UPDATE:
We had quite a day yesterday. On the way to the hospital for my hubby’s surgery, our car decided to act up. Yikes!! We were driving along just fine, about an hour from where the hospital was, when all of a sudden our car started lurching back and forth. The silly girl in me asked my hubby if he was doing that on purpose! Needless to say, I got that look!!
We were right by an exit for a little town beside the interstate, so my hubby pulled off. He spotted a Ford Service Garage and drove there. He spoke with a mechanic, and then another one came and then the manager or owner came to our rescue. They weren’t a place that loaned out cars, (the nearest car rental place was 25 miles up the road) but they gave us a nice 2012 Ford Fusion to use while they fixed our car. Turns out it was the alternator. Whenever we go back home we’ll stop by there and pick our car up. The mechanic even called me at the hospital and told me they had gotten it finished. We were SO SO grateful and they were SO SO kind and friendly.
My hubby came through his surgery just fine and we were even blessed extra specially. The restrictions had just been changed at the hospital a few hours before we got there, allowing me to go back with my hubby before he went to surgery and THEN I got to go up to his room after he was out of surgery.
I am in my hotel room and ready for bed. It’s 9:10 which is early for me, but I hardly slept last night, so I’m gonna do it!!
Now for the post I had already scheduled…it was fun to read your answers yesterday.
I’m doing another day of questions because I’m not sure what is in store with my hubby’s surgery. This way, I can ask a few questions so you all can participate and chat with each other till I get back.
Here are today’s questions:
Question #1:
If you opened a business what kind would it be?
Question #2:
If you had to change your name, what would your new name be?
Question #3:
What are you best at?
Well, that’s it…short and simple…
I hope we’ll be heading home today. Rebecca has been taking care of Simon and Reuben and the birds.
Hopefully my flooring will be in this week and I can get going on my sewing room again. I have been sorting things in the boxes and tubs in my living room, so I’ll know just what to take back in there.
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
Hi Jeanne, I missed writing for yesterday’s
Questions. So I’ll try to get this ready—and on time.
These questions really cause one to think and reflect on what might have been.
Question 1. I never have been one to sell things, but I have thought of opening my
own school. I would love to open a pre-school or kindergarten. I would like to have the curriculum based on the arts.
2.I have never liked the name Diana. I wanted to be named Susanna or at least have a daughter named Susanna. My oldest sister was Susan, but she just wasn’t interested in trading names.
3.I am best at sewing, teaching little children, and finding humor in many things—kind of like Pollyanna.
How about that, I’m not the first to post tonight!!
I’m glad to hear George’s surgery went well–and that that deaership was in the right place at the right time! Also that some of the hospital restrictions were loosened at just the right time. God’s provisions…..
Kathie, I do have some Salon Pas on hand; just haven’t tried it yet. Will try to remember tomorrow. Today I got a different pain med (not stronger, thank you, just different), and a referral for some theraputic massages at the local PT place. If that doesn’t help, then she said maybe some further imaging, to see if there is muscle damage.
Now, the questions.
#1–Well, I’m not sure. I’ve worked in a doll shop, and that was a lot of fun. (I especially enjoyed doing window displays.) Ditto a fabric store. So maybe something like that, or a book shop.
#2–Hm, I’m not sure here, either! I used to hate my name–NO ONE could spell it correctly!! (And you know who always got 100s on her spelling tests!! LOL) I used to wish my name were more “modern” sounding (in 1946, when I was born, Charlotte was pretty much an “old lady” name), like Linda, or something that had a cute nickname. Then I discovered that Elizabeth was a name that had a LOT of cute nicknames, so I thought that would be great–I’d have my pick! To this day, I love the name Elizabeth, although I don’t see myself as an Elizabeth–or, for that matter, a Liz, Libby, Beth, Betsy, or Eliza!
#3–I think I have more than one “best at” skill–sewing, of course (and I continue to learn and improve), and smocking, but I think I’m also good at encouraging and teaching others, particularly with sewing and other needlecrafts. I’m a 4-H judge, and my favorite part of judging is the interview part, which is before the fair begins. The kids bring in their projects, and we go thru them with the kids, complimenting things done well, making suggestions of how differently to do something not quite so well done. I just love to hear someone say, “Remember last year, and you said….? Well, I remembered!” I’ve been judging long enough now to have seen quite a few kids come thru, some of whom I’ve seen since they were young children. One of our 4-H “grads” went on to become the 4-H sewing superintendent!! I am so proud of her! Another one is majoring in fashion design in college!! I’m proud of her, too!
I love the name Charlotte. I had a classmate in first grade with that name and I thought it was so pretty. My sister’s name is Elizabethanna (all one word). She was named after my mother’s Godmother. I thought her name was beautiful. I was named after two friends of my mother’s – Barbara Louise. We called my sister Beth, because my mother did not want her called Liz. I had to share a room with her and back then she wasn’t known for her neatness so I used to call her Lazy Lizzie. Today you can eat off the floors in her house.
Barbara, my middle name is Louise, also! It was my mother’s name. I’ve never been overly fond of it (it means “warrior maiden” or something like that! LOL), but I see it is gaining popularity once again!!
Sorry that I haven’t posted in about 2 months. It’s been a very difficult time as I moved during the COVID lockdown (our building is stay in place as it is a senior complex), family member got COVID very bad and it has taken 43 days to recovery, a death in immediate family, finding places for my belonging in the new place and my health issues. Hoping June will be easier and that at some point life will return to normal. Very little is yet to open in my town except for the beaches so the tourist can come.
The car acting up was the last thing you needed on the way to the hospital but it sounds like a wonderful group of men came to your aide, so that is a plus. Better news is George’s surgery went well and you got to be with him which was another plus.
Question #1:
If you opened a business what kind would it be?…..This took some thought as I already own three businesses. I owned a Doll House business specializing in hand made one of a kind silk oriental rugs and special occasion foods. Had a graphic design business (online) and my daughter and I had a (online/juried craft shows) business where we made animals and dolls and dress them in one of a kind fantasy outfits. So I always wanted to have a home where babies born addicted to drugs that are taken away from their mothers could come and stay rather than going to foster care or in the system.
Question #2:
If you had to change your name, what would your new name be? I have always hated my name and I would change it to Raaven. Not after any TV actor but I love the name and I love ravens. The meaning is dark haired and wise and that is me.
Question #3:
What are you best at?….having patience and never giving up. But they are more like character traits but I got told about them all the time. I am very good at judging people and most often can do so in a very short time. My grandchildren would say cooking and they brag about it to their mom all the time. Sewing wins hands down. I love to sew and have since age 9 when I got my first sewing machine.
Blessings
Thank goodness for the kindness of strangers! It warms my heart to read your post about the mechanics not only loaning you a car, but hurrying to replace the alternator.
So glad the hospital lifted its no visitors regulation as I absolutely know it meant the world to both you and George!
I moved across country from California during this lockdown too.. my hubby got a job in his chosen career .. in Georgia. He left in January and my son and I stayed behind to ready/sell the house, pack up and prepare to join him. It involved moving 4 vehicles and 3 dogs as well.. thank goodness everything fell into place like dominoes! We were able to fly out the end of March..thank God for His blessings!
Now for the questions:
#1…I am doing what I love best.. creating beautiful doll clothes from wonderful fabrics..and I would love to have enough acreage to rescue as many shelter animals as possible and give them a safe place to live and be loved.
#2.. I already changed my name.. waaaay back in 1976. My birth name was “Sharon” and I never felt that it was “right” for me. One day I was doodling and wrote SHAR..but added an A at the end.. I knew immediately that was my name! I have gone by Shara ever since:) my parents initially had a hard time remembering my new name, but they came around 😄
#3..I am blessed in many ways (except singing!)
I have patience , creativity, empathy and kindness.
I try to inspire children to follow their dreams just as I did.
So happy to hear that you made it to the hospital on time, with the help of others, and that you were able to be there for George too. Wonderful news. 🙂
I’m not very good at answering personal questions. Just not me, but I’ll try.
1. I have never wanted to have a business of my own, so will pass on that one.
2. I like many different names, like for kids, animals, and dolls, but I have always been satisfied with my name.
3. I guess I’m pretty good at fixing things, like the dishwasher I took apart yesterday, cleaned out the gunk, and got it all back together. Does it still work? I won’t know until I try it to day. I’m also good with plants and their names as well as birds.
Drive safe coming home today.
Jeanne, still trying to think of the answers to your questions! I really don’t feel that I am the one to say what I am like! I don’t dwell on myself very much at all, so a lot of those questions just don’t really have interesting answers!
For today’s questions, I would never want a business of my own! I love crafts, gardening and things like that, but never have wanted the job of it being a business! Then the fun goes away!
As far as my name goes, Linda is alright I guess! It was very popular in the 40’s when I was born, but I only knew one other Linda, who was in my class. However, as for middle names, I thought and wanted my middle name to be Susie! That was when I was young, and when people asked me for my name I always said “Linda Susie”, much to my parents amusement! It’s not really Susie, but Ann! I much prefer Linda Ann nowadays!
As for as the third question, I guess I am pretty good at keeping my house clean and organized! Not too exciting, really, is it?
I’m so happy to hear that you made it to the hospital in spite of your car trouble and that the operation went well. Hopefully, you are on the way home, if not, soon!
Hi Linda,
My middle name is Anne also, but like Anne of Green Gables, mine is spelled with an E.
Actually, there was a toss up as to whether it would be Anne or Elizabeth and Anne was the name pulled from the hat. LOL
Laura, my sister’s name is Anne, with the “e”. My mother’s name was Anna Marie, but preferred to be called Ann, so that’s where my name came in. My grandmother’s name was Anna Louise! My granddaughter’s name is Anne Marie! So many Ann’s in the family! I have even more than that, but I’ll stop here!
There were two Lindas in my class in Michigan (grades 1-9), one was Linda Lou and the other was Linda Kay. My cousin Linda is Linda Marie, but she’s a few years younger than I am!
I’m going to have some fun today. It involves going to town and it is NOT the doctor or dentist. My Godmother is turning 80 today. She has invited me and one of her cousins for lunch. Her cousin is probably past 80 so at 63 I’m the young ‘un!
Jeanne, praying that the surgery is successful!
Oh, no, that’s wasn’t a fun experience with your car. I had the alternator go out on my car once back before I had a cell phone on one of our back country scenic roads. It was just getting dark. I knew where I was, of course. I went up to the nearest farmhouse and the sweet couple called AAA for me.
For today’s questions….
#1 I haven’t ever had a business, but I actually have been thinking on it more and more recently. I love to cook and bake and do creative food designs. I’d love to have a tea room or bakery. The main problem is the rent for space
I also thought at one time about a “girl’s old-fashioned finishing school” where girls could learn manners, old skills etc.
This one isn’t a business, but I would love to have a place where abandoned/abused animals could have a safe, loving place to live. In a way I’ve done that on a small scale with the animals I’ve adopted.
#2 My name is alright, but I’ve had to spend so much of my life either re-pronuncing it for people or excepting it pronounced differently than I want. The AU is said like the AU sound in Austria or Australia and I get it pronounced like the name Lora which is a different name. I know it started because of the mispronouncing on LHOTP show. Caroline is called Carolyn by Charles.
I do like to pick unusual names for my dolls.
#3 Hmm I think I’m creative and can come up with a different way of doing something, and organized.
I missed answering the questions yesterday. It was fun seeing everyone’s answers. I’ll try to do better today but first I wanted to say I’ve been praying for a good outcome for George’s surgery. I was very delighted when you said you were able to go to the hospital with him and visit him after. I saw on the news last night that eight hospitals in Houston are now allowing visitation. Being able to see family members while they are hospitalized is best for all concerned. I’m seeing sad stories every day where someone passed away and family and friends were unable to give them a final hug. When I saw David before he was sent to the hospital in Houston he told me he needed me to bring his phone charger when I came to visit. When I told him I couldn’t visit, he was very downcast.
Now for the questions.
If I opened a business it would most likely be something like a specialty fabric store. There is a store called Buttons ‘n Bows in Houston. They specialize in smocking plates, pre-pleated children’s clothing, wonderful top-notch fabric, smocked clothing patterns, etc. I love to go there when they have an end-of-the-bolt sale. I would totally enjoy spending my days working in a place like that.
I’m assuming you mean first name. I always liked my first name but I remember once going through a phase where I liked Melinda or Belinda better. Oh, and there was a Priscilla phase.
I’m probably best at reclaiming messes. Once my husband brought the travel trailer he used for work home after a job. He never mentioned that it needed cleaning up until things were really bad. Like food left in the refrigerator in the heat, etc. Everyone thought it was an impossible job but I put on a mask and rubber gloves and started in one corner and within a short time it was back to spic and span. My stepson was amazed. He told his Dad he didn’t think it could be cleaned up, but I was up to the challenge. You just have to take it in bite-size pieces.
We just had some unexpected news this past Sunday. Last week the grandkids school was open for picking up things left behind when the school was closed. One of the things was their school pictures. Sunday at lunch my daughter-in-law handed us pictures of the grandkids. Jaiden was on top, and then Skyy, but there was another picture. An ultrasound!! Skyy is nearly 10 and Jaiden is 8 so we never expected another addition to their family. The new arrival is due January 23. Dionne’s birthday is January 21, so she will have quite the birthday present next year. For her birthday this year we got her one of those reborn dolls. Next year she’ll have the real thing. Naturally they have given away all the baby things they had so they will be starting from scratch again. Skyy and Jaiden are over the moon. We have no idea the gender yet. We have grandkids younger than our great-grandkids. With David having two families, the oldest was a senior in high school when our daughter was in first grade. Our grandkids were born in 1989, 1999, 2010, 2011, 2017 and now 2021. I really think this will be the last one.
I hope you got to do some shopping at JoAnn’s. I haven’t been there since it opened up. I’ve got a bunch of money in gift cards, but I don’t really need anything right now and really need to use some things up.
How exciting, Barbara!! Congratulations on the new grandbaby!! And what a lovely way to present you with the news!
Bonjour Jeanne ,
Some news from Brittany where the weather is so fine and the virus seams to go away …
You ask good questions !
1) if I opened a shop I think it would be a library. Read and share with others all the sensations and thoughts a story can wake up , I surely would.
2) I do like my name Sophie which means wisdom in greek, otherwise I do like the name Anne which was my grand mother ´si name.
3) M’y family and friends think I’ m good at cooking, specially fish and sauces ! Maybe that’s why they often ask to come for dinner !
Friendly ,
Sophie in Brittany
Wow, what an adventure you and hubby have had. So glad the hospital rules changed just that little visit was very meaningful to the both of you. Questions
1. I’ve owned 2 businesses already a housecleaning service and my doll clothing bussiness which is pretty well closed down now do to health problems.
2 I wouldn’t change my name but would change the spelling back to what it was supposed to be Lynn with an e and add the middle name my father gave me which is Gioia Italian for Joy. Mom didn’t know how to spell Gioia and left off the e on Lynn though her name was Madelynne go figure
I have no clue as to what I am best at. I keep trying new things
