Poppy and the Props!

Just a Reminder: Addy’s “Winter Elegance” dress set ends this evening on Ebay… I hope you’ll take a peek if you haven’t seen it already. You can click on the picture at the right side bar or you can click HERE

My sisters and I had a wonderful last day together and did some painting, some shopping at TJ Maxx, we ate lunch at Panera’s (today was their first day of being open for dine in eating since October or November, I think), we went to Sonic, I made taco’s for dinner and then we had apple pie and ice cream for dessert! It was a very full but wonderful day and we were pooped!

I didn’t get anything done in my sewing room, but Poppy was itching to get a few more pictures taken… (I only have a few more days left with her.)

Poppy Tries Out More Props!

“Poppy, what are you doing up there?”

Looking at the rest of the props! I want to try out a few more things before I have to leave your house…

“Okay, pick out your favorites and I’ll take your picture…”

I like this pink velvety couch! It’s comfy!

I wish I could go to school… I’d pick a desk just like this one!

I like this fancy pink bed… can I sleep in it?

“I really think it’s too small for you… you’re a big girl.”

(Navi) Hey, that’s MY bed!

Look at me!!! I’m riding a tricycle!!!

What about THIS bed? It’s the perfect size!

“Yes, it is… and I think it’s time for you to go to bed. We only have a couple days left together before you have to go on your trip to Michigan… you better get some rest…”

Well, my days with Poppy are almost over, and then I’ll be back to what I’m usually doing… sewing!

I haven’t read your comments from today, but I see they are long so I’m heading to bed to read them…

I’ll see you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Poppy certainly made the most of her time with your props, didn’t she? I see that Navi straightened her out on the matter of the little pink bed!!

    Thanks for the fun pictures!!

  2. Such cute pictures, Jeanne! I think we are all going to miss Poppy when she leaves, but I also think she will have a lot of fun memories of staying in Carbondale! The things she will be able to tell the next hosting family!! I doubt they will have all the wonders a doll seamstress like you will have! Who needs the Eiffel Tower for a background when she can have a couch, bed, desk and bicycle her very own size?!! LOL

    1. Hi Linda,
If Poppy were just some little doll that didn’t bend and pose like she does, it probably wouldn’t have been as much fun having her here as it was…
I might take her with me tomorrow and find some places in town to take her picture… Today might have been the better day, but I needed to stay at home and catch up on a few things.
I think I might miss her too… now to enjoy everyone else’s pictures on facebook of the dolls they are hosting…
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Thanks, Joy, Melody and Kathie, for the tips about finding wool fabric for doll clothes. I might have to go farther inland to find wool at the thrift shops! I live in North Orange County, California, just south of Los Angeles County, about five miles from the beach as the crow flies. It can be 80 degrees here sometimes and one can often see the mountains 75 miles inland where people are ⛷ skiing. One doesn’t have to wait for a quick weather change; just hop in the car and it’s about an hour away. It is helpful if the location one is referring to is included in comments about the weather.

The expected strong winds will hopefully blow away the smoke today. Air quality restrictions have been lowered to allow crematoriums to operate more due to the toll the virus is exacting. How very sad for our country.

    1. HI Susette,
I hope you find some wool for doll clothes at some thrift shops… they are a great place to find lots of different things.. .more than any fabric store usually… :o)
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Your Poppy episodes are reminding me of
The Story of Live Dolls by Josephine Scribner Gates. Also reminding me of my little friends Ziyad and Mazen when they visit. They get into everything!

    1. HI Joy,
I don’t know the Story of love dolls, and I’m not sure who Ziyad and Mazen are either…
Boy, I’m not much help today… but they both sound like mischief is involved…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Glad you were able to get out and about with your sisters. Wouldn’t be able to eat out here as we are still on take out only. Heard the mention of painting. Can’t wait to see the results.
Looks like Poppy is keeping herself well occupied. Perhaps, she’ll be so tired that sleeping in her box on the way to Michigan will be welcome. 🙂
More craziness here. Last evening, we felt a rumble shake. An earthquake. Just a baby 2.7, but centered only a couple of miles away. Not sure what fault it was on. There have been a lot of quakes lately way to the north and in South America. It was ironic as earlier in the day when it hit 80 and was terribly windy, I mentioned to other person that it was earthquake weather. And it was. 🙂

    1. HI Joy,
Yes, the painting has started but I’m going to wait until I have enough done for a bit of a shocker… in a few days maybe… :o)
Poppy has been keeping herself occupied… but I think I’m ready to have my sewing room back…she takes a lot of time… well, I guess that might be MY fault! :o)
Yikes, an earthquake… when was the last one that did any damage?
      Keep safe!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. It is always interesting what little bits of info I find reading the comments. It stopped me suddenly when I read that LA had smoke in the air from the “crematoriums” and several quakes Omgosh! That is astounding. I know California is warm and sunny but give me quiet, normal , 4 season Nebraska. We can run to the basement when a tornado comes😳🥴
Poppy is just made for so many of those cute props. She will need a day or two of sleep time on her way to Michigan.
Just so excited to see the “painting” that happened while your sisters were there. You guys did it all! Take a nap today!

    1. HI Kathie,
I’m with you… we have some storms occasionally and tornados but not too many earthquakes…and the seasons are definitely definable…
Poppy really is a great size for SO many of my props…that’s why she got shown with so many of them… it was just easy pictures… I might try to take her out somewhere in town and show a bit of Southern Illinois… or maybe the University…
I’ll show the “painting” in a few days… want to work on a bit more…
      Thanks Kathie,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Just thought of something, Jeanne. If Poppy is leaving soon, why not have her pose in front of one of the buildings at SIU? You could be standing away from the building to get the whole shot, then hold her up in front of the building to look like she is right there. She would get lost for sure right up to the building! Plus the students would think….what’s up with that crazy lady?😆
But at least that’s one big thing in Carbondale that could mark her time there.

    1. HI again Linda,
I’m going to try that somewhere in town tomorrow… I should have gotten her out sooner, but we were having too much fun in the props…
Yes, there’s one of those “crazy doll ladies!” :o)
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Jeanne, so glad you had a nice time with your sisters. It sounds like you did a lot of fun things.

Poppy sure is a curious little girl. Her poses are so cute. Since she’s little, she has many places to explore!

I enjoyed seeing all the pictures yesterday. Joy, your grands looked like they were having a lot of fun in the snow. Beautiful scenery and loved the kitty with the pine needle whiskers.
The crumb materials were a good way to use up scraps and the bags/purses or whatever they will become is a fabulous idea.
The doll pictures were nice to see. Again, a few dolls I’ve never seen before. They were pretty dolls. Loved the knitted clothing for the LD dolls. Snazzy outfits. The boots were cool. I’m amazed at what outfits and shoes are available for dolls these days.
I agree with Susette on the pictures of the children being held by their caretakers. Sad. I’d think the real mothers would have preferred being with their children in the pictures.
I hope I didn’t miss anyone who sent in pictures. It’s always so interesting to see what our sofa friends send in.

    1. HI Paula,
We really didn’t do anything until the day before they left… then we did it all in one day, it seemed… but we did have a nice time…we always do… talking, laughing, sharing stories, rehashing memories, and we just have a great time doing it.
Poppy has been a fun adventure for me and I think she enjoyed herself too.
I’m glad you enjoyed the pictures yesterday…it’s always fun to see what comes in my emails and when I get to share them in one post… you never know what will come up … I enjoy it as much as anybody! :o)
      Thanks Paula,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. I’m really going to miss Poppy when she moves on. I’m curious. Did she do okay eating all that pizza? Maybe that’s why she was looking for a bed so she could lie down. I know how I’ve felt when I’ve eaten too much. Navi may be little but she is definitely not someone you push around. You go Navi! That desk and chair are perfect for Poppy. You need to get a Chibbi, Jeanne.

We’re back in a warming tend here in the Houston area. Crazy place to live. Kathie mentioned 4-season Nebraska. That’s how I felt when I lived in southeast PA. Winter was cold with occasional snow, spring was warm with flowers blooming, summer was not too hot and we didn’t need A/C and Fall was absolutely gorgeous with beautiful Fall leaves and crisp air. And often we had Indian summer. Recently though the weather where I lived has been harsher than I ever remembered with lots of rain, wind, a lot of snow and sometimes a tornado. I only heard of one of those the whole time I was growing up and it was not really in our area. I heard about it from my friend who was visiting family a good distance away and saw it first hand. The current weather is more like the weather my grandmother talked about when she was growing up in the early 1900s.

An earthquake for Joy. Oh no! One scary thing after the other in California.

    1. HI Barbara,
I will miss Poppy too, but she has taken up some of my time that I should have been sewing for my “own” girls, but it was a nice diversion…She enjoyed her pizza… and she slept wonderfully that night! :o)
I’m not sure I’ll get a Chibbi… they are the same size in the torso as Navi, but they just have longer legs and longer arms and her head is bigger… I haven’t made up my mind yet, but she’s not even up for preorder yet…
As much as I’m not fond of snowing and icy weather, or super hot and humid summer days, I still enjoy the different seasons… and being able to change out my closet every few months! ;o)
      Thanks Barbara,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  10. Glad you had a good time with your sisters. you certainly crammed a lot into your weekend.
Joy, we still get the occasional aftershock, generally we don’t feel anything under 3. I now know far more about earthquakes than I ever wanted to know and one thing I have learnt is that the Richter scale doesn’t tell you much. 2.7 doesn’t sound much but can be pretty bad if it is only a short distance deep. None of ours were more than 20kms deep and most were under 10kms. That is fairly shallow for an earthquake but I remember that Spain had one that was 5 but only a mile deep and that was devastating.
We had a nor-wester yesterday (28C) which is a hot, dry wind, perfect for fires!! The Port Hills had a scrub fire but fortunately the fire brigade were alerted and managed to get it under control very quickly and residents were able to return to their houses. Same weather again for us today. Lots of rain on the West Coast but the mountains blocked it from us except for a sprinkle which wasn’t much use for anything. (Susette, this is ‘down under’ in Christchurch NZ where it is summer.)
Jeanne, I loved Poppy’s antics today, I’m going to miss her when she moves on. I bet she will miss you and all your props

    1. HI Anne,
I was telling my sisters about your sister being (I think you said) 12,000 miles away and you might never see her in person again… we had a hard time imaging that! Oh how awful…

I can’t even remember when I felt my last earthquake… I think it was about 2005, when we had just bought our house… we were laying in bed and we heard the closet doors rattling against one another… that was quite a while ago…and I’m glad!
I’m glad you enjoyed Poppy’s pictures today… She sure does work well for lots of my props. I bet there were some I hadn’t shown before…
      Thanks Anne,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  11. Oh my, an earthquake for Joy. I agree with you Kathie, Ohio is pretty normal as well. We have our four seasons, and yes, may have to head to the basement for a tornado warning, Of course, we get snow and can have blizzards, but I’m okay with that.
Glad you had such a nice time with your sisters, Jeanne.
Poppy had a lot of fun exploring the props. Some of them I’ve never seen before. Like most of us collect clothing and doll accessories you collect fabric and props. LOL You could share them all with us sometime as it is always fun to see what people find at thrift stores etc.

    1. Thanks Laura,
Yes, that makes three of us who are happy of where we live… Kathie in NE, you in Ohio and me, in southern Illinois! :o)
We did have a nice time and it’s always too short… but at least we get together every few months or so… they didn’t say when they’d be back, but I’m pretty sure it will happen again…

I do have lots of props and even the cabinet shelf I have them on, really isn’t big enough to hold them all.. .maybe I still need to thin them out a bit more… or have another place where I can put some of the bigger things…
      Thanks Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  12. Sunshine here today. Yesterday we had sunshine while it snowed, but it didn’t stick. That makes it dull here, but compared to what many of you have, I’m grateful.
I’ve heard a rumor that you ordered a Sara doll, Jeanne. I do hope it’s true.
We haven’t been able to convince you to write a book — what about making patterns to sell on Pixie Faire?
I’ll miss Poppy. I wish that, at the end of her travels, she could return to you. Do you know if her maker is seeing the pictures of her adventures?

    1. HI Marilyn,
I like to see the sun shining while it snows…there’s nothing prettier…
Yes, I did order a Sara doll, but who knows when she’ll get here… I did that on the 8th and she’s been stuck in PA for days and days!
I actually have been studying how to make and sell patterns… I’m not even close to it yet, but I’m closer than I was 6 months ago…
I’m not sure if Miroslava has seen any of my pictures.. they are posted on her Meadow Fan Club page… but lots of other ladies have certainly commented and liked seeing her in all the props and things we’ve done… I think the one with the most comments and likes was when she found the sewing machine… and we were sewing… :o)
      Thanks Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne
