Another “Thanksmas” or maybe “Christgiving” Day around here!

I think this is funny… yesterday, I had 796 hits on my blog…and I just looked for the first time today and it is at 797! Huh? I don’t know what the big attraction was and is today, but it must be the names American Girl and Chrissa? Who knows… but I’m grateful and thankful for the many new subscribers I have gotten lately too.

Oh, and thank you for all the cheering at the sidelines on my 2 doll coats! Wasn’t that fun? Well, at least it was for the 2 winners and me! :o) Thank you to the winners!

Today would have been my momma’s 87th birthday! I miss her every day!

Today was busy… and I was very forgetful so this might be a nosedive of a post… compared to the last 2 days.

I am getting ready for Jean and Bithar to come over for our belated Thanksgiving/Christmas lunch tomorrow and I made 3 batches of corn casserole…their favorite! As I was putting it in the frig… (already baked and cooled), I realized I didn’t take a picture of them… oh well…

Then as I was getting some gifts together for them, I had everything all laid out for 8 gift bags… I had found some children’s Highlights magazines at the Thrift Shop in brand new condition and I looked in each issue and all the stickers were there, and no writing in any of them, so I got 15 of them… I found little candies and goodies and cookies and a sticker book and some M&M chapsticks and packages of cotton candy and more and laid them all on top of the magazines… then I put tissue paper in the bags I had and loaded each bag up with the stuff. When I got all done, I was setting them under my Christmas tree and I realized I didn’t take any pictures of them either… so I did take a picture of them all under the tree…

I found this bear for Bithar and I think she’ll like it…

I made an Apple Cake and bought some vanilla ice cream to go with it.

Well, I’m sorry, but I have to get to bed… big day tomorrow…

I don’t think this will be a 798 hits post!

Maybe someone can ask a question and you can chat with each other.

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Congrats on all the hits on your post! It will be interesting to see what happens with the auction on the AG fur coat, when it comes up!

Sounds like you have everything ready for your dinner. I used to like Highlights for Children when I was little, although we didn’t see them very often. When you are on a pastor’s salary, and have two children with medical problems, there’s not a lot of money for extras, like magazine subscriptions. But once in a great while we’d either get one or have a chance to read one.

The bear for Bithar is darling. It kind of reminds me of Boyd’s Bears of some years back–something about the face–but perhaps not.

Yesterday Debbie asked if we had cardinals out here in the Seattle area. Sadly, no, and I really miss them! We used to see them in Michigan (especially when visiting the lower peninsula) and I always thought they were so pretty. We don’t get regular bluebirds, either; however, we Do get Stellar’s Jays, which are also blue, but more a blue/black color, and bigger than bluebirds–also noisier! Another colorful bird we get is the Flicker–sometimes when they are flying, you’ll see that flash of red or gold from under their wings. My favorites, though, are the little juncos that come every winter. They are smaller than either the Jays or the flickers, and seem like sweet little birds, with their gray/white coloring and little black caps.

Well, it’s snowing again! We are supposed to get 2-4″, but we’ll see. Ron was thinking he wanted to go out for dinner tomorrow, but he’s just not very steady on his feet, so I don’t think that’s such a great idea. I’ll try to put him off a few days–Saturday we’re to be back over 40 and with rain again, so it’ll be changing soon!

Jeanne, you sure are closing out 2021 with a big bang! Congratulations on those coats! You shold take note of this, if you haven’t already, and do this at year’s end every year!

What wonderful gifts you have chosen for Bithar’s childtren! I don’t think I ever got Highlights, but I do remember Jack and Jill magazine, and Wee Wisdom too. They came a bit before Hilights I think. Well, I’m old!

It looks like a wonderful line up of food once again at the Wiedlocher household! Jean and Bithar are in for a treat! We are still having ham this and ham that from leftover ham from Christmas, but the freezer is still full of ham, so I think maybe we had better concentrate on other things for a time!

That’s too bad you don’t have Cardinals there, Charlotte, but I too love little Juncos. I bet the birds there are in a state of shock with all that snow! Hope someobdy is feeding them!
Better keep Ron at home for a bit more!

  3. Happy, happy, what ever holiday you are celebrating now! I am calling you The Furrier of the Year. What a wonderful auction, making a lot of dolls happy.
Charlotte, you have more snow then we do here in NH, I love having big storms, I do shovel some but my husband has a snowplow that does most of the work.
    Have a good day!

Congratulations for the super coat sales, Jeanne. And they both went for the same price which seemed unusual. Well, two dollies are going to be snug and thrilled. Looks like you have got today in fine order with a fun selection of gifts and marvelous food. Have a lovely time.

We never got Highlights…always saw it at the dentist’s office. But we got Child Life, Wee Wisdom and Jack and Jill. Exciting days when those magazines were in the mailbox. The kids will be really happy with your finds.

Charlotte, I miss cardinals, too. When we move back East, they are in great numbers where we are headed. Having them and snow that we won’t have to deal with (because we will be “institutionalized “ 😆) are two things I am looking forward to enjoying. Be careful and good idea to keep Ron in until footing is safer.

Looks like Alice may be rising to the surface after all these months of waiting…since July. Some people got tracking numbers late yesterday.

Debbie, I don’t know if you saw my reply yesterday, but if there is any chance you are not interested in keeping your Bella’s Northern Lights outfit, I would be thrilled to buy it. I don’t need another Bella!! Jeanne can give you my email address. Susette, I saw you succumbed to get the outfit! 🤩😉

Taking the granddaughters out to lunch today. They are 16 and 13. Even though they live here in Salida, we don’t see them much. Their dad is our middle son. He and his wife are anti Covid vaxxers and we have parted ways. Our DIL has made it clear that our son has to choose her or us. Very painful and ridiculous.

Off I go. There is a “suggestion “ of some snow here in the next day or two. Not holding my breath. Have a super day, sisters!

Happy New Year Sally, I hope we get some snow either today or tomorrow, don’t you? We have some winds coming out here in Colorado Springs. My hubby gets off early so we can be together tonight. I put our grill in the shed because it is so windy. Hope you have a nice New Years!

      1. Sally from Colorado

        Hello, dear Elaine,
Happy new year to you and your husband.
Well, we both might get a little snow. We have been planning to come to the Springs Saturday to see the opera Cinderella, but with the predictions of some snow tonight, tomorrow night, and Saturday, I am a little nervous about driving through the canyon. So you have been having high winds? Did you have a lot of blowdown from the storm before Christmas week?
Elaine, I am so excited that your family have given you the money to get your new pup this summer. That is truly a most thoughtful and generous gift, and you deserve it. Hurrah and God bless you and your family for the new year. ❤️ Hope you and your hubby had a lovely evening together.

Sounds like a fun event at your place with all of those kids. I’m sure they will be thrilled with the gifts.
Congrats on the coat sales. Wonder if someone here was the winner?
Rain’s over for now and cold has moved in. Ugh. Hope to see some sun today. 🙂
    Here comes the New Year!

  6. Jeanne, I hope you enjoy your time with Jean and Bithar. The gifts for the children will be wonderful. What a nice thing to do for them. I’d loved to see their faces light up when they see their gift bags.
The bear for Bithar is adorable. It reminds me of Boyd’s Bears. I use to have a few of them at one time.
Congratulations on your coat sales. I too think it’s a great idea to make them in the colder winter months. It’s more appealing then.
Hard to believe we are getting ready to end this year. I’m hoping the New Year will be a better year – perhaps some day soon, life can return to be somewhat normal.
Charlotte, since it sounds like you are going to have more snow, be careful going out. Hope you and Ron are doing well and I hope at some point, you two can enjoy getting out for a dinner.

Dear Jeanne, how wonderful that you will be spending time with this lovely family. I remember when you first introduce them to us. I am sure that the children will love the gifts. I loved Highlights when I was a child.

Answering Charlotte’s question, I don’t know about Cardinals because I don’t know about birds.

I can hardly believe that we are sliding out of 2021.

  8. Barbara in SE Texas

Congratulations on the coat sales, Jeanne. Have fun with Bithar and her family today. What wonderful gifts for the children and I love Bithar’s Bear. I agree it does resemble Boyd’s Bears.
I get e-mails from The Toy Shoppe, and they have all the wonderful dolls and bears, so I keep up with what’s out there. I started getting Highlights for my grandkids several years ago. They love them. There are magazines for different age groups, so I’ve had to change the order from time to time. I’m thinking Skyy may be outgrowing them since he is in middle school. I get a notice when it’s time for renewal, so I’ll check then. The subscription is not cheap but the kids enjoy them so much I didn’t want to discontinue them unless I had to. I’m thinking of getting the Little Passports for Azure when he’s older. It looks like a lot of fun. By the time I saw that it existed Skyy and Jaiden were really too old for it. But I know they would have fun helping Azure with some of the things like the volcano.

David cancelled his PT appointment today. I was sure it was too soon for consecutive days but when he scheduled for today after being there yesterday I left it up to him. He said he was really stiff today. They are closed Friday and he was trying to get in his three days. He will do what he can do at home tomorrow. This afternoon he went down to his shop. He can sit down there and work on his computer. He and Sean got his computer problem fixed this morning, so he is good to go. He probably has days of e-mails facing him.

I did win the Waterfall Wren auction last evening. I was the only bidder so I got her for the asking price. Competition would have been fun, but it would have cost me more. With shipping and tax I’m glad no one bid against me. Hopefully next week I will be able to return to sewing. I’ve been tidying up my sewing room when I can and the more I’m in there the more I’m itching to sew.

    1. Joy in northern CA

Congrats on your Waterfall Wren. I’m sure she will fit make lots of new friends at your place. 🙂 Just received and email from UPS that RRFF Freida is due here tomorrow. Guess we’ll find out tomorrow if she makes it or not. 🙂

      1. Susette from Southern California

Congratulations on the Kish Waterfall Wren doll. I won a Kish Pistachio Wren last May. They are wonderfully articulated. Yours is very pretty. I liked the one Jeanne had and never would have known she existed without the blog. Enjoy her company.

        1. Barbara in SE Texas

Without the blog I would have remained ignorant of the beautiful Wren dolls myself. The articulation was definitely a bonus. I’m glad to hear hers is wonderful. Sometimes I have been disappointed with articulation. The dolls are sometimes too tight, or in the case of my MA Cotton Candy Lissy a bit too loose and floppy.

      2. Barbara in SE Texas

What a wonderful New Year’s Eve you’re going to have! Hopefully she will arrive safe and sound.

    2. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Barbara, congratulations on winning! I will have to do a Google search so I can see what she looks like.

      1. Barbara in SE Texas

I am really looking forward to her arrival. When I saw pictures of Jeanne’s Wren Pistachio I thought she had such a sweet face. My Wren is a Chrysalis. I’m not sure what all the designations mean but of all the Helen Kish dolls I like Wren the best.

  9. Elaine M. Hoffman

I have a Topic to ask? What was your favorite present this year for Christmas? Mine was my wonderful family giving me Money to pay for my new puppy that we will meet hopefully in August or September of 2022. God Bless Them. I love them so much.

    1. Charlotte Trayer

What a thoughtful gift, Elaine! That’s wonderful.

My favorite gift was, I guess, the two pounds of See’s lemon truffles (candy) that my husband got me! He knows how much I love them,

He really wasn’t able to do a lot of shopping this year, as he is no longer strong enough to do much walking, so mostly it was gift cards, but that was something he was determined to get for me, and the shopping was pretty easy, too! I limit myself to one a day, and probably less often now, so I can make them last longer!! They’re my favorites.

  10. Barbara in SE Texas

My favorite Christmas/Birthday gift this year is based on a tradition I started the year after Sean and Dionne gave me a beautiful Thomas Kinkade puzzle Dionne had put together (she’s really good at it) and Sean glued and framed it. The next year they were low on funds so I said let me buy another Kinkade puzzle and you can do as you did the year before. We were all pleased with that and so a tradition was born. Each year in the early part of the year I pick out a puzzle and give it to them. Dionne can take as long as she needs to finish the puzzle but usually finishes it in about a month, even having Azure to tend to this year. The puzzles/pictures are all so beautiful. I got my fifth one this year and am having to start thinking about where to hang them. Last year the puzzle was Christmas in Central Park. It glows in the dark. For Christmas 2022 I’m going to get the puzzle of Lombard Street in San Francisco. It’s really detailed and beautiful. Dionne does not do crafts, so this is a way for her to give me something she has made herself and Sean is excellent at gluing and framing them.

    Marilyn,
I saw the Governor calling for a state of emergency in Boulder and saw a picture of one of the fires. Like a Joy, I am hoping and praying you and yours are far enough away from them and safe.
