It’s curtain time again…

I’m glad you all enjoyed seeing Natalie yesterday. I think she’s adorable and am hoping to get a skirt made for her before I sell her. But that skirt didn’t get made today…because my hubby got the staples removed from his knee today, and the whole day was shot as we were out of town.

So I’m trying to find something for a fun Saturday post. You know I’ve been searching for the same curtains I have in my kitchen, to use in my sewing room.
I just thought it would tie things together since both rooms can be seen when you walk in my front door.

I found a single panel of curtains on Ebay from the company Bee & Willow that was pretty close to the Merchant 41 ones I bought from Hobby Lobby. But as I laid them on my rod next to the remnant piece from my kitchen curtains to compare the colors, they may seem a little too brown to suit me…the color is actually called taupe. (I’m not using that short piece on the right, it’s just for color comparison.)

The light color in the squares is more cream, not white, like my kitchen curtains.

I’m going to make a curtain to hang in that middle bookshelf area on a tension rod and hide some of my sewing stuff. Here is a look at what it will “sort of” look like… it would be hemmed and probably put on clip rings so it slides easier and scrunces up tighter.

It was hard to take a picture to show, but the darker taupe curtains are on the tension rod and the remnant from my kitchen curtains are on the rod over my window. I can see how the white shows up better on the one over the window.

The curtains also come in a color called charcoal and white and I thought maybe that might work better in there. I don’t want it to be cold looking in there but I’d at least like to give the charcoal ones a look. Our Bed, Bath and Beyond just opened yesterday, so I may have to make a trip there tomorrow and see if they carry them in the store.

I’m still out of commission as far as sewing goes because my flooring still HAS NOT come in. UGH!!! The tubs of sewing paraphernalia are still lining the walls of my living room and I’m ready for this to be over. When we ordered Rebecca’s flooring, it took 10 days to come in…it will be one month on Monday for this order!! We were so hoping we’d get the call today and be able to pick it up on the way home, but….we never got that call.

So that’s it for today… curtains that may or may not work and still no flooring.

I’ll see you Monday,
Blessings, Jeanne

Oh, gosh, I’m sorry your flooring hasn’t come in yet! Does the store give you any explanaiton? Maybe it’s time to look elsewhere????

As to the curtain panels, yes, I definitely see the difference betweent the two, and it would bother me if ***I*** had to look at it every day for several years!

To my mind, I would rather match the colors as exactly as possible but go with either a different scale check or a completely different stripe/print entirely, than match the size of the check but have different colors. To my mind, the former would just seem to be a more purposeful blending of prints, and thus more stylish.

However, using that one panel of the check in your book shelf that way does seem to make the difference in colors less pronouced, and would probably work quite well. At the window, though, it would be too noticeable.

We are happy campers tonight–Ron got the dryer fixed, and we went to our favorite pizza place for supper tonight. We haven’t been there in over 3 months!

  2. Just a thought, looking at the curtain over your bookshelf it looks as if you may need to shorten it. I think I would be tempted to take the cut off piece and dunk it in some bleach. If the curtain is cotton it may lighten it up enough to match it better to your kitchen curtains. I hope George is feeling better with all those staples gone.

  3. I think a lot of things that come from China are delayed in shipping because the factories were shut down for so long in Wuhan. I’m still awaiting elastic that I ordered months ago. American sellers are offering elastic that they don’t have and using the excuse that the virus is making it difficult to send items. They shouldn’t be allowed to sell things they don’t have in hand. Ask the flooring guys if it comes from China. Everything else does!

Your sewing room will be wonderful and is already. Did you get some Moving Guys or whatever they’re called, those plastic saucers that go under heavy items so you can move heavy things easily? Put some under the things you will have to move later and put the room back together if the flooring doesn’t arrive soon. Just a gentle push will get things moving. I think someone else recommended them earlier.

  4. HI Jeanne:

I’ve been busy getting settled in from our across country more. Finally have my sewing room set up again and it feels SO good to get back to ‘where the magic happens!”

I would go with a light taupe and cream stripe or smaller scale plaid and not try and match the Buffalo Check. Almost impossible to ‘match’ so do complimentary on purpose:) You are a master at storage! I still have all of my bags of yarns sitting in the guest bathroom tub…LOL

Susette: Farmhouse Fabrics in South Carolina has all sizes of elastic ..shipping is very quick and their customer service is top notch. They are my ‘go to’ for everything sewing!

Hopefully life will settle down for you now the George is feeling a lot better…as for the flooring…YUCK:(! I know what you mean by ‘so over this!’

  5. Since you haven’t found a match for a valance, perhaps go with leaving the white blinds with the built in valance which let in the view and lots of light and no fabric valance or a different print entirely like Charlotte suggested. I was hoping that the end wall might be a good place to display the dolls in waiting. It is a focal point for the room when you look in from the living room. Maybe the things hiding behind the tension rod might go around the corner on the back bookshelves? I wouldn’t put the checked fabric on the end wall just to find a place for it, as it draws the eye there and not to other cool things. And if those tubs up high are remaining, perhaps you can paint the two blue ones in the neutral khaki color or the gray of the walls to make them less noticeable. The blue is a pretty color, but again draws the eye up to the storage.
If the flooring people can’t give you a specific date as to when your flooring will arrive, I’d cancel and go somewhere else. Someone local must have flooring in stock that would work. Then you wouldn’t have to drag everything from the living room back to the sewing room while you are waiting indefinitely for the floor to arrive and then pull it all back out while you install the floor. I’m sure Susette is right about the flooring coming from China, probably on a slow container ship.
Sounds like your trip for staple removing went well. Hope George continues to improve on his recovery and glad you too are feeling better.
Trimmed the roses at the other house yesterday and almost filled the yard can for the week. We might do some more work up there today and top off the can. We’re paying for it, so might well use it I guess. Only thing, that means I won’t have any time to get going on my next sewing project for my Sylvia Scarlet 18″ girl. Haven’t made anything that size in a long time and am anxious to get started.
    Have a wonderful weekend.

  6. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, I won’t weigh in on the curtain discussion as I am the non-cook, non-sewer, non-crafter (chuckle) so I will defer to the experts.

I just wanted to wish everyone a happy World Doll Day!

  7. Dorothy…you made me laugh out loud! As readers we do tend to Boss Poor Jeanne around a lot☺️😉 She takes it all with good humor though.
That flooring thing is being a real pain but it’s going to be awhile before George is able to put it in anyway….unless you are so good at it by now you can do it yourself??
Wish you could find a Curtain match but you will come up with just the right thing somehow. We are going to redo our bedroom….my Mom had the drapes made when moved here in 1970…and they were lined and did a great job of keeping the light out…because there is a big street light that shines right in. Now…yes…the same drapes… lining is shredding but the drape fabric is still perfect. I think we got our money’s worth. Finding a replacement has not been easy either.
    Enjoy your weekend!

  8. I didn’t have a chance to comment yesterday. Natalie is very cute, could be Samantha’s little sister. I agree about looking for something complimentary to the buffalo check- perhaps a smaller gingham wouldn’t be as overpowering in your sewing room. You can order curtains a short time apart and they can come from different dye lots and not match. I’ve seen two identical bolts of fabric at JoAnn’s and one may be lighter or have other slight variances to the other.
Sure hope your flooring comes in soo so you can make a lovely summer dress or two. Summer seems to be flying along at an amazing clip and not a lot of time to enjoy things. I still have the added stress of having to renew my expired license- never had that happen before. We du have a three month grace period from May 26 when the BMV opened, so there will be time.
I’m sure George feels better now that the staples have been removed.

I didn’t know it was World Doll Day

    1. I just renewed my license in January. Glad I did it then and took the chance of waiting without an appointment as the DMV had no openings for several months. Had I waited for that appointment, I still wouldn’t have my renewal as they were closed for a long time and are now backed up. Will they wave the driving with instructor part because they were not open? Hope so. All of our written tests are on computer now and to take it, you have to use your thumbprint. Wouldn’t accept my print, too old I guess, so that extended the wait and raised my blood pressure I’m sure. Hope you can get in soon and be done with it. It was a great relief for me. 🙂

  9. I renewed mine in early February. The thumbprint screen wouldn’t take mine either. Upon looking st it carefully, it was so dirty that I asked the attendant to clean it! He wandered off and found a rag and spray bottle. I subsequently wrote to the DMV regarding cleaning between clients, and this was before the shutdown. This was in California. Otherwise the office was efficient, especially given the huge amount of customers.

    1. Good to know Susette. Glad I wasn’t the only one. Hopefully, they are cleaning now. I ended up having to get the person at the counter to come and help. He had to use his code to go in and manually get it going for me. Glad I don’t have to do that again for some time. 🙂

  10. Staple removal sounds painful but hope George is feeling better today.

That is insane that your flooring hasn’t arrived yet. Maybe look around and see if someone else carries that brand and has it in stock.

The curtains are tricky colorwise. Maybe go for something that has the same colors as your buffalo print just not that huge check. Did you look on ebay they might have those. Worth a shot.

Found my studio over the last few day. My move was brutal and exhausting both physically due to health and mentally but getting there.

    Blessings

  11. No, Sandra, staple removal is not painful at all! I was so afraid of that when I had my knee replaced last year, but it actually was a piece of cake…….the staple removal!

Oh Jeanne, I do not want to chime in on what you should or should not do, since you are the one living in your house, and see everything all the time. You do what you feel is best for you!

I do see the difference in the size and color of the check in the new material. I guess it is tricky at best to decide on things on the computer. I have just used blinds and a valance in the doll room, and it works out fine. For me though, the blinds are always completely up or completely down, like at night. I cannot stand a closed in look. The reason you have windows is to let light in, not to cover them up! At least that’s the way I see it!
