My hubby has LOTS of great talents, but he is especially good at caulking! :o) Now you might not think that’s a quality that is important in a husband, but if you buy a house like ours…with all its cracks and crevices, it’s incredibly valuable! We should have taken stock in caulk when we bought this house… Sometimes we wonder just how many tubes of caulk have been put into this house…
Anyway, today in the master bedroom, I “marked” the walls with pieces of blue tape where he needed to caulk. There was either a crack or a hole or a place where the trim up near the top had bowed out or in and it left a space between the paneling and the trim. There was only one wall that didn’t have a piece of blue tape on it… :o)
If you click on the pictures they will enlarge.
While he was doing that I was wiping down the walls, getting ready to start painting tomorrow. At least that is the plan!
We were also lining up the materials we would need to make that new window come to life! I can’t wait for that!
I went in Rebecca’s room to make sure we were doing our new window framing the same way as we did hers, and I realized, I never showed any pictures of her room after it was done… at least I don’t think I did… So here are a few pictures of it the way she ended up decorating it…
Yeah, she likes the southwest theme…and colors.
She wanted a wood headboard but couldn’t find what she had in mind, so she drew it out and then she and her dad headed to the lumber yard at Menards and found some red cedar boards… then they started putting it together… on the dining room table. Boy, our dining room table gets lots of projects on it.
She stained it a redwood color.
When I found those pictures, I also found the ones of her room when it was apple green… She was 13 when we bought this house 17 years ago… that’s the color she wanted. I found 3 posts of when we did her bedroom, if you wanted to check them out again… We had TWO windows to frame in in her room and her rippled paneling was MUCH worse than ours was… I will just post the links to those posts last year if you want to check them out…
Our new bedroom is going to be this same color as hers, so seeing these pictures again makes me very anxious to get ours painted and put back together… just not with a southwest theme! :o) I’m still trying to decide how I want things in there… :o)
Day 1 of Rebecca’s bedroom renovations…
Over the hump with Rebecca’s bedroom makeover!
Last major day of the bedroom renovations …
Otherwise, I’ll see you Monday!
Have a great weekend,
Blessings, Jeanne
Well, Jeanne, you certainly do have a “Caulk King” for a husband and a very neat daughter! Rebecca did a great job on getting a Southwest them in her bedroom! That chifferobe next to her bed is just like the one my grandmother had in her bedroom! I’m sure that must have been an antique store find, since they don’t make those anymore! Wow, that headboard looks like a really heavy and substantional piece! I do remember when she was looking for a bed, and not finding anything she liked for the size she wanted. Is that a window behind the bed or just the illusion of one?
I am curious to know, what is that white box on the wall?
I have a sister who lives in Phoenix, and her whole house is decorated in the Southwest theme. Rebecca would love living there! Well, not the weather, but the house is just what she would like!
HI Linda,
Yes, I do and he was busy today taking out staples and tacks all around the edge of the room while I was painting up close to the trim by the ceiling. His goal is to be done by Thursday… Yikes…that’s going to be hard to make… but maybe…
That chifferobe next to Rebecca’s bed was my moms… It was covered in what looked like black tar when my mom got it from her brother. But she stripped it and stained it and Rebecca decided she would like to have it when we moved my mom. It IS a very nice piece…
There is a window behind the bed… just as big as the one on her other wall. They are big windows… the one in our bedroom is the same size too.. 48″ wide!
That white box is just a little curio like cabinet…It has a door and there are 2 shelves inside. I think she stores her perfumes and sprays in there…
The big colorful longhorn on the wall to the left of her bed was the first thing she bought when she was going to redo her room. All the other stuff came later.
Thanks Linda,
Blessings, Jeanne
I could see–there were a lot of spots for George to caulk! Good system, though, for you to spot and mark, and then he comes behind you and patches. I hope you get your painting done.
Thanks for sharing pictures of Rebecca’s bedroom; you are right–you never did show us the pictures of it completely finished! Her headboard turned out beautifully, and nicely matches that beautiful piece to the right of the bed–the one with a jewelry display on it. I’m not sure what that piece of furniture is, but it’s beautiful!!
HI Charlotte,
He said it made it easier to know if he had gotten all the spots caulked when he could see the blue tape. I am painting today and have the top section up by the trim painted one coat… We took a lunch break and will start up again… I think my hubby might be changing out all the outlets to white…
The piece of furniture you are talking about is a chifferobe that was my moms… she refinished it and when we moved my mom, Rebecca asked if she could use it… It’s very old and was a disaster when my mom got it. It holds a ton of stuff… the door on the left opens up and you can hang things in there or stack them… then there are all those drawers!
Thanks Charlotte,
I did get your pictures of your girls in their dresses and will share them…
Blessings, Jeanne
I had to look back to day one to figure out the corner of the room where George was working in the first photo and found the table with all of the tools one might possibly need for a project all ready to go. Vacuum too. This is a wonderful idea. Saves so many trips to find whatever. Anyway, hope you can get on to painting as planned. Will one coat do or two? I’m sure that window trim is going to take awhile, but I can’t wait to see the start of the floor. 🙂
How fun to see Rebecca’s room. Love the longhorn theme. Her furniture looks great too. Good job Rebecca! That Agreeable Gray is such a nice neutral that changing accessories for your room will be so fun. Make a note, must go shopping. Ha ha.
My RRFF girl has made it across the country from TN to Arkansas, Texas, New Mexico, and this morning she is visiting Arizona. She is due to arrive on Tuesday. Such a traveler. Can’t wait to see her. 🙂
Have a nice weekend everyone.
HI Joy,
Organization is one of my hubby’s best talents too! He is VERY organized… he thinks of EVERYTHING when he has a job to do… someone just commented on that the other day…that he had EVERYTHING they could possibly need on a job he was helping with… Plus when it’s up on a table, it’s much easier to reach than digging though a tool box on the ground. It’s kind of like a doctors instrument tray in an operating room… he asks for a flathead screwdriver, and I go right too it, he asks for the dikes, and I get them, the panel nails, and I get them…etc.
I started the painting this morning and it would be nice if I could get the first full coat finished today… I have the top section painted with the first coat… and it’s going to be SO nice… I’m loving how it looks. I’m sure it will take 2 coats…
This is Anaelle that is coming? Hope she makes it to your house on time… She is quite the traveler.
Blessings, Jeanne
Yes, Anaelle.
I think two coats should do it. At least we always end up with two coats to give it a good finish. The first coat always takes longer though. Seems like the paint gets really sucked into cracks etc. I really can’t wait to see it although, your prior color was nice too. Sounds like George has the schedule down. Fingers crossed you can get all of that done. 🙂
Well, I can see you kept George busy with the caulking. As a funny photo you could cut the caulk tubes in half and make George a true “Caulk King” crown with the tips pointing up and print out a sign.
Rebecca’s bedroom turned out just lovely with the Southwestern theme. Her Texas longhorn decor is quite neat. The headboard turned out very nice. My mom’s first cousin lives in Phoenix and their house has that look as well. The weather is horrible right now.
HI Laura,
I like your idea of a crown made from the caulk tubes… and I just might have to sneak a few out of the trash and make him one.. he’d get a kick out of that.
Thanks for the compliments on Rebecca’s room… it is very pretty in person and when you walk in there and if feels very warm and inviting.
It’s 89 degrees here but the heat index feels like 100! That’s why I’m inside painting!
Thanks Laura,
Blessings, Jeanne
You are very fortunate to have a “Caulk King” for a husband. Next to doing drywall my hubby doesn’t like caulking. Thankfully son Sean does so it at least gets done. I’m so glad you showed us Rebecca’s room. I always wanted to see the finished product, especially after the headboard was installed but I thought maybe she wanted privacy. Tell her she has a lovely room. A nice sanctuary. And I love the Chifforobe too. It looks perfect in her room. I’m not much for southwest decor but I do love the colors. Very warm and rich.
My Anaelle arrived yesterday and she is lovely. She seems more petite than the other RRFF. She is busy getting to know the rest of the family. That should take her awhile. I love her shoes, but not with that dress so hopefully her new shoes will arrive soon. She and Ruby are both awaiting their “legs” so they can stand because there is not much room for them to do anything else on the shelf.
Hope you reach your painting goal.
Thanks Barbara,
We did get the first coat of paint finished! My hubby loves the new color as much as I do! It’s like walking into a completely different room… very clean and bright now!
My hubby detests drywall, but he’s good enough at caulking that he doesn’t mind it. He has really large hands and I think when he drags his finger along the bead of caulk, it spreads it out to the perfect filler!
Yay for your Anaelle arriving so quickly. Wouldn’t it be fun if ALL the dolls we ordered arrived so fast? I was almost ready to push the buy button, but I already have 2 redheads and decided if I needed anything it’s a dark headed girl… if I just wait maybe one of them will turn up…
Thanks Barbara,
Blessings, Jeanne
Good late afternoon,
Well, the Caulk King and his right/left hand partner extraordinaire are such a team. Hope there is a little relaxing time tonight in store for you. It’s getting so close!
Thanks you for putting up the previously posts of the Rebecca room do-over. It’s absolutely wonderful and a miracle. I love that she and her dad made her headboard together and that she wanted her grandmother’s chifforobe. Not that many kids these days put any sentimental value on “old stuff”. Breaks my heart. But clearly your daughter is a treasure. Love her room and tastes.
Another rainy day in Salida. My lawn is getting so long; it just never slowed down this summer. Got the back yard done between raindrops anyway. Mowing and yard work keep this old girl moving and I enjoy it as much as I do ironing. It’s true!
My Anaelle arrived today and she got into the house while the man was at Safeway. She is gorgeous, but I did find putting on her necklace a challenge with these slippery old fingers. Mission accomplished and tomorrow our granddaughter can see what I was talking about….how much they look alike. Our Elle (Eleanor) has been here almost all week and will be most of next week, too. She and her mother have a lot of problems, and boy, I can totally identify with that. The woman is a “real piece of work”, no arguing about it. So, my man and I have been enjoying Miss Elle immensely. She turned 16 in June and will be graduating a year ahead of time, partly, I am afraid, to get away from her mother. It all makes me sad, though. Ah,nothing like good old fashioned family drama, right??? 😉
Youngest son and wife, whom we call “the FUN couple, will be coming over soon for dinner to celebrate his 44th birthday and enjoy his favorite key lime pie. I’m up for fun after the past couple days.
Have a great weekend everybody!
Sally
I somehow knew your Anaelle would arrive before mine. I still have to wait until Tuesday. 🙁 But wonderful that she was able to sneak into the house undetected. 🙂 Good job!
HI Sally,
Thanks for the compliments on Rebecca’s room… it’s very pretty the way she has it and now I’m thinking of how I’m going to do things in my NEW room… I don’t want to put the same old stuff in there this time… so my brain is going full speed ahead right now…
Congrats on getting your new Anaelle… she “almost” made it to my house.. I told my hubby about her and he didn’t say anything, so… I picked up my phone to look at her one last time and “she was sold out!” I knew it would happen if I waited too long, but like I told Barbara, I really need a dark headed girl and I should be good then… just as soon as RRFF comes out with one I like… in the mean time I can wait…
Great timing that your hubby was at the store… :o)
I hope Elle has a nice time with you and enjoys seeing herself in “doll form!” :o)
Oooooo…. eat a piece of key lime pie for me… one of my favorites! :o)
Well, I better go… I’m making chicken stir fry and need to get busy…
Thanks Sally,
Have a great weekend too!
Blessings, Jeanne
I gave in and ordered an Anaelle doll after taking one look at the back view. I’m so intrigued by miniature doll jewelry and furniture. I was having a terrible time paying with PayPal for some reason at one store, so I went to Samantha’s and got one right away before they sold out. Thanks, Sally, for the tip about that source for RRFFs. They have such happy faces.
Rebecca’s room looks like she has the Jeanne and Cindy genes for decorating. Very nicely coordinated room, Rebecca.
Oh, congratulations to you too, Susette, on getting that sweet little Anaelle! She was certainly one to consider… I almost nabbed her… but they keep coming out with such cute ones, even if you wait you can still find one you like… so I think I’ll wait for a dark headed one… but congrats to you… I liked her necklace too and had to see how they had it on her.
I don’t know if there are any of the dolls left at Happily Ever After or not… I’m not checking! ;o)
Rebecca knows what she likes and can usually find it… She has nice tastes in what she likes… it was fun to see her room come to be!
Thanks Susette,
Have fun with your new dolly… I hope she gets to you soon!
Blessings, Jeanne
Was glad to see how Rebecca’s finished room turned out. I really like the headboard she and her dad collaborated on. So much talent in one family!!
When you made your shams a couple of years ago, (how CAN it be that long?) your second fabric choice would be perfect now with the agreeable gray. It was a similar print but cream, gray and blue and a touch of rose. Wonder if you still have it in your decorator stash? What a time and money saver it would be, besides beautiful. Really enjoy seeing your fixer upper updates and then the finished reveals. Thank you!
HI Dorothy,
She really loves that headboard too… it took her a while to figure out what she wanted but once she decided and then got it made, she was very happy!
I don’t think I’ve thrown any of my decorator fabric away, so maybe it’s upstairs where I did put some of those heavier fabrics… I’ll have to go take a look…
I’m glad you enjoy seeing what we do… sometimes it feels like it might be boring to everyone, but it’s what’s happening in our lives right now, so if I have a post, it has to be about it…
Thanks Dorothy,
Blessings, Jeanne
