get past it to get to the cars. We have a back gate but haven’t remembered to use it yet lol! It might work better if we get an outside plug on the garage then we can move the caravan forward away from the gate! Still lots of things to work out.

    1. HI Anne,
I guess hiding things applies to everyone…and we thought Joy had a monopoly on the adventures… I’d like to see your ad…and just might have to look it up…

Thanks for the compliment on my picture… I wish I could get over my fear of being in pictures…

It sounds like you are up to your eyeballs in trying to solve all the “animal” issues. I hope you come to a resolution soon and maybe, just maybe, everyone will start getting along with each other…

      Thanks Anne,
      Blessings, Jeanne

    2. Joy in northern CA

Oh, the kids, the animals, and everyone else. I’m sure everything will work out in the long run. How fun to get a special trailer for Jonathan. I’ll bet he loves it. I think you all will have a very Merry Christmas together. Definitely am going to look up that advertisement. TKS πŸ™‚

  9. *sighs* I wish I could purchase the Twinkle outfit, but after we spent almost $2000 at the vet in Oct-Nov, I have to behave. I’m sure whoever gets it will be delighted. πŸ™‚

    1. HI Melody,
Oh, no worries on Navi’s outfit… I just sold it to someone… so it’s okay… Gotta take care of those furbabies first.
      Thanks Melody,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  10. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, I am glad that Navi’s outfit is now sold. I am sure Navi is not happy but if you tell her that Santa will put something special for her under the tree then she will be not be so sad.

I love Joy’s story. I did read it the first time. As someone suggested, it would be a nice piece for Doll News. Actually this blog would make a nice piece for Doll News.

Can there really only be two weeks until Christmas?

    1. Hi Dorothy,
I put Navi’s new red mohair wig in pigtails and she was so thrilled she didn’t even notice I took her dress off…

How can it be Christmas is 2 weeks away???
I better get myself in gear…
      Thanks Dorothy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  11. Marilyn in Colorado

I loved Joy’s story. There are advantages to living alone. Evette is coming to live here, but she’s stuck on the road, which reminds me of the year I bought Julie from Jeanne. Since she had been Jeanne’s, I knew she’d be perfect and I was looking forward to seeing her. It was a very cold winter and she got stuck somewhere in a very cold state. We both we afraid she’d freeze and even be damaged or at least traumatized. Many emails were exchanged, with Jeanne determined to take responsibility for loss or damage. Eventually she began to move with incredible slowness to Colorado. She finally arrived, wearing a fur coat (politically correct fake fur, of course, Julie wouldn’t have allowed the real thing). She immediately put on a plaid miniskirt, a sweater, and boots, and her fur coat and hat, and looked like Julie Christie while filming Dr. Zhivago. I had planned to change her name to Jenny, but she was clearly Julie.

I’ll hope I’ll have the same luck with Evette. She’s already dreaming of her own Jeanne Marie dress. I’m dreaming about eating the dinner you have so beautifully photographed. Unfortunately it’s the wrong time of year for quick meal service by mail.

I hope the tornadoes missed you altogether and I’m glad you had a sturdy new roof to protect you.

  12. Alina from Krakow, Poland

    Hello sisters,
I hope you missed all of the tornadoes. Lovely new dress. The Navi dress is great and some tiny doll is also happy. Advent at its halfway point in Poland. Christmas is coming soon. Christmas Eve and gifts and two days of celebration. This is the case in Poland, I wish God’s blessing.
