The Kingdom Mirror

Hi everyone,
Sorry I’ve been Missing In Action these last few days (weeks!)… I am pushing myself to get my new bifold closet doors painted as well as the door to the room. It was never painted on the backside and it needs it! Rebecca and Karn are coming back Monday and plan to stay until Thursday, and then they’ll leave with ALL her stuff. :o( I’m hoping to have my painting done before they get here. At least that’s my plan.

I did manage to get a new charm for Josefina’s set that she’s been wearing for probably a month now. I decided not to list the dreamcatcher necklace with the set on Ebay, so I needed a replacement. I found something that I think will work… See, I haven’t forgotten I’m a seamstress, although you might not know it from reading my blog lately…

I would love to have a full length mirror in my new bedroom, but I don’t think I have the wall space for one, but I can dream… I saw myself in some of her conversations with her husband… my hubby has certainly put up with some “things” from me as I could see something in a piece at a yard sale, when my hubby clearly could not.

Cindy sent this blog post from Victoria Elizabeth Barnes, to me a year or so ago and every time I see a huge mirror I think of this post… it is pretty humorous and I hope you’ll enjoy it as I’m frantically painting away!

You’ll have to ignore the ads that are in between her writing… click the link below…

The Kingdom Mirror

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Hi everyone! I’m back! I really appreciate everyone’s concern–such a great group!! I think I just forgot to read Jeanne’s post last night, because I don’t remember seeing about her making up that pillow–which, by the way, turned out beautifully! I would probably have chickened out and made it the intended size, though. When I saw that you had squared it, my first thought was, I hope she put a couple of extra rows of stitching along those side SAs, just in case the yarn decides to come out! LOL But, that’s me. I don’t do needlepoint (tried it once–dismal failure) I like the fabric you chose for the back, too.

You were also really brave to tackle changing the filling in your pillow forms!! I vaguely remember my mom telling about how they had gotten a Really Full feather pillow as a wedding present, and she got more ticking and made another pillow, and divided the feathers between them. She said it was a real mess to do, too!

Linda, I will be praying for a good and speedy recovery for you, and that your PT goes well, also. I have a bad knee, and the ortho doctor said if I decide to have it replaced, he would send me to someone who Only does knees because 1–I have a very small bone structure and 2–I have osteoporosis (or did–I’ve been trying to work at improving my bone density but haven’t had a bone density scan in a while…maybe it’s just osteopenia now), In the meantime, I’m limping along, some days more limping than others!

Jeanne, I’m so glad you are going to get to see the kids, and they will be there for a few days. The house is sure going to feel empty once they’ve left again, though!!

Today I went to Snapdoodle Toys (don’t you love that name?) and found a couple of miniature goodies to include in the swap! And now I’m making a little bag/knapsack, too. I have to mail it by the 22nd, so probably Jeanne will have pictures by the end of the month.

      Hi, Charlotte,
Yes! You were missed yesterday and so good to hear all is well, and that you are having fun finding little accessories for your swap. Good for you, and carry on!
      Hugs,
      Sally

Dear Charlotte, I am excited about the Swap also. I have not told your namesake, of course, she would be too excited (laugh).

  2. Oh! I meant to add, I really enjoyed that post about the kingdom mirror!! So funny! Thanks for sharing.

How fun. Loved seeing the Kingdom Mirror post. So wish I could interest other person in traipsing around the countryside to find interesting stuff. 🙂
So, sounds like Karn has a lot of vacation days. What is his profession? Will be so nice for you to see them, and I’m sure Reuben will be thrilled. 🙂
Up to your ears in paint eh? Good for you. It will be so nice to have your bedroom all spiffy. Then you can move on to CA and work on ours. Just kidding. 🙂
Exhausted after our trip which turned into a 7 hour drive yesterday. So much traffic. Usually only takes 6. I’ve never seen it so bad heading to Sacramento and up the summit. So many trucks. We presume that they are coming and going over to Nevada where they now have warehouses. Really is taking a toll on the highways. So rough. Anyway, made it to the cabin and found that the waterfall in front of the cabin is at it’s lowest ever I’ve seen in 60 plus years. Needless to say, the spring is dry. Cleaned off the deck and winterized the place and then back into the car for the return trip. Today, we need to clean the gutters and blow off the leaves. Never ends.
    Don’t work too hard.

I thought I’d see Linda’s post today so that I could wish her well on her recovery. But, no Linda. Maybe she also did not receive the email today. Anyway, hope the knee is progressing as it should. Take care.

    Good morning, Jeanne and all,

First, I know you are super busy, Jeanne, but I never got today’s post. I emailed Joy about it, asking if she got one, so she forwarded hers on. I will read the Mirror article later today, but I did want to mention that this is the second time I have not received the daily post. Very sad. Thank you, Joy!

Linda, I hope today goes a little easier for you than yesterday. Keep up the good work

Also, for anyone interested, I saw on FB from RRFF Global that tomorrow morning, the 18th at 11 am EST they will be selling their two limited edition holiday dolls. “Scarlett” is a blond in red and Jennifer is a brunette in white with a very elaborate hairdo. Both dolls are limited to 200 and both, I think, have pierced ears like Darla did. Just throwing that out.

Later today I will read the article because it sounds like fun and will read comments. Great to see Charlotte back.

Happy painting, Jeanne. Why not put your full length mirror attached to the back of your bedroom door? That’s how I had mine at my parent’s house. Good to hear the newlyweds will be collecting their stuff and not just doing a hit and miss. Won’t Reuben be so happy!?

    Hugs,

    Sally

I didn’t get mine either, I did what I did last time, clicked on yesterdays post then found it in the side menu.

  5. Susette from Southern California

Sally: You might click on the previous day’s post and on the blue line so the Comments will appear at the bottom. There’s a list at the bottom of a lot of previous posts and today’s post will appear mysteriously at the top of it so you can click on it. I didn’t get it either today.

I immediately looked around for a 12’ ceiling but the only ones have the sofa downstairs and upstairs has a 7’ x 8 panel Chinese screen. So no fabulous mirror for me. Must be so much fun to be able to accommodate “stuff” like that, let alone two or three of them! Thanks for the link.

I’m working on pictures of a music recital that the RRFF dolls are having. I’ll wait to send them along until I have pictures of their practice sessions. Every time I take pictures of dolls, my respect grows four Jeanne’s ability to take pictures of dolls. I used to wonder why she took 100+ pictures sometimes, but now I know why. A hair out of place. Something or somebody falls over. Shadows. Too much sunlight. Not enough sunlight. Something in the background shows that shouldn’t. The angle is wrong. It seems like it’ll never end. Onward and upward.

Made an appointment for a flu shot today so it’ll be three weeks out when the booster vaccine becomes available from Moderna. Don’t forget about Shingrix vaccine against shingles, a miserable disease.

      1. Sally from Colorado

Susette, thanks for that tip. Tried it out and perfect.
So Moderna will be ready soon? Thanks for the reminder of flu and shingles.
A RRFF music recital? This sounds like a real treat and a real feat! Looking forward to it, Susette.
Thanks so much for your note and for doing a recital for us.

  6. Kingdom mirror… that was too funny.
Tell Reuben Rebecca is coming Monday. They understand. Our dogs knew certain times of the day and would get up and wait.

    1. Came back after reading it again. I will have to read some of her other posts after I found this one

      https://victoriaelizabethbarnes.com/antique-eastlake-tall-victorian-bookcase/
She has a Tuxie like I do!!

Sadly, no 12 foot ceiling here, but it would have fit in the house I lived in as a teen. Phooey! I will say that that mirror and her Victorian wardrobe would have fit right in at my great aunt’s house. beautiful Victorian wardrobe and a pink velvet chaise lounge in her bedroom, a Victrola and secretary desk in her sitting room, and many other neat old things. i absolutely loved her house.

  7. Glad you are back Charlotte! Swaps are sure fun…I got mine finished too. I’ve received crazy ones, lovely ones and a couple that were absolutely over the top. This one should be fun.
Mirror….How in the world did they ever get it home on the interstate with out it breaking? It is awesome. Anywhere did it say how much it was? I must have missed it if it did.
Jeanne when you are through with the doors are you going to burn that paintbrush? Your energy blows me away!
I finished my Little Darling Swap and have it ready to mail. Somehow the box seems heavier than it should. I hope it doesn’t get crushed because it has a long way to go. 🤔😳
    Enjoy the weekend!

Dear Kathie, I am eaves-reading here. I have sent off my Swap gifts, and, according to tracking, they have been received. I can’t wait until the big reveal on October 1!

    2. HI Kathie,
Just in case you were wondering… I saw where you had asked how much the mirror was selling for… in the Craigslist listing, it says $280… I’m not sure if she paid that much, but I’m guessing she did…
      Blessings, Jeanne

Jeanne, that was a very cute, entertaining video and thanks for sharing. I might have to study it very carefully to develop a new technique for sliding more dolls into our doorway…🤣
Again, thank you very much. Hope today is very productive.

The video was funny. I, of course, don’t have to account to anyone but me for my purchases (though my youngest son wishes I would tell him so he could tell me not to do it lol)

Busy day today. Sam has hired a storage unit and we are moving some of the stuff in my garage into it. Greg doesn’t know she is moving out yet though, only that she is sorting out her “hoard” at my place. When we were in UK we went on a short holiday to a place called Seahouses and went on a boat trip to see the puffin colonies. When we got back Sam bought her a puffin back pack. Sam found it in the rubbish bin the other day. Nothing wrong with it she didn’t need it she has enough bags! He had a big, decorative mirror years ago. He tried to sell it but no one wanted to pay what he wanted for it. Sam suggested taking it to a charity shop. No there was no way he was going to give it away so he smashed the mirror and chopped up the frame for firewood. He is really angry that she takes a lot of stuff to Creative Junk, it should just go in the rubbish not be given away.

We have been looking at sleepouts for Jono and Caitlin but I am beginning to regret telling Caitlin that she could have what she wants within reason. It seems to me that she has a champagne taste on (my) beer income! She doesn’t seem to have the ability, either, of seeing what could be, only what is. Jono doesn’t care as long as he has room for his bed, his Lego and his TV and gaming console he is happy.

Sorry, Sam bought Ashley a puffin back pack! should proof read before I click post comment!

Dear Jeanne, the story was so funny! Oh my goodness, I love her courage to take on a 15-foot mirror.

Oh course, she was right. It looks divine in her house.
