My FEVER had a happy ending…

This week as I was sewing, I was watching an episode of Little House on the Prairie and I couldn’t believe it. There was a quarantine in Walnut Grove because a fever was going around. The kids had to stop going to school and the neighbors weren’t supposed to get near each other. Laura decided to take some strawberries she had picked to a neighbor girl who loved them and was just going to leave them on the front porch. Well, she heard the girl moaning inside and calling for her papa…so Laura opened the door just enough to step inside and see the girl was all by herself. Her pa (who had already had the fever and was immune) had gone down to the creek for a few minutes. When he came back he made Laura stay so she wouldn’t infect her family. She did get a rash and slightly feverish, but, as things usually end well on the Little House on the Prairie series, it turns out Laura’s rash and fever were only from the poison ivy she had gotten from picking the strawberries! It was a great episode!

Then a few days ago, while I was sewing, I was watching a western called The Virginian and there were some cattle guys trying to cross over some of the ranchers properties but their cattle was suspected to have Spanish Fever. It wasn’t certain they had it, but they had no way to tell if they didn’t. The ranchers drew a quarantine line on the ground and basically “dared” the cattle drivers to cross it. The ranchers decided to meet at the quarantine line and steer the cattle away if they came too close. It ended with the main cattle driver getting shot and the rest of the men turned the cattle to the south to avoid the ranchers properties.

Both of these episodes hit a little close to home with all this quarantine around us everywhere.

So let me tell you about MY fever…It’s not nearly as bad as those two storylines, but I thought they were a great segway…

Back in May, Kristoffer gave me some money for Mother’s Day and said, “I’m sure you could use this for a new doll, right?” Well, duh… what do you think? There had been a doll I was drawn too and I wasn’t exactly sure why… she was a custom doll and had on a Mary Poppins outfit… I wasn’t interested in the outfit, but there was something about her that kept making me come back and look at her. She even had those decal eyelashes but they just seemed to make her more beautiful to me… so I debated and debated for a few days but just couldn’t get her out of my mind. Because I had put her on my watch list, the lady sent me a better offer out of the blue and I guess I thought that was my green light. So I accepted her offer and now she’s mine. I’ve had her in the box all this time. She came right when I was working on the messiest part of my room…

I thought I’d share her with you today… and see what you think… I’m not super thrilled with her sort of stick straight hair, but I wondered if I could possibly change her wig down the road sometime…

First up, here is the only picture I was able to retrieve from that Ebay listing… It’s one of the 3 pictures I kept looking at…

Now here are some pictures I took of her tonight…I believe she is a Chrissa doll…with a different wig and of course those eyelash decals and glossy lighter lips…

Look at her sweet white boots…

I’ve seen some AWFUL looking dolls with the gaudiest eyelashes but, look at these tiniest of decals that just make her eyes pop…

I found this site on Etsy and these are the eyelash looks I’m NOT fond of…look at the examples along the side and you’ll see why. I just like the tiniest, inconspicuous kind…

Etsy shop with eyelash decals

See how straight her hair is? I’d like it to be just slightly wavy…

I found this picture on Etsy and think this is Chrissa or possibly McKenna. Actually I think this is one of the absolute prettiest dolls I’ve ever seen. I’d love to have a wig about this color and with this much wave to it…

But for now, she will have to do as she is…

Well, that’s my new doll that caused me to have Dolly Fever…the kind that only gets better when you give in to the doll that caused it in the first place! :o)

I’m going to sell her dress, hat and boots and will entertain offers starting at $25.00. Shipping will be $3.00 to any US destination. I’ll do like I’ve done before…as any bids come in, I’ll post them at the top of the post that is featured. Just let me know your bid through an email and I’ll let this run until Monday at midnight. (Central time zone)

Thanks everyone,
Have a wonderful Friday…
Blessings, Jeanne

So I’m not the only one with “dolly fever” these days, huh?!

She really is beautiful! I wasn’t sure what you were talking about, when you mentioned decal eyelashes, so thanks for the good close-up so I could see what they were. They really emphasize her pretty blue eyes, too!!

Got a message and my new doll should be here by Monday–yay!! But the best treat of all was seeing our grandson Isaac last night–first time in 4 years! He flew out from Missouri to live with his dad and work, or possibly go to welding school. He’s 19 now, and an overall nice kid. (of course, I’m not bragging…!!)

    1. Hi Charlotte,
I guess the “fever” gets all of us eventually…

So your Monday’s Child Boneka doll will be here Monday! I be you can’t wait…

I’m glad you got to visit wit you grandson…
      Blessings, Jeanne

I just checked the tracking, and as of a couple of hours ago, she was in Seattle, and on the way to her final destination–so I Might have her tomorrow!!

Also, I misspoke–Isaac will be 19 next month. (Time goes so fast.)

  2. The decals are a lovely addition. Your new girl is wonderful. I always wanted a Chrissa or McKenna. And I like her hair like it is. 🙂 Have you checked the Etsy wigs on Exquisite Doll Designz? I just bought one for my Shasta Scarlet Meadow girl. It is three tone, long and wavy. There are so many wigs I liked it was difficult to choose. I haven’t taken a photo of her yet, but I’ll try and send one. The hair is thick and can be styled so many ways. That is if you have talent like Jeanne. If we were closer, we’d hop in the car to have it styled at Jeanne’s Salon. 🙂
Also glad you don’t have “real” fever. Interesting how things come around again.
We’re going to be cooking the next few days here. Ugh.

    1. Hi Joy,
Thanks for the compliments on my new girl… I just realized she doesn’t have a name…better work on that…
I was looking on Etsy last night for wigs…and saw several I liked… I’ll check out the brand you mentioned…

Thanks for the tent pictures…may I share them?
Try and stay cool…how about a cool bath? :o)
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. Sure you can share the tent pics. Such as they are. I’m not fond of indoor photos, but trying to carry everything and everyone outside was impossible in the heat. Next week, the Meadow kids are heading to camp and will have to be outside. 🙂
I’ll probably just spray myself with the hose to keep cool. Today is supposed to be 101 and warmer tomorrow. Ugh

  3. That is a very pretty doll. But (Negative Nellie shows up) It always bugs me when the doll eyes close and there are those sticker lashes on her lid. I guess we adults probably have our dolls upright more often then not. I do and would still peel those things off. I had one of my doll’s face up enhanced and she has added eye lashes. Now THAT I love. They can be over done too but this is fairly subtle.

    1. HI Julia,
I know it looks a little goofy to have eyelashes on your dolls eyes when she lays down, but I’ve never done a listing where that would matter… my dolls are always standing upright. I think they make her look a little different instead of ordinary…
I’d like to see the dolls eyelashes that were added sometime… I could maybe do that!
      Thanks Julia,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. You new dolly is very pretty. I like her face coloring and her original hair color, the dark brown. They complement her whole look.
All this time, I never realized those type of eyelashes were on the market. ( where have I been?). Anyway, as long as her eyes are open, which most likely that’d be the case, they pointedly enhance her eyes.
She’s a good buy, and hopefully in time, you can re-wig her.
You experienced the good fever, Jeanne. 😉

    1. HI Paula,
You actually caught me looking at wigs! I like her wig, but I need to play with it maybe and see what I can do with it… maybe it will work.
Yes, my girls are always upright, so it’s not a problem to me…
      Thanks Paula,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. I didn’t know what decal eyelashes were either, so this was helpful. I have often noticed them and wondered what made the doll eyes so odd looking. These small, more subtle ones are becoming.
It might be fun to remodel that dress and decorate the hat before you sell the outfit.
I quite agree that the dark hair, light blue eyes combination is a lovely one. Mrs. Richardson on AGPT just showed a brown to Caroline blue eye swap for a brown eyed doll (and changed her face shape a little) to give a new-to-her doll a refreshed look, and it definitely worked, even for me, and I’m a brown eyes fan.
I looked up agoverseasfan, who appears to be a doll photographer. I had hoped she was an Etsy seller. If you post the picture on AGPT, there’s a good chance that someone will be able to identify the wig.
It will be fun to dress her with this wig. She’ll surely be your next model. The only question is which era you’ll choose. I think I’ll vote for Edwardian. Let’s see what everyone else chooses. Since I’m suggesting this, we won’t count you as bound by our votes. But maybe inspiesd?

    1. HI Marilyn,
I have to think of a name for her and then I’ll figure out what era to put her in…or maybe she can be a time traveling girl… ??
I too, looked for anything with agoverseasfan and couldn’t find anything about her either… no other pictures of the doll, so I’m guessing she was a custom and one that one picture was her proof to the buyer.
I might drape Nora’s wig over her and see if I like that color next to her skin…
I’m not sure she’ll be my next model until I figure out who she is… name wise…
      Thanks Marilyn,
      blessings, Jeanne

  6. Jeanne, what a pretty little doll, and yes, I do think she is Chrissa! I can see why you were smitten! I never knew of those decals either, but have seen dolls with them on, now I am realizing. However, I don’t really go for the look for a normal little girl, just too grown up for me, but this one is very pretty and her eyelashes are on the more discreet side. They are also expertly applied. I do love the doll you showed with the wig you like better. She is beautiful!

I wonder if her lips have been redone, since they are way more shiny than any of my dolls. Her hair isn’t too bad, but I see why you want a lighter, warmer shade. It reminds me of my Felicity’s hair, so easy to fix.

And so, now a name! Since she is a Chrissa, maybe Christine, which I think is such a pretty name!

    1. HI Linda,
I knew if I got her and didn’t like the decals I could remove them, so it wasn’t like they were painted on and permanent. For now, I like them… just a little bit glamorous but not too much to suit me…
I’ll have to try out some names… Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. I saw a show on “The Rifleman” the other day where everyone was leaving the Northfork area because the cattle were dying from Anthrax. The ones that didn’t die they had to destroy. Lucas McCain had to leave his son behind with a friend while he went somewhere else to make some money to buy some new stock. New Orleans, and many other places, used to have Cholera epidemics about every couple years until they got better sanitation. There’s always something out there to get us.

Well I’ve had the Coronavirus and I can tell you that Dolly Fever has been far worse for me and more pricey. I love your new doll. She has such a sweet face. I didn’t know what decal lashes were either. Thanks for the close-up. They do look fine on this doll.

I’ve been banging my head against the wall looking for a new wig for my Boneka. Her present hairdo doesn’t do anything for me so we decided she needed a new “do”. Nearly everywhere I checked has the same wigs and some of them are really cute, but most are not available in the color I want and those that are seem to be too close to the style of her present wig. Her hair is very light blonde and I wanted to keep her “true”. I did finally find one that should look cute on her and I can use the other one when she wants to let her hair “grow out”. But I’m still not 100% satisfied. There is a site I found on Etsy when I was looking for a wig for Lolla. The wigs were absolutely perfect for what I was looking for but when I started reading the reviews I was scared off. None of them were good.

Where on Facebook is the Boneka doll Jasmin? I would really like to see her.

    1. HI Barbara,
I guess if the pandemic hadn’t come along, we never would have paid attention to the shows with quarantines and sicknesses in them…
Thanks for the compliments on my new doll. I like her and hope the first thing I make for her will do her justice… I know the dolls are supposed to be 10 year old girls, but I see them in wedding dresses all the time and so I figured some decal eyelashes wouldn’t make her look TOO much older. :o)
I’ve been looking at wigs too… there are millions of them out there, but it’s so hard to decide on what will look good on your doll until you buy one and give it a try. That can be very expensive.
I’m not sure I can get a link to you, but I’ll try… it’s under the Dianna Effner Little Darling Boneka dolls… If you scroll down that page, you’ll see the Boneka dolls…but I actually don’t see Jasmine…it might be because she has already sold…

      Boneka dolls

    2. Charlotte Trayer

Barbara, look for “Dianna Effner Little Darling and Boneka Dolls” group on FB. Ricky Rich is the administrator, and a few days ago he posted a link with several new dolls he had coming in. He only got one Jasmin, so didn’t do a separate post about her, but if you look for his post from August 7th, and look thru the pictures, Jasmin is the 7th picture, right after the girl with the hat. Hope that helps!

  8. I can see how you love that doll! Who made it? What size wig? Same as an AG?
A lady who’s mother also did doll repair gave me her moms wigs…I’ll look and see what is in this huge box of wigs.🤩
I had never seen eyelashes like that either…it does give her a sweet look. I need some of those..Mine seem to have left! LOL
    Have a nice weekend!

    1. HI Kathie,
      I’m assuming she fits an AG doll wig… I think that’s a 10-11 isn’t it?
I could use some of those eyelashes too! :o)
      Thanks Kathie,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, isn’t it wonderful to find a doll you really want? I almost think it’s the other way around, that the dolls find us (laugh). I am looking forward to seeing what outfit you create for this new girl in your house.

    1. Hi Dorothy,
I’ve been looking at pictures and patterns all afternoon trying to figure out where my new girl fits… modern, historical, etc. I am stumped…
      Help….
      Thanks Dorothy
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, well, she looks modern, so maybe a contemporary outfit would work.
        OR
I think I mentioned that we will be celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment on August 18. You could make her a dress that was “worn” by her great grandmother as a girl in 1920 when she accompanied her mother to the polls to vote for the first time in November of that year. It’s just a thought. I hope it helps.

  10. Yep, that’s Chrissa. Congratulations on a new friend for your dolly shelf. I recognized her right off. She was early enough in the GOTY line that I saw her and her collection at the time, missed some in between, but know them now. The doll in the blue dress I think is Chrissa as well, McKenna has no sewn part in her hair. That doll is gorgeous! AGoverseasfan does a lot of reviews on hew AG products. I’ve seen her on You Tube when someone posts a link on AGPT or Dollhouse.
I think her dress is cute, but would use a red satin sash instead. I hope whoever gets it enjoys it. It’s delicate and dainty looking. The fake extra lashes do make her eyes sparkle. Just look odd when lying down. LOL I have seen those stuck onto their existing lashes as well.
I’m also curious what era you’ll put her in? The light eyes and dark hair is a striking combination.
I remember that episode of LHOTP as well as The Virginian. I like both of those shows along with other Westerns- rawhide, Bonanza, The Big Valley, Cheyenne, Gunsmoke etc.

    1. Help Laura…
I just commented to Dorothy about being stumped with wher my new girl fits in.. I guess I just got sucked in by her pretty face and didn’t think what kind of dresses I’d like to see her in…
      Any thoughts from you?
      Blessings, Jeanne

  11. I had no idea what you meant by decal eyelashes until you showed her lying down. They do look pretty when she is standing though.
I only have Our Generation dolls and their hair leaves a lot to be desired. It looks as if their hair is rooted so not sure if I could change it even if I felt confident in doing so.
Our PM announced yesterday that we will stay at the current Covid levels for another 12 days which is level 3 for Auckland and level 2 for everyone else. (level 4 is complete lockdown). If we only have the current cluster we will go back to near normality. Level 2 means we can still have church with social distancing so long as it does not exceed 100 people. Since we only have about 30 people if everyone comes that isn’t a problem. All rest homes are in complete lockdown so quite a few of our congregation won’t be there anyway.
I remember most of those westerns, could still watch them if I wanted as we have a couple of channels dedicated to all those old shows.
Barbara I am so glad you have fully recovered from Covid. Not everyone seems to, even some younger, fitter people seem to have a very long recovery time.

    1. Hi Anne,
I’ve seen people shave their dolls old wig off so they could replace it with a new wig….just saying…
Sounds like things are changing there like they are here. Our governor changes things up all the time…can’t do this. Don’t do that…etc.

I’m actually trying to figure out where my new girl fits in…struggling to decide…maybe she could just be my “catch all” girl who wears anything she and I Iike… :o)
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. I’m for that — catch all , time traveler. A doll who arrives in a Mary Poppins dress can do as she likes.

I found a picture of Jasmin. I’ll send the ink tomorrow.
