“Bright” red tomatoes, “White” bedroom trim and a “Just Right” bouquet

Could we all take a moment and say a prayer for Ingrid today…she has a very important doctor’s appointment and as her “sofa sisters” I’m sure she’d appreciate it very much! Actually throughout the day, remember her…

I’ve gotten some more pictures from my readers and will share them soon… lots of chatter about aprons… that was great.

Take a look at these Super Sweet Cherry 100’s my hubby picked the last few days. We’ve had them running out our ears so we started sharing them… and we still have lots!

Saturday afternoon we did some more work in our bedroom… TRIM WORK… we are SLOW at it… which was okay… I needed a slow day! :o)

We took measurements and I painted the trim in the dining room because Rebecca has the whole back of the house filled with boxes…

We wanted to get the trim up around the doors in our bedroom and around the closet. Putting the trim up around the two doors wasn’t too bad… we continued the same look that we did on our window and just like in Rebecca’s room… square boards with NO MITERED CORNERS! :o)

I need tp paint that entry door especially… it’s a bit drab looking.

There were sliding doors up at my closet but back when the lumber place in town was having their 70% off liquidation sale, we got a set of birch bi-fold doors and somehow, incredibly unbelievable, my hubby decided we should maybe put them in before we put the trim on, because the doors have to clear the trim, and not the trim hiding the top of the doors, like it was with the sliding ones.

The trim around the closet was tacked up with one nail but my hubby remembered about the doors having to clear the trim this way, so my closet looks like this now…

We measured and the doors are UGH…1/4″ too wide for the opening, so my hubby is planning to take the planer tool that he used to shave off part of the corner in my sewing room and see if he can shave off part of the closet facing in the bedroom. I’m sure he can do it… he’s not so sure! I’ll have to paint the doors…but we might go ahead and put them up first to see if they are going to work… They’ll have to! :o)

Rebecca wanted to get started on her wedding bouquet Sunday afternoon, so we got out all the flowers and greenery she had bought and added some extra length to some of the shorter ones with green floral tape.

After we got all our “pieces” ready, she started picking up different flowers and holding them in her hand the way she wanted them to look… trying to get the purples and oranges and greenery “just right!” She liked this and said we’d spread them out after we got them secured…

We used a zip tie at the top of the bunch of flower stems and pulled it as tight as we could… then I used my Handy Dandy glue gun from Joann’s and hot glued the stems so they would stay put… (It kind of looks like a dill pickle to me.) Rebecca cut off the ends of the stems to the same length with a pair of wire cutters.

She wanted it wrapped with jute but I needed to add something around the glue area that would grab hold of the jute… I used a piece of felt that was sort of the same color…and hot glued it.

I pulled the felt tight as I wrapped it around the stems…and then I started at the bottom, gluing some short strands of the jute in two different directions on the very bottom before I started wrapping the jute around the stems.

I kept wrapping the jute around the felt all the way to the top and it looked like this…

She wanted a piece of burlap trim with some lace on it in the middle…

She snipped the top zip tie off and pulled the flowers down a little bit, making it a bit more full and round looking.

It looked pretty in my sewing room…

But she wanted to go outside and see how vibrant it looked… It did, but my pictures don’t do it justice! They really are stunning colors!

We took a short 9 second video of her twirling it around and she was happy and thrilled she could check it off her to do list!

It takes about 30-45 seconds on my computer for it to fully load… :o)

Well, that was my weekend… hope yours was productive too!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Ingrid, I will definitely keep you in prayer, that your appt. goes well, etc.

Jeanne, those tomatoes look So good!! I always think it would be so wonderful to have my own tomatoes (or whatever), but you know, I am just Not a gardener!

Rebecca’s bouquet is lovely!! It will be a lovely keepsake from her wedding, too.

Well, my day didn’t go as planned (Sunday)–I was eating breakfast and suddenly needed to throw up! So that took care of going to church for me. I’m mostly been sipping soda and nibbling crackers today, and my tummy has settled down. Not sure if it’s something I ate, or a 24-hour bug. I spent a lot of time sleeping today.

I’m thinking your virus caught up with you. Sometimes I’ve felt really bad for days before my body gave up fighting off whatever it is and I’m down for the count. You said you had a fever last week. Hopefully you are feeling much better now.

First, Ingrid, I will be praying and thnking of you today! Like everyone, I hope things go well for you.

Those yummy tomatoes look so good and beautiful! Forgot to mention previously that I have recently made my “pickles” and they are so good, especially with fresh produce now from the yard, or in my case, the farmer;s market!

Your room is looking better and better everytime you show it, Jeanne! Those little finishing touches do so much for a room!

Charlotte, hope things are better today!

Rebecca’s bouquet is perfect! I guess thngs are getting “real” now, and reality has stepped in! Your “little girl’ is all grown up and getting married!

  3. Ingrid I hope that the new you receive is nothing but good. Stay strong.

Charlotte I hope it was over as quickly as it came on. There’s been a bit of a 24 hour bug going around here also.

I love the colorway of Rebecca’s bouquet. The days are creeping up so quickly.

Sending positive thoughts to Ingrid today.

Such a great photo fest. Love it.

Wow, what a catch of Sweet 100’s. The photo with the vibrant colors of the Sweet 100’s should be included in one of Jeanne’s coffee table books. We too have the cherries, but we’re experiencing blossom end rot on some of the larger varieties. Seems everyone around us has the problem too. Probably our dry weather this year, or maybe the need of calcium. 🙁

Took me a minute to spot Reuben there under the trim boards. So cute. Really hope George can get those closet doors to fit. So close to the right measurement too. I wonder if a friend has a planer saw that you might be able to run the doors through? Would come out so much nicer that trying to do it by hand. We have one, but a little far to use. 🙁

Love the video of Rebecca’s bouquet which looks even more vibrant against the royal greens of your lush yard. So fun to see how it came together too. A masterpiece of creativity. 🙂

Wind has changed and smoke is much clearer. Fires in some places are coming under control. We’re heading to Costo today to pick a few things. One never knows what will arrive home here. 🙂

Ingrid is definitely in my prayers and thoughts today. Hoping for good news for her.

Those tomatoes are absolutely amazing. Wish I lived closer I would gladly help you alleviate your storage problem. Since most of the larger tomatoes you buy in the grocery store aren’t that good, I’ve started using the smaller ones these days. Sean used to grow tomatoes and we had good years when we shared and bad years when we had little for ourselves. I’m not a gardener and don’t like the constant concern of how things will turn out.

Your bedroom is coming along very well. Hopefully things will come along well with your doors. I know you would be pleased to have them installed.

Rebecca’s bouquet is wonderful. My favorite colors. Now I wish I had done a fall wedding but we were engaged in October of 1979 (coincided with my mother’s visit to Texas for her birthday) and married in January of 1980. I didn’t want to wait a whole year and besides David wanted a ski honeymoon.

I get the weather report each day from Cedaredge, CO. Our favorite place to vacation and maybe live. The air quality right now is not good. I suspect they are suffering from all the fires in CA, OR, etc. And now I’m hearing Montana. This would be about the time we would normally go but thankfully have no plans to do so this year.

Ingrid, my thoughts and prayers are with you today. We have been through it all with Sam and thankfully come out the other side. Kia Kaha (stay strong)

Rebecca’s bouquet looks lovely. I love the colours and they will be great for a September wedding in your part of the world. Hopefully here we will have daffodils and tulips in September though the weather at the weekend might have slowed them a bit. It was very cold and we had a bit of sleet here but the Port Hills are white and most of the passes to the West Coast were closed. Winter reminding us that it isn’t over yet!

Joy the fires are pretty horrendous, not just in US but Europe as well. We get to see pictures every night on the news.

I got to see our two new babies in the family on Sunday. One 10 weeks (Jahniah) and Exekiel who is 7 months.

Jeanne I hope your bedroom gets finished very soon. And I would love some of your tomatoes, they are very expensive here at the moment. I will plant some but it is a bit too soon yet.

    Take care everyone

Oh Dorothy! What a lovely prayer for Ingrid! Just reading it should help. Hope you feel better Charlotte.
The wood work is really putting a finished look on your room☺️ It’s going to be so pretty.
The bouquet is just a knockout! It has great colors…the perfect size and the way you put it together it will last forever!
Details are coming together so nicely.

  9. Marilyn from Colorado

    Prayers for Ingrid– done.

It’s only 91 now, and hazy from smoke, but the smoke smell from yesterday is gone. Any improvement is welcome.

I am starting to see doors framed like yours and think it’s very attractive. You are really speeding along.

Rebecca’s bouquet is lovely and individual. She can use it as her Thanksgiving centerpiece. It will be perfect for years, and if it ever needs refreshing, you two will know how.

Linda’s pickles remind me that they will be perfect when the cucumbers start to overpopulate the garden.

The new look for the blog is working out well, and I’m nearly used to it already. You are making progress on many fronts. Congratulations.
