A home decor project, a bedroom, a dolly apron, tea sets, a recipe and we end up at Disneyland!

I was hoping to have my new bi-fold bedroom closet doors figured out by this evening, but no… it didn’t happen… I even looked on YouTube for videos to see how to put in the doors when things are a bit wonky… (that’s a serious understatement!) Most of them were 3-5 minute videos telling how easy it was to install the closet doors and it was as simple as 1,2,3! So why did we work for 6 hours and nary a door is hanging??? There was one video where someone asked about crooked door jambs… The first answer hit home with us… “Putting bi-folds in a pre existing opening is almost always a crap shoot!” Boy, was that guy right!

We tried and put up boards and used shims and then took down those boards and added smaller thinner boards. We tried holding them up there, with me on the inside of the closet and my hubby trying to hold things on his side. I had the pencil and the tape measure and didn’t know what I was really supposed to do… “mark it on the bottom on the left side… mark where the top overlaps on the inside… see if you can hold it on those pins at the bottom… what if we raised it up just half and inch?” And on and on it went… until we were both sick of it… we planed down the left side of the door facing, and then added a new board there was a bit thinner… etc, etc, etc…

Here is the problem… I kind of drew it out although it’s a bit more complicated than this… our doors won’t fit “straight” into the opening…

If you click on any pictures they will enlarge.

I’ll let you know when we get it figured out… I did have an idea today and my hubby didn’t think it would work, but I think he’s willing to try anything now… He was ready to put the sliding doors back up this afternoon…

Here are a few pictures of what we did… don’t ask me to explain them… I have no words…and we did so many different things I don’t even remember which order my pictures go in :o(

Crooked trim…

Straight trim… but look at the board underneath…it’s 3/4″ longer on the right than the left side…

OKAY… NEW SUBJECT!

Sissy sent me a picture of her My Meadows Mae doll in a reversible apron…one side for Christmas and the other for Valentines Day! Great job, Sissy! Isn’t it sweet?

Last week, or maybe the week before, when the new Ruby Red Fashion Friends doll, Alice, came out, Susette sent me these pictures of her doll’s tea sets…

These are her grand kids, Riya and Krish, “apparently” having tea? :o)

When I was debating about what color to decorate my new bedroom with, Susette suggested blue as shown in her bedroom… I wanted to share a picture with you… Isn’t it pretty? I love the little kitties (I think) peeking out from under the bed… :o)

Kathie sent me a recipe for ALL those cherry tomatoes we have been getting… I just happened to pick up a container of those mozzarella balls mentioned…. hmmm…something new to try… Here is the recipe…

Easy Carpese Salad with Cherry Tomatoes

And we are ending up at Disneyland… This is Landry, Joy’s middle granddaughter… Looks like she’s caught Tinkerbell! :o)

What a fun packed post today… Hope you enjoyed it!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Oh, my goodness, what problems those doors are proving to be, Jeanne! I trust that you and George will eventually get it figured out, though–now that you have the doors and all, you know.

Sissy, your Mae is just darling, and I love her reversible apron. I’ve thought about getting a My Meadows doll, but so far have not succumbed!!

Susette, your grandkids are sure cute! And I love your tea sets. That looks like a deviled egg plate in the second picture! What fun!

Kathie, that recipe sounds delicious! At the moment, I’m taking it easy on my tummy, but I may have to copy that one down for when my tummy is happier with me. I do feel some better tonight, but am eating cautiously, and smaller amounts. Now if I could lose a few more pounds without feeling lousy!!

Joy, that picture of Landry is just darling! I love how Tinkerbell decided to land in her hands!

    Thanks everyone for sharing pictures!!

Well, I am not so sure those first pictures of your problem door are what I call fun, but I certainly do see what is facing you now! How in the workd did you get the sliding doors to work if the floor was so unevern, Jeanne? I’m sure George will find a way to get the doors in, he always manages to do magic with ust about anything he encounters! I guess your clothes are now laying somewhere else while you get the doors figured out?

What a cute idea of a reversible apron to go with a darling dress to give it double duty, Sissy!
Even a fourth of July apron would work too with that dress! Such a cute little doll!

Susette’s grandchiuldren are just adorable, and what a darling tea set with all the interesting pieces that she has! Lucky children!
Susette, your bedroom is beautiful, and I must admit, that I thought those little kitties hiding under the bed, were slippers at first! That beautiful bedspread “makes” the room!

Kathie’s recipe looks very good, except for the fact, when I get tomatoes or other fresh produce, they don’t last long enough to add other ingredients to make something out of them! All these fabulous recipes, and the main ingredient is gone before I can put it together!

Tinkerbell found the right little girl to make friends with! Darling picture, Joy!

The kitties are Japanese Kutani, bought when living in Japan in the 1980s. You have good eyes to even see them or enlarged the picture!

Oh, good luck with the closet doors. So sorry they’re being so difficult.

What a darling apron, Sissy. No point making two when one will do, is there? Cute little doll.

The children were checking out the Cardew tea set, not the Disney, so it’s very casual with brownie bits in the egg plate from the child-size set. I reupholstered the stools while I was there. The third picture is of the doll-size tea set on a runner that was given to my parents as a wedding present, edited out from a picture with several more doll-size tea sets. The last picture is an example of what’s available sometimes at TJMaxx or Home Goods at a steal compared with department stores. Imagine buying all that fabric let alone sewing it all!

Joy, your granddaughter is darling as is your whole crew. They look just like you 🥰.

      Hello, everyone!
I need to catch up here. First, dear INGRID, a lot of us were praying for a best outcome for you yesterday. Although I am not aware of what you are going through, and don’t really need to know, if you need prayers, you’ve got them.

CHARLOTTE, good to know you are maybe turning a corner. You seemed pretty miserable. You have the right idea; don’t overload the system and avoid acidic foods for a bit.

SUZETTE, I really enjoyed your double sided apron with the ric rack edging. That is a doll apron I could do (but not Sissy’s which is amazing for being reversible and full, as Joy pointed out). How delightful are those tea sets and the grands! Lovely bedroom, too. You’re right, the darker color adds the needed punch. I need to paint some walls here before too long. Seeing your room and Jeanne’s, I might lean toward something light like Agreeable Gray or white. There is not one white wall in this house because I love color!! Thank you for sharing the pictures today and for the previous post. (Yup, I thought the kitties were slippers!)

SISSY, your Mae doll is so sweet and the apron really wonderful. The double sided gathered skirt seem like quite a feat. Thank you for sharing!

KATHIE, thank you for the recipe. Caprese salad is always a treat when tomatoes come off a homegrown vine. I will certainly check your recipe out.

JEANNE, first, those tomatoes looked so yummy in your photos that I really wished I could grab a handful through my screen here. My one cherry tomato plant yielded about a third of what you showed and is dying out. Humph!
What an awful nuisance those doors are becoming! Six hours! As others have said, you both WILL figure it out. JOY had a great idea. Actually, she seems to have a ton of great ideas. Maybe import her for a bit?
The bouquet is glorious! Fascinating how you used all that hot glue, the floral tape, doing the jute on the bottom, the lace around the center. Just a terrific bouquet for the special day and a keepsake. Was that the weekend surprise from Rebecca? At any rate, good luck today with those doors. Ugh!

JOY, that Landry is a cutie, and I did like your idea as a possible solution to the hanging bifolds . I could picture what you were saying. Good luck at Joanne’s for your trim. Like you, I am waiting for a couple new Siblies here. I was going to order little Rory this month, but some other big distractions occurred. Sigh.

Not much new here. The smoke from neighboring forest fires in neighboring states has settled a thick haze around our mountains. Although I am not really aware of the smokiness for smell, I am coughing more when outside. And now, I need to walk the dogs before yoga. Everyone have a great day.

      Hugs!
      Sally

Wow, such a door dilemma. We have the same problem with our kitchen window on the front of the house, but didn’t have to deal with the moveable hanging doors. We ended up getting the window as level as we could and then adjusting the trim around it to line up with the horizonal redwood siding. Even from the street you can’t tell how off it is because we painted both the trim and siding the same color. I’m wondering if you can’t install the door to meet the floor level as much as possible as a crack at the bottom won’t show much and then adjust the trim to cover the offness at the top and match the drop ceiling trim?. I would paint the doors and trim for the closet the same color as the wall because you really don’t want the offness to show anyway and I don’t think you would miss having the door trim white on that wall. Just my take. 🙂 George will probably want to hang me. 🙂

Sissy’s reversible apron on Mae is so sweet. I would never have thought of gathering the skirt and making it reversible. Such a clever idea.

First, Susette’s upholstery job is wonderful. Sounds like you have lots of projects when you are visiting. Love the beautiful tea sets. Just my cup of tea. 🙂 And your grands are such cuties too. The blue room is perfect. Love the style and everything else Susette touches. 🙂

Since we are getting lots of cherry tomatoes, I think I will pick up some items and give Kathie’s recipe a try. I think other person would love it too. 🙂

I’ve been playing around with that AG skirt again. Had that fabric forever it seems. Of course, I can’t seem to find the right trim color here. Might have to make another trip to Joann’s and see if I can find something. I don’t think I’m going to put in those growth pleats like Linda did. I can never seem to get them right. 🙁 There were a couple of new RRFF girls that came out over the weekend in France. Sally let me know, and I had to keep going back and forth taking a look. But, I was able to hold back my buy button finger. Hoping that some new Siblies are introduced here along with some new Fashion Friends. 🙂

Dear Jeanne, what wonderful photos today. I love seeing the children.

Whatever will you do when all of your renovations are completed (smile)? Habitat for Humanity is always looking for volunteers.

There is a new HGTV show called Cheap Old Houses. The hosts travel around showcasing the features of beautiful vintage houses in need of repair. I sure would love to have one!

    Prayers continue for Ingrid.

  6. popping in for just a second before heading to the vet to pick up a kitty from a dental appointment.
I hope you get the doors figured out< Jeanne.
Adorable apron and dress on your doll, Sissy. Love the matching collar on her puppy.
Your grandchildren are so sweet, Susette, and I'm sure you love having tea with them. What a sweet Alice in Wonderland tea set
Your bedroom looks so cool and relaxing. I love blue and white together. that's what my sun room is done in.
That recipe looks good, Kathie. How sweet your granddaughter is Joy. Landry looks delighted to have Tinkerbell land in her hands. What a fun memory!

  7. Thank Y’all for the kind remarks about my apron. It was fun to figure out, especially since it is supposed to snap in the back. I ended up with button holes and buttons. I haven’t sewed much lately, other that the ruffles rompers pictured lately. Busy summer.
Jeanne, yours and George’s work on that house is mind boggling! You two are amazing. I can’t wait to see the solution on the doors.
I love the Alice tea set and the sweet Tinkerbelle holding little girl. I just returned from a week visiting my son and his family. I got a wonderful lot of granddaughter time. Simone is 9 and we played school every day with her AG dolls.
    Y’all have a great week
    hugs,
    Sissy

How fun to play school with grand and her AG’s. Such a perfect age for dolls. Since we always make just a day trip down to see our grands, there is never enough time for all of the fun stuff. You are so lucky. 🙂
