“Hello Fall” gets a shawl…

Many of you already guessed the last piece for Kirsten’s dress set might be a shawl…and you were right. I don’t know how to knit one, so I had to dig in my fabric stash and see what I could find that would be limp and cozy and MATCH the colors. I’ve used this before as a shawl and I think it works. It’s neutral enough to work with the blue… I cut it into an elongated triangle and fringed the edges. I first stitched about 1/4″ away from the edges so it wouldn’t keep unraveling…

Here are some pictures of it on Kirsten…and a “guest” model.

We went outside and I guess I was disturbing the birds at the feeder, because they kept coming to it, even though I was only about four feet away. I did capture a picture of a Nuthatcher before he realized Kirsten and I were there.

It started sprinkling so we had to move back inside…

Addy wanted to get in on the modeling action, so here are a few pictures of her in the dress. I think it could easily be a Civil War dress, don’t you?

It’s still raining so no outside pics for Addy…at least today!

I need to think of a story line (I think it was Joy who mentioned something… I’ll have to go back and see what it was) and find some kind of accessory for this one…

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Lovely ensemble, Jeanne! Thanks for showing it on Addie, too–definitely I think it could be a Civil War-era dress, as well. That said, although Addie looks good in it, it truly looks best on Kirsten! She’s so much a “blue” girl!! And that fabric does make a lovely soft-looking shawl!

In the past, I have used a fringed flannel scarf (from Eddie Bauer!) for a shawl for my Kirsten; I had a pink/blue plaid one that went well with an outfit I made for her. I believe it is about 20″ square, then folded diagonally, so it really covers quite a lot of her, but, in really cold weather, the Swedish women did wear fairly large shawls like that, especially if they needed extra warmth over their coats (or in place of coats, I suppose).

    1. Hi Charlotte
I agree with you this time…Kirsten wears it better!
I’m going to have to start looking for a new piece of shawl fabric…this piece is almost gone… boohoo…I’ve loved it.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. So Miss Kirsten is all ready to go to the market to get something tasty for her Momma to bake! Perhaps apples for a pie? I wish I knew what Swedish mothers made for the family, but I am not Swedish, so I don’t have a clue!

Hmm, that shawl looks familiar to me! Yes, I do believe I have a dress for Betsy that you made that I completely adore! It is the perfect kind of a fabric you would use for a shawl, and it will keep Kristen so nice and warm while on her shpping trip! Maybe she could be holding a basket with apples?

I tell you, Jeanne, that Fair Tax ad of yours that goes on and on, is here on TV in my neck of the woods too! We get your political ads here along with ours, and it drives me crazy no end!! We have a doozy of an ad here, Amendment 3, which if passed, will undo what 72% of the people voted for two years ago, and it is a trick question!!

My thanks to Laura and others wno helped me out in the Oxy Clean dilemna! It’s so nice to know we have “resident experts” here on the blog!!

    1. hi Linda,
I still haven’t decided what Miss Kirsten will be doing or holding…
Yes. The dress you got for Betsy is from the same fabric… My favorie for years. Now it’s time to find something new for shawls and scarves…
Yes. Some of those ads are tricky and down right lies…I hate those kinds of ads.
Still kind of drizzly here…but the leaves are pretty…
      Thanks Linda
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Perfect timing. Your new Julie should show up Friday so you can show her off Saturday and have something started for her on Monday. I’ll be surprised if something else happens, but your surprises are usually nice ones (except for colds and sprained ankles), so I won’t mind.

It helps to see the new dress on Addy too –clearly it would look good on any AG, though it is special on Kristen. I especially like the white collar — it adds a bright note that suits Kristen’s personality.

    1. hi Marilyn,
Actually I got an update and it shows she’s out for delivery today!! I was loking at patterns a while ago trying to decide what to make her…

I like the dress best on Kirsten but will use the pictures of Addy in my listing… I might try it on another girl too…

      Thanks so much
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. So pretty, Jeanne. Yes, Kirsten (and Addy too) look ready for and happy for fall in her snug shawl and cozy looking dress. Well done!

    Blessings.

    1. Thank you Becky
I had to take Addy’s braids down from the way I’ve had them so the bonnet would fit on her head.. she looks so strange to me now…
      Thanks for your sweet comments
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. How enjoyable to see your nuthatch. We have a CA Whitebreasted Nuthatch that I have been seeing lately at the feeder and in the Catalpa pecking at bugs. It makes an unusual sound too. 🙂
Love the outdoor photos and the indoor. Little Kirsten is such a cutie in this outfit.

    1. thanks Joy
The birds didn’t seem to care that Kirsten and I were in their territory…they kept flying around while we were working.
Kirsten IS pretty cute in this!!
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. The thing on my mind today is snow. Serious snow! The upper 3/4 of Minnesota got snow, the most in the middle of the state. My brother in Fargo got about 6 inches but he said it’s melting. The southern part only got a heavy mist so no shoveling for hubby. Up here we “only” got 2 inches but it’s overcast and 30* so it is not going to melt. It looks very pretty as it is layered over all the bare tree branches right down to the tiniest twigs. The evergreens are heavily coated to the point my dad was concerned about branches breaking. More is coming from now until early next week. Oh, and I do have a jacket and sweatshirt and t-necks to layer and a wool poncho to throw over all of it. I won’t freeze. Bike riding is kind of done.

Addy looks great in that outfit! I hope you include her picture when you list on eBay.

    1. hi Julia
Yep, nothing like snow to curb your bike riding!! Is this early for snow there?
Yes. I will include Addy in the listing….
      Thanks Julia
      Stay warm
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Kirsten looks warm and cozy in her shawl. Addy looks nice it it as well. This outfit is so bright and cheerful. I enjoyed seeing your nuthatch. We have them here as well and it’s fun to see them going head first down a tree trunk.
I saw on PT that you did get a new Julie and Marilyn is right. We can view her on Saturday and then she can help you pick her debut fabric for Monday after she gets acquainted with the others.

    1. HI Laura,
“Someone” needed that shawl this afternoon as it was a bit on the chilly side… yep, another dolly gets to show off in the dress tomorrow… and does she ever look pretty in it!!!

Yes, I caved and bought a Julie doll… I don’t know what I was thinking…but I just hit that button and off we went… back to the 70’s!
      Thanks Laura…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Kirsten looks wonderful in this beautiful outfit. Love the shawl. This outfit is so complete except maybe a little basket of something.
Can’t wait to see when it’s complete. Your pictures outside are so nice. Addy looks cute in the outfit too!

    1. Thank you Paula,
I think Kirsten does look pretty in it too…it’s such a pretty combination of colors in the fabric. I wish there was lots more of the fabric… but about 2 dresses, maybe 3 is all I’ll get out of it… Oh well, enjoy what I do have and make it look the best on the dolls.
Today was a pretty day so we went outside again… only this time with… ???
      See you tomorrow,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. The dress looks very nice on both Addie and Kirsten, but I think it’s more a Kirsten dress because it really brings out the color of her eyes. The shawl is the perfect complement to the rest of the outfit.

I was just sending a birthday card to a friend using Jacquielawson.com. If anyone is not familiar with the site, it’s definitely worth a look-see. I love their cards, but I also love their interactive Advent Calendars. Each year they do something amazing and there is new tech added to enhance the experience. Last year was Christmas in the Cotswolds and I think that may be my all-time favorite, but I think the one this year might appeal to some of the sofa sisters. It’s Christmas in the Nordic Countries. The cost is minimal and definitely worth the price. I get them for myself, family and friends and they are always enjoyed. Last year one of my friends had health issues I wasn’t aware of. She is usually very busy but because she was confined she said she enjoyed it more than ever. So it became a get well card also. I know there are some on the blog with Nordic roots so I thought I’d mention it. Even if you don’t, it should be a lot of fun and very informative.

    1. Thank you Barbara….
I like the dress best on Kirsten too…but Addy holds her own in it. I’m glad you like the shawl…
I’ve had those cards of Jacquie’s sent to me before and they ARE lovely… She is certainly a talented painter/drafter/card maker/artist… whatever you call her… she knows her stuff!
I hope your friend enjoys her birthday card!
      Blessings, Jeanne

Oooh, Christmas in the Nordic countries! Definitely need that!!

Our pastor has bought the Advent calendars for us members (we’re a small congregation), and I’ve enjoyed the last three or four of them. Then I sent a card earlier this year (I’m a subscriber, too) and got the Curio Collection free! I wish more of their cards featured sewing/needlework and/or dolls, though!!

  10. I am a day late but I want to congratulate you on your 2000th post! What a wonderful accomplishment. I so enjoy reading this blog when I am not sidetracked. I discovered it when I bought one of your beautiful dresses. I love Kirsten’s beautiful new, blue dress! Best wishes, Jeanne!

    1. Thank you Nora…
I’ll take those “day old congratulations” on my 2000th post. Thank you very much!

I’m glad you are a part of this group and glad you get to read it as often as you can…
      Thank you so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  11. Kirsten’s shawl looks lovely. The whole outfit looks great. I think it would look good on any 18 inch doll but it is especially nice on Kirsten with her blue eyes.
I haven’t done much on finishing the outfit for my Victorian Fashionista. I have been making items for my friend’s shop. We are having a Christmas market/afternoon tea on 29th November so have been making items for that. I have made three of the bags and part way through little children’s mug rugs for Santa’s drink and snack and the reindeer snack. Will send a picture when they are finished. It was a design on a plastic table mat which I found at the equivalent of your dollar stores.

I had something odd in my in box this morning. It was written by someone with very poor English language skills and was a “question” on my E Bay order. It said the item I had ordered had been returned by the post office and did I want a refund! I am thinking it is a scammer hoping to get my account details. The item wasn’t too expensive (around $25NZ) so I think I would rather waive good bye to the money than take a risk, what do you girls think? Anyone had a similar experience? I must say it puts me off using EBay!

Linda and Jeanne, I am so glad our election is over and we don’t have to put up with any more ads. Not that ours are like yours. We are such a small country that we vote for who we want as our representative in parliament and they will follow the policies of the party be that Government or opposition. We also have a second vote for the party we want and they don’t necessarily have to be the same, i.e. you might think your local MP, who is a member for the National party, is doing a really good job for the electorate but you want the Green Party to have a say in Parliament, so you vote one tick for your choice of candidate and one tick for your choice of party. Since our TV channels are nation wide and not individual areas we only see generic party ads (usually the Party Leaders ).
We do have Local Body elections but they are held at a different time and again, because our TV is nation wide there are no TV ads. Except for the Electoral Commission urging people to get enrolled and vote.

I’m looking forward to seeing your new doll and what you decide to make for her.

    1. Thank you for your nice compliments on Kirsten’s dress set, Anne.
It is getting that time of year again when the craft shows start up… but I’m not sure if there will be any around here this year… The governor of IL just closed down all indoor dining as of Thursday… everyone is SO mad… the business owners, I mean… AND the people too..

I’d play it safe and not answer it either… I’ve been scammed once and it cost me $217…but my son called Paypal and talked to them and they gave me a refund after he told them what happened… whew!

Oh dear…the cat is out of the bag… Yes, I bought a Julie (again) and will be showing her soon…
      Thanks Anne,
      Blessings, Jeanne

do you have a butter churn? or a spinning wheel?
That’s what this dress makes me think .

    1. Hi Carol,
You are so right about this fabric!! It is lovely! And yes, you SHOULD get an American Girl too!
      Blessings, Jeanne
