I just can’t seem to leave well enough alone…that’s probably because I don’t think they looked well enough to leave them alone… So I did a little tweaking… sometimes that’s all I seem to get done… today was another super busy day and I never made it to your comments again…
Someone thought the chain necklace with the dream catcher looked a bit chunky (and I did too) so I bought some new chain today that was a bit less bulky and also had a bit brighter silvery look to it.
Here was the old chain on the bottom and the new one on top…
This was the old chain with the dream catcher…
Rebecca changed this one for me as the links in the chain were so small and I am not experienced in getting those jump rings closed like she does… So this is the new look for the blue necklace…
I actually changed the necklaces to this… the silver one has the new chain and hooks in back with a magnetic closure…
Then I shortened the blue ribbon about 1/2″ and it has a loop at the end with a hook to run through that loop…
Then I put together a whole new chain that has a hook at the end and the chain links are just left as they were…
The winner can change the colorful round charm to the blue ribbon or pull it out and use the chain by just running it though the jump ring attached to the charm and hook the chain behind your dolls neck wherever you’d like it to fall… if you want it shorter, just hook a chain link a few links away from the end.
The winner can also use the chain for any charm they might have that would slide on.
I hope you like the versatility of the necklaces… (I aim to please!) :o)
Remember a while back I was helping with the food for a going away party for a lady at our church? Well, that lady was going through her things and decided to give me her sewing basket… (It kind of gave me a chuckle, as I looked at ALL her sewing supplies in this one small plastic basket.) I sorted through it and decided to take you along for a peek at everything…
This was the top tray…
This is what I took out and decided I might use… some wooden spools, thread, needles, pipe cleaners, a few buttons, some vintage velvet leaves, snaps, a few pieces of lace and some embroidered napkins or some kind of towel, and lots of other small goodies…
In the very bottom of the box was this… a teeny tiny Nixon penny.
This was in the “I’m not keeping this stuff” pile…
I loaded that stuff back in the box and will take it to Goodwill…
Well, that’s it for my day… I just found out Sara is back in the US so maybe I can get to the bottom of this comments issue. Now I’m not even getting a notice on my phone that someone has left a comment, (like I was before). I have to go into my blog and see if there are any new comments and if so, approve them… I promise it won’t be like this forever… please be patient as I try to get it figured out…
See you Monday,
Blessings, Jeanne
I love the smaller chain on the dream catcher; really suits it so much better. It’s also nice to have the versatility of either chain or ribbon for the other necklace. I think you’ve added even more value to this “package”, Jeanne!!
Oh, yes, there’s no way even 1/100th of my sewing stuff would fit into that sewing basket!! LOL But what fun to look thru all the goodies, and how thoughtful of Norma to give them to you!! I see some vintage wooden spools in there, as well as a number of sewing tools, etc. Those loose plastic “feet” are probably for installing Invisible Zippers; I have a set, too. (Used them once, but I hate invisible zippers–too hard to use, although they install nicely.)
Hm, I wonder if we’ll see those velvet leaves on a hat for someone in the future?! That’s what I think of when I see them!
Kathie, I replied to your request about lightweight sewing machines on yesterday’s blog, if you want to see what I wrote.
Sally, I’m so glad Kipper is happy with Sugar as a new playmate! And, yes, the expressions on those RRFF do make me smile!!
I still don’t have Maya in her new dress (and she’s getting miffed!!), but today was a busy day, and also very gray and gloomy (but we are still dry as can be). Hopefully tomorrow!!
Laura, I agree–the beautiful accessories of the old PC dolls were partly what drew me, too. I have Addy’s (and Kirsten’s!) ice cream freezer, and it is just wonderful! Also Kirsten’s furniture (bought from a young lady who was selling a bunch of her stuff) and Molly’s lovely trunk, as well as her school supplies. I had a school bag just like hers when I was a little girl, only mine was red plaid, rather than solid!
Joy, your neighbor could end up getting a huge water bill (including fines!) if your water company finds out he/she has that big leak! And it might not take too long. Then something would Have to be done!
Time for bed. Good night, everyone!
HI Charlotte,
We just got home from working at the dorm… electrical stuff… and now it’s time to answer some comments…
I’m glad you like the smaller chain now… me too… Josefina…three!
I don’t think 1/1000th of my stuff would fit in that box… it’s quite small… but Norma only did a few things sewing wise…she developed severe arthritis in her fingers and was very limited at what she could do… It was fun for me to see what she had in there… :o)
Yes, I’m sure those velvety leaves will go on a hat for someone… they are really pretty!
I have a few ladies who said they were working on things for their dolls. I’ll wait on your dress for Maya and maybe do a post of everyone’s sewing all in one…
I read your comments to Kathie about the Featherweight machines… they were heavy…
I Hope you get rain and get Maya dressed soon so she’s not mad at you anymore… :o)
Thanks Charlotte,
Blessings, Jeanne
My FW isn’t all That heavy, Jeanne; it’s from 1948, so I don’t know if maybe the earlier ones were super heavy, but I can handle mine, and I’m small. (I can no longer easily lift my Viking #1+, for instance, although I used to be able to.)
I’m still not sold on the blue necklace. Just a little too gaudy for me. If it were mine, I’d leave the dark blue circle thingy and add the silver dangles from the bottom to it and use the rest for something else. But that’s just my taste. It is very nice that the chains can be switched around and used with different pieces giving Josefina lots of choices. 🙂
I really had a laugh with that plastic box. I have the identical box, but in blue. It used to be my craft box years ago. In fact, I took it to college with me in 1970. 🙂 The items inside at that time, like a hammer and brushes were very popular with friends who borrowed them. From your donation pile, I think at least one of those bobbins may go to a Singer Featherweight machine? And that poncho pattern is a kick. 🙂 Love those old wooden spools too. Glad they are in the keep pile. So much history in an old sewing box. 🙂
Sorry to hear that the moderation problem is getting worse. Is the problem only when you use your phone or on your computer/laptop too? I’m pretty sure it comes from an update, but hopefully, your computer person can straighten it out. Did you ever talk to those at WordPress?
Have a nice weekend. Looks like we may be in for some dry lightning. Not good.
HI Joy,
Sorry you aren’t crazy about the blue necklace, but I’m going to leave it as it is, because I don’t want to bother Rebecca with it anymore… I need to get “finished” with this set and get it listed… but my day went too long at the dorm and there is no time to get it all done before it needs to be listed… I was hoping maybe I could, but I can’t…
I liked the wooden spools and can use the thread off the older threads for basting and things like that… I think just having the wooden spools in a pretty dish is “art” for me…
Word Press doesn’t have a phone number for technical support… they do have forums but since I found out Sara is back in town, I was hoping she could just help me in person. If she’s not at church tomorrow, there is another guy at church who is a super computer genius that I plan to talk to… this is crazy…
I hope the dry lightning is something that never materializes… it doesn’t sound like it would be good…for anything…
Thanks Joy,
Blessings, Jeanne
Dear Jeanne,
It will be a relief for you when Sarah fixes your glitch. I can only imagine your frustration as everything had been going on so perfectly. So good luck and have a super weekend doing work and fun stuff, too. Also, I am very much liking your necklace tweaks. They are awesome. This entire outfit is killer.
I had mentioned to you by email that I thought it would be fun to dress up some of my AG’s in their Jeanne Marie’s and take pics to send to you. Well, I’m a bit following Barbara in reorganization at least of some of the bins of of doll clothes in the guest room and guest room closet while I was in search of everything. (I think having a guest room with no guests but dolls is the absolute best.) It was a lot of hauling and lifting, but the process did help with organization. I also have to admit what fun it was going through those bins as well as the ones in the MBR and front garage and seeing all those extraordinary outfits once again. Anyway, this morning I will dress the 5 dolls left in your colonials and then do some picture taking. Whether or not you want to share them, they are mainly for you to enjoy and take a trip down memory lane, and maybe fun seeing them grouped together.
That sewing box blew my mind away. ALL of that was in the box?? But what fun going through someone else’s treasures and thinking of the that person as you do so. Thanks for sharing this as many things jogged my memory of the sewing boxes from my mom and MIL.
Charlotte, both you and Laura made me think about getting out at least part of my AG accessories to display in a cabinet which now houses my favorite photos of ancestors. I do find comfort and joy looking at those photos every now and then. I do use my Addy trunk and Kirsten trunk for my AG doll shoes, tights and sox. My Josefina trunk holds LD wigs and special underwear. Love those trunks.
Time for old Sal to get cracking, dress those dolls and clean up the guest room that looks like a total disaster. Everyone, have a lovely weekend, and I am looking forward to a Maya dress and a doll convention report, and to an easier time for Jeanne with this blog!
HI Sally,
The comments not going through is not only a frustration to me, but I’m sure it is to my readers just as much… I’m hoping to get some answers from someone tomorrow… I just told Joy, Word Press doesn’t have phone service for technical problems… ugh!
Oh, Sally, what fun it was seeing those dresses again.. I will definitely be sharing them… I think I’ll add a picture or two of mine from each one so they can see the close up details on the dresses. You have some “Oldies but goodies” there! :o)
I think this must be “get out ALL our dolly stuff week… props, dresses, wigs, shoes and anything dolly related and SHOW it! And clean those rooms while we are at it… :o)
Yes, a Maya dress, a Kirsten skirt and apron, Alina’s been busy, Joy Carter’s been busy, and I am trying to solve computer problems… We all can play our part! :o)
Thanks Sally,
blessings, Jeanne
I have missed several days of discussions but am loving the idea of actually displaying my collection of vintage accessories for the American Girls, with or without the dolls. I had to laugh, my guest room for dolls is the cleanest, most organized room in my house! Thankfully the closet was outfitted only with shelves, no hanging racks. I have happily filled them with the “bins”. Note from ten days ago, I don’t know if you saw my answer to your question about the Little Darling, it is MHD designs.
HI Debbie,
I had to laugh that you said your guest room for the dolls is the cleanest, more organized room in your house… it must have something to do with the love of your dolls.
I’ll have to go back and look at your previous comments about the Little Darlings.
Thanks Debbie,
Blessings, Jeanne
